It had been 4 days since Kate left Jack heartbroken on the front porch. Besides the school, his room was the only place you'd find Jack in those four days. He just couldn't wrap his head around it. Lying in his bed he tried to figure it out, things were going pretty great upstairs before she left that day, but the words that she said kept ringing in his head. Shaking his head he got out of bed, through on a pair of faded blue jeans and green t-shirt he headed downstairs.

At the bottom of the stairs he met his mother "Hey, good to know your still alive" She tried to joke

"Morning mom" he said with no emotion just simply a nod

He grabbed a bowl and milk from the fridge and sat down at the table, his mother followed suit "How are you Jack really?"

He raised his head slightly "I'm great mom"

Getting up she placed a hand on his shoulder "Maybe you could talk to you're father about Kate"

Jack laughed sarcastically "Yeah, I dough that will help" rolling his eyes

Margo was about to defined herself when Jack continued talking "What could dad possibly say? How could he make this go away, make it less painful" running his head through his hair he finished "He'd tell me to man up, to get over it"

"Now Jack, you're father has seen a great deal of pain in his life, he just might know how you feel" she offered

Shaking his head with a laugh "Mom, he thinks he can find feelings with a x-ray machine, no. feelings is the one thing dad knows nothing about" he sternly told her before putting the bowl in the sink and grabbing his bag "I'm going to school" he said before closing the door behind him

Jack's morning at school was filled with hugs, and questions about what happen, why it happen, questions he couldn't answer because he didn't know himself. Picking himself up from the questions he walked into the cafeteria for lunch.

Grabbing his tray, and walking over to where he usually sat, he began to wonder if Kate would be sitting there too, at that moment he looked back up and there see was standing in front of him, walking over to the line up

They both just stayed standing there for a minute or two, before Jack opened his mouth to say something, but before any words came out Kate head ducked and she moved passed him, looking over at his friends they waved him over but this time it was his turn to duck out and he left the tray on a table and went to the place where he did his best thinking. The gym.

Back in the cafeteria Claire was trying to understand what was going on, so she followed Kate to the line.

"Hey, can we talk" Claire said once she reached her

Nodding she added "Sure, what about?" acting clueless to why her friend would want to talk

"About what's going on……with you and Jack?" she was getting annoyed now

Kate knew that she would have to explain eventurally " Me and Jack…..we…we aren't together anymore" she told her friend, and she could feel the tears swelling up in her eyes

Claire shocked replied "What?...you two were so in love a few days ago…what….what happen?"

Kate pulled Claire into the girls bathroom, she couldn't lie to her, it was bad enough she lied to Jack, she was sick of lying to the people she cared about so she decided just to tell her the truth with one condition.

"Promise me if I tell you, you will never tell Jack" Kate said

Claire looked scared of what was coming next "Why? Are you in trouble?"

Kate shook her head "Claire promise me", and she didn't like this but she nodded anyways

"When I was at your place the other day, I uhhh…..I over heard a conversation between your dad and Margo, …a conversation I wish I wouldn't have heard, because I don't want to hurt you but I think you should know" she told the blonde

Shaking her head "I don't understand Kate"

The tears we falling out of Kate's eyes now, and Claire could feel her own start to fall as well "Claire, your dad…..he's sick" she paused "He's …..he's dying Claire" she finished letting a small acing noise escape her mouth

"What….what do, yu….you mean dying?" She cried

"I think you should talk to him about this Claire, because I don't know much about it" she said before wrapping her arms around her friend in a tight hug as she cried

When they pulled away Claire wiped her tears away "But…what does that have to do with you and Jack?"

"Your dad wants him to go to brown, and Jack wouldn't go, he wouldn't leave me here, and…I just I didn't want him to hate me for it later, so I did the only thing I could think of to make him leave" she cried out loud

Claire wrapping her arms around Kate this time urging her to continue "I lied to him…..I …..I looked him in the eyes….and I…I told him that I didn't love him" Claire could feel her shirt getting soaked with tears "Oh Kate" she said rubbing her back

"I love him so much, so much Claire" her friend continued to hold her whispering I knows and its okays in her ear.

Pulling away "You have to tell him the truth Kate. He's a mess, I know how much you love him, and I don't want you to hurt for letting him leave thinking you don't care"

Kate fell back against her friends shoulder and nodded into it "You're right, I cant let him leave, not without knowing how much I love him"
