Ok, this isn't the best work I've ever done, but it'll improve in the next chapter. But - *squeals in excitment* yay! It's begining! Everybody look! *drags annoyed-looking friends in front of the computer* Enjoy! And please leave reviews!

Chapter 1 – Lightning Strikes and Arguments Flare Up

"Kyra! Get out of that Kavinika's den!" A tall, elegant Toa of Lightning ran forwards to try and drag her little sister out of the murky burrow.

"But, Xirrea, it's hurt!" the little lightning Toa whined. The taller one, Xirrea, sighed in defeat after several attempts to pull her sister out by her flailing leg.

"Fine, let me look at it." Kyra popped out, a grand smile of victory plastered on her face. Xirrea bent down to look into the burrow. She looked around the gloom for the tell-tale bright blue eyes of the creature she was seeking. She saw it, curled up in a corner, whining loudly.

"Come here," she said softly, "let me see you in the light." The wolf-like Rahi came forward, limping badly. Xirrea was cautious, she new how dangerous Kavinika could be, and she didn't want one tearing her to shreds, or her little sister.

It came out into the light, and Xirrea saw to her horror that its entire left paw had gone, leaving a messy stump of gears and red blood.

"By the Great Spir-! What in Mata Nui's name happened to you?" The wolf came up to her, laying its head on her lap, still whining, but not as loudly now. Xirrea stroked its back, doing her best to calm it down. "Hush now, little one. You'll be fine soon."

""Fine"? The pup's got no paw!" A rust-coloured Toa walked up to the pair, looking at the Kavinika in sympathy. He bent down, and put a hand up to the remains of the creature's paw. Activating his mask power, he healed the creature's wound so it could stand on the stump and feel no pain.

"Any better, little un'?" The Kavinika got up stiffly, realised it could stand, and began running around the trio of Toa happily.

"Aw, bless him!" Kyra said as it began licking her mask fondly.

Xirrea turned to the rust-coloured Toa. "Any interesting news from the other islands, Socah?" Socah threw his hands in the air.

"Same old, same old. 'Cept… er, well…" He stopped talking – an obvious sign he didn't want to tell her something.

"What news is there? Tell me, Socah, or I ain't gonna be very nice to you until you do decide to tell me," Xirrea hissed. Kyra was still laughing at the Kavinika's antics.

Socah threw and arm around Xirrea's shoulders and drew her away from their younger sister. "I've been called to war."

***

"You've WHAT?" A silver and black Toa screamed at his purple and black brother.

"I've been called to war… and I have to leave in three days." The Gravity Toa looked apologetically at the Magnetism Toa, but even his best "I'm awfully sorry" look wouldn't get through all four of his brothers.

An energetic Toa of Plant Life came up to him and poked him sharply in the chest. "You can't just walk out on us! We need you! If the Metru Nuian Toa want a war, they can fight it by themselves! We need you more than they do."

An orange and yellow Toa came and stood beside the leaf-green and teal Toa. "Krix has a point, Zerrafitz. You're the most powerful Toa on this island, and-"

"-and we never get attacked, Drehx! This island means the world to me, it's my home and it always shall be. But my skills are wasted here when they could be put to use in defending against a terrible foe." The Toa of Magnetism looked ready to pin Zerrafitz to the floor with his power, just so he could keep him there, but the fifth of the brothers present clasped a blue-grey hand around his wrist and stopped him.

"Ro'Dae, let me-"

"Shut up, Izerix. You're giving me a headache," he spat icily at his brother. He turned to Zerrafitz. "You speak truth, my brother. Go to Metru Nui and fight for the liberation of the Matoran Universe. We can keep things straight here." His pale blue eyes bore holes into Izerix, telling him to stay shut up.

Izerix yanked his hand away and walked towards the woods for some lone-time. Krix and Drehx stalked off towards the village.

"Thank you, Ro'Dae. You always see sense." The Sonics Toa turned his deathly stare to Zerrafitz.

"No I don't," he snapped, "I just know when the best time to prevent a fight is." He walked away then, leaving a flabbergasted Gravity Toa in his wake.

***

"Don't tell me you actually plan on going?" Xirrea cried.

"I have to, Xi. This isn't something I can just walk away from. I just want what's best for you and Kyra. And the Turaga'll kill me if I don't answer such an important call," Socah new this was an argument he'd lose, but he also new he'd be going to Metru Nui regardless of the outcome.

"But what about the island? We get attacked frequently enough to need at least two fully trained Toa, and Kyra's barely learnt to use her Lightning powers yet, never mind her mask power!" She began to cry, as she often did when stressed or upset.

Socah hugged her tightly. "You'll both be fine. I promise that nothing will happen to you." Xirrea continued to cry. "Do you want to swap masks in case you need to do some healing? Precision only helps in certain cases and I'll probably be doing more fighting than you will over the next few weeks."

"No," she said, wiping away her tears on the back of her hand, "Keep it; I'm used to this mask now anyway."

"Alright, and I want to see two fully trained Toa of Lightning by the time I come back, sister."

"Pfft, like that's gonna happen! Kyra's more interested in the local wildlife than her studies and training." She stepped away from Socah and handed him his pack from the table next to them. "Good luck, Socah."

"Take care of yourself and Kyra, sister."

"I will, brother. I will."

***

"So, what do you see in our future, my dear brother?"

Izerix jumped at the Toa of Sonics' approach. "Nothing really, nothing's very clear right now because my head is so full of stress! Why does Zerrafitz think it's ok to just walk out on us?"

"He doesn't, he just thinks it's best. The world needs Toa of his strength or we may fall into times of great darkness," Ro'Dae told him, sitting down next to him by the spring Izerix was so fond of. "He'll be back before you know it."

But will we still be here? Izerix hadn't been entirely truthful about not having seen anything; he'd seen their island come under attack by Dark Hunters, and Drehx dragged off. He was worried, but he didn't want his brothers to be under any more stress, and his mask's predictions weren't always right… or so he hoped.
