Chapter 564 Unwelcome Invitation
"
Tara barely had time to unlock her office door, switch on the lights and put her shoulder bag away before Margaret was in her office. Tara hoped this wasn't going to be an on-going occurrence. A little Margaret went a long way kind of like Gemma or Tabasco sauce.
"I tried to catch you yesterday, but you had back to back emergency surgeries," Margaret said plopping herself down in a visitor's chair.
"It was an unusually busy day," Tara said taking a seat behind her desk. She didn't have a consult for a half hour. She hoped Margaret wasn't going to chitchat for that long. Maybe she thought since they'd gone to lunch, they were friends. She should never have accepted that lunch invitation.
"I have some good news for you," Margaret said in a bright tone of voice. It reminded Tara of the tone of voice Gemma used before she stabbed her in the back. She was immediately wary.
"That's the best kind," Tara said trying to work up some enthusiasm to hear this good news, but knowing that it probably wouldn't be news she considered good.
"Dr. Namid isn't going to be able to go to the conference next week in Santa Rosa, so you're going to go in his place. I've already looked at your schedule and it will be easy to clear."
"That's great," Tara said feigning excitement.
"You'll leave on Wednesday and the hotel is paid for through Monday, so you might want to take Monday off and enjoy the beautiful wine country," Margaret said giving Tara a big smile
"I think I'll do that."
Margaret handed her a large manila envelope.
"Here is everything for the conference. I'll contact the conference and let them know you will be attending in Dr. Namid's place. I'm sure you'll have a great time. He always looked forward to attending. It was the highlight of his year."
"I'm getting excited," Tara said, faking it.
"I'll let you get back to work."
Tara watched Margaret leave. She should be happy about this conference, but why did she feel like something was wrong? Why was she suddenly afraid?
