Afterword:

Memory's End, as you read, was probably confusing and outright an unsatisfying story. Characters were chasing after other characters without resolution, several villains were set up only to be swiflty eliminated, random overly descriptive sex scenes that halted the story, previously established characters were flanderized or not used at all.

Truthfully, I didn't know where I wanted the story to go with this one. I had several months of contemptlation, sometimes I considered abandoning it. The COVID pandemic stunted my emotional well being beyond comprehension, so I was demoralized and saw this story as nothing more than some random time waster.

But, I learned I could do one thing. Make it short. This fanfic is only 10 chapters long. And I can find some form of meaning to add to it while doing it. The frivolous nature of this story is supposed to represent the hole people feel in their selves after they've gone beyond their best achievements. Link is too far gone in the past that he would rather kill himself than keep on going in a mundane life. Poump is just a sword teacher and nothing more, as he is humble and beyond his days of adventure. Zelda just has ultra powerful magic that can destroy any random enemy at will because she's mastered her magic. It's an uninteresting set up that tells an uninteresting story, and I hate sounding pretentious, but it's essentially the point of it.

I will say though, I don't see this fanfic as a total loss. It is thematically telling both I and the reader to let go of a story that is done. It critiques my previous story by pointing out the almost eugenic message and bringing it down, putting forth a new status quo by tearing down the Royal Family and turning them into normal people. Whatever ends up replacing the Royal Family is up to the reader to decide.

Now that Tears of the Kingdom is around the corner, I can finally put this fanfiction duology of mine to rest. Between After the Wild and Memory's End, I hope I have portrayed a nice alternate sequel to Breath of the Wild. I dunno, if Tears of the Kingdom turns out to have a bad story, then maybe these fanfictions will still have worth. But who knows until then.

If you read both After the Wild and Memory's End, thank you. If you just skipped here to this afterword for some reason, thank you anyway for hearing my words. Happy playing, fellow Zelda fans.
