A/N: WHATTTTTTTTTTTTTT HOW DID WE REACH 480 VIEWS? I'm sorry for being inactive for so long, school has been stressful. Thanks to all the lovely people who reviewed! I don't have time to directly respond rn but I will at a point :) LMK if I should make chapter names. Now, on with the story! Chapter 8 (Guess the POV
Level: K)
I flipped through the void, my friends suffering the same fate. A moment later we appeared in a room… the healing center? Elwin was in there, making an elixir. He spun around. I looked at my friends to see how they were doing, and that's when I noticed Violet. She was pale and her breathing was ragged. Her mysterious Violet eyes had turned dark and lifeless. Elwin panicked. "Oh dear!" He quickly grabbed Violet and put her in a cot, grabbing a dozen elixirs off of multiple shelves. "How did this happen? Where did they take you? Are you guys OK?" Elwin asked, clearly worried. He wrapped Evie in a hug when he noticed she was crying. "I think Violet conjured us using a brain push while we were held captive. I'm pretty sure it took a huge toll on her while snapping 6 people into the void, probably from all the way across the world," I said. Violet let out a blood-curdling scream. Me and my friends surrounded her, Leanara holding her hand. Elwin forced 2 dozen more elixirs down her throat while Leanara squeezed her hand tighter. The screaming stopped abruptly. Violet's eye-lids drooped. Her breathing became steadier. "What did you use?" I asked.
"It's a remedy that I used for her mom when she used her abilities in excess. She should be OK now," Elwin responded, wiping a little sweat off of his brow. He flashed many colored lights over her body, inspecting her closely. "She just needs rest, and I expect you to let her have some," he said to us. Everyone nodded, apart from me. "Why can't I stay with her?" I asked. I really wanted to, to prove my loyalty. "Alright, but please don't disturb her. She needs all the rest she can get," he said. "Oh, and you can sit in the bed next to her," he said with a knowing smile. My face reddened, but I sat down criss-cross applesauce in the cot. The rest of us left after saying goodbye. I looked at Violet in her peaceful form. I've never seen her this way before, even when she fell asleep during class. She seemed so calm, an emotion she never seemed to have. I was staring at her for so long that I dozed off, or at least I think so because when I heard my name being called drool was running down my chin and my eyes were a little foggy.
I turned sideways to see that Violet had woken up, and we were, surprisingly, the only ones in the room. "What happened? Where is everyone?" she asked. I quickly wiped the drool off my chin and sat straight, feeling extremely embarrassed. "They went home. We're at Foxfire. You snapped everyone here, remember?"
"Oh, yea. Is everyone OK?" she asked, clearly concerned.
"Yes, apart from you. Snapping was too much of a strain on you." Vivian let out a breath.
"Vivian, you need to stop caring so much for other people and care for yourself. You snapped 6 people! I've seen you do it to one person and that required a lot of energy. You shouldn't have done that. Look at you, you probably feel horrible," I said. Vivian sighed.
"I had to. I put everyone in danger, they couldn't stay in that pla–"
"Vivian. Stop it. You almost died, and you still care if the others are OK. Be selfish for once," I said. Vivian sighed again."You know what happened to your grand uncle–"
"He is not related to me and therefore is not my uncle," Vivian said, folding her arms.
"Fine. Alden. His mind broke because of guilt. Guilt that he wouldn't have if he didn't overthink things. And you need to stop overthinking things. It's not your fault we got caught. It's our parents' fault. They underestimated the Neverseen. But still, I don't blame them. They went on for years, and I'm not surprised that they would think they're gone for good. And, I've gone rambling again. Please ignore me," I said, running a hand through my hair.
"No, its fine. It's interesting listening to you. I'm bored. I probably wouldn't have anything to do if you weren't here," she said, fiddling with her hair. A streak of panic flitted across her beautiful face. "Oh my goodness, my hair is definitely a mess. And I need to wash my face. Where did I put my lip gloss? Hey, could you grab me a mirror? I need to see how much I look like a bed monster," she said. I chuckled.
"You look fine, Vi. Especially for someone who's been asleep for a day," I said, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "Really?" she asked. I nodded. She gave a smile, and I could have sworn she blushed. "JUST KISS ALREADY!" someone yelled. I took my hand back and a tiny flame erupted from the center of my palm. Vivian leapt back and had used her reflexes; she conjured up a melder-like object. We turned around to see Leanara, Meemo, and Emerald hiding in a storage cupboard in the corner of the room. The door had burst open and they had all tumbled out. "What were you guys doing in there?" Vivian asked. Meemo looked embarrassed.
"Me, Emerald, and Leanara made a bet on–"
"Uh uh. No revealing precious secrets now, are we?" Leanara asked, wagging a finger in front of his face. "Fine," he grumbled.
"You guys would make such a great couple, but you're too deep in denial. I will make it happen, whether you like it or not. You two will get married, live in a house together called Starshift, have three kids, a pet imp, and a pool. Violet will be an emissary and [REDACTED, hah, you're not getting it out of me that easily] will be leader of team Valiant. There. Now do whatever it takes to get to that point. And if you refuse I will find you and kill you both. Then you can live in heaven together. Yippee," Leanara said.
"Guys, I think we need to take her to a mental asylum," Violet said.
"I agree," Emerald responded, raising his hand.
"What's a mental asylum?" Leanara asked. Emerald and Violet shared a look. Great. More twin code. "It's a place where people who've gone insane stay in the human world. It's kinda like exile, but not a prison. More like a place to keep other people away," Violet explained.
"Wow, really? I thought that was just a metaphor. I didn't know that people can actually go crazy," Meemo said. The mischievous twins shared another look.
"Well, I think we should tell Elwin Violet's awake," I said.
"Why? You want to make sure your one and only true love is OK?" Leanara teased. I groaned.
"I don't like her like that– no offense, Vi," I quickly added, glancing at her.
"None taken,[REDACTED, meant to be a nickname but you have to guess the POV]" Violet said, smiling. Oh, her smile was so pretty, with those soft lips of hers. If only I could–
"AHA!" Leanara yelped.
"What is it Lea?" Violet asked. Leanara looked like she'd gone mad. She had an evil grin on her face and her hair was messed up. "I KNOW THE TRUTH NOW! GIRL TALK TIME!" she shoved Violet into the storage cupboard, walked in with her, and locked it from the inside.
