As the night sky grows darker, a group of hooded figures gather in a secluded alley, away from the prying eyes of the partygoers. The atmosphere is tense, with a palpable sense of foreboding that hangs heavy in the air. The hooded figures huddle together, whispering in low tones, their faces obscured by the shadows of their hoods.
As the night wears on, the hooded figures continue to plot and scheme, their dark intentions unknown to all but themselves. One of them spoke in a low voice, "How's the plan going?"
Another replied, "Not good. It seems that someone leaked our plans. They are completely absent from the gathering."
A third figure cursed, "Damn it! What are we going to do now?"
They all fell silent for a moment, contemplating their options. Finally, one of them spoke up. "We don't have a choice. We'll have to follow plan B."
The others nodded in agreement, their resolve firm. With a whispered oath of "For freedom", they broke apart, each disappearing into the night in a different direction. The night air hung heavy with the weight of their intentions, and a sense of foreboding settled over the alley.
Meanwhile in another place, Mikoto entered the party hall, feeling the eyes of the crowd on her as she made her way back to Eira. She noticed a subtle sneer on Eira's face as she greeted her.
"Well, well, well. Look who decided to come back," Eira said in a teasing tone, "I was starting to think you got lost out there, Mikoto."
Mikoto rolled her eyes, used to Eira's playful jabs. "Ha ha, very funny," she replied, trying to hide her unease.
Eira's gaze lingered on Mikoto for a moment before she continued. "So, did you enjoy your little walk outside? Meet anyone interesting?" she asked, arching an eyebrow.
Mikoto hesitated for a moment, remembering her conversation with Zep, but quickly shook it off. "No, it was nothing special. Just some fresh air," she said, trying to keep her tone casual.
Eira nodded, but Mikoto could tell she wasn't entirely convinced. "Well, if you say so. Anyway, I wanted to introduce you to someone," Eira said, gesturing towards a well-dressed man standing nearby.
As Mikoto turned to face him, she couldn't shake off the feeling of unease from earlier. She couldn't help but wonder what Zep meant by the scarlet dragon's heart and whether she should trust him or not.
The sound of joy and laughter suddenly came to a halt when the doors of the party hall burst open with a loud bang, followed by the appearance of a group of heavily armed men in uniform. They were the capital guards, their stoic expressions showing no hint of amusement or enjoyment.
The guests of the party, taken aback by their sudden intrusion, began to murmur and shuffle nervously, some of them looking around frantically for a place to hide. The guards, their eyes scanning the room, made their way towards the center of the hall.
"Attention, please!" one of the guards barked. "We have reason to believe that a dangerous criminal is in this area. We ask that you remain calm and cooperate with us as we conduct our search."
The guests, their expressions now fearful, exchanged worried glances with each other as they watched the guards move about the hall. Some of them tried to make their way towards the exit, only to be stopped by the guards.
Mikoto, Eira, Kaito, and Azu huddled together, watching as the guards searched the area, their eyes darting back and forth as they tried to remain inconspicuous. Mikoto could feel her heart racing with anxiety as she wondered what was happening and who the guards were looking for.
As the guards searched for the criminal, Mikoto couldn't help but notice the man behind her. He had been acting strange ever since the guards had entered the hall. He was sweating profusely, and his eyes darted around the room frantically. She could see the fear in his eyes, and it made her wonder what he was so afraid of.
Mikoto took a deep breath and walked towards the leader of the royal guards, her heart pounding in her chest. The woman had an air of authority about her, and Mikoto couldn't help but feel a sense of unease as she approached her.
As she got closer, Mikoto noticed that the woman looked eerily similar to Konori Mii, one of her acquaintance back in her own world. But she quickly shook off that thought and focused on the situation at hand.
Mikoto froze as the suspicious person behind her suddenly grabbed her hand, holding a small shiv that glinted menacingly in the dim light. She could feel the cold metal pressing against her skin, and the sharp edges of the blade digging into her flesh. She could smell the faint, acrid scent of poison emanating from the tip of the shiv.
The man's eyes were wide with fear, and his entire body was trembling. He looked as if he was about to snap at any moment. "Don't move!" he hissed, his voice barely above a whisper. "I need a way out of here, and I won't hesitate to use this if I have to."
Mikoto tried to pull away, but the man's grip was too tight. She could feel her heart pounding in her chest, and she knew that she was in serious danger.
The guards drew closer, their weapons at the ready. The man backed away, keeping Mikoto close to his body as he brandished the shiv. "Stay back!" he yelled, his voice shaking with fear.
The guard leader took a step forward and raised her hand in a calming gesture. "Please, sir," she said in a firm yet soothing tone. "Put down the weapon and surrender peacefully. We don't want anyone to get hurt."
The man, however, only tightened his grip on Mikoto's hand, making her wince in pain. "I said I want a way out!" he growled, his eyes darting frantically around the room. "I won't go down without a fight."
The other guards had their weapons drawn and were slowly advancing towards the man, but the leader signaled them to hold back. "Let me handle this," she said quietly. Then, turning back to the man, she said, "I understand that you're afraid, but there's no need to hurt anyone. We can help you, but you have to trust us."
As the guards try to negotiate with the suspicious person holding a small shiv, a sudden bright light engulfed the area, blinding everyone momentarily. In the chaos, a loud scream pierced through the air, and a thud followed after. Mikoto instinctively shielded her eyes with her arm, trying to adjust to the sudden change of brightness. When she opened her eyes, she was met with the sight of the suspicious person's head rolling on the ground, his body slumping to the floor lifelessly.
The guards were just as stunned as Mikoto, looking around frantically for the source of the light and the attacker. The party guests started to panic, some running towards the exits, while others tried to hide under tables or behind pillars. The guard leader regained his composure and shouted out orders to his subordinates, telling them to secure the area and search for any remaining threats.
Mikoto was frozen in shock, unable to comprehend what had just happened. She noticed a faint smell of ozone in the air, which reminded her of the powers she possessed. Was this her doing? She quickly dismissed the thought, realizing that the light was much brighter and intense than any of her own abilities. She looked around, trying to find any clues about what had just occurred, but everything seemed to be shrouded in darkness and confusion.
Mikoto's heart sunk as Kaito approached her with a grave expression. The chaos and confusion in the room faded into the background as he spoke. "Mikoto, Eira's gone missing," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
Mikoto's mind raced as she tried to process the news. Eira was a powerful and influential figure, and if something had happened to her, it could have dire consequences. She looked around the room, hoping to catch a glimpse of Eira, but there was no sign of her.
"What do you mean, missing?" Mikoto asked.
"I don't know," Kaito said, his voice tinged with worry. "I turned around for just a second, and when I looked back, she was gone. I've been searching the room, but I can't find her anywhere."
Mikoto felt a sense of unease settling in her stomach. This was not good. Not good at all. She had a sinking feeling that whatever was happening here was much bigger than she had initially thought. She looked around the room again, her eyes scanning the faces of the people around her, searching for any clue as to what might have happened to Eira.
"We have to find her," Mikoto said, determination seeping into her voice. "We can't just sit here and do nothing."
Kaito nodded in agreement, and the two of them set off into the crowd, determined to find their missing friend.
Mikoto and Kaito quickly split up, their eyes scanning the room for any sign of Eira. As they move, the chaos in the hall escalates rapidly. Guests are shouting, panicking, and pushing one another in an effort to flee the scene. Some are tripping over their own dresses, while others are stumbling and falling in their frantic attempts to escape. The guards are desperately trying to maintain order, but their efforts seem to be in vain.
Mikoto can feel her heart pounding in her chest as she makes her way through the crowd. She has to push and shove to get through the throng of people, her eyes scanning the panicked guests for any sign of Eira. The air is thick with the sounds of screams and the smell of sweat, making it difficult to think straight. It's like a nightmare come to life.
Mikoto sees guards trying to form a human wall to prevent people from entering or exiting the hall. But it's a losing battle, as people are pushing against them with all their might. The situation is escalating quickly, and it seems like it could turn into a stampede any moment.
Despite the chaos around her, Mikoto keeps her focus on finding Eira. She spots several figures running towards the exit and joins the chase, weaving through the crowd as she goes. She's almost at the exit when she feels someone grab her from behind. She turns around, ready to defend herself, but it's just Kaito.
"She's not out there," he says, panting heavily. "I think we need to search inside the castle. She might have gone there for safety."
Mikoto nods, and they both turn around to head back towards the castle, fighting against the flow of the panicked crowd.
Mikoto's senses heightened as she felt a familiar tingling sensation in the air. It was an almost nostalgic feeling, one that she had experienced before. She quickly looked around, trying to locate the source of the sensation. Her eyes darted towards the windows, and she could see the night sky beyond them.
Without a second thought, Mikoto made her way towards the window and opened it. A cool breeze wafted in, carrying the sensation with it. She leaned over the balcony, peering into the darkness.
Without wasting a moment, she leaped over the balcony and ran towards the garden. Her mind was racing as she tried to make sense of the situation. What could be happening? Was Eira in danger? Mikoto knew that she had to act fast.
As she ran, she could hear the chaos of the party behind her. Guests were screaming and running in every direction, and the guards were trying to keep everyone calm. Mikoto could feel the fear and panic in the air, but she pushed it aside, focusing on the task at hand.
As she stepped into the garden, she realized that it was much larger than she had expected, and there were no lights to guide her way. The only sound was the rustling of leaves and the occasional hoot of an owl. She couldn't see anything, and she felt a growing sense of unease. She wondered if she had made a mistake in coming out here alone, especially with the chaos inside the hall.
Mikoto took a deep breath and tried to calm herself. She closed her eyes and focused on her other senses. She could feel the cool night air on her skin, smell the fragrance of the flowers, and hear the distant sounds of the party. She used these sensations to navigate her way through the garden, feeling her way around bushes and trees.
As she walked deeper into the garden, the tingling sensation grew stronger. It seemed to be coming from somewhere ahead of her, but she couldn't be sure. She continued to walk, her heart pounding in her chest, until she stumbled upon a clearing. In the center of the clearing, there was a small lake, and sitting on the edge of the lake was Eira.
"Eira?" Mikoto called her. She was sitting with her knees pulled up to her chest, hiding her face. Mikoto walked closer to her, her voice laced with concern. "Hey, what's wrong? Why are you here?" She could see that something was deeply troubling Eira, but the girl didn't seem willing to talk. Despite Mikoto's gentle inquiry, Eira kept her face down and didn't respond.
The night air was cool and crisp, with a gentle breeze that stirred the leaves of the surrounding trees. The stars twinkled in the dark sky, casting a soft glow over the peaceful scene. The quiet sound of water gently lapping at the shore could be heard from the nearby lake, adding to the calming atmosphere. The moon was full and shone down brightly, reflecting off the water and casting long, rippling shadows across the surface.
Mikoto sat beside Eira on the grassy bank, her feet dangling over the edge. The darkness surrounded them, but they could still make out the serene landscape that lay before them. Mikoto looked over to Eira, who was still hiding her face. She could tell that something was wrong, and her concern grew as she tried to comfort her friend.
"Eira," she said softly. "It's okay, you can talk to me."
Eira didn't respond, still keeping her face hidden. Mikoto placed a gentle hand on her back, trying to ease her anxiety. They sat in silence for a few more moments, the only sound being the rustling of leaves and the gentle lap of the water. Eventually, Eira spoke, her voice barely above a whisper.
"My parents used to love me so much," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "They would do anything I asked for. But then, one day... my power manifested. I could hear people's thoughts, and everything changed. They were afraid of me. They sent me away to live with an acquaintance of theirs."
Mikoto listened quietly as Eira continued. "That's where I met Kaito for the first time," she said, a small smile appearing on her face. "He didn't mind my ability. He thought it was cool, and he didn't have any thoughts that needed to be hidden anyway." She paused, lost in thought for a moment before continuing. "That's why I liked him. He accepted me as I am."
Mikoto listened intently, the gentle breeze of the night softly rustling the leaves of the trees around them. She could feel Eira's pain and longing in her words. Eira continued to speak, her voice trembling as she recounted her experiences. "I can't control my power, you know. It just...activates randomly. Most of the time it lies dormant, so I can do everyday things just fine. But in situations like this, when everything is so chaotic and everyone's thoughts are just a jumbled mess, it's too much for me to handle."
She paused for a moment, her eyes staring out at the lake before her. "I could feel everyone's panic and fear, their thoughts shouting at me from all directions. It was overwhelming. And then, when that man grabbed you, I felt his thoughts too. They were so violent, so full of rage and desperation. I couldn't take it." Eira's voice trailed off, and she wrapped her arms around herself, as if trying to shield herself from the memories.
Eira takes a deep breath and continues her story, "But there's something about you, Mikoto. Even during the chaos just now, I couldn't read your mind. I can usually read everyone's thoughts, but not yours. It's weird. I was both eased by your presence, but also a little bit upset at you. I thought you were hiding something from me, but now that we're here, I realize that it's just how you are. It's refreshing, actually. I'm so used to being able to read people's minds that not being able to read yours made me feel like I was missing something important."
She takes a moment to look at Mikoto, hoping that she understands. "I guess what I'm trying to say is, I like that about you. You're different from everyone else, and that's what makes you interesting."
Mikoto blushed a little, feeling a bit awkward at Eira's sincere compliment. "Thank you, Eira. But I have to tell you something," Mikoto said hesitantly. "I'm not from this world. I come from a different place."
Eira looked surprised but curious. "What do you mean?" she asked.
Mikoto took a deep breath before continuing. "I have abilities that no one else has here. Like you, but different. That's why I don't think like other people, and that's why you couldn't read my mind just now."
Eira looked at Mikoto with a mix of shock and fascination. "That's amazing! What kind of abilities do you have?"
Mikoto hesitated for a moment before deciding to trust Eira. "I have the power to control electricity. I can generate it and manipulate it at will."
Eira's eyes widened in amazement. "Wow, that's incredible! You must be really powerful."
Mikoto smiled faintly. "I guess so. But I try to keep it under control and not draw too much attention to myself."
Eira nodded understandingly. "I see. That must be hard."
Mikoto sighed. "It can be. But I'm used to it by now."
The two girls sat in silence for a moment, both lost in their thoughts. Mikoto couldn't believe she had revealed her secret to someone outside her world, but at the same time, she felt a sense of relief. Eira's acceptance and lack of judgment gave her hope that maybe she could find her place here after all.
Mikoto shifted her gaze towards the ground, feeling a twinge of guilt wash over her. She had lied to Eira, and she knew that the real reason Eira couldn't read her mind was not because she was from another world, but because of the unique nature of her own ability. As an esper with electrokinetic powers, Mikoto had always been able to create an AIM field, a special kind of energy field that protects her mind from being read or influenced by others.
But she knew that explaining all this to Eira would be a complicated and confusing mess. It would require going into detail about Academy City's advanced technology, and the complicated workings of esper abilities. Mikoto didn't want to risk overcomplicating things, especially since Eira was already feeling so overwhelmed and vulnerable.
So she kept the truth to herself and simply nodded along with Eira's words, feeling awkward and a little bit embarrassed. She wondered if Eira would ever find out the truth, and what her reaction would be. But for now, Mikoto pushed those thoughts aside and focused on being there for her friend in the moment.
Eira's face brightens up, and she smiles as she says, "Oh... I guess I'm not the only one who's special now."
Mikoto smiled at Eira's comment, feeling more at ease now that they had opened up to each other. "Yeah, it's kind of funny how we both have these powers, huh?" she said.
Eira looked up at Mikoto and nodded. "It's like we're part of a different world, isn't it?" she said.
Mikoto chuckled. "I guess you could say that. It's definitely not something you see every day," she said.
Eira smiled, and Mikoto could see the relief in her eyes. "I'm just glad I'm not the only one with a power like this. It's nice to know that I'm not alone," she said.
Mikoto nodded in agreement. "I feel the same way. It's tough to have a power that other people don't understand," she said.
Eira looked at Mikoto, and there was a new understanding between them. "But we understand each other, don't we?" she said.
Mikoto smiled at her new friend. "Yeah, we do."
Mikoto and Eira were lost in their conversation, enjoying the connection they had found over their unique abilities. They were so engrossed that they didn't even hear the footsteps approaching them until the guard leader stood before them.
"Excuse me, ladies," the guard leader said, her tone professional but slightly urgent. "I'm sorry to interrupt, but I need to escort you both to a safe place."
Mikoto and Eira looked up at her, surprised to see the same woman who had tried to reason with the man with the shiv earlier. The guard leader looked just as surprised to see them sitting together, but she didn't comment on it.
"Is everything okay?" Mikoto asked, standing up and brushing off her dress.
The guard leader hesitated for a moment before replying. "There's been a breach in security. We need to evacuate all guests to a safe location until the situation is under control."
Mikoto and Eira exchanged worried glances, but they didn't protest. They knew that the guard leader had their best interests in mind, and they didn't want to put themselves or anyone else in danger.
"Lead the way," Mikoto said, and Eira nodded in agreement.
As they followed the guard leader through the garden, a loud noise can be heard from the distance. Mikoto and Eira looked towards the source of the noise, and in the distance they saw a massive explosion lighting up the sky, the flames leaping up high, casting an eerie orange glow on the surrounding trees. The sound of the explosion shook the ground beneath their feet, and the heat of the flames could be felt even from this distance.
The guests who had been running around in a panic stopped in their tracks, turning to face the source of the explosion. Some gasped in horror, while others tried to run in the opposite direction, away from the danger.
The guards, who had been trying to maintain order, were now visibly overwhelmed. They huddled together, speaking in hushed tones, trying to figure out what to do next. The guard leader turned to Mikoto and Eira, her expression grim.
"Come with me," she said, her voice urgent. "We need to get you two to safety."
Mikoto and Eira nodded in unison, both feeling a sense of dread wash over them. They followed the guard leader, her steps quick and purposeful, as she led them towards a nearby building that looked sturdy enough to withstand an explosion.
As they ran towards the building, the ground shook beneath their feet with each new explosion. The sound was deafening, and the heat from the flames was becoming more intense. Mikoto and Eira could feel the sweat starting to bead on their foreheads as they ran, their hearts pounding in their chests.
As they arrive at the front of party hall The guard leader quickly turned to her subordinates and demanded, "What the hell was that?!" The other guards looked just as confused and startled as she was. They fumbled for a response, unsure of what to say.
"Report! What's going on?" she shouted at them, her voice laced with urgency.
One of the guards stammered out a response, "We're not sure, ma'am. It sounded like an explosion, but we don't know what caused it."
The leader's expression grew stern. "Find out what happened, now!" she ordered. The guards nodded and quickly began to move away, ready to investigate.
As they turned to leave, one of them spoke up. "Ma'am, we think it came from Nolin Fort. It's the biggest prison in Arklind."
The guard leader's eyes widened in shock. "Nolin Fort? That's impossible... we need to get there, now!" she exclaimed, before turning to Mikoto and Eira. "You two, stay here!
Without waiting for answers, The leader of the guards quickly departed, leaving Mikoto and Eira standing alone at the entrance of the grand hall. Kaito soon approached them, concern etched on his face.
"Are you both okay?" he asked, his voice tense.
Mikoto nodded. "Yes, we're fine. What about you?"
"I'm alright," Kaito replied, his eyes darting around nervously. "We should get out of here though, it's not safe."
Mikoto and Eira nodded in agreement, and the three of them quickly made their way to the carriage waiting outside.
As they climbed inside, Mikoto could feel the panic in the air. The normally bustling streets were now deserted, and the few people that could be seen were running for their lives. The horses pulling the carriage seemed just as frightened, their hooves clattering against the cobblestones as they raced towards the hotel.
Mikoto couldn't shake the feeling of unease that settled in her stomach. Something was definitely wrong, and she couldn't help but wonder what could have caused such chaos. As the carriage bumped and swayed along the road, Mikoto exchanged worried glances with her companions, each lost in their own thoughts.
Mikoto sat in the carriage, lost in thought. Her mind was a jumbled mess of events that had occurred throughout the day. She couldn't believe she had encountered someone like Zep, who claimed to know about multiple worlds and could help her find a way back to her own world. The thought of going back home filled her with both excitement and fear.
The sudden attack in the party hall had been terrifying. Mikoto was grateful that she had managed to dodge the assailant's attack, but the way his head had suddenly been cut off had left her shaken. She had never seen anything like that before, and the supernatural aspect of it had unnerved her.
As she thought about the strange occurrences that had happened earlier, Mikoto remembered Eira's confession about her esper power. Eira had the ability to read minds, something that Mikoto had only encountered once before with Misaki from her own world. Mikoto wondered if Eira's power was as strong as Misaki's, or if it was something different.
But the biggest shock of the day had been the explosion that had caused panic throughout the area. Mikoto could still see the huge pillar of fire that had illuminated the night sky. She wondered what could have caused such a destructive force and if anyone had been hurt.
As the carriage rattled on, Mikoto tried to push all of these thoughts aside and focus on the present. Kaito was sitting across from her, looking worried. "Are you okay, Mikoto?" he asked, his voice filled with concern.
Mikoto shook her head, trying to clear her mind. "I'm fine," she said, but her voice sounded uncertain even to her own ears.
Eira was sitting next to Mikoto, looking pale and shaken. Mikoto reached out to touch her arm, offering her a small smile of reassurance. "Are you okay, Eira?" she asked softly.
Eira nodded, but her expression was troubled. "I'm just a little overwhelmed," she admitted. "I've never been in a situation like this before."
Mikoto could understand how Eira felt. She herself had been thrown into a world she didn't understand, with people who had abilities beyond her own. But she also knew that they needed to stay strong and keep moving forward, no matter how daunting the task ahead seemed.
"We'll get through this together," Mikoto said, offering Eira a reassuring smile. "We'll find a way to stop whatever is happening and make things right again."
Eira smiled weakly in response, but Mikoto could tell that her words had helped to ease some of the tension. As the carriage continued on its way, Mikoto closed her eyes and took a deep breath, steeling herself for whatever lay ahead.
