The dawn in the capital was grey and somber, a stark contrast to the usual bustling activity of the city. The streets were quiet, the air heavy with the scent of smoke and destruction. The guards were everywhere, moving quickly and efficiently, their faces set in grim determination.

The remnants of the explosion at Nolin Fort were still visible, the walls charred and blackened, debris scattered all around. The once imposing fortress now looked like a hollow shell of its former self. People were peering curiously from their windows and doorways, trying to catch a glimpse of the damage.

As the guards worked tirelessly to clean up the mess, the city began to stir back to life. The sound of carts rattling down the cobblestone streets and the clatter of hooves on the pavement slowly filled the air. Merchants began to set up their stalls, their wares glittering in the morning light.

Despite the chaos of the night before, life in the capital seemed to be slowly returning to normal. But there was an unspoken tension that hung in the air, a sense that something had shifted, that the city would never be the same again.

As Mikoto stands among the onlookers, the city around her is still in chaos. People are rushing around, shouting and trying to get a glimpse of what's happening at the epicenter. The streets are littered with debris, and the air is thick with the smell of smoke and burning.

Mikoto's heart is racing as she tries to eavesdrop on the guards' conversation. She stands on her tiptoes, straining to hear over the din of the crowd. She catches snippets of information here and there: mentions of a terrorist attack, a prisoner revolt, and rumors of an explosion.

The tension in the air is palpable, and Mikoto can feel the fear and anxiety emanating from the people around her. Despite the chaos, she remains calm and focused, determined to find out what's really going on. She takes a deep breath and continues to listen, trying to piece together the fragments of information she's gathered.

The guards were visibly exhausted, their faces haggard and eyes bloodshot from the long hours of work. Mikoto overheard them discussing the events that had transpired at Nolin Fort, the biggest prison in Arklind.

One of the guards let out a deep sigh and said, "I can't believe we've been working all night. I'm so tired I can barely stand." Another guard chimed in, "Tell me about it. I could use a week's worth of sleep after this."

Mikoto listened intently, waiting for any important information to come up. Finally, one of the guards spoke up and said, "We've found the head of the prison and some guards, both alive and dead. But we haven't found any inmate's bodies."

This revelation caught Mikoto's attention. "What do you mean?" she muttered under her breath. She knew that this meant that the inmates had escaped, and it was only a matter of time before they caused havoc in the city.

The guards continue their conversation, grumbling about how tired they are from working all night. One of them complains, "I swear, if I have to keep picking up debris, my back is gonna give out."

Just then, the guard leader approaches them, scolding them for slacking off. "Get back to work, you lot! We've got a mess to clean up and prisoners to find!" she barks at them. Which then make the guards snap to attention and quickly get back to work.

Mikoto walked away from the scene, lost in thought. The information she had just gathered from the guards gave her an idea. If she helped them with their investigation, they might be willing to provide her with information on the Scarlet Dragon Heart. She needed a lead, any lead that could help her find her way back to her own world.

As she walked through the city, she observed the aftermath of the chaos that had occurred the night before. The streets were crowded with people, some still in a state of panic, others simply trying to go about their daily business. The air was thick with the smell of smoke and ash, remnants of the explosion that had rocked the city.

Mikoto's mind was racing with thoughts of what she could do to help the guards. She knew she had to be careful, as getting too involved could put her own safety at risk. But she couldn't just stand by and do nothing.

She decided to start by gathering more information about Nolin Fort and its inmates. Maybe there was something there that could help her and the guards in their search.

As Mikoto walked through the city, her eyes scanned the surroundings for any sign of suspicious activity. She weaved in and out of crowded streets and alleys, trying to remain inconspicuous.

Mikoto walked down a dark alleyway, hoping to find some clues or leads about the escaped inmates. However, as she turned a corner, she was confronted by a group of shady individuals. They looked at her menacingly and started to harass her.

One of the shady people stepped forward and blocked Mikoto's way, while the others formed a circle around her. "Hey there, pretty girl," he said with a smirk. "What's a young lady like you doing in a place like this?"

Mikoto tried to back away, but found herself surrounded by the group. "I'm just passing through," she said, trying to keep her voice steady.

The man stepped closer, leering at her. "Well, we don't usually get many visitors in this part of town," he said. "But since you're here, maybe you'd like to spend some time with us?"

Mikoto's heart began to race as she realized the situation she was in. She looked around, searching for an escape route, but the group had her completely boxed in.

"Sorry, I'm not interested," she said, her voice trembling.

The man's expression darkened. "Oh, come on now. Don't be like that," he said, reaching out to grab her arm. "We're just looking for a little fun."

Mikoto tried to pull away, but the man's grip was too strong. She felt a surge of electricity build up in her hand as she prepared to defend herself.

Mikoto cautiously asked, "Are you guys from Nolin Fort?"

The group of shady people burst out laughing. One of them stepped forward, his menacing grin sending shivers down her spine.

"Nolin Fort? You gotta be kiddin' me, girl. Only the worst of the worst are held in there, ain't no regular thugs locked up in that place," he sneered.

Mikoto felt a knot form in her stomach as she realized her mistake. She had been so desperate for information that she had overlooked the obvious. She looked at the group with a mix of embarrassment and frustration, knowing that her search for the Scarlet Dragon Heart had hit another dead end.

Mikoto turned to face him, her expression cold and distant. "I asked if you were from Nolin Fort," she said. "But it seems like you're just a bunch of common thugs."

The thugs looked confused, not understanding why she was so fixated on the prison. Before they could ask any further, however, Mikoto sent a jolt of electricity through her body and into the ground, knocking them all out cold. She couldn't risk them following her or spreading rumors about her presence in the city.

Mikoto shook her head in frustration. "I've wasted my time here," she said again.

With a deep breath, Mikoto turned and walked away, her thoughts consumed by the elusive scarlet dragon heart and her growing desperation to find a lead.

Mikoto stepped out of the dark alleyway and into the bright morning sun. Her mind was still occupied with the information she had just received from the group of shady individuals. They had laughed at her question about the inmates of Nolin Fort and claimed that only the worst of the worst were held there. It left her wondering just what kind of people they were and what they had done to deserve such harsh punishment.

As she walked through the busy streets of the capital, Mikoto couldn't help but think about the potential dangers that could arise from the escape of such notorious criminals. She knew she needed to find out more about them, but where to start? She had no leads and no idea who to turn to for information.

Mikoto saw someone in the distance who appeared to be a guard, but upon closer inspection, she noticed that the guard was petite and appeared to be weak. The guard had short black hair with flowers adorning her head, and Mikoto couldn't help but think that she looked familiar. It was then that she realized that the guard bore a striking resemblance to Uiharu Kazari, one of her closest friends back in her own world.

Mikoto couldn't believe her eyes. How could Uiharu Kazari be in this world, and why was she dressed as a guard? Mikoto's heart raced as she approached the guard, hoping that it was indeed Uiharu and not just someone who happened to look like her.

As Mikoto approaches the girl, she notices that she is indeed a guard, but she looks tired and overworked.

"Excuse me," Mikoto says, catching the girl's attention. "Do you need any help with that?"

The guard looks at her wearily and nods, grateful for the offer. As they work together to move the equipment, the guard asks Mikoto where she's from.

"I'm from a faraway place," Mikoto says, deciding to keep the fact that she's from another world a secret for now.

The guard nods, understanding. "I've seen a lot of travelers passing through here lately," she says. "It's been quite busy for us guards."

Mikoto nods in agreement. "I've noticed that too. Is everything okay?"

The guard lets out a small sigh. "It's been a difficult time for us," she says. "Especially after the explosion at Nolin Fort. We've been working non-stop since then."

Mikoto's curiosity is piqued. "What happened at Nolin Fort?"

The guard hesitates for a moment before replying. "It's classified information, but let's just say it was a big incident. A lot of inmates escaped, and we've been trying to catch them ever since."

Mikoto nods, understanding the gravity of the situation. She can't help but wonder what kind of people are held in that prison to warrant such security measures.

As they finish moving the equipment, the girl smiled and introduced herself, "My name is Nara. Thank you for offering to help me, it's been a long day."

Mikoto returned the smile, "No problem at all, Nara. I'm Mikoto, I'm from a faraway place. Nice to meet you."

Nara's eyes widened in surprise, "A faraway place? That's interesting! What brings you to our city?"

Mikoto hesitated for a moment, "Well, I'm just traveling for now. I've always been curious about different worlds and cultures."

Nara nodded, "I see. Well, I'm just a simple guard. But I've been working at Nolin Fort all night. It's been a hectic deal, as you can imagine."

Mikoto nodded, "That sounds troublesome. Is there anything I can do to help?"

Nara looked surprised but grateful, "That's very kind of you, Mikoto. We could use all the help we can get. I'm just delivering some supplies to the search teams now, but I can introduce you to the commander later."

Mikoto smiled, "Sure, I'll be happy to help. Let's get these supplies to where they need to go first."

Mikoto looked at Nara with a quizzical expression. "What kind of people are being held at Nolin Fort?" she repeated.

Nara's eyes widened in surprise. "You don't know?" she asked. "Well, I suppose it's not common knowledge outside of Arklind. But the prisoners held there are the most dangerous and notorious criminals in the kingdom."

Mikoto's curiosity was piqued. "What kind of crimes did they commit to warrant such treatment?" she asked.

Nara paused, as if carefully choosing her words. "The people held at Nolin Fort are the most dangerous criminals of our land. The ones whose crimes are so heinous that even public execution cannot satisfy the cries for justice. However, the situation is more complicated than just that. Some of these prisoners are too important to be executed publicly. Their deaths could cause political turmoil and potentially even threaten the stability of our nation."

Mikoto frowned, "So, they keep them locked up instead?"

Nara nodded, "Yes, and the security at Nolin Fort is unparalleled. It is said that no one has ever escaped from the fortress."

Nara's eyes turn solemn as she continues her story. "There is this interesting story which has been passed down by the guards at Nolin Fort. The Dragon Slayer was a legendary figure, hailed as a hero in our land for slaying the disasterous Dragon that terrorized our people for decades. He was loved by everyone and his name was known far and wide. But his glory was short-lived. He committed an act of treason against the Kingdom, one that cannot be overlooked. However, the Kingdom couldn't bear the thought of executing such a beloved figure in public, as it could cause a political uproar and destabilize the Kingdom. So they sent him to Nolin Fort instead."

Mikoto listens to Nara's story with rapt attention, feeling a mix of admiration and sadness for this "Dragon Slayer". She can imagine how conflicted the Kingdom must have been, torn between their duty to maintain order and their love for a hero. "Do you know anything else about him?" Mikoto asks, her curiosity piqued.

Nara shakes her head. "I'm afraid not. The Kingdom keeps a tight lid on the inmates' identities and their crimes, even from us guards. All we know is that they are the worst of the worst, and they are kept under tight security."

Mikoto nods understandingly. "I see. Thank you for telling me. It's good to know more about the place I'm in."

Nara smiles at Mikoto, appreciating her curiosity and eagerness to learn. "No problem. It's always good to have someone new around here, and I'm glad to have met you."

Mikoto muttered "Dragon Slayer." "Dragons?" she asked Nara. "Do they exist in this world?"

Nara shook her head. "Dragons are mythical beings," she replied. "I have never seen one myself. But, if you're interested in learning more about them, I suggest you visit the public library. They have a vast collection of books about the history and mythology of our world."

Mikoto nodded in agreement, "Thank you, I'll definitely check it out later."

Nara smiled kindly and said, "Sure, I can give you the directions. Just keep walking in the direction of the Royal Palace. Once you reach the gate, look opposite of it. You should be able to see a statue. Behind the statue, you'll see a big white building. That's the public library. You can't miss it."

Mikoto thanked her as they pulled the heavy cart filled with equipment towards Nolin Fort. Mikoto couldn't help but wonder what kind of equipment they were carrying. Perhaps it was something related to the escaped prisoners.

After a while, they finally arrived at the fort. Nara thanked Mikoto for her help and handed her a small bag of coins as a token of appreciation. Mikoto tried to refuse the money, but Nara insisted, saying that it was her way of saying thanks.

Feeling a bit guilty for taking the money, Mikoto decided to use it for a good cause. She walked towards the direction of the Royal Palace, following Nara's instructions. As she walked, she couldn't help but admire the beauty of the city. The buildings were tall and majestic, with intricate designs carved into their walls. The streets were bustling with people going about their daily lives.

After a while, she arrived at the gate of the Royal Palace. She looked around and spotted the statue that Nara had mentioned. It was a statue of a knight holding a sword, with a dragon lying at his feet. Mikoto walked towards it and looked behind it, as Nara had instructed. There, she saw a big white building with a sign that read "Public Library" in bold letters.

Excited to learn more about the world she had found herself in, Mikoto made her way towards the library. But, she soon stopped in her tracks, pondering on the question of how she could read the letters of this world?

Mikoto was puzzled by her ability to read the symbols of this world's language. She knew that the characters were completely different from what she was used to, and yet she could read them as if they were her own language. She wondered if it was a side effect of her being transported to this new world or perhaps something else entirely.

As she walked towards the library, Mikoto continued to ponder this mystery. She noticed that the more she looked at the symbols, the more natural they seemed to her. It was almost as if her brain was adapting to this new language on its own.

After a few minutes of contemplation, Mikoto decided to focus on the task at hand and headed towards the library.

As Mikoto reached the public library, she found that the doors were locked and there were no signs of life inside. She wondered if the library had been closed due to the chaos that had occurred last night. She looked around for any clues or signs that could explain the closure of the library but found nothing.

Mikoto sat on the steps of the library, deep in thought. She was frustrated that she had come all this way only to find the library closed. She needed to find information about dragons and the only lead she had was the library. She decided to come back tomorrow and try again.

As she stood up to leave, she noticed a group of people gathering in the distance. Curiosity getting the best of her, she made her way towards the crowd to see what was happening. As she got closer, she realized that the people were not protesters but rather citizens of the city demanding bread from a local bakery.

One of the citizens, an older woman, stepped forward and addressed the baker. "We demand that you lower the price of bread! We can't afford to feed our families with these inflated prices. It's not fair to us hardworking people," she said, her voice shaking with anger.

Another citizen, a middle-aged man, added, "We understand that there's a shortage of flour, but you can't keep taking advantage of us like this. You need to find a solution to this problem and make bread affordable for everyone."

The baker looked nervously at the crowd and said, "I'm sorry, but the price of flour has gone up so much that I have to charge more for bread. I'm just trying to keep my business afloat."

Mikoto sighed, feeling sorry for the people who were struggling just to feed themselves. She wondered if there was anything she could do to help, but being unfamiliar with this world and its problems, she felt powerless.

The citizens raised their voices and started to criticize the nobles, blaming them for the shortage of flour and the inflated bread prices. "Why should we suffer while the nobles live their lavish lifestyles, eating cake and drinking wine?" one man shouted. "They care nothing for the people of this city!" a woman added. Others joined in, expressing their frustration and anger towards the nobles and the ruling class. "We demand bread at a fair price! We will not be ignored any longer!" they chanted, their voices echoing through the streets.

One of them shouted, "We are starving and they are living in luxury, something needs to be done!" Another added, "Why should they have everything while we struggle to put food on the table? It's not fair!" A third person chimed in, "We demand justice! The nobles should be held accountable for their actions and their greed!" The chants of the crowd grew louder and more passionate, as they expressed their anger towards the unfair distribution of wealth in their society.

Mikoto hurriedly ran back to the hotel, her mind racing with worry. She couldn't shake off the feeling that something terrible was about to happen.

As she arrived at the hotel, she rushed to the room where Kaito and Eira were staying. Bursting in, she found Kaito sitting at the desk, reading a book, and Eira sitting on couch, doing embroidery.

"Guys, something bad is happening in the city!" Mikoto exclaimed, breathlessly. "There's a shortage of flour, and the citizens are demanding bread at a reasonable price. They're also criticizing the nobles for their lavish lifestyle!"

Kaito looked up from his book, a concerned expression on his face. "That doesn't sound good. What do you think will happen?"

"I don't know," Mikoto said, shaking her head. "But I have a bad feeling about this. We need to leave as soon as possible."

Kaito and Eira look at each other in silence, considering Mikoto's suggestion. After a moment, Kaito speaks up.

"I agree, it's not safe for us to stay here. We should leave the capital and find a safer place to stay until things calm down."

Eira nods in agreement, "I don't want to risk getting caught up in any violence or riots. Let's pack our things and leave tonight."

Mikoto nods, relieved that they are all on the same page. She helps pack their belongings and they quickly make their way out of the hotel, avoiding the crowded streets.

As they reached the carriage, Mikoto took a deep breath before speaking, "I can't leave just yet. I need to find out more about the Scarlet Dragon Heart and I believe the library is my best chance to do that. I understand the situation is getting worse and it's not safe for us to stay here, but I have to take this risk. If the riots happen, the library might be destroyed and with it, any chance I have to go back to my world."

Kaito looked at her with concern, "But Mikoto, it's too dangerous. You could get hurt or worse, what if the riots happen and you're trapped?"

"I know it's dangerous," Mikoto said, "But I have to try. I need to do this for myself and for everyone else who might be stuck here. I'm not asking you to stay with me. I want you to leave with Eira and look after each other. I'll be okay."

Eira nodded in agreement, "Mikoto is right. We can't just leave her here alone, but we also can't stay. We need to leave now while we still have a chance."

Kaito looked at Mikoto once more before nodding, "Okay. We'll leave, but promise me you'll be careful. And if you find what you're looking for, come find us. We'll be waiting for you."

Mikoto smiled gratefully at him, "I will. Thank you for understanding."

Kaito reached into his pocket and pulled out a small pouch. "Here, take this. It's all the gold I have on me," he said as he handed the pouch to Mikoto.

Mikoto looked at the pouch and then back at Kaito. "I can't take this. You'll need it for your journey."

Kaito shook his head. "No, we'll manage. Besides, I want you to have it as a token of our appreciation for all the help you've given us."

Eira stepped forward and wrapped her arms around Mikoto. "Please be safe," she whispered into Mikoto's ear. She then pulled away and unclasped the pendant from her neck. "Take this, it's a family heirloom. Keep it safe until we meet again."

Mikoto took the pendant and looked at it closely. "Thank you, both of you. I will never forget the time we spent together."

Kaito and Eira both smiled at Mikoto before turning and walking away. Mikoto watched them disappear into the distance before turning and making her way towards the library.

That afternoon, the capital was fraught with tension. The citizens had been protesting since morning, demanding bread at a reasonable price, and their frustration had only grown as the day wore on. The guards were out in full force, but their fatigue was palpable - they had been up all night dealing with the aftermath of the chaos that had erupted the night before.

Mikoto could feel the tension in the air as she made her way towards the public library. She saw people arguing and shouting, their faces contorted with anger and frustration. The guards were doing their best to keep the peace, but it seemed like it was only a matter of time before things boiled over.

As she got closer to the library, she saw that it was indeed closed. The gates were shut and locked, and there was no sign of anyone inside. Mikoto felt a sinking feeling in her chest - if the library was closed, then she had no way of finding the information she needed to get back to her own world.

She stood there for a moment, unsure of what to do next. The tension in the air was palpable, and she could feel her heart pounding in her chest. She knew that things were about to get much worse before they got better.

"Yo, little missy!"

Mikoto turned around at the sound of someone calling out to her. She saw a figure with spiky yellow hair, wearing sunglasses and an aloha shirt. She immediately recognized him - it was Zep, the one who can help her return to her own world for the price of a Scarlet Dragon Heart.

"Fancy running into you here in the midst of all this madness."

Mikoto's eyes narrowed as she remained on guard. She still didn't know whether she could truly trust him, but at this point, she had no other choice. She took a deep breath and approached him cautiously, ready to defend herself if necessary.

Zep grinned widely as she approached, his sunglasses glinting in the sun. "Well, well, well, you look so lively. Did something good happen?"
