"Move in."
At Voight's command the team enters the warehouse in single file.
"Ruzik, Burgess take left." At the hallway Adam and Kim goes around the left and Voight and Hailey take the right.
When they get to another hallway that splits, Hailey takes left, and Voight goes right.
There is only one offender, so splitting up one by one is fine.
After Voight has cleared a few rooms, he reaches another hall and just as he is about to peak around the corner, the offender appears with a shotgun and before Voight can act, the shotgun is shoved into this torso and a gunshot goes off.
Voight is thrown back by the force and ends up unconscious on the floor.
"We've got gun shots." Hailey calls over the radio. "Adam, Kim?"
"We're good, no offender here." Adam responds.
"Voight?" Hailey radios to Voight but there is no response.
Hailey then starts moving into the direction that Voight went.
"Voight sound off." Hailey tries again but there is no response.
A few moments later there are numerous gun shots and then silence.
"Offender is in custody, roll an ambulance." Kim's voice sounds over the radio.
"Voight!" Hailey starts calling out as she moves through the hallways.
She stops dead as she looks down a hallway and sees Voight's feet sticking out around the corner.
"Voight!" Hailey shouts out as she starts running over.
As she turns the corner she finds Voight on the ground, out cold and the signs of bullet wholes in his vest.
"Officer down, roll and ambulance!" Hailey shouts over the radio.
"Voight, wake up." Hailey kneels next to Voight and tries to wake him up.
Hailey then pulls his bullet proof vest open and lifts it to see if there is any blood and she sighs with relief when she finds none.
There's a groan of pain as Voight starts to regain consciousness and then there is a deep intake of air as the intense pain pulls Voight into consciousness.
"Stay still, you were shot." Hailey tells Voight.
Just to be sure, Hailey pulls Voight's shirt up to inspect for wounds without bothering to check with Voight. She finds numerous black and blue bruises around his ribs, it definitely hit him hard.
Hailey softly pushes down on Voight's side and he lets out a groan of pain.
"It's broken." Hailey tells Voight that he has broken ribs.
"It's fine." Voight breathes through the pain and then lets out another groan of pain as he tries to get up.
"Sarge stay down." Hailey then places her hands on Voight's shoulders to keep him down.
"Hailey I am fine." Voight place his hands on Hailey's wrists to get her to let go of him.
"Please just stay down." There is a bit of a beg in the tone of Hailey's voice.
Voight has all intention to be up and on his feet by the time the rest of the team show up.
"Hailey, help me up." Voight's tone then changes to a serious one, one that cannot be ignored.
Hailey sighs as she gives up.
She then helps Voight to get on his feet before the rest of the team shows up.
"Sarge!" Adam's voice sounds from the other side of Voight as he and Kim shows up.
"I'm fine." Voight declares as he holds his arm around his midsection and he still has his other arm around Hailey, which he then removes.
By now Voight has started to take shallow breaths because his ribs are hurting like hell.
Not too long, a few EMT's shows up but Voight is dead set on driving to med himself until Hailey convinces him to get into the ambulance.
It makes her think about the day when Anna shot Voight, he took that shot like nothing happening, he refused any treatment being far to occupied with Anna. He then marched into Chicago Med like there was not a bullet lodged in his shoulder.
Once in the ambulance, Hailey slides in next to him, mainly to convince him to stay down but before the doors close Voight instructs Hailey to get back to the office to interrogate the offender.
"The team can handle ….." Hailey tries to argue to stay.
"Now Hailey." Voight gives an order with a tone that tells Hailey that the subject is not up for discussion.
After giving Voight one last look, she gets out.
Hailey watches as the ambulance drives off and she will not be surprised if Voight convinces them to drop him off around the next corner.
After getting to the office and discussing more evidence with the team and interrogating the suspect, Hailey then leaves to get to the hospital.
"How is he?" Hailey asks the doctor as she enters.
"He is fine." The doctor repeats what he has heard from Voight about 20 times. "He's in there."
Hailey gives two knocks and then she enters the room, only to find Voight on his feet busy buttoning up his shirt.
Voight looks over his shoulder to see who it is.
"Why am I not surprised?" Hailey is really not surprised that Voight is not in bed but on his feet and on his way out.
"Just sign out here." As they step out of the room, the doctor hands Voight a clip board with his discharge form. Voight is still supposed to stay in observation, but he has given up and just let Voight do what he wants.
After signing they leave the hospital.
They reach Hailey's car and Voight opens the passenger door, only for Hailey to pull it open and hold it.
Voight stops and gives Hailey a look of 'I'm fine', but still gives a groan of pain as he gets in.
Hailey then walks around the car and leaves Voight to close the door himself.
"Give me an update." That is Voight's first words when Hailey gets in and so she starts filling him in on the details.
As nothing else is going to happen tonight they go home.
They have a night, just like any other. Eat, after Hailey placed Voight on light duty and cooked, they have their usual coffee after, while watching tv.
Late night, usually the time they both go to bed, Hailey steps up in front of Voight where he is sitting on the couch and holds out her hand.
Voight silently stares at her hand. "I'm fine."
Hailey rolls her eyes. "I promise not to tell anyone that you accepted help."
Voight watches Hailey for a few moments and then he takes hold of Hailey's hand and let her help him up with a deep sigh of suppressed pain.
Just as Hailey is about to step away, Voight holds onto her hand and pulls her back.
He then places his hands on either side of Hailey' head, pulls her closer and gives her a kiss on her forehead.
"Thanks."
"I would hug you but…." Before Hailey can finish her sentence, Voight pulls her into a hug and Hailey then carefully places her arms around him. "I'm glad you're ok."
