Chapter 11: Operation Slay the Dragon: Prelude

Private military/NSA jet code name "Falcon One" flying from Washington D.C. to LA. 6:30 AM. December 5, 2014

In her private cabin in her NSA Military Jet, Brigadier General Diane Beckman was hard at work and at her element. Going through reports, giving out orders, all round being the boss of the NSA. She reveled in the power that her position gave to her. That she believed in her mind mind you, that herself she deservedly and rightly obtained over the years due to the 'bullshit' that she went through over the years. Sipping her coffee and looking at the latest reports with gleam in her eyes, she lets out a small smile. Knowing that years of hard work and planning that she put in was going to pay off very soon. That the plan that she put in motion years ago was finally coming to fruition. That the organization called the Ring was finally going to be destroyed, avenging the sight, the humiliations, and pain that was put on her years ago. Not only that, if the plan comes full circle, she will have full control of The Ring, the NSA and the CIA, with all three organization resources under her thumb, allowing her to run them as she sees fit, AKA. The 'right way'. Making her the most powerful woman in the world and with its resources at the palm in her hand, that she can make the world a better place for the US.

"Finally…" Thought Beckman thought. ' The power that I had once had, the power that was lost and taken by others, will be mine again. The power and prestige that I worked so hard to achieve, that I earned will be mine again!" She thought with a smile, her eyes gleaming almost manically, allowing her to think back on that time. When her story begins.

It started when Beckman was a young woman that just graduated from Air Force Academy with her younger sister Mary a year or two behind her. She and her sister came from a military family with an old school military man for a father who wanted sons, but got daughters instead. Home life wasn't so bad if you can stand the cold indifference she got every time Beckman saw her father but he did put a sense of duty and loyalty to her country. And above all, the respect for power. Its one of the reasons why she joined the Academy out of high school in the first place. During her time in the Academy she was known for being one of the top students of her year. With the work drive and smarts to prove it. She was also known to her peers to be a "cold-hearted, stuck up bitch" so to speak, with the attitude to prove it. Beckman didn't care. All she wanted to do was serve her county with a position of power and her so called classmates can go fuck themselves for all she cared. It was also during this time she was reproached and recruited by the Ring.

She learned through the recruiter that the Ring was a shadow ops group within the military/Spy community that was formed after WWII with civilian help in the private sector. Its main mission of the organization is to protect American interest in the world from other political factions and other county's plans by any means necessary and no matter the cost. The Ring was, at the time, a collection of various different wealthy family's, high ranking politicians, and high ranking Military personal that have major influences in the county's military and spy programs She was to be trained to be one of their field agents during the Cold War. She showed the type of attitude, skills, and mindset that they were looking for at the time and was quickly flagged during her academy days. With the main goal to recruit her asap when the chance for it came available.

She accepted the offer and then was sent to The farm of the CIA for training. There she was prepped, trained and groomed to be a field agent of the Ring. And then afterwards, sent out to Germany under the guise of her Air Force assignment, with her main mission was to protect American interest in the east at all times during the "Red wave". During her time in Germany, she quickly proved herself time and time again as a field agent of the Ring and as a capable officer in her military career, allowing her to shoot up in the ranks in both organizations very quickly. Oh course, there were bumps in the road so to speak. Her quick rise in the ranks in the air force did not sit well for some of the top brass at the time. Some believed that a woman's place was in the kitchen and the home, not in the military. Thinking that she had no right as a woman to shoot up this fast in rank, some of the Generals of the time, started to try to make Beckman's life a living hell. With the main goal to blackball her from the military and make her an example to other women who dared to do the same thing in their careers.

However, members of the Ring got wind of this plot and put a stop to it. Then, the Ring made it very clear to those who were in part of this plot, that any of them standing in her way in promotion and advancement would be a very bad ideal. Bad as is for their careers in the military and their personal lives as well. After the 'talk' with the Ring, the Generals left Beckman alone and she was free to do her job with no issues.

It was during this period of her life that she became one the top agents in the business. This allowed her to meet some of the other peers who were considered the best in the CIA's missions. It was during one of these missions that Beckman met both Roan Montgomery and Mary Gunter A, K, A the Frost Queen. All three were considered the best of the best and started to work together more often. It was also during this time that she and Mary became very good friends. She was also partnered up with Roan at time as well. They became one of the best spy parring at the time. To Beckman, it made sense to team up with Roan. He is one the best in the game and she was also one best. It was a winnable combination of a team and Their record proved it. She also believed that she resisted Roan's advances and tamed the Lothario, thinking that anything he threw at her, she could resist due to the fact that she heard it all during her time at the Farm. Of course, with Roan charms and his gentlemanly ways hitting her 24/7, she didn't last long and soon they were together as a couple.

To this day, Beckman still thinks about him. The times that she had with him were best in her life and she truly believes that he is the love of her life. But sadly, for the sake of her career and her future in the Ring she had to end it. Even though she loved him dearly and was her heart, Beckman didn't see him as husband material due to his womanizing ways and in 1989, dissolved both the partnership and their relationship and moved on. Focusing more on her career, she went back stateside. She gained a high position in the NSA due to her experience and put the knowledge that she had learned on the field to good use in the organization. When she joined the NSA, she met the two the head programmers of the NSA, Stephen Bartowski and Hartley Winterbottom. They were in charge of the Cyber Security sector for the NSA and was working on a top secret project that she was not cleared to learn about yet. Impressed with their work and knowing their importance to NSA, she asked her old friend Mary to be their handler, not knowing that she just played matchmaker. She had also met her future husband during this time and soon after, she was married to him with a Daughter on the way.

It was also around this time she was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and was chosen to be part of the high table of the elders of the Ring. Oh the power and prestige that it brought. It was nothing like she ever felt. She would never show it or admit it, but she quickly became addicted to the power. Pretty much getting off on it anytime she would flex it. Hell, she used it to help her sister Mary's career in the Air force and get to the rank that she thought her sister should be at the time. But even as an elder, issues still liked to show up on her lap, bringing some hiccups along the way. The biggest one being Langston Graham.

Like her, Graham was recruited straight from the CIA's 'Farm' and proved himself time and time again in the field, earning his place in the Coalition. He was considered to be the "Wild Card" of the Ring. Known for his unorthodox plans, success rate, and the high body count that he tends to leave behind after every mission that he was on. If you wanted something done fast, hard, and to make a point to a country or some jackass of a warlord, terrorist etc, Graham was the one that you called in for the job. It also didn't help that Beckman thought he was the most arrogant motherfucker that she ever met. So, them not getting along was pretty much the understatement of the century. Every time they had to work together, they clashed badly, butting heads every time on what to do and any little thing. To him, she was as uptight, controlling, high strung frigid bitch with a napoleon complex who needed to check her privilege and to her he was a raging fucking asshole, who was compensating at the highest degree. Their rivalry had gotten so bad, they nearly compromised a Ring mission that they were on, forcing the Ring's Director to get involved and reprimand the both of them for their stupidity.

When she was promoted to being an Elder of the Ring, Graham was also promoted as well at the same time. And how things were between them, it was no surprise that they became rivals at the meetings. Their back and forth was tempered by the last time they worked together, and the Director's warnings not bring that type of behavior to the job. However, Their rivalry was put on hold as two major issues popped up that took precedence for the Ring. The first was the fall of the Soviet Union in the early 90's and ending of the cold war and the other one was the sudden death of the Director of Ring who at the time did not name a lead successor to replace him. These two major events sadly were the start of the end for both her and Graham in the Ring.

Infighting engulfed the Ring, with many factions trying to take a hold of power. Beckman did her best to ride the insanity that was happening, while grabbing much power for herself that she can get away with, but in the end it didn't matter. When the dust settled, the Roberts family came to power and took control of the Ring. An old family that had connections with both the spy game and the military itself since the Civil War. They were one of the oldest and most respected families in the Ring. The family was led by the Roberts brothers, with the eldest becoming Director (His name escaped her at the moment) while the youngest Wally ran the Family business and was the face of the family. The First order of business that the new Director made priority above anything else was a purge of the old guard and to start anew. And by his orders, It was done by any means necessary. Blackmail, kidnapping, assassinations. All done with the approval of the new Director. Graham saw what was blowing and quickly took the Director's offer to resign, Beckman however didn't, thinking that the new Director was full of shit and he didn't have the balls to do it. She learned very quickly how wrong she was and paid the price for it.

To make a point to the rest of the holdouts in the Ring and to show the power/reach that he had, the Director decided to make an example of Beckman and allies. He order Beckman and all her allies in the Ring, no matter what role they played in the Ring or position that they hold in it, to be taken from their homes in the dead of night and brought to him. Once all of them were brought to his office in the HQ of the Ring, he ordered his men to beat all of them into a black and bloody blue pulp. He had his men do this for ten minutes straight. Afterword's, he force the battered, bloody grope to stand up, with the Director himself dragging Beckman to the front and made her face her co-conspirators. Then, the Director pulled out an SIG-Sauer P226 from his jacket, racked the slide, aimed, and then personally executed all of Beckman allies in front of her. Their blood spraying onto her face and body every time he pulled the trigger. Once he was done, he reloaded the gun, calmly walked to her, pistol whipped her in the face, knocking her to the to the ground, and then kneecapped her in her left leg, causing her to scream in agony. Then, in a very calm manner, like he was talking about the weather, he kicked her in the stomach to quiet her so she can hear him and told her that if she didn't resign as an Elder, the next people she will see get beaten and killed in front of her, will be her sister and her family, her husband and her daughter. That night, scared, wounded, bleeding, angry and humiliated, Beckman resign her post of Elder of the Ring right there on the floor.

Later that night, she was "found" with the others in an abandoned warehouse outside of town by a black op's unit in the Rings pocket. The "official" story is that a local terrorist group was to blame and the unit just got to her on time before they killed her. Beckman spent six months in the hospital healing and learning how to walk again. It was during that time, she vowed revenge against the Ring. Knowing that she was on the fast track of being the next in line of being the Director the NSA and the rank of Brigadier General, she called in a few favors to speed the proceedings a bit more in her favor. And Once she was out of the hospital, she was given both the rank and the NSA. Once she was sworn in, she was brief and brought up to speed about the Intersect project and Stephen Bartowski involvement in it. There, her plans for payback started to take shape and as the saying goes, the rest is history.

But then her thoughts went to last two years and wondered how the hell this came to be. How her war against The Ring came down to one man. And just any man, but a nerd. And not just any nerd, but the one nerd, the one person that had to be the son of the two most dangerous people that she ever knew. Stephen and Mary Bartowski. Orion and The Frost Queen. She knew that either of them found out what she was planning for their son, she be a dead woman walking no question. Neither of them would not stand for some of the shit that she slapped on Chuck when he was an 'asset' and she also was fully aware that if they ever find out her future plan for him, nothing in this world would save her their wrath. Nothing.

"I need to be very careful when it comes to both Mary and Stephen or everything that I've have planed and worked for would be for nothing." Thought Beckman. "If everything goes to plan, then all the blood, sweat and petty bullshit that I have gone through in the years would be worth it. "Then I can fix that mistake that caught Deb in the crossfire and hopefully get her career back on track." Beckman thought.

Oh that little tidbit was going to be fun to clean up and fix. If you asked Beckman if her daughter would be willing to join the 'family business' so to speak, she wouldn't be lying that she would be a very happy camper that her daughter did. Luckily for her, Debra did want to join the 'family business' but as a field agent. And there was the problem that Beckman had. Having her work in The NSA office in DC as an analyst, where she was safe from the dangers of field work. No issues. But her baby girl being out on the field as an agent, scared the shit out of her, knowing the dangers that came with the job. But she was dead set on doing it, so, with reluctance, Beckman allowed it. So with her blessing, Beckman pulled a few strings that allowed Debra to compete for a spot on the CAT squad with three other female agents from NSA, chosen by Beckman personality, to represent the NSA.

Sadly it didn't go well. All the female agents of the NSA (including Debra) failed the test. Badly. When the news of The NSA bombing the CAT squads test spread to the other alphabet agencies, Beckman became the laughing stock of the US spy community. This of course pissed Beckman off something fierce, mainly due to being the butt of the joke on this, but also the fact all of the NSA agents (including her own flesh and blood) failed and did so poorly on all the tests, which Beckman thought it was not possible. Believing that Graham had a hand of screwing with the test results so her people failed and made her look stupid, but she couldn't prove it. When she learned that the DEA was going to put a handler alongside the CIA one, Beckman decided to kill two birds with one stone. She went over Graham's head and had Debra installed as the NSA handler for the CAT squad with the excuse to improve the NSA's relationship with the DEA and the CIA. The look that Graham gave her when this happened makes her get off every time.

But Beckman wasn't satisfied with that little maneuver that she pulled. Completely believing that Graham fucked with her and her agents on the test, Beckman started to planned a little revenge on Graham via the CAT squad. Getting back at the prick was something that Beckman loved to do so she started to feed bad intelligence to the squad, hoping that they would fail and make Graham look like an idiot. However, she underestimated the squad itself. Even with the bad intel that Beckman fed them, they were able to complete their missions with great success. Which in turn, irritated Beckman something fierce and pissed her off. And at her wits end, did something that she would later regret.

During the mission against "The Gentle Hand" in Brazil, Beckman ordered Debra to plant a modified tracking bug in Zondra Rizzo combat boots with the excuse to flush her out as a possible mole in the group. With the plan to later "tip off" anonymously one of the other handlers in the group and let the dominoes start falling so to speak. When Debra confirmed that the bug was planted, Beckman then sent an old palm pilot with heavy encryption installed on it that was programmed to be used in conjunction with the bug, with a letter anonymously to Augusto Gaez, head of the "Gentle Hand". In the letter, Gaez was told that the palm was an early warning system that would alert Gaez when the CAT squad was 500 meters to his location, allowing him 6 to 10 minutes to escape. With all this in place, Beckman believed that the CAT squad would fall apart and make Graham a fool that he was. Unfortunately, she underestimated Gaez tremulously and paid a major price for it.

Somehow, someway, Gaez was able to crack the encryption on the palm pilot and used it to track the squad back to their base of operations. A villa 20 minutes outside of Brazil. Once he found it, he sent a massive hit squad with orders to kill the CAT squad and to sent a message to any Government agency in the free world that fucking with "The Gentle Hand" came with major consequences. As the massive gun battle took place at the villa with Gaez looking on at a safe distance, he thought it was all over and a major problem was solved. However, Gaez underestimated the CAT squad itself and due to the skill of the four main agents, they were able to repel the attack and kill all the members of the hit squad. This of course had Gaez running like a scalded dog and going underground fearing a major retaliatory strike when he witnessed this. An emergency recall was placed due to the fact they were compromised. And even though the battle at the villa was won, they did not come out unscathed. All four members of the squad were wounded in the firefight with the handlers being the worst off of the bunch. The worst of them being Debra herself. She took several hits during the firefight with the biggest one being a bullet in the lower back almost cutting her lower spine in half, paralyzing her to the waist down.

When Beckman learned about the attack hours later, Walker had found the bug in Rizzo's boots and Graham had launched an investigation into the whole thing. Beckman realizing that everything that she planned for was in danger because of this SNAP FU, she started to stonewall to the best of her ability while making it look like she was cooperating with the investigation. When she was able to visit Debra in the hospital, she ordered her to keep quiet about the bug, will spare no expense to get her walking again, and started to look for ways to make Rizzo the scapegoat of this whole fuckup. But before she can get started, Graham cleared Rizzo from any wrong doing unfortunately and started to look into the handlers. Luckily for Beckman the DEA threw a shit fit when Graham started to look into the handlers, delaying the investigation even more. Even with this bit of luck, the president got involved with the investigation and ordered all the handlers to put on modified assignments until the investigation cleared them of any wrongdoing. This of course had the reputations of the handlers take a massive nose dive and made them pariahs within the spy community, something that Beckman does regret happening to Debra.

"No matter." Thought Beckman. "Once the plan goes off, I can take control of the investigation and get Debra cleared. Then I can make sure that any rewards that were blocked from her are given to her and then we can focus on getting Debra out of that chair and walking again." As Beckman muses on, her desk speaker goes off, forcing her out her thoughts. "Yes?" Beckman answers.

"Sorry to bother you Ma'am, but just got in touch with the pilot. We are 10 minutes out from LA." Her assistant said. "Very good, have my things and the hotel room ready when we land, I want everything ready to go when we reach The Castle at 08:30. Is that understood?" Beckman stated.

"Yes Ma'am." Her assistant stated. "Good" and Beckman turned off the speaker. As she started to prepare for landing one thought was going through her head "Soon, very soon, the world will be mine."

A/N: So… hi… I know it's been a minute, but as stated before in the beginning, Writer's Block sucks so much! Not only that, this chapter went about four to five revisions until I was OK with it and I had a major health scare in early February that messed up my leg. But I'm good to go and this chapter is in the can! Because of that, I can get started on the insanity that is the chase itself that I promised. Now it is not going to take as long as this did (I hope) due to the fact I got the main chase and action planned out, so hopefully I can get back on my one to two month per chapter groove that I was doing with this fic and get back on track. Also have a new fic in the works and it's in the baby stages right now. All I'm going to tell you is that it's a Neon Genesis Evangelion/Mobile Suit Gundam crossover fic that takes place during the one year war. Once that's published, I will be splitting my time between this fic and that one, so be prepared for that. Anyway, the next chapter is the beginning of the chase and plan. Until then, Later all!
