Ch. 14 The Way Forward
Wide eyed Shego stared at the smiling face of her sister Destiny. Destiny's smile was so wide it looked like she was grinning from ear to ear, her cheeks stained with tears of joy as Jacob held her. She couldn't believe what she was hearing, her sister was…. pregnant.
"What…What did you say?" She asked in a complete state of shock.
"I'm pregnant Shego. Jacob and I are going to have a baby."
"Baby." She said repeating her sister's words as if she was having trouble trying to comprehend what the word meant.
Shego's eyes moved back and forth between Destiny and Jacob. Then she slowly looked her sister up and down examining her trying to see if she was telling the truth or not. She didn't look pregnant, Shego thought a swollen belly was the sign of pregnancy.
"But you don't look pregnant?" She said as her response.
Destiny chuckled as she wiped her face clear of the tears that trailed down her cheeks. "I'm only 6 weeks too early for the baby bump."
Destiny looked at her younger sibling. Her smile started to fade as she began to wonder why Shego wasn't smiling as well or showing some excitement about the news she just shared. Was she not happy for her?
"Shego you don't look to happy about the news." Destiny stated getting straight to the point.
Shego stared at her for a few seconds then she twitched as if she was about to lose balance but braced herself against the counter in the room. She raised her left hand and rubbed the side of her face, her head looking down towards the floor.
"Shego did you hear me?" Destiny asked her voice clear and Jacob, who was just watching, recognized her tone. That was the tone of a commanding officer not a concerned sister.
Shego held up her left hand as she stopped rubbing her head but still not meeting her older sister's gaze. Her hand motions saying to give her a moment as she was now truly processing what everything meant.
"Pregnant." Shego muttered. Her tone was different than before she didn't sound like she was having trouble comprehending anymore.
Shego retracted her fingers leaving her index extended as she was now clearly pointing at Destiny. "So you two?" She asked as she motioned her left index finger between Destiny and Jacob.
Destiny nor Jacob gave a response since she wasn't making eye contact with them currently. Jacob gripped Destiny tighter. Trying to reassure her that everything would be ok. He could feel how tense she had become and he didn't want her getting too upset after all that would be disastrous for their child growing inside her.
"How long?" Shego asked.
"Excuse me?" Jacob said not clear on what the raven haired woman was getting at.
"This." She said while motioning her wrist in a circular motion. "Between you and my sister. How long?"
"Seven years." Destiny answered. "What's it to you?" Destiny asked as she removed herself from Jacob's embrace and placed her hands on her hips.
Though Shego couldn't see it Destiny had taken a defensive stance. Her fingers clenching her hips as she became more tense. Though Jacob couldn't see her expression her brow was furrowed to the point she'd looked like she was about to fire beams from them.
"Wow, seven years." Shego said as she raised her head up to look at the ceiling.
She brushed her hair back from her face with her left hand and exhaled. Destiny watched her every move and Jacob could feel the tension rising. It was almost becoming too hard to breathe. It was as if both women had ignited their glows somehow internally and even though their eyes hadn't met it felt like a weird dominance display between the two.
Destiny wasn't taking a liking to Shego's response. The way she was acting was how a woman would react when she found out she had been cheated on.
"Is there something you want to tell me?" Destiny asked.
Jacob reached out for her, placing his hands on her shoulder. However Destiny shrugged, removing his hands from her body and she stepped towards Shego. Jacob stepped aside as he normally did when things got heated between the two sisters.
Shego heard Destiny approaching her. The sound of her boots clacking against the tile floor as she got closer. Shego's head was still raised towards the ceiling as she took steady breaths, not bothering to acknowledge her sister as she approached.
Destiny observed her sister, her hands bracing her against the counter gripping the edges rather tight. She's seen Shego take this stance before when she had once gotten into an argument with their younger brother Mego. It had happened so long ago it was before Shego had joined the force and Mego had something to upset her. She remembered the raven haired woman taking this exact stance on the kitchen island in their home before she struck Mego for some off handed comment he made.
However Destiny wasn't her younger brother and pregnant or not she was not about to put up with Shego's behavior anymore. She stopped her advance towards Shego. The younger sister chuckled a bit when she heard that Destiny's footsteps had ceased and then she finally met her gaze. Her head lowered slowly as black furrowed brows met ivory furrowed ones and Jade eyes met violet ones. Shego didn't break eye contact with her because she was all too familiar with the situation she was in. Destiny was just outside of Shego's range.
Destiny was only an inch taller than Shego and she was getting herself ready to counter her if need be that's why she was standing just outside Shego's reach so the younger woman would have to try to reach her and that's when Destiny would lash out.
"Relax I'm not about to fight a pregnant woman." Shego said as she eased more into the counter.
"Then what's with the attitude?" Destiny asked while maintaining her stance, tension still visible in her.
"Because I'm disappointed." Shego answered her brows were less furrowed but the look of disapproval was still there.
Destiny craned her eyebrow as her response. What could she disapprove of? Jacob? What gives her the right. Destiny didn't reply her craned eyebrow demanding a response in return from her sibling.
Shego sighed. " It was supposed to be me and you, out there, Destiny." Shego said pointing at a wall which was indicative of another meaning.
"We are supposed to kill Godzilla! Don't you remember that? You promised me it would be us. You promised!" Shego said as she grabbed Destiny's jacket her hands trembling a bit.
Destiny looked Shego in her eyes and could see the betrayal in them. She was honestly upset with her over this. A promise that was made what seemed a lifetime ago.
"I'm sorry Shego. I was a different person then." Destiny said as she took her hands into her own. "I was angry and I still am. But I've had time to think, to heal and grow. I want more out of my life than just revenge. Don't you?"
Shego gave her an incredulous look. This was mirroring their talk the day they left for San Francisco.
"Of course I do but what life is there to live with that thing out there ready to just snatch it away at a moment's notice?" Shego countered with a question of her own. "There is no peace, no moving on, nothing Destiny. Now you're pregnant and where does that leave me? This." Shego said as she spread her arms out to show she was talking to the GJSDF itself. "Was all I've known since I could remember."
Destiny sighed the tension in her dropping. She wanted to be mad at Shego and part of her still was but the woman she is looking at is a product of her own making. She instilled the notion of revenge into Shego and kept that fire burning for longer that she would have liked to admit.
"I know and I'm sorry Shego but this is my life now. I've started to see things in a different light these past few years. You have to look around you and see the bigger picture."
Shego watched as Jacob embraced Destiny once more and how she leaned into his embrace. She knew what Destiny was trying to say but the sheer shock of it all was acting like a blocker to what would normally be called common sense and she felt herself growing more frustrated as she looked at them.
"You." She said pointing at Jacob.
"Me?" Jacob responded.
"This is your fault. You kept intruding on me and my sister. Kept trying to wriggle your way into herife knowing she had a greater calling. Well you got what you wanted, are you happy now?"
"Shego, that's not fair, you can't fault Jacob for inability to change!" Destiny said.
"Why not, it's true. Before he showed up we were just fine it should be me piloting Kiryu alongside you not him!" Shego said her anger rising.
"You know that's not how it works. We were chosen. Our synergy is unique." Destiny said to Shego.
"Yeah I'll bet. It's not hard to have unique synergy when you're clearly fucking your teammate." The raven haired woman said in a huff.
"Shego." Jacob said gaining her attention. "Destiny helped me out of a dark place I was in. I lost my sister Kate when she was only ten and then my father had a stroke and I lost him not too long after. We both know how you feel…"
"Clearly you don't!" She said angrily. "This meant everything to me. This is why I worked so hard and now you're telling me that's all being ripped away."
"Shego we were never gonna pilot Kiryu together." Destiny told her. Her eyes were low at first but then she met her sister's gaze to see the expression she held. The shock of hearing those words come from her mouth.
"What are you saying?" Shego asked.
"When I joined the Self Defense Force you were only ten. But you had such a conviction in you. A conviction I put there because of the hatred and anger I held, but then I met Jacob and year later I found that darkness lifting as we trained together." Destiny said a smile returning to her face as she remembered the fond memories of her and Jacob. "Next thing I know we were paired together because we had the best synergy together out of our squad mates. I knew then we wouldn't take down Godzilla together. Shego there is something I never told you because I thought you would give up on me and you and find something, or someone to lighten your life like I have."
Shego's eyes drifted off as she heard those words. Her thoughts drifted to Bonnie and admittedly to herself she thought of Kim too. Shego cleared her thoughts when she remembered that Destiny had something to say.
"Out with it." Shego said as she gestured to her sister. Surely it can't get any worse than this.
"You've never been through compatibility training. So you don't know the rules. Once you are paired with someone that matches your flow, your rhythm. Someone who can go off the slightest of notions you give without a word having to be spoken between the two of you, you become linked." Destiny started to explain.
Destiny could see Shego take that in but she's heard that before. Destiny had to explain it to a thirteen year old Shego once she had started compatibility training with Jacob.
"I know that you told me that years ago. That's why I know it's supposed to be me and you out there Destiny." Shego said as she gestured between herself and Destiny.
"I'm not done." Destiny said. " The reason it can never be me and you is because once a partner is chosen for you. There is no one else, Shego."
Destiny watched as green eyes widened in disbelief. Destiny can see what looked like Shego's whole world coming down around her.
"I cannot pilot Kiryu without Jacob, nor he without me. We are physically, mentally and emotionally incapable of doing so. The compatibility training makes it so. His scores were a reflection of mine back when we were selected. The training takes out skills and combines them into one. On the battlefield we are an extension of each other; we are no longer just Jacob and Destiny. I knew then that dream of yours wouldn't come to pass and I hoped I could convince you otherwise but you've always been so headstrong."
Shego sat back and leaned against the counter again. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. She felt dizzy she cradled her head in her hands as she took it all in. Her and Destiny would never avenge their parents' deaths. She was living in a lie all these years. Destiny let her live that lie all the while knowing the truth.
"With me being pregnant I won't be able to pilot Kiryu anymore. Which means neither will Jacob." Destiny stated. "You will be chosen to pilot Kiryu. I have no doubt about that but it will be with someone who best fits you."
"Like who Destiny? I've busted my ass to be compatible with you for all these years." Shego said the displeasure still apparent in her tone.
"Possibly Bonnie or Yori. Maybe even Kim, she's shown considerable promise." Jacob said offering a suggestion.
Shego scoffed. "The first year? Yeah right. She won't even have a chance at that. Not anymore thanks to you." Shego practically hissed.
"What's that supposed to mean? What happened to Kim wasn't Jacob's fault." Destiny said.
"If you made her stay back at HQ back in Japan she would have never been injured. I would never have…hurt her." Shego said.
"I never told her to break the chain of command when she tagged Anguirus. I'm just one person Shego and yes I do make mistakes and Lord knows I try to make up for those mistakes."
"Save it that's another thing you ruined for me. Congratulations on the baby, I'm sure you'll make wonderful parents." Shego said and then dismissed herself from the room.
"Shego!" Destiny called after her.
Jacob stopped her. Destiny sighed that is not how she was hoping it would go. Shego was more than a sister to Destiny; she was like the one best friend everyone gets in their life that you wouldn't know what to do without them. It hurt her to see her sister react so negatively.
Jacob held Destiny close to him slowly rubbing her back. "It's ok she's been in a mood ever since this morning with Betty. Turns out Kim's father is pulling her from the force."
Destiny looked up at him with wide eyes. Her expression showed that she wanted to know more and Jacob sat Destiny down and filled her in on what had transpired earlier.

Ron was walking down the corridors of the self defense force he was on his way out to Bueno Nacho. Since Kim was still recovering he would bring her something back. He couldn't honestly remember the last time he had been to Bueno Nacho alone. Kim had always gone with him and it felt strange going without her like it was wrong of him to do. He rounded the corner and his ears were met with loud striking sounds. As he grew closer to the sound his curiosity grew as well. The sounds of the strikes growing louder. They were erratic to Ron as the strikes would come in succession then singular or start singular and then come in succession again. He stopped when he saw a young woman was the source of the sounds.
Ron watched as she moved gracefully around what he could only assume was a wooden dummy with several arms poking out at different angles and height. Ron watched as she would strike it once move to her left and perform several more strikes, then strike it once more. The woman was dressed in a black karate gi that was fastened tightly to her by a black obi. Ron watched as the woman flowed like water as she went through her motions and it was only as she stopped and turned to take a break did Ron notice it was Yori.
Yori in return stopped in her tracks when she saw Ron standing there. The two locked eyes as Yori studied his features. Ron and Destiny were the only ones to not engage in battle since he was getting a S.O.S. out to the JSDF and Destiny was tending to Kim's injury she received in the fight against Yin. From his expression she guessed he wasn't expecting her to notice him there. That thought would be right as she's been focusing on Yin. She was outclassed in every category and if it wasn't for the JSDF she would have died.
Ron stared at the Japanese woman. Not because he wasn't expecting her to turn around, it was because of how beautiful she looked despite her bruises and injuries. She had bandaging around her head and there was a dark bruise on the left side of her face where Yin had landed a hard blow in their fight. Ron remembered that she had bandages on her torso as well and was instructed to rest. Despite her injuries her movements while she was practicing on the wooden dummy would say otherwise.
"Uh, hello, hola." Ron said realizing that he was most standing there with the most awkward expression on his face. "Not hola, that's Spanish I meant Konichiwa?" He said pronouncing the last word with the least amount of confidence.
Yori bowed if only to break the awkward tension she found herself in.
"I hope I wasn't interrupting your…" Ron trailed off as he didn't know what Martial Arts she was practicing.
"Wing Chun." Yori answered as she reached down to grab a bottle of water. She twisted the cap open and down the entire bottle. Though she wasn't showing it she was more tired than she led on.
"Gesundheit." Ron said misunderstanding what Yori.
Yori laughed a bit, Ron may not be the best soldier in GJSDF, Yori did find him humorous.
"No." Yori said as she stopped laughing. " Wing Chun is a martial arts fighting style. I have been practicing it for as long as I can remember. Both me and Yin." Yori said her expression changing as she remembered the better days with Yin that seem long gone.
Ron, seeing this, approached Yori and lightly placed his hand on her shoulder.
"You two were like sisters I'm guessing. I know how it feels to be on the opposing end of one of your closest friends." Ron told her.
"You do?" She asked as she looked up at Ron.
He nodded. "Me and Kim go way back and she's like a sister to me. We've had our fair share of arguments and each time I thought I'd lost my sister for good. But somehow we manage to make amends." He told her. "Ok so it may not be exactly like yours as Kim as never pointed a sword at me, but if you're as close as you say you guys were then you'll be able to reach her. Sometimes all you have to do is knock some sense into her if she's not gonna listen naturally." He said, giving her a big smile.
This in turn made her smile, and Yori thought maybe there is more to Ron than what he shows on the outside.
"So you've had to knock some sense into Kim?" Yori asked with a light chuckle.
"Not physically, no I would never hit a woman." He answered with a light chuckle of his own.
Rufus popped out of Ron's pocket and climbed up to his shoulder and began chattering at him catching both he and Yori by surprise.
"Oh that's right." He said. "We were heading to Bueno Nacho to grab some lunch." Ron said as he gently petted Rufus. "Well don't let us keep you. Just take it easy don't want you to overdo it." He said as he waved a farewell and proceeded to walk out of the room.
Yori watched as Ron walked out the room. She looked back at the training dummy before she felt the familiar rumble of her stomach signaling that she was indeed hungry as well. She looked back over too Ron as he continued on his way. Normally she'd meet with Shego and the others for lunch it was what they did. It had become a part of her pattern, her new routine in everyday life. Besides when they went to San Francisco she hadn't been to a restaurant or fast food spot in a while.
Training, going on missions and living at GJSDF has been all she knew since she transferred here. Sure she's been invited out before by Jacob, Destiny and the others but majority of the time she refused because of how past events played out with people she grew close to but Ron was different. He was an enigma to her but an interesting one. That image of him caring for her when Anguirus attacked Japan never left her mind. But would she go with him? Would it be bad to break routine just this once?
Ron had reached the door that led out to the field. He and Kim used the field as a shortcut to get to Bueno Nacho. Rufus chattered excitedly as they came to the door that would lead them to their favorite spot on Earth.
"Excuse me Stoppable-san." A voice said, making Ron turn around.
He looked to see Yori had caught up to him. She almost looked out of breath, he wasn't sure if it was the training or the fact she ran after him despite her injuries maybe both but he could see she was hiding the fatigue well.
"What's up Yori? I didn't forget anything did I?" He asked as he checked his person. "My wallet is still here and Rufus is accounted for."
Yori shook her head. " No, I was hoping I could join you and…" She started to ask but her voice trailed off as she couldn't remember his pet mole rats name.
"Rufus." Ron replied with a smile.
"It wouldn't be a problem if I joined you and Rufus at Bueno Nacho would it?" She asked.
Ron's eyes went wide. He never thought she'd ask to go somewhere with him. He always wanted to get to know Yori better but he figured it would be somewhere a bit fancier than Bueno Nacho.
"Sure we don't mind, do we little buddy?" Ron asked as he looked over to Rufus.
Rufus nodded, showing that he would appreciate her company. Ron smiled even more and Yori returned the smile and he opened the door for her. Yori walked and Ron followed as they made their way to Bueno Nacho.

GJSDF R&D Department 9:30 a.m.
In The R&D Department sat the brightest minds on the planet two of which were Dr. James Possible and Dr. Vivian Porter. It was here the two doctors helped improve the self defense force. They were in the middle of working on improvements that can be made to the kevlar attire the soldiers wore. It was the design that Vivian had presented to Betty before the incident with Mothra.
However James was having a hard time working. He could only think about his conversation with Shego from earlier. He could only guess she heard the news from Dr. Director about removing Kim from the force. He didn't want to, she had worked hard to get here. She focused on her studies and passed as valedictorian of Middleton High school, kept her physique up by going on early morning jogs and eating healthy when she could. However, he almost lost her. She's his only daughter and first born child and he could have lost her to some madwoman with a sword.
Still the look in Shego's eyes bothered him. He's been at the self defense force for a long time. It's been 12 years since he was approached by the U.S. government to come aboard because they believed his advanced expertise in robotics would be of great help to the nation. They were right he helped in the construction of Kiryu, the third and most likely strongest incarnation of the Mechagodzilla line. Still he was here when Shego first joined and he's had plenty of run ins before.
Shego was a sarcastic person and most of the time it was hard to tell when she was taking something serious because her talent made her cocky and arrogant. However he's seen the look in her eyes before when she was serious about something but never had he seen her have that look of seriousness about someone else besides her older sister Destiny. Maybe Shego saw some potential in Kim, maybe she considers her a friend, maybe it was both. However his mind was made up. At the end of the day he is her father and his decision is final.
He let out a sigh as he scooted the chair back from his desk. He was gonna need another coffee if he was going to get through this morning. As he stood up a sound started ringing out from the room coming from the corner where a board with all types of equations were written all over it.
"Mind getting that I've been at this all night and I think I'm finally starting to make a break through with the new polymer for the suits." Vivian stated.
"Sure thing." James said as he walked over to the board. He pressed a button and a screen came down. The screen came to life with the symbol of the GJSDF and then a woman's face appeared on screen.
The woman was a redhead with long flowing hair similar to Kim's and she was of similar complexion to her as well. She was in the process of putting her hair in a ponytail. She was wearing a white lab coat of which a magenta shirt could be seen. She stepped back revealing that when was wearing a purple skirt as well that stopped past her knees. The women had beautiful blue eyes and a beautiful smile to match when saw James' face.
"Hiya Hon!" James said as he bid his wife a good morning.
"Anne?" Vivian said, raising her head, finally taking her eyes off her work. When she saw it was indeed she stood up to walk closer to the screen. "Anne, it's been a while. When are you coming down to Texas again? There are some things I want to pick your brain about." Vivian asked.
Vivian enjoyed the conversations she had with Anne. It was refreshing to hear input from someone else who worked in a more biological field. Anne's expertise on anatomy compared with her knowledge in robotics could do wondrous things for the self defense force but Anne showed no interest. In truth the government had proposed for both she and James to join but both declined not wanting to uproot their entire family. It was Anne that convinced James that he should go while she stayed at home with Kim and their two sons Jim and Tim.
"I see you got the roses I sent you." James said with a smile, noticing the giant bouquet of flowers that sat in the background.
"Yes, as well as the other gift you sent me as well." She said as she turned the camera to her work station where it showed a microscope. There was a long cord connected to the microscope to a computer and the screen of the computer were several moving objects which James and Vivian guessed were cells of some sort.
"Sorry about that." James said sheepishly. "I know you didn't want to get roped in all of this but there wasn't anyone else I could think of with the repertoire of knowledge you possess dear."
"While I appreciate the compliment, my expertise is in human anatomy. My animal anatomy isn't that well versed especially when it comes to Kaiju." Anne responded.
"Yes but your knowledge on cellular structure is known worldwide, Doctor." Vivian interjected. "We were hoping you'd be able to decipher it somehow and give us some type of way to combat him."
"Who's flesh sample is this? It shows signs of life and activity even though it's been separated from the body for over seventeen years." Anne said as she looked back at the sample of flesh she had under the microscope.
"It's one of the few samples that was recovered from the Go City disaster." James told his wife.
She looked back at the screen as if she didn't quite catch what he said, or perhaps was hoping she misheard. "Then this is..?" She asked her not finishing the sentence because she wanted to them to confirm for her or at least deconfirm her thoughts.
"Godzilla." James said.

Jacob was walking up to the roof of the self defense force. The situation from earlier was not sitting well with him. He understood Shego's point of view. How she feels about Godzilla is how he feels about Rodan. His soul reason for joining the force, his soul purpose for existing was to bring an end to that oversized bird. However that was before he met Destiny, before she reminded him there was a better way to honor the dead other than revenge. Now he had another reason, he was going to be a father. The thought filled him with so much energy. He wondered if he'd have a son or daughter. If it was a girl he wanted to name the child after his sister Kate. He then remembered Destiny, he was sure she wanted to name the child after her mother if they did have a girl. He didn't want to be rude and just take the name without considering her feelings. After all, she is the one who will have to deliver the baby. He was sure that they would have time to discuss baby names as the pregnancy progressed, he was on a different mission as of right now.
He opened the door that would lead to the roof and was met with the bright light of the morning sun. He squinted and raised his left arm a bit so his hand could shield his eyes from the sun. The action made him wince a bit as the bullet wound he received when Yin deflected his bullet back at him was still sore. He looked around and smiled when he saw who he was looking for. Sitting near the edge was Shego just silently staring off into the void completely oblivious to the world below her. Destiny was right when she told him he could find her here. Shego often came here to clear her mind when things became a bit too much.
He walked over to her, she wasn't even reacting to the sound of him walking up or that maybe she didn't care. As he got closer he could see the stain left by trails of tears which is a sight rarely seen. Shego made it a point to not let anyone see her cry.
"This seat taken?" He asked.
Shego just shrugged, not bothering to look in his direction as she stared out over the field where the soldiers ran across a track. In the center of the track was one of their obstacle courses. Jacob sat down slowly, his shoulder not being the only sore spot on his body. He let out an audible sigh as he sat and let his legs dangle over the edge.
"You here to strip me of my rank now?" She asked. The venom pouring off her words like water out of a glass cup.
"Nah, I just wanted you to know it's not the end of the world." Jacob responded.
Shego scoffed. "Maybe not for you. But this meant everything to me." She told him.
"I know how you feel." He responded. Shego scoffed again letting him know she doubted that he honestly did understand her. "You know all I could think about after Kate died, was how bad of a brother I was." He said.
He reached underneath his shirt pulling out a locket that was attached to a necklace. Normally this chain necklace would be accompanied by a dog tag but he decided not to put it on this morning. Shego watched as he pulled the locket and opened it. It had a picture of a young boy and girl in it. She could guess it was of him and his sister. They looked so happy like nothing in the world could tear them apart.
"It's a brother's job to protect his sister." Jacob continued. "I was consumed by guilt for years. My grades slipped in school, I stopped talking with friends and at night all I could hear is Rodan's roars and my sister's screams." He said staring out over the field as he placed the locket back.
Jacob picked up some debris from the roof and fidgeted with it between his fingers.
"Sometimes I still feel like a failure. Like that every day that thing breathes is an insult to Kate." He said tossing the small piece of debris over the edge. "When I came here nothing else mattered. I wanted to get strong, strong enough to kill it and lay my sister's soul to rest."
Shego just listened to his words, sounding like a reflection of her life. It's how she feels about her parents. Shego couldn't describe it but it's like she could feel their anger, their wrath at being ripped away from their family coursing through her, at least that's the justification she came up with for the those sleepless nights and fits of anger she would get in regards to Godzilla.
" I didn't talk to anyone here. I wasn't trying to make friends or build any type of bonds. The only bond that mattered to me was the one I had with Kate. Little did I know your sister had different plans." Jacob said looking at Shego to see she was paying attention to what he was saying. She said nothing letting him continue.
"You know I wasn't the nicest guy to her." He admitted. "I wanted nothing to do with her and I made it clear so many times but she kept pushing for me and you know why that is?" He asked.
Shego said nothing as she just shrugged. She wasn't there so of course she wouldn't know.
"She said I reminded her of someone close to her. The pain in my eyes she's seen reflected through the eyes of another. She saw in me the same pain she'd seen in you." He said. "She said her whole reason for joining the force was to protect you. She didn't want this life for you. By the time I joined she had already seen many comrades die."
Shego said nothing still but this time it was because she was at a loss for words. She remembered it was a promise they made before Destiny left to join the self defense force that Shego would join her and together they would get justice as she put it.
"Destiny often said she blamed herself for how you turned out." He told her.
Shego craned her eyebrow. " What do you mean by that?"
"She said she tried so hard and so many times to get you to stay home but you were insistent on joining and for the longest time I didn't understand until I first met you. When I saw the conviction in your eyes I knew what Destiny meant. She wanted to protect her little sister just like I did and you wanted to right the wrong done to you just like I do."
"If that's the case then why are you up here with me instead trying to talk to Destiny?" Shego asked him.
"It's because I realized something when I heard that Destiny was carrying my kid." He said. He looked over to see Shego staring at him waiting for his answer.
"There is more to life than just revenge. If you keep going down that path of destruction and expecting people to follow you all you're gonna have left is a pile of corpses to stand on as you stand alone. I can't imagine a life with Destiny can you?" He asked.
"No I can't." She answered. " But I guess she doesn't feel the same. She's moved on without me."
"She didn't move on without you Shego." Jacob said. "She got pregnant, life happens. With or without us. This is a new chapter in her life, our life." He said correcting himself.
"I trained my whole life for this. If she knew we weren't going to be compatible why did she let me go along believing that we would?" Shego asked.
" If I know Destiny, my guess would be she didn't want this outcome. She saw the determination in you, the drive and wanted some good to come of it. She loves you and the last thing she wanted was too hurt you. She more than likely figured you'd find someone compatible with you."
"Pfft like that's gonna happen. There isn't anyone in the force like me." Shego said.
Jacob looked back over the field as he thought of a response to Shego. That's when he saw something that put a smile on his face.
"I wouldn't be so sure." He said.
Shego looked back at him to see him smiling and pointing down towards the field. She saw two people walking across the field cutting across the track. Shego could make out the blonde hair of the boy and the outfit of the girl. She easily guessed the girl was Yori; she was the only one on the force who had a karate gi, which meant the blonde boy was Kim's friend Ron.
"Well I'll be damned." Shego muttered. It was a sight she didn't think she'd ever see. Yori didn't take everyone in the force. It took Yori a while to warm up to Shego and that was back when Shego thought she was mute.
"Anything is possible if given time and a chance." Jacob said.
Shego watched them walk along the field until they were out of sight. Shego thought back to her conversation she had with Destiny. Destiny was telling her about compatibility as well though not in the sense of training but as she looked back at Jacob and thought about how he ended up with Destiny after being paired for compatibility training.
"The person I would become compatible with. Would they end up like you and my sister?" She asked.
Jacob didn't understand the question at first but he could see the visible blush she was trying to hide. He soon caught on to the nature of the question and laughed a bit.
"That's hard to say. Yeah me and Destiny are a perfect match when it comes to piloting a mecha but that doesn't mean we would automatically be relationship material. We became a couple because of time spent together and time invested into one another. I needed her more than I thought and I like to think she needed me too." Jacob said smiling and remembering more fond memories.
Shego thought about that. She had been training for the sole purpose of working side by side with Destiny. How could she be compatible with anyone else? Destiny was the only one she sparred with. Destiny was her goal and now without her sister there what would she have?
Jacob placed his hand on her shoulder before he rubbed her back. "Don't worry you'll figure it out. You always do." He said before he slowly got up.
"Yeah." Shego muttered as he walked back towards the building, not turning his direction as he walked off.
Jacob stopped at the entry of the door and gave Shego one last look. He hoped she'd bounce back from this sooner than later because someone is gonna have to take him and Destiny's place as pilots of Kiryu and he couldn't think of a better pilot than Shego. He walked down the flight of stairs to find Destiny they had a lot of planning to do.
I'm hoping you guys enjoyed the chapter. It honestly feels good to be back writing this story. I hope it was to your liking and I hope you caught some foreshadowing that's gonna take root in future chapters. As always your comments will be appreciated in the reviews and I hope to see you guys as I finish this story. Take care!
