Chapter 19: Rest and Healing
Keira sat just at the mouth of the cave looking at the town far below her, as far as she could tell the whole town was on fire. The sound of gun shots and screams were able to reach all the way up to the caves. Most people were hiding in the back of the cave, but not Keira, she couldn't, she could hear what was going on in the town better than anyone else because she could hear everything that Jak could, and she didn't like what she was hearing. "Dax… be careful out there." She heard Jak say.
"Don't worry about me." Daxter said, "Just stay alive long enough for me to get back."
Keira could hear him rummaging threw his bag but then there was nothing, "Jak…" she called timidly, no answer. "Jak?!" she called again, this time with a bit more fear in her voice. "Jak answer me!" he didn't respond. She could still hear what was going on around him so his ear peace wasn't broken. He was hurt, he need help. Daxter had gone to find some but what if he didn't find anyone or didn't get back in time, Jak need help now. She got up using the cave wall for support, grabbed her crutches and was about to start making her way down when someone much stronger grabbed her, she tried to struggled but that only agitated her cracked ribs, "Let me go!" she ordered.
"No." the pirate responded, "Going down there would be a death sentence for you."
"But he's-"
"Whoever you're trying to get to would most likely want you to stay here." She stopped struggling "You won't be much help to him down there anyways, even if you know where he is." Tears filled Keira's eyes as she dropped her crutches and crumbled to the ground. Hiding her face in her hands as she cried.
Meanwhile Daxter ran through the battle, doing his best not the get stepped on or shot. He mostly ran through building, jumping through windows in order to stay off the streets as much as posable. He was currently running a crossed the upper level of someone's house when the door was blasted off its hinges, two Aeropans charged in one of them saw Daxter and shot a dark blast at him, it barely missed his tail, the other Aeropan ran up the stairs to try to stop him. Daxter quickly changed direction and jumped up onto the rail. The Aeropan tried to grab him but he jumped down landing on the other's face. He tried to grab Daxter but the ottsel leapt for the door as both Aeropans shot dark blast at him. He ran into the street once again doing what he could to not be stepped on.
Missile started to fly at the town several of them hitting in front of him throwing him and everyone around him in all directions, some shrapnel from the blast cut him, fortunately he wasn't hit too badly, he had a deep cut just above his left eye and his right shoulder was bleeding but aside from that he was fine and kept going. He couldn't see out of his left eye do to the blood that was dripping into it and his shoulder stung as he ran but he could move a lot faster when he ran on all fours. Jak was counting on him. He ended up at Barter's bar and ran in screaming for help. People turned to look at the small, hurt animal. One of them, a young man, came over. He reached out to pick him up, but Daxter shoved his hand away, "Not me!" he yelled, "Jak need help."
"We can't go out there now." one of the healers said, "We're already stretched too thin as it is. We can't lose any of the healers. Once the battle ends then we can go find the ones that we might be able to save."
Daxter just started his mouth hanging open, his ears felling back, Jak need help now, but what good would it do him if that help ended up dead before they could reach him. Jak was tough he was going to have to hold on until the battle ended. For the time being he let the healer clean and bange his wounds. Unfortunately, with Daxter being so small the healer had to wrap a bange around the left side Daxter head to cover the gash over his eye and they had to wrap the top of Daxter's chest just to make sure that the gash on his shoulder was covered properly.
Skyheed was forced to retreat not long after and it was only then that the healers were able to search the destroyed town for wounded fighters. Daxter led three of them to where he had left Jak. They found him sitting in a puddle of his own blood, unconscious but fortunately, breathing. One of the healers quickly tied bandages around the gash in Jak's side as the other two look for a sturdy enough board to carry Jak back to the bar.
When they reached the bar Jak was placed on a table where the healers tended to the gash in his side. Once they were done Jak was moved to one of the cots, Daxter just stayed close to his friend. Castaway came over followed by an injured Phoenix. He looked at Jak and then at Daxter, "What happened?" Castaway asked.
Daxter was about to explain when the three of them heard a sharp gasp they looked to see Keira standing there, a hand over her mouth and her eyes wide with shock. She went to Jak's side and breathe a sigh of relief when she realized he was breathing. She looked at the three males that were just standing there, "What happened?" she demanded.
"Some Aeropan got a lucky shot." Daxter explained, "Jak killed him but not before he got slashed."
She looked right at Daxter and gasped again, "Daxter what happened to you?"
"I went to find help, got caught up in the fight." He shrugged, "No big deal."
Phoenix crossed his arms, "With the way you two look I got off easy, and I fought Skyheed."
"Wait what?!" Daxter asked, Keira just looked at the pirate with her mouth open. "Is that why they pulled back?" Daxter asked.
"More or less. I fought him hand to hand… or knife to claw as it was." He said looking at his bandaged arm.
Daxter and Keira just stared at him, "Okay," Daxter said pointed at him, "I want to hear that story."
Phoenix began to recount his fight with Skyheed but Keira's attention had fallen back on Jak. She ran her hand though his hair trying not to cry. She felt a hand on her shoulder and looked to see Castaway, he gave her a kind smile, "He's going to be alright." He told her, "I mean, look at you. You got caught in an explosion and yet here you are. Recovering, slowly but still." They looked back at Jak, "He just lost a bit of blood; some rest and he'll be fine." Keira weakly smiled, grateful for what the older sage had said.
The day wore on people came in and out of the bar, Phoenix had left with a group who were taking it upon themselves to find and take care of thoughts that had fallen that include the Aeropans. Castaway had simply left, and no one was sure where he went. Keira stayed by Jak's side not wanting to leave and wishing that her powers were stronger. Daxter on the other hand was the only one sitting at the bar. Barter was allowing the healers to use his stoke of alcoholic beverages as a stand in for disinfectant. Ture most of the drinks he had were not the best chose for a substitute but it was all he had to offer and when supplies started running low the healers took the drinks. So the drinks were free gain and Daxter was taking advantage of that, evident by the green bottle that sat on the bar, loosely in his hand. He took a sip and had laid his head on the bar. There was someone behind him, starting at the odd sight; he didn't know who it was, and he didn't care. She finally walked up to him and asked, "What do you think you're doing!?" her tone sounded like a mother who found her child stealing cookies right before dinner, "We need everything we can get to help these people and that includes that beer you're drinking."
Daxter didn't look at her, "Laity, ring now I need this." He took another, much larger gup of the drink, "And frankly I'm sure there are plenty of people here who need your attention more than I do, so leave me alone." The woman didn't say anything, but from the way she grabbed one of bottle off the bar Daxter could tell that she was not happy with him, not that he cared. She got what she needed and left and now Daxter chose to look at her and the only thing that stood out to him as she walked to the door of the bar was her long blond-green hair that made her look a lot like… he looked back at the bottle he had been drinking out of for a long moment before pushing it away.
As the night crept on the healers began to kick visitors out so the people could rest. However Keira refused to leave, "Please, just let me stay with him."
The healer looked at her, "I'm sorry but you need to leave." He told her.
"Look just let her stay." Daxter demanded, "it's not like she's bothering anyone."
"Please." Keira begged.
The healer looked at the woman who, although she hadn't been in the fight looked as if she had. He sighed, "Very well. But if you start bother the others you out of here." Keira nodded and the healer walked away.
Both Keira and Daxter looked back at Jak. "You know," Daxter said with a sigh, "All things considered, sleeping is probably doing him some good." Keira glared at him. Daxter looked at her, "I'm just saying."
"You're not helping." She told him.
Daxter looked back at his unchurches friend, "Well, neater are you."
Keira's eyes widened and her mouth fell open, "What am I supposed to do?" she asked, in a harsh whisper.
Daxter looked at her, "You're working on being the green sage aren't you? Green eco is known for healing. You can heal him."
"Don't you think if I could I would have already done that? Not just on him but myself." She looked at Jak and then closed her eyes, "I'm just not strong enough. I'm not like him, and I'm not like my father."
"Who said you were?" Daxter asked. Keira looked at him. He shook his head and turned to her, "Look Keira, I've known you, Jak and old greeny for most of my life and growing up I knew your father as the sage. And I know he had that power longer than that because it was thanks to Jak and I that he was able to unlock thoughts powers in the first place. He's had years to practice and perfect that power, you're just starting. Hell, do you even remember what Jak was like after he got out of prison? He had no control over his dark power. For crying out loud he didn't even really understand what happened to him; none of us did. Even with what little help the Precursors gave him he still had to learn how to really use his powers on his own. So of cores you're not as strong as ether of them, this is new to you, you need practice." He looked at all the injured in the bar, "And I can't think of a better opportunity then right now."
Keira stared at Daxter, taking in everything he said before her eyes fell back onto Jak and sighed, "Your right Daxter, they both have had a lot of time to work with their powers, time that I've never had. Maybe if my father had told me sooner, maybe if he had worked with me when I was little instead of sending me away to study with the blue sage maybe then I would be able to do something now to help Jak, you and all of these people, but I found out I had this power a couple months ago and I still can't do anything with it." She laughed a little, "And do you remember when we were kids? How Jak could just fide eco in it's raw state and use it, he didn't need to try to understand it." her voice was starting to brake from frustration, "All he had to do was touch it and it did whatever it was supposed to do."
Daxter sat their thinking, Keira was right when they lived in Sandover if Jak need to be a little stronger he'd find red eco, if he need to be quicker, all he need was a blue eco charge and if he need to heal he just need some green eco. He could use eco in its raw state. This gave Daxter an idea. He jumped down from where he was and started digging in Jak's bag when he didn't find what he was looking for he headed for the door, "I'll be right back." He said before running out. Keira watched him go, not knowing what he was up to.
She looked back at Jak, wishing that he would wake up. She sighed, "You are not allowed to fuss over my injuries anymore." she whispered. There was really nothing she could but wait for him to wake up. She looked around the room, she was the only one still awake. It was late, but she didn't want to sleep, she ran a hand threw his hair, before softly kissing his cheek. She rested her head on her arms on the side of Jak's bed and drifted off to sleep.
Not long after she was woken by Daxter's shocked voice, "Jak, your awake!" he yelled. Keira instantly looked at him as he rolled his eyes at his friend. He had pushed himself up so he was sitting, when had he woken up?
"Why don't you yell a bit louder Daxter and wake everyone else up?" Jak said as the ottsel jumped up. "And are you going to tell me what happened to you?"
"Jak…" Keira whispered getting his attention.
He looked at her shocked/worried face. He ran his hand softly over her cheek, "I'm okay." He told her as she got up and wrapped her arms around his neck. He hugged her back, "I'm okay." He repeated.
She smiled, "I know." She pulled away from him, "But, I am still mad you."
Both Jak and Daxter looked at her with confusion, "… Why?" Jak asked.
"You promised me that you would be carful, that you'd be alright."
"I am alright."
Keira crossed her arms, "Yes, you seem completely fine. Aside from the fact that you got hurt bad enough that you've been unchurches for the last few hours."
Jak shrugged, "This isn't the first time I've been knocked out." Both Keira and Daxter gave him annoyed looks, "What?" Jak asked, knowing exactly what he'd just said.
Keira sighed, shaking her head before turning her attention to Daxter, "Where did you run off to anyways?" she asked.
"Oh! Right." Daxter jumped off the table and picked up a green crystal he jumped back up and handed it to Keira. She just looked at it, "I thought maybe you could pull the eco out of it and heal him."
"I don't know if I can do that." Keira stated.
Jak smiled at her, "You won't know unless you try."
Keira looked around the room, if she could do this then she could help all of these people. She looked at the crystal, she could feel the energy inside it. normally when eco became a crystal it becomes solid all the way through but to Keira it felt like the crystal was only solid on the outside, she could have sown that inside it the energy was floating freely. She looked at Jak, "How do you get these to grow exactly?"
"Um… I just put more eco into the crystal. How big it gets is based on how much I put into it." that was the best way he could explain it. In realty he wasn't completely sure how it worked.
Keira thought for a moment, "I see. That might explain it."
"Explain what?" Daxter asked.
"Jak when you hold one of these, does it feel sloid to you? Or does it feel like the eco just floating in it?"
"I guess it feel a bit like it's floating, why?"
"Because I think the reason why you can make these grow is because; when you put more eco into them the crystal needs to expand in order to hold it and because it was never met hold much more than this, it sharers."
Daxter looked at the crystal, "So if Jak can put eco into it then what do you think the chasers are that you could pull eco out of it?"
Keira sighed, "I don't know." She looked at Jak, "But I'm going to try." She looked down at the crystal, shut her eyes and exhaled, rather than trying to pull the eco out of the crystal she allowed it to freely flow into her, something that seemed to work. Both Jak and Daxter just stared as the crystal shrunk, Daxter mouth hanging as Keira's hands began to glow green the energy spread up to her elbows, but she wouldn't allow it to spread anymore threw her. This caused her pain; that much raw eco contained in her arms burned. The crystal completely disappeared as the last of the eco flowed into her. She opened her bright green eyes and looked at her growing arms, "Jak, what do I do?" she asked, she was shaking, there was a lot more eco in that crystal then she thought, and it was more then what she was use to.
Jak pulled her closer to him in order to calm her down However once her hands touched him the eco began to flow from her into him, he didn't fight it and unlike Keira he allowed to heal him. Keira stopped shaking as her arms stopped glowing. She looked up at Jak who kissed her forehead, "Are you okay?" he asked.
Keira nodded, "I think so, are you?"
Jak smiled and nodded, "Yeah, I'm fine."
"Please tell me you're not just saying that." Daxter said shaking his head.
Jak looked at him, "Really I'm fine." He smirked, "It was just a little scratch."
"No it wasn't!" Daxter practically yelled, "You were pasted out, in a pool of your own blood when I got back to you! That's not what I'd call a 'little scratch'!"
"Daxter, be quiet." Keira whispered, "You're going to wake everyone up."
"Ya think?!" a woman said angrily from behind them. She looked at Jak, "Will you shut that rat up!" she demanded.
Jak got up, "come on." he told his two friends, "Let's get out here."
Keira looked up at him as he put his shirt on, "Jak, I don't think you should be getting up yet."
"He's fine." Daxter told her. He looked up at Jak, "The eco healed ya, right?" Jak nodded as he helped Keira up and grabbed her crutches.
She took them as Daxter jumped up on Jak's shoulder. They left the bar and found a lot of injured people sleeping just outside. Keira looked around at all of them, "Jak," he looked at her, "If we find more crystals, do you think we can heal everyone."
Jak looked at the people who were forced to sleep outside, and then he smiled at Keira, "that might work, but you need to learn how to do that first." He said. Keira smiled. Jak looked at Daxter, "Where did you find that crystal?"
"Down the rode a little ways." Daxter said, pointing, "It's pretty bad down there, Skyheed's soldiers did a number on this place."
They walked and saw the damage, both Jak and Daxter not seeming to pay it much mind, but Keira just started at all the damage. Buildings lay half demolished, gaping holes in their sides, some had been reduced to just piles of rubble and broken wood, smoke rose from the ground were fires had ether burned themselves out or had been recently extinguished. There were blood stains everywhere, on the ground and walls. Fortunately, most of the corpses had been moved there was still one or two here and there that Keira tried not to look at. She looked up at Jak and Daxter who still just seemed unfazed by all of this, "How do you do that?" she asked.
They looked at her, "Do what?" Daxter asked.
"Ignore all this." She stated, "The way you two act it's like you can't even see it."
Jak shook his head, "Of course we can see it."
"We were here watching it all fall apart." Daxter added, "The fact is this is the close thing to peace that you can get right after something like that." The ottsel stated, looking around.
Jak nodded, "Not only that, but Daxter and I are just use to this." He looked around, "Beside I think Haven was worse."
Keira looked back at what was left of the town, "Well after all this, I think you're going to get what you wanted Jak." They walked in silence after that.
They found some crystal near the edge of town, any bodies that might have been there had already been moved. Jak and Daxter started picking up the crystals, Keira however was looking out the mouth of the cave, the sky was clear, she could see every gleaming stare, there was no moon tonight and looking out at horizon she couldn't tell where the sky ended and were the water below started. As she looked, she thought about how she had 'healed' Jak. Pulling the eco out of the crystal was easy but holing that energy in her was a bit scary and painful. She had felt as if her arms were burring and the fact that she hadn't really know what to do with it just made it worse. She wanted to help but how could she if she didn't know what she was doing.
Jak touched her shoulder and she looked at him, she leaned on him, and he put an arm around her, "Are you okay?" he asked.
She nodded, "Yeah, I'm fine. You?" he nodded.
"You know if you pull the eco out of the crystal then you might be able to heal yourself."
"I don't think so." She stated.
"Well, I don't mean that it will fix your leg or even your ribs, but you could heal all of your bruises."
Keira shook her head, "Jak I didn't even know what I was doing early, and really it kinda hurt when I had all that eco."
"I'm not surprise. You were trying to fight it. You can't be afraid of this, it's a part of you. Once you stop fighting it, it will get easier. Trust me."
He took one of her banged hands and undid the rapping. Keira just let him, "What are you doing?" she asked.
"Showing you something." he took the banged off and looked at the cut on her palm, it was deep, and it looked painful, "How are you even able to hold anything?" he asked confused.
Keira shrugged, "It only stings a little… I just ignore it."
Jak shook his head and softly placed a crystal in her hand then he pushed her fingers over it, "I want you to take the eco out of this crystal and don't fight it, don't try to contain it, just except it."
"But-"
"Keira, trust me." Keira closed her eyes and took a deep breath. As she ex-haled, she felt the eco flow into her. Her hand was now glowing green and as the energy traveled up her arm so did the glow. It scared her and as a reflex she kept it from going past her elbow. Her arm started to shake, and she gasped as her arm began to sting. Jak put a hand on her shoulder, "Don't fight it, Keira." She looked into his reassuring blue eyes. She let out a sigh letting the eco traveled up her arm, the glow took over her whole body. Jak just stared into her eyes as her pules disappeared behind a lighter green glow. It didn't burn, it didn't even hurt. The crystal diapered as did the glow that had encased her whole body, Jak took her hand and she looked at it, she watched as the cut stared to heal and then it was just gone. Keira's eyes went back to normal as she held her own hand running her thumb over her palm. Jak smiled, "I told you, you could do it."
She smiled at him and kissed his cheek, "Okay so I was able to heal myself and help you. But how are we going to help everyone else. And what about the ones with broken bones?"
Jak shook his head, "There's nothing we can do about them and even with us healing the ones we can everyone's still going to need time to rest." Jak looked back over the water, "At the very least that will give us time to convince those who are able, to fight and come up with a plan of attack." Keira just started up at him. "What?" he asked, looked at her.
She smiled and shook her head, "Nothing." She leaned on him. Daxter had been standing in the background watching the whole time and knew what Keira had been smiling about. Jak might not want to amid it, but he was a leader and he had been proving that all day.
They continued to gather crystals until they had nearly filled Jak's bag. Keira looked at it, "Do you think that will be enough?" she asked.
"It's more then enough," Jak said as he pulled his bag over his shoulder.
Daxter jumped up onto his spot, "Well then let's start at the clinic." Unfortunately, do the lateness of the hour they weren't allowed in, "Ah come on," Daxter said to the very old volunteer that was standing at the door, "We're trying to help."
"If you want to help then you will let these people sleep." She said pointing a boney finger at him.
"Look lady, these two can heal these people. One of them the green sage for crying out loud." Keira blushed.
"I don't care what kind of status any of you have. What these people need is a good night's sleep, not random strangers running around, waking everyone up."
"He's a prince." Daxter stated, pointing at Jak, who looked up and shook his head. she slammed the door. Daxter turned, shaking his head, "Unbelievable" they went to the bar but found the same problem.
"I guess we'll just have to wait until morning." Keira said. As they started back down the road.
"That's not that far off." Jak said, "Let's go to the Phantom Blade and get some sleep.
They continued down the road. They were walked past a bench, and saw someone sleeping on it, Keira walked a bit closer and found it was Phoenix; he was snoring, an empty bottle in his hand. Keira nudged him and he woke with a start, "I didn't do it!" he exclaimed half awake.
"Phoenix?" Keira asked.
"Keira? What are doing here, I thought you'd be with…" his eyes found Jak, "Oh, you're awake, and standing." He said, stretching. "Didn't thing you would be with that gash in your side." He added as he cracked his neck. Jak shrugged.
"Phoenix, why were you sleeping on a bench?" Keira asked.
"Because it was here, and I wanted to sleep." He told her, "What time is it?" The three friends looked at each other, they had no idea. Phoenix shrugged, "No matter." He looked at Jak, "How are you doing?" he asked as they started to walk down the road.
"Fine." He smiled at Keira.
It was just an hour before sunrise by the time they got to the ship. Daxter had fallen off Jak's shoulder do to the fact he fell asleep as they were walking so Jak was now carrying him in one arm, he had tried putting him in his bag but Keira wouldn't let him. When they got back to the ship Jak helped Keira out of the hellcat and left Daxter curled up in the sit. There were a lot more hammocks tied up then normal. Phoenix didn't bother to look for an empty one and instead just sat in a corner and almost immediately fell asleep. Jak opened the door for Keira to what had become her and do her instated, his room. Keira sat on the bed and looked at her healed hand, she repeatedly ran her thumb over where just little while ago, there had been a deep cut. She looked at her other hand and slowly started to take the banges off. To her amazement the cut she had expected to be there was gone. She tore the bange off her cheek and felt it, her skin was smooth. She continued to remover the banges, all of the cuts and gashes that had covered her body for the last two weeks were gone. There was no sign that she had been hurt… well unless you counted her cracked ribs and broken leg. But there was no trace of anything, not even a scar. She smiled at Jak as he sat next to her on the other side of the bed, he smiled back as they laid down next to each other. They didn't say anything as Keira drifted off to sleep.
Jak just watched her as she slept, he had himself propped up on his arm and gently ran his hand threw her hair, taking care not to wake her. He was happy she was there next to him; this moment was the way life should be, calm, peaceful, he wanted her to stay by his side always; she was the reason he fought, she was the reason he was doing any of this. He didn't care if the world survived or if it blew up. He had spent the last five years of his life, fighting for people who didn't care if he lived or died, he had spent the last five years putting his own life on the line for people who thought him a monster, a daemon, a freak. After all that time of save an ungrateful world why should he care? And the fact was that he didn't. He couldn't care less about what could happen to Haven, he had no doubt in his mind that the people of Spargus would find their own way to survive regardless of whether he succeed or not and he had no attachment to Krass City or anywhere else in the world. But for him, Keira's life was more important than anything else so he fought to protect her and the future they would have. A future that he had almost lost. He kissed her now healed cheek before finally laying down and letting himself fall asleep, grateful for the fact that they were still alive, that they still had a future.
Jak woke up thinking that he couldn't have been sleeping long, he yawned, and looked next to him expecting to see Keira but she wasn't there, "Keira?" he called, getting up and going to look for her. He found her in the gaily with Daxter, who had removed the banges around his head and chest. He was missing a bit of fur above his left eye and on his shoulder. It was going to take time to grow back but the pink skin was smooth and new. Phoenix and the pirates that the night before had been sleeping in hammocks were also there looking much better then they had just a few hours ago and it wasn't hard for Jak to know why.
Keira saw him and smiled, "Jak, you're finally up." She said as he walked over to her, "I hope you don't mind; I took your bag."
"Did you heal all these people?" he asked wanting to hear her say what he already knew.
"Yes, I did." She stated, clearly proud of herself, "That's why I took your bag, I needed the crystal."
"You figured it out on your own?" he asked, "That's great."
Keira brushed a strand of hair out of her face, "Well, I'm not sure. I just… kind of did…"
"What felt right." Jak finished.
Keira looked at him, "Yes."
Jak kissed her forehead as Phoenix cleared his throat to get their attention, "Sorry to break up the moment but, there's a lot of people who could use your help Keira."
Daxter jumped onto Jak's shoulder, "Yeah seeing as it's pass noon, we're most likely not to get thrown out of the clink again."
Jak looked at Daxter then glanced at Keira before shaking his head and looking at Phoenix, "While we're in town you and Castaway should start looking for a way into Aropa. We can start making a plan from there."
Phoenix nodded, "Right, but I'm not sure how much help he'll be. He hasn't been anywhere near Aropa in years."
"He still might know something, and right now we can use all the help we can get." Jak said as he picked up Keira's crutches and handed them to her, grabbing his bag and led her to the hanger.
They took off in the Hellcat, Jak looked at Keira, "How do you feel?"
Keira looked at him, "I'm fine." Jak looked at her with a raised brow, Keira rolled her eyes, "I'm a little lightheaded but a sided from that I'm alright."
"So, why didn't one of you wake me up?"
"I wanted to." Daxter said, "But Keira wouldn't let me."
Keira shrugged, "You never sleep in and after yesterday I thought it would be nice if you did."
Jak shook his head, "I appreciate that Keira but, we're not on vacation. We have to get the core back from Skyheed as soon as we can."
"I know." Keira stated, "But I didn't see anything wrong with letting you sleep in. Besides it gave me time to heal the people on the Phantom Blade." They laded
"Yeah, when did you figured out how do that?" Daxter asked.
"I told you, I didn't really figure it out. I just did what felt right." She told him as he jumped onto Jak's shoulder.
She handed Jak her crutches and then let him help her out. They started down the road, people were cleaning up and even stating to rebuild. Every so often they saw people ether in small groups or alone just quietly off to the side, as they walked past Jak thought he could see some of them whipping away tears.
Keira looked up at him, "Do you really think people will be willing to fight after this?"
Daxter looked at her, "They got the Aeropan to retreat, didn't they?"
"But they were defending their home."
Jak shook his head, "I don't think we'll get as many people as I hoped but we can make do with what we are lucky enough to get."
They got to the clink and after about half an hour Keira felt ready to collapse. She sat on the step that led inside and looked out at the people that had to sleep outside because there just wasn't enough room. In true there wasn't really much that Keira could do, she was able to heal damage to the skin and she had found that to some extent she could heal internal damage, so the ones that had burns and or had been shot she was able to help but that was the most she could do, she couldn't heal broken bones if she could she would have delt with her own ribs and leg so unless Jak suddenly was able to use his light powers again there would be a lot of people that they could do nothing for. She smiled as she saw Jak and Daxter talking to some of the people that had been held. Daxter jumped off Jak's shoulder and walked over to her, "You okay? Ya look a bit pale."
Keira shrugged, "I'm fine, I just needed a break." They looked back over at Jak "I'm guessing things are going well."
"Yeah, almost everyone so far has agreed to help us."
Keira sighed putting her elbow on her knee and her cheek in her hand, "Why can't we find a better way?" Daxter looked at her, "I mean I feel like healing them is pointless when we're just going to send them into battle."
"You really kept yourself as far from the war as you could; didn't you?"
Keira glared at him, "Why am I the only one who see that the Metal-head war was different. They couldn't be reasoned with. But-"
"You really think we can reason with someone like Skyheed? Keira you've heard the things he's done, he's enslaved people, he turned his whole city into dark soldiers, probably against their will! For crying out loud, he admitted to murdering children and he doesn't even fell remorse for it! Do you really think someone like that can be reason with?!" Daxter yelled.
"Daxter that's just it, Skyheed is the problem. Do you really think his whole city deserves to pay for what's he's done?"
"Did all these people deserve what happened to them? All the people who died yesterday, did they deserve that?"
"No." Keira stated shaking her head, "But-"
"And what do you think will happen if the people here don't strike back?" Daxter asked, Keira didn't say anything, "Skyheed will come back and will ether take over this place or destroy it."
Keira sighed as she struggled to get back up, "I should get back to work." She said annoyed, was she really the only one who could see how wrong this was?
