It had been awhile since the tragic events with Kitty Softpaws. The feline was rushed to the village doctor. It took awhile, but Kitty woke up and found herself in the village doctor's. She was confused and scared. All confusion was laid to rest whenever the doctor finally turned around in his chair.
"You're finally awake Kitty, that's good to see. I'm afraid I have some bad news though" He spoke
"What is it?" Kitty replied softly
"Kitty Softpaws, you are on your last life" The doctor replied, bringing a candle up and blowing it out
There was silence, then there was some laughter from Kitty. She thought he was joking
"That's a good one, great joke doc" Kitty said
The doctor's stern look made Kitty uneasy, maybe he wasn't joking, maybe he was serious. Kitty looked shown at the ground, avoiding eye contact with the doctor
"This is no joke. How many other times have you died?" He asked
"Well, there was the one with the bulls, the bad poker game, the falling of the ledge, getting burned, the cannon, the large weight, the allergy to shellfish and the giant today. That must be….8" Kitty said, realizing the truth
Kitty was in disbelief. How could her, the legendary Kitty Softpaws be on her last life? She almost broke down into tears when the doctor spoke again
"I know it's hard but it's maybe it's time you retired from being a fearless hero" He suggested
He then wrote on a small card. Kitty became curious, wondering what the doctor wanted her to do. He then gave her the card. It read "Mama Luna's Cat Rescue" at the top of it. The doctor drew an arrow with "go here" under it
"Mana Luna will look after you. She is always looking for a new lap cat" The doctor claim
This insulted Kitty, she was nobody's lap cat and it was insulting for anyone to think that. She drowned her sorrows with milk at the village bar. She was alone, no one to talk to. There was a sudden breeze, rocking the light back and forth slightly. Something seemed off. Then, a cloaked figure appeared beside her.
"Well, well, well. If it isn't Kitty Softpaws (chuckles) in, the, flesh" The figure said
The atmosphere grew tense and kitty grew nervous. It took a lot to make that happen but she was on her last life so it was expected.
"Um…hello?" Kitty said nervously
"There's the famous feline, the one who laughs in the face of death, right? Well, I don't see you laughing now.." The figure snarled
Kitty grew more nervous and the atmosphere grew even more tense with every word spoken
"Um, ok? Are you a fan or something?" Kitty asked
"Oh, I am, I've been following you around. I wanted your autograph" The figure said
He pulled out a wanted poster of Kitty and placed it on the bar
"Just sign right there…" The figure snarled, tapping repeatedly on the word "dead"
"Ok, enough of the act. I know you're a bounty hunter and you will find your reward will not come easy" Kitty remarked
The figure removed his hood, revealing a silvery-white wolf with an elongated snout, a gray "mask" marking on his face, sharp teeth, and black eyes with bright red sclera which would glow when he was excited
"I was hoping you would say that but I must warn you, everyone says they'll be the one to defeat me…but no one has escaped me yet…" The wolf snarled
"Alright, let's get this over with, fear me, if you…" Kitty said before having her sword launched out of her hand
Her sword was launched out of her hand, landing in an empty barrel. She claimed off her seat and backed away from the wolf and reclaimed her sword
"Let's try that again" She said
She ran towards the wolf, hoping to land a blow but as she took a swing at him with the sword, the figure had moved to a different place. She tried again, taking another swing but it just wasn't enough. She then took multiple, with the figure calling her attacks things like "sloppy" and "slow" until he eventually caught her sword with his dual sickles, catching the feline off guard. She tried to keep her ground but she was losing.
She was launched onto the floor by the wolf. She landed on her feet, she then jumped up to a chair then onto the light. She spun around a few times until she had the momentum to launch herself to the wolf while spinning in the air. She was the caught by the neck by the wolf who brought Kitty closer to him
"You're not living up to the legend…gato" The wolf whispered
He then slammed Kitty onto the bar and dragged her across it. He then threw her into a chair, hurting the legend more. The wolf took a swing at Kitty but she was able to evade the attack, leaving the chair to be the casualty. She climbed onto a table but it fell back, only to be cut in half by the wolf. Kitty was fighting a losing battle and she knew that. The wolf took more swings at her but she was able to block them with her sword. The wolf took another swing and it almost hit her. She fell back, her sword lying beside her. Fear surged through her as she felt something run down her face, she reached up and rubbed it with her paw, it was blood. More fear surged through and her fur was beginning to stand on end.
The wolf took a deep breath, relishing in the fear of Kitty and her current state
"I just love the smell of fear!" The wolf snarled, dragging his dual sickles on the ground
The wolf slowly approached Kitty, his sickles dragging on the stone floor. Sparks flew from his weapons. As he got closer, memories returned to Kitty's mind, she remembered how she got here, the people she met and most of all, she remembered Puss. Her breath became rapid and deep.
"What's the matter? Lives flashing before your eyes?" The wolf asked sarcastically
The wolf kicked Kitty's sword towards her. She didn't say anything. The fear was too much and she feared for her last life
"Pick it up" The wolf said
Kitty froze, not daring to move
"Pick. It. Up" The wolf snarled
The fear took over and Kitty ran from the wolf, running into the bar's bathroom. The wolf whistled as it approached. Kitty locked the door and looked around for a solution on how to escape when she looked down and saw the wolf's shadow get increasingly bigger and bigger. Without saying a word, the wolf slashed the lock of the door, causing it to swing open. He looked around and couldn't see the feline.
"Corre, corre, gatito" The wolf snarled
She had escaped using the toilet, being pushed out into marshy water. She got out and ran and ran. She didn't look back, she kept going, fearing that the wolf would follow her
Maybe it's time she tried the retirement life after all…
A chapter of hopefully good proportions! I hope you all enjoyed it and if you are reading this when it comes out and you celebrate Cinco de Mayo, happy Cinco de Mayo!
