Teen Titans Beyond
Hocus Pocus
It was a bright and sunny day in Jump City and all seemed calm and peaceful, especially at Titans Tower. All was quiet in the tower, there was not a single sound anywhere in any of the rooms of the headquarters. Suddenly a puff of smoke appeared in the main room of the tower and a young teenage boy appeared from it. He had white skin with short black hair and he was roughly the same height as Robin with a similar build. The boy was sharply dressed as he wore long black pants with matching shoes, he wore a tuxedo consisting of a black coat, white shirt, and blue bowtie. He also wore a black top hat, white gloves, and he held a magic wand in his left hand, giving him the appearance of a magician.
He was floating above the floor as he cockily said, "Hello Titans! Meet your newest recruit, the amazing Zatara!"
He waved his wand and magically made a neon sign appear above him displaying his name and the sound of people cheering could be heard.
Zatara had his eyes closed as he waved his wand with a conceited smile on his face and said, "You may have heard of me and my amazing performances. I am the greatest young magician in the world and one of the best crime fighters in the world! None ae a match for me and my amazing tricks! And that's why I've come. I want to be a Titan like the rest of you. With magic and flare you'll be the greatest heroes in the world! What do you say?"
While he said all of this he used his wand to show illusions showing him performing for people, fighting bad guys, and making people smile. He also made fireworks appear and explode with beautiful colors and made birds fly around him. When he was finished he opened his eyes and his conceited smile vanished as he noticed there was on one around.
He was surprised as he said, "Hello? Anyone home?"
He snapped his fingers and made everything he created magically vanish in a puff of smoke and then floated forward.
He shrugged his shoulders as he glanced up in thought and then smiled excitedly as he said, "Looks like the Titans aren't home right now. Oh well, they'll be back sooner or later. In the meantime I think I'll explore this awesome place."
Zatara then flew through halls as he explored Titans Tower in excitement and amazement as he laughed happily. He found the game room before finding the gym, then he moved to the silo where he stared at the T-Ship in awe. He started exploring the Titans bedrooms, he was not impressed with Beast Boy or Starfire's rooms.
He saw how messy Beast Boy's room was and said, "This must be Beast Boy's room, it looks like an animal lives here."
He was not amused as he turned and flew away after closing the door, but then he discovered Robin's room. He walked in and waved his wand to open Robin's closet where he found his multiple uniforms hanging.
Zatara immediately got interested as he said, "Ooh, so this is where the Boy Wonder hangs his cape, or capes."
He left and soon found Cyborg's room as he looked at the computers and hardware as he said, "This is definitely Cyborg's room."
After more searching, he entered Raven's room and looked around and said, "Whoa! This has to be Raven's room. It's creepy. I like it!"
He waved his wand and made some of her books float to him and open up as he started reading them.
He was amazed as he read a few lines from each and excitedly said, "The Book of Azar! The Tome of Sorcery! She's got a nose for magic!"
He waved his wand again and made the books float back to the shelves they came from and then he found a crystal ball on Raven's dresser.
He put his wand down, picked up the ball, and stared at it before looking around her room in excitement while he said, "This place has everything! I love it!"
He accidentally dropped the crystal ball and it shattered to pieces when it hit the floor, prompting Zatara to scream in terror.
He looked around nervously before looking down at the crystal ball and hopefully said, "I'm sure that's replaceable."
He quickly flew off, hoping to avoid breaking anything else or do anything that might get him in trouble with the Titans when they returned.

It was early in the afternoon when the Titans started returning home; Raven appeared in the entryway as she came out of the floor in a field of her black magic.
She looked around as she raised her hand and shouted, "Guys, I'm back. Hello?"
Suddenly the front door opened behind her and she turned to see Robin and Starfire walk in holding hands.
Robin waved his other hand as he said, "Hey Raven."
Starfire had a big grin on her face as she happily said, "Greetings Raven! Robin had the most glorious day in the park!"
Raven looked at them with a blank expression as she curiously said, "That's great. Have either of you seen Cyborg or Beast Boy?"
Robin was surprised as he curiously said, "They're not here?"
Suddenly they heard Beast Boy happily say, "Hey dudes!"
He and Cyborg walked in as they laughed happily; Cyborg was carrying a large bucket of popcorn while Beast Boy had a soda in his hand.
Raven eyed them as she curiously said, "You went out too?"
Beast Boy smiled as he put his arm around Cyborg and happily said, "Yeah! We just saw the coolest movie ever!"
Cyborg agreed as he happily said, "Yeah man! It had the perfect combo of sci-fi and comedy all wrapped up in two-hour premiere!"
Raven looked at all four of her friends as she seriously said, "You shouldn't leave the Tower unprotected for too long. Someone could've attacked it while we were away."
Beast Boy looked at Raven and shrewdly said, "And where were you Raven?"
She glared at him as she said, "I told you I was going to the library to get some reading done in peace and quiet."
Beast Boy looked up as he scratched his chin while a flat line appeared over his head as he said, "I don't remember that."
Raven was annoyed as she sarcastically said, "Imagine that."
She turned around and walked further into the room and the others followed her as the door closed behind them. A few minutes later they were on the level of the Tower where their rooms were as they walked through the hallway.
While they were walking Raven spoke in a serious tone as she said, "We can't leave the Tower unsecured for such a long time. There are a ton of bad guys who would love to attack us."
Robin looked at the others as he honestly admitted, "Raven has a point guys. It wouldn't be the first time that happened."
Cyborg ate some popcorn and talked with his mouth full as he arrogantly said, "Relax ya'll. With my security system nobody could get in here without the authorization. If anyone were here I'd know about it."
Raven turned her body as she said, "Well I still think we should do a better job timing when we leave to hang out. I'm going in my room to meditate."
She calmly walked into her room while the others watched her and prepared to go about their business.
Suddenly the entire hallway shook as Raven furiously yelled, "BEAST BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOY!"
While she shouted his name Beast Boy screamed in fear as he dropped his soda and hid behind Cyborg, and Robin and Starfire hurried off to their bedrooms.
Cyborg looked down at Beast Boy with an annoyed expression as he asked, "What'd you do this time?"
Beast Boy poked his head out from behind Cyborg as he nervously said, "I don't even know, okay?"
Raven stormed out of her room and glared daggers at Beast Boy as she angrily said, "You were in my room while I was away!"
Beast Boy was shocked as he said, "What? Know I wasn't."
Raven pointed her left finger at him as she angrily said, "Yes you were! Don't deny it! You went into my room and broke my crystal ball!"
Beast Boy looked offended as he stepped out from behind Cyborg and pointed his thumb at him as he said, "I didn't break anything! Today. I wasn't in your room AND I've got an alibi! I was at the movie with Cyborg!"
Cyborg vouched for Beast Boy as he held his right hand out to refer to him as he honestly said, "It's true Raven. BB was with me all day."
Raven's expression softened as she curiously said, "But if you didn't then who did?"
Suddenly they all heard Robin shout, "Guys!"
Starfire returned and curiously said, "Robin?"
Robin joined the others as he seriously said, "Someone's been in my stuff. I think we have an intruder in the Tower."
Cyborg was shocked as he exclaimed, "Say what?!"
Starfire floated in the air as she curiously asked, "But who would invade our home only to search through our personal belongings?"
She was scared as a puff of smoke appeared behind her and from it Zatara appeared as he said, "That would be me!"
Cyborg was startled as he dropped his popcorn and the Titans all looked at Zatara as he levitated in front of them.
He smiled politely as he said, "Hello Titans. It's so nice to finally meet you."
Beast Boy was confused as he asked, "Who's this guy?"
Zatara landed in front of them and shut his eyes with an arrogant smile as he took his hat off and bowed while saying, "Zatara: the greatest boy magician at your service."
Robin folded his arms as he said, "I've heard of him. He's a young magician with magical powers and a high opinion of himself."
Zatara put his hat back on and waved his wand, making some small lights sparkle while he said, "Well I am very powerful and magical."
Raven was annoyed while Starfire curiously said, "So Zatara, you are the intruder we have been pondering?"
Zatara moved his hands around as he calmly explained, "Yeah. Sorry for just barging in like this. I came here earlier but you weren't here. So I've been waiting for you all to get back while exploring your amazing tower."
Cyborg looked embarrassed as the others glared at him, especially Raven who said, "If anyone were here you'd know about it huh?"
She then floated over Zatara and glared daggers at him as she angrily said, "And first things first, no one goes in MY room!"
Zatara was intimidated as he smiled nervously and said, "Gotcha."
She landed and rejoined the others as Robin moved his left arm and curiously asked, "So Zatara, why are you here? What do you want from us?"
Zatara smiled happily as he pointed his wand at all of them and said, "I want to join your team."
The Titans all gasped in terror as their jaws dropped and Raven shouted, "What?!"
Zatara smiled arrogantly as he said, "That's right! I want to be a Teen Titan! You guys are legends! Just think how much better you'll be with me on your team."
Cyborg looked nervous as he said, "Uh… Thanks for the offer man but we're not really looking for any new members."
Raven folded her arms as she deadpanned, "Yeah, especially since our last new member didn't work out so well."
Beast Boy frowned next to her while Zatara smiled and bragged, "Oh you guys don't have to worry about anything. I already know how to fight and with my magic I can handle any bad guy who comes my way. I'll always have your backs and be there to get you out of any trouble. Trust me. You've never had a friend like me."
Robin tried to be polite as he said, "Look Zatara, we appreciate the enthusiasm but I'm not sure you'd be a good addition to our team."
Zatara levitated as he cockily said, "Robin, I don't think you realize what you're talking to, so why don't I give you guys a demonstration."
He smiled as he pointed his wand at Beast Boy and Raven when a large puff of smoke covered them as Starfire, Robin, and Cyborg watched them. When the smoke cleared it just looked like Beast Boy and Raven had switched places as they stood next to each other.
Raven put her hands on her sides as she looked at Zatara and spoke, but Beast Boy's voice came out of her mouth saying, "Dude, what'd you do? Nothing happened."
Cyborg, Robin, and Starfire all gasped in shock as they stared at the two of them with their mouths agape.
Raven's voice came out of Beast Boy's mouth saying, "I'm with Beast Boy. All you did was make some smoke appear."
Cyborg was speechless as he said, "Uh… Guys… Are you okay?"
Beast Boy turned to face Cyborg as he said, "Yeah Cy. Why?"
He stopped when he turned his head to his right and saw what appeared to be himself standing next to him. He looked down at himself to see Raven's body and outfit beneath his face and he frantically looked back and forth at himself and Raven.
He quickly became nervous as he said, "Uh… Raven…"
Raven turned to him with an annoyed expression as she said, "What?"
When she saw herself looking back at her, her eyes widened and she glanced down at her body and said, "Oh no!"
Beast Boy freaked out as he pointed at her before looking down at himself while yelling, "You're me! I'm you! I'm a girl! Dude!"
Starfire looked at Zatara in shock as she exclaimed, "You have swapped their bodies?!"
Zatara laughed as he held his stomach and said, "No! It's an illusion."
As he continued talking Raven looked at him curiously while glancing at Beast Boy with an annoyed expression. Beast Boy wouldn't stop daring down at himself as he curiously traced his figure; he put his hands on the top of his chest, then moved them down to feel his stomach, and rubbed his hips and legs.
While the two of them did this, Zatara happily explained, "It's just a trick of the eye. You two look like each other but you're still you."
Realizing he was right, Beast Boy got a devious idea that he thought would be fun as he looked at Raven out of the corner of his eye.
He smirked at her as he put his hands on his hips and bent his right leg forward to pose girlishly while he said, "Hey Raven, check out my legs."
Raven let out a weary sigh as she rolled her eyes before looking at Zatara as she said, "Well I guess is better than the real thing. Turn us back."
He waved his wand at them again and Beast Boy and Raven both looked like their normal selves again.
Beast Boy let out a cry of fight before groaning in disappointment while Raven smiled as she looked at Beast Boy out of the corner of her eye.
Zatara smiled at all of them as he excitedly said, "You see? With illusions I can do the most spectacular performances. Watch."
He waved his wand around and made a series of illusions appear and disappear around him while he acted like a showman. First he made it look like he was a circus ringmaster, then he changed and made a chorus girl line appear behind him as they kicked their legs out, then he made an elephant appear. He made all them vanish and made two white tigers appear beside him as they roared and then nuzzled him affectionately.
He made them vanish and Starfire applauded and said, "Well done Zatara. Most convincing."
Zatara smiled excitedly and said, "Oh that's not all I can do! I can do awesome things that none of you can!"
He waved his wand and made real fireworks explode as he said, "Can you guys do this?"
He then twirled his wand in the air and made small snow cloud appear and then said, "Can you guys do that?"
He took his hat off and reached into, making Beast Boy disappear as he pulled him out of his hat in the form of a green rabbit.
While he did this he happily said, "Can you pull this out your little hat?"
Starfire happily giggled while Raven and Cyborg smirked at Beast Boy, who turned human and said, "Don't do that!"
Zatara smiled arrogantly as he bragged, "And that's just a taste of what I can do! So what do you think? Am I good or what?"
Raven was annoyed as she softly said to herself, "He sure likes to hear himself talk."
Robin tried to be polite as he said, "You definitely have skills and you seem like a good guy, but I'm not sure you're what we're looking for."
Beast Boy rubbed the back of his head as he sheepishly said, "Yeah dude, plus our last new member didn't work out so good."
Raven stepped toward Zatara and folded her arms as she bluntly said, "In other words, thanks but no thanks."
Zatara was disappointed as made lights sparkle and he whined, "Aww come on! Look at me! What more do you need?!"
Suddenly an alarm went off and Robin pulled out his Communicator before looking at the others as he said, "Trouble!"
Zatara immediately got excited as he exclaimed, "Yes! Perfect! I'll help you guys and you can see just how great I really am!"
The Titans looked uncertain but did not argue as they took off running to stop whatever was going on.
Meanwhile in a jewelry store
Mumbo was stealing priceless gems, pearls, and other items while the two managers were bound and gagged.
Mumbo smiled at the man and woman as he said, "And for my final act, I will make this beautiful diamond necklace vanish before your eyes. Mumbo Jumbo!"
He waved his wand and made the diamond necklace magically disappear out of the glass box that it was in.
He looked back at the two people as they muffled something and he said, "Thank you, and now I must take my leave."
He disappeared in a puff of smoke and reappeared outside on a rooftop as he looked at some of the jewels he stole.
He smiled as he looked at them and said, "A nice profit from my performance."
Suddenly he heard Robin say, "Well I think they want a refund."
He turned to see the Titans on another nearby rooftop and he smiled confidently as he said, "Sorry you missed the show, but I've still got a few tricks up my sleeve."
He held his arms out and made millions of cards shoot out of his sleeves, but Raven blocked them with a force-field of her dark magic. She dropped it and the Titans attacked as they all hurried toward Mumbo, but he smiled deviously as he pulled out his wand and waved it around. He fired a white blast of magic energy at them; the Titans scattered to avoid it as it exploded in a bright flash. Robin threw a birdarang at Mumbo but he dodged it and waved his wand as he made chains appear over Robin, restraining him.
Then a large tank of water appeared and Robin was placed inside it as Mumbo said, "Let's see if you're as good as Houdini."
Starfire quickly smashed the tank opened and pulled Robin out as she broke the chains off of him before helping him onto his feet. Her eyes glowed green as she flew at Mumbo and shot her eyebeams at him, but he avoided them squirted a lot of water at her from a flower on his suit. It sprayed her in the face and she couldn't see as Mumbo made a huge mallet appear and swung it at her face, sending crashing down to the street. Mumbo smiled until Beast Boy jumped in front of him as a kangaroo and punched him in the face three times before knocking him down.
Beast Boy came hopping toward him when Mumbo smiled and said, "Alakazam!"
He made a banana peal appear and Beast Boy hopped on it and slipped and fell down on his back in pain.
Mumbo laughed while Beast Boy turned human as he sat up and angrily complained, "Dude, that joke is so old!"
He turned into a sasquatch and ran toward him when Mumbo waved his wand and made a limbo stick appear in front of him.
Beast Boy hit it and fell down as he reverted to his human form, then Mumbo said, "How low can you go?"
He turned his head as he heard Cyborg shout, "Not as low as you!"
Cyborg fired his left sonic cannon at him, but Mumbo took off his hat and held out as the beam went into his hat. It vanished and Mumbo made the sonic blast shoot out of his hat back at Cyborg, blasting him off the rooftop and into an office of a nearby building. Mumbo smiled until he was hit by a beam of dark energy and he turned to see Raven floating above him.
He smiled deviously as he levitated in front of her and said, "Ah, my old assistant. Perhaps you'd care to help me put on another spectacular show."
Raven glared at him as she said, "No thanks. I like my own magic better, and my tricks are better than yours."
Mumbo looked annoyed as he said, "Oh really? Well let's find out ourselves then."
He held out his wand and waved it as he made a piano appear over Raven and fall on her, but before it could hit her she vanished in a field of her black magic. She reappeared behind Mumbo and hit him with a ray of her dark energy, knocking him back only for him to keep floating and turn around. He then turned his wand into a large saw and flew at Raven, but she blocked the saw with a barrier of her dark energy. She dropped it and blasted Mumbo again, but he kept floating as he turned his saw back into his wand and glared at her.
Raven's eyes glowed white as she held her hands out and chanted, "Azarath Metrion Zinthos!"
She shot bolts of black lightning at Mumbo but he dodged them and smiled evilly as he said, "Mumbo Jumbo!"
He then made a straightjacket appear over Raven, restraining her arms as she struggled; she could not move her hands at all. She started to chant her mantra until Mumbo waved his wand and made a rag appear over Raven's mouth, effectively gagging her. She muffled with the rag on her mouth and Mumbo flew at her as he made a boxing glove appear on his hand and he punched her in the face. He knocked her down to the rooftop and she got on her knees as she muffled and kept struggling to get her straightjacket off.
Mumbo floated over her with an evil grin on his face as he said, "Now my assistant, it's time for your grand finale!"
He waved his wand and made an anvil appear over her and he dropped it toward her when suddenly the anvil turned into a bunch of flowers that gently floated down.
Mumbo was shocked as he said, "What?!"
Raven and the others all watched as Zatara suddenly appeared in a puff of smoke in front of Mumbo.
Zatara smiled arrogantly as he said, "Don't stop now! The show must go on!"
With her mouth still gagged, Raven groaned in exasperation as she watched the two annoying magical magicians.
Commercial break
Zatara kept floating in front of Mumbo, who pointed at him as he curiously said, "Who are you?"
Zatara folded his arms as he proudly said, "I'm the Titans' new member."
The Titans all showed annoyed expressions as Robin rubbed the back of his head uncomfortably and Raven rolled her eyes.
Mumbo got interested as he leered at Zatara and said, "Oh really?"
Zatara smiled excitedly as he pointed at Mumbo and said, "That's right! I'm Zatara! The greatest magician ever! I'm here to help my team and send you to jail!"
Mumbo smiled evilly as he said, "Well then, let's go!"
He held his wand out and shot a beam of white energy at Zatara, but moved his wand and said, "Tcelfer!"
Suddenly a magic mirror appeared in front of him, deflecting the beam and sending it back at Mumbo. Mumbo screamed in terror as he ducked and avoided the beam and watched as Zatara's mirror vanished as he smugly grinned.
Mumbo smiled as he said, "Nice try kid, but you'll have to do better than that to beat me. Mumbo Jumbo!"
Mumbo then made a bright light flash, temporarily blinding Zatara as he covered his eyes and cried in pain. His eyesight returned as he saw Mumbo fly at him as he turned his wand into a mallet and swung it at him, but Zatara narrowly avoided it. Zatara flew backwards as Mumbo kept swinging the mallet at him until Zatara kicked him in the chest. Mumbo's mallet turned back into his wand as he took his hat off, and pulled out a stuffed rabbit.
He threw it at Zatara, who avoided it as it exploded, then Zatara raised his hands as he said, "Etativel!"
He made large chunks of debris levitate around him and then sent them flying at Mumbo, but he only smiled as he dodged all of them. He disappeared in a puff of smoke and Zatara looked worried when Mumbo appeared behind him. While Zatara continued to fight Mumbo, the Titans regrouped as they all helped Raven, still restrained. Robin used a birdarang to cut Raven's straightjacket open while Cyborg pulled the rag off her mouth, then Beast Boy took her hand and helped her up. The Titans stood together as they watched Zatara continue to fight as they both floated over a rooftop across the street. Zatara looked scared as he was starting to have a hard time beating Mumbo; Mumbo made a bunch of cards fly at him but Zatara waved his wand and made them fly away. Mumbo then made bombs appear in both his hands and he threw them at Zatara, who let out a small cry of fear as he avoided them when they exploded.
Zatara smiled as he tried to sound tough and said, "Is that all you got?"
Mumbo smiled evilly as he shot a white magical blast at him, but Zatara quickly held his hands out and made a sparkly magic force-field around him. It protected him as the blast exploded against it, then he dropped the force-field and smiled victoriously. Mumbo smiled evilly as he moved his wand in a circular motion, then he made a small tornado appear on the rooftop. Zatara screamed as it sucked him up and started whirling him around before he used magic to make it vanish, and he fell down on his back.
Mumbo floated over him and gloated as he said, "Nice try boy, but you really need to work on your presentation."
He looked to see the Titans coming toward them and then he bowed as he said, "You've been a wonderful audience, but it's time for me to take my leave."
He disappeared in a puff of smoke and Beast Boy changed from a bird to human as he said, "Where'd he go?"
Robin was vexed as he stared forward and said, "Who knows?"
They all looked at Zatara, who was still on his back as he smiled sheepishly and said, "I guess he had enough of me."
The others sighed in exasperation while Zatara felt ashamed and embarrassed about losing and letting Mumbo get away.
Later at Titans Tower
The Titans were gathered in the ops room as Zatara hopefully said, "Okay, I know this is bad, I know I messed up. But I can fix this. We'll find that guy and I'll kick his butt!"
Starfire spoke sincerely as she put her hands together and said, "Zatara, I fear that the Mumbo is too powerful for you to defeat."
Zatara shook his head as he stubbornly said, "No way! He just… caught me by surprise. Next time I'll show him some real magic."
Robin pointed his finger as he said, "No, Starfire's right Zatara. Mumbo is one of our most powerful enemies. What you saw was just a taste of what he can do."
Zatara smiled arrogantly as he pointed his finger and said, "Well he hasn't seen everything I can do either. You'll see. We'll find that Mumbo Jumbo and I'll show him who the REAL magician is!"
Cyborg spoke respectfully as he said, "Dude, you got skills but I think that Mumbo's a little above your paygrade."
Zatara started to get angry as he said, "No he's not! His cheap tricks won't stop me! I'll prove it! I'll beat him at his own game!"
Beast Boy raised his left finger as he curiously asked, "But dude, what if you can't beat him at his own game?"
Zatara levitated and made fog appear, then he made little lights flash, and fireworks shoot as he said, "Are you kidding?! Look at me! I've got drama, style, and flare! I'm the great, amazing, and powerful Zatara!"
Raven was annoyed as she looked at him and said, "We know."
Zatara smiled conceitedly as he floated in the air and then snapped his left fingers while he said, "Mumbo may have magic, but I've still got a whole bunch of tricks and secrets tucked away in my sleeve."
After he snapped his fingers four illusions appeared on the floor behind him, they all looked exactly like Zatara.
The illusions of Zatara all smiled admiringly at him as they praised, "Oh yeah! You rock Zatara! You're the best Zatara! Mumbo doesn't stand a chance against you!"
Zatara shut his eyes with an arrogant smile and folded his arms while his illusions kept praising him tremendously.
Raven was annoyed as she said, "He's worse than Beast Boy."
Beast Boy was vexed as he glared at Raven out of the corner of his eye while a swollen red vein appeared on his forehead.
Zatara's illusions vanished and he gently landed on the floor when Robin respectfully said, "Look Zatara, we appreciate the help and we're not saying that you can't defeat Mumbo, but maybe you're not ready to face someone like him."
Zatara glared at them as he said, "You guys don't think I have what it takes to be a Titan!"
Robin held his hand up as he said, "We didn't say that."
Raven had her arms folded as she softly said, "But we were thinking it."
Zatara pointed his finger at them as he said, "I'll show you! When we find him I'll kick his butt myself and you'll see that I can be a Titan!"
Starfire was concerned as she said, "But you fought the Mumbo by yourself before and you were almost defeated."
Zatara smiled arrogantly as he said, "No problem. I'll fight fire with fire and prove that I'm a better magician than him!"
The Titans all looked at each other, realizing that Zatara would not change his mind and he would not stop until he beats Mumbo.
The others looked at Raven as Robin said, "Raven, set him straight."
Raven sighed in exasperation as she walked up to Zatara and said, "Come with me. Let's talk for a minute."
She and Zatara then disappeared in a field of Raven's dark energy; Raven transported them both to the roof of Titans Tower.
Zatara watched Raven's black magic vanish and smiled at her as he said, "Wow! Cool! Nice trick. Your magic's not half bad. It's not as flashy as mine, but still you're really good and you've got some good style."
She looked at Zatara with a serious expression as she said, "Listen to me! You can't beat Mumbo! Not when you don't know how."
Zatara had an arrogant expression as he waved his hands and made an illusion of Mumbo and said, "What's to know? When I see him I'm going to show him some powerful magic! I'll teach him not to mess with us Titans!"
The illusion of Mumbo was on his knees as he started sobbing before Zatara made it disappear with a conceited smile.
Raven sighed in annoyance and stared at him with a serious expression as she said, "I'm telling you, you can't beat Mumbo at his own game! Trust me I know. His tricks may be cheap but they're just as dangerous."
Zatara eyed her skeptically as he humored her and said, "Okay, so tell me, how do you suppose I beat him."
Raven kept staring at him with her serious expression as she moved her right hand and said, "If you want to beat him you have to be smart. You can't play his game, you need to do your own thing. Use what you're good at to misdirect him. Use his ego against him, show him he's not the only one who can trick people. You have to pull off a bigger trick of your own that will catch him off guard and put him in a position you can strike."
Zatara brushed off her advice as he waved his arm forward and egotistically said, "Thanks but I don't need any of that. I'll fight fire with fire and kick his butt! Everyone will see that I'm the best magician and the greatest addition to the Teen Titans!"
Raven startled him as she zapped him with her black magic and glared at him as she angrily said, "You're impossible! You don't listen to anyone but yourself! How does that hat fit on your head?! You think being a hero means just using your powers to show everyone you're better than them! If that's how you feel then you'll never be a Titan!"
She turned around and walked away before using her black magic to phase down through the roof and back inside. Zatara was shocked at what she said when suddenly an alarm sounded and he went back inside the Tower, to the ops room to find Robin at the computer.
He turned back to everyone and said, "It's Mumbo again."
Zatara smiled excitedly as he said, "Yes! Time for a rematch!"
Robin stood up and said, "Uh… Maybe you should stay here."
Zatara stubbornly defied him as he said, "No! I'm coming! I'll beat that guy and prove to you all that I have what it takes to be a Teen Titan!"
Robin looked at the others and sighed in exasperation as he realized that they couldn't stop him from coming.
He surrendered and turned around as he said, "Fine! Titans go!"
Later at the museum
Mumbo had all the guards tied up as well as some civilians as he stole a priceless emerald from a display case.
He held it in his hand as he happily said, "This is a very thoughtful gift from the audience."
Then he turned his head as he heard Robin say, "Gifts are supposed to be given, not taken."
He saw the Titans and Zatara at the entrance of the museum as they all glared at him, ready to fight.
Mumbo smiled as he happily said, "Right on time Titans. I was hoping you would make it in time for my next performance. On with the show!"
He made a bunch of small bombs fly out of his sleeves as the Titans scattered to avoid them as they exploded everywhere. Robin pulled out his bo staff and ran at Mumbo as he swung it at him, but Mumbo smiled as he swiftly avoided it.
He then shouted, "Abracadabra!"
Robin's bo suddenly floated out of his hands and bent itself as it wrapped around his upper body, restraining him. Mumbo then kicked him to the ground and Starfire floated in front of him and threw a few starbolts at him. Mumbo avoided them as he made his wand appear and then shot a magic beam at Starfire that sent her crashing through a wall. He looked to see Beast Boy charging toward him as an elephant, but Mumbo waved his wand and made the green elephant float in the air while a big red ball appeared beneath him. Mumbo set Beast Boy down on top of the ball and he struggled to balance on it like a circus elephant before falling over.
Mumbo laughed happily as he said, "Oh I love the circus!"
Beast Boy turned into a tiger and roared, Mumbo turned his wand into a whip and lashed it at Beast Boy. He hurt Beast Boy's paw and Beast Boy ran at him as he pounced toward him, but Mumbo stepped out of the way and made a ring of fire appear. Beast Boy went through ring of fire and landed on his feet, unharmed, and he turned around and growled at Mumbo. The ring of fire disappeared and Mumbo made a wooden chair appear in his hand, and Beast Boy came at him. Mumbo jabbed the chair at the green tire and then whipped him again, hurting Beast Boy's other paw.
Beast Boy roared in pain and then swung his paw and knocked the chair out of Mumbo's hand. Mumbo kept smiling as he Beast Boy jumped at him while roaring, but Mumbo stepped aside and Beast Boy missed. He landed behind Mumbo when a large rope net fell on him and trapped him; Beast Boy roared as he struggled and soon got free. Just as he got out of the net Mumbo's whip turned into a large mallet and he hit Beast Boy in the head, knocking him out. Beast Boy fell to the floor and reverted to his human form as Mumbo smiled down at him.
Mumbo looked around with his arms out as he smiled and said, "And that is how I tamed this savage beast."
Suddenly he heard Cyborg angrily yell, "Yo ringmaster! Quit clowning around!"
Cyborg ran at Mumbo from behind and punched him to the ground, but Mumbo got back up and glared at him. Cyborg yelled in fury as he came at him again, but Mumbo made a joy buzzer appear on his hand and he slapped Cyborg's chest. His joy buzzer shocked Cyborg as electricity surged and he screamed in pain before falling to the floor unconscious.
Mumbo smiled down at him as he said, "Oh it wasn't that shocking."
Raven then floated down over Cyborg and glared at Mumbo as she held her hands out while they were covered with her dark energy. She encased some chunks of debris in her black magic and hurled them at Mumbo, only for him to wave his wand and turn them into birds. Mumbo floated in the air and stared at Raven as he shot a magical beam of energy from his wand at her, but she disappeared into the floor and reappeared behind him. He turned his head to look at her when she shot a beam of her black magic at him, but he swerved to avoid it. He then pointed his wand at her as he made a blindfold appear over her eyes as her hood went down, Raven tried to pull it off but it was tight. Eventually she got it off, only for Mumbo to hit her with a huge mallet and knock her to the ground as she groaned in pain.
He walked over to her and shook his hand as he said, "You're a fine magician but you lack showmanship."
He raised his mallet over his head and prepared to smash her when suddenly he was hit by a magical blast. He turned to see Zatara floating in front of him with an angry expression; Mumbo turned his mallet into his wand as he floated toward him.
He looked annoyed as he stood up and glared daggers as he said, "You again?! I thought you learned your lesson last time."
Zatara pointed at him as he angrily said, "You got lucky once, but this time I'll show some of my other tricks! The Titans will see that I'm a real hero! I'll beat you at your own game and prove that I'm the better magician!"
Mumbo smiled deviously as he said, "If you insist."
He then sent a bunch of small bombs flying toward Zatara, but he quickly protected himself with a force-field. The bombs exploded against it and then he dropped it and waved his wand as he sent a few fireballs at Mumbo. Mumbo dodged them and smiled evilly as he took his hat off and launched a magical blast from it at Zatara. Zatara avoided it and then shot lightning from his wand and zapped Mumbo as he screamed in pain. Mumbo fell down but got back up with an evil smile as he held his wand out and shot a beam of white magic at him, but Zatara dodged it. He then moved his wand in a circle and made a small sort of black hole appear and suck Mumbo up before closing. Then another one opened and made ejected Mumbo and sent him falling to the floor, he shook his head and got back on his feet.
He smiled evilly at Zatara as he said, "Good trick."
Zatara glared at him as he waved his wand again while saying, "I've got a bunch of them. Watch this! Enacirruh!"
He then caused a powerful wind to blow through the museum that knocked Mumbo over and sent him tumbling.
He quickly levitated and said, "Alakazam!"
He made the wind stop blowing, to Zatara's shock, and then Mumbo waved his wand and made a rope appear and tie him up.
Zatara struggled while Mumbo smiled, then Zatara said, "Ecils!"
The rope was suddenly magically sliced into pieces as they fell to the ground while Zatara held his arms out, now free. Raven came to and watched Zatara while the other Titans started to help each other, not paying attention to the fight. Starfire used her strength to pry Robin's bent bo staff off of him, and Beast Boy helped Cyborg get on his feet, while Raven kept watching the two magicians. Mumbo made a bomb appear in his hand and threw it at Zatara, but he waved his wand and made it fly up and explode high in the air. Zatara then poofed away and reappeared directly in front of Mumbo as he tried to punch him in the face. Mumbo blocked his fist and the two magicians floated in the air as they engaged in hand-to-hand combat. Raven watched as the others joined her and stood beside her as they watched Zatara continue to fight Mumbo.
As they watched Cyborg was mildly impressed as he said, "Zatara's actually doing pretty good right now."
Beast Boy smiled as he admitted, "Yeah, he's got some nice moves."
Starfire watched Zatara then looked at the others as she honestly said, "Perhaps he would make a worthy Titan."
Robin held his chin in serious thought as he said, "His skills and magic would be pretty helpful for us in fighting some villains in the future. He might be able beat Mumbo."
Raven kept watching Zatara and Mumbo fight with a skeptical expression as she said, "Unless he does something stupid."
Mumbo managed to block every one of Zatara's attacks until Zatara finally kicked him in the stomach and knocked him back.
Mumbo smiled deviously as he exclaimed, "Abracadabra!"
Mumbo then made a sword magically appear and float in the air before it went flying toward Zatara at high speed. Zatara smiled as he waved his wand and made a shield magically appear in front of him, protecting him as the sword got stuck in the shield. Both items magically disappeared as Zatara stared at Mumbo with a big arrogant smile on his face.
He kept smiling as held his wand out and arrogantly bragged, "Give it up Mumbo! As long as I've got this you're no match for me!"
Mumbo smiled deviously as he said, "Is that so?"
He held his right hand out and made a long string of handkerchiefs shoot out of his sleeve and stretch toward Zatara. The string of handkerchiefs wrapped around Zatara's wand and Mumbo pulled back on it, yanking the wand out of Zatara's hand.
Zatara reached for his wand as it was pulled away from him as he shouted, "My wand!"
Mumbo reeled in the string of handkerchiefs back up his sleeve and held Zatara's wand in his hand with an evil smile.
The Titans gasped in shock and fear, except Raven who was not surprised at all as she simply said, "Saw it coming."
Zatara then angrily ran at Mumbo and tried to take back his magic wand as he demanded, "Give it back!"
Mumbo quickly kicked him and knocked him to the ground, and when Zatara got up Mumbo said, "Let's see how good you are without your little stick."
He then waved his wand and made a cannon appear and fire a cannonball at Zatara, but he ducked and avoided being hit. Mumbo then waved Zatara's wand in his other hand and made several small daggers appear and float in the air before flying toward Zatara. Zatara screamed in fear as he ran and all the daggers stabbed the wall as they missed him while he kept running and fell to the floor. Mumbo smiled evilly as he waved both wands at the same time and made a fireball appear and launch at Zatara. Zatara was just getting up when the fireball hit him and blasted him back into the wall behind him as he cried in pain.
The Titans were all shocked as Robin exclaimed, "Zatara!"
Mumbo had a sinister grin as he gloated, "It looks like you need to learn some new tricks if you want to be a REAL magician."
The Titans all quickly hurried toward Mumbo but he turned to them with a sinister smile as he whirled both wands through the air in circular motions. He then fired a large white blast of magical energy at them and hit all the Titans at the same time, blasting them all and knocking them on their backs. Mumbo laughed crazily before turning back to Zatara and walking toward him, while Zatara sat on the floor with his back against the wall.
He looked up at Mumbo, who looked down at him with an evil grin as he held up both wands and said, "You know, I should thank you Zatara. Because of you I now have two wands, twice the fire power! I'm twice the magician I was before! So thank you."
Zatara glared up at Mumbo as he spitefully said, "You're NOT welcome!"
Mumbo ignored his comment as he happily stared into space and said, "With these I'll be the greatest magician the world has ever known! I'll be able to perform truly spectacular tricks and pull off the most amazing crimes ever! No one will be able to stop me!"
Zatara kept glaring at Mumbo as he pointed at him and defiantly said, "That hat is squeezing your brain! The Titans will stop you!"
Zatara smiled deviously down at him as he said, "Really?"
He turned back to the Titans, who were just getting up, and he took off his hat and said, "Mumbo Jumbo!"
He held his hat out and it started sucking things up like a vacuum, it began to suck the Titans as the wind swirled like a vortex.
The Titans all screamed as the hat started to suck them up while Beast Boy screamed, "Dude! Not again!"
Cyborg used his strength to dig his fingers into the ground as he yelled, "Not the hat!"
Raven's cloak was mobbing as she turned around and complained, "Just our luck!"
The suction of the hat was too strong and powerful as Cyborg lost his grip and Starfire and Raven could not fly away from the vacuum. The five young heroes all screamed as they were magically sucked into Mumbo's hat and disappeared one by one.
Zatara was horrified as he stood up and shouted, "No!"
Mumbo looked inside his hat with an evil smile as he said, "Welcome back Titans. I've been waiting for this moment."
He turned to Zatara, who tried to attack as he angrily demanded, "Let them go!"
He tried to punch Mumbo in the face, but Mumbo just smiled as he leaned back to avoid his fist then he kicked Zatara in the chest. He then waved his wand and made Zatara fly back into the wall and fall on his butt again.
Mumbo put his hat back on and kneeled down in front of Zatara with an evil grin as he said, "You gave me my new wand kid, so I'm gonna let you off with a warning. Don't steal my spotlight, or your next act will be your final performance."
Zatara looked afraid but tried to be brave as he said, "You'll never get away with this! I'm Zatara, the greatest boy magician!"
Mumbo stood up and smiled mockingly as he said, "Nice enthusiasm kid, but you're just a boy with a toy wand. An amateur. You're out of your league. Stick to street magic and leave the real magic to the professionals."
Zatara was stung by Mumbo's words as he watched him turn around and walk away, his confidence cracked and his pride hurt.
Mumbo smiled at all the other people as he happily said, "Well I'd love to stick around but I've got places to go and people to see."
He disappeared in a puff of smoke and Zatara just looked down at the floor with a defeated expression as he sulked.
Commercial break
Mumbo was flying through Jump City, laughing like a maniac as he terrorized innocent people with his magic. He held both wands out as she he shot a bunch of magical white beams of energy while people ran and screamed in fear. Mumbo made some bombs fly around and explode, destroying some things while people kept running and screaming. Mumbo used magic to do various things as he kept wreaking havoc while he laughed like a maniac. Meanwhile, inside Mumbo's hat, the Titans had all been turned into animals again, except Beast Boy who was a lamp. Starfire was once again a tiger, Raven was a bunny, Robin was a monkey, and Cyborg was a bear in a tutu again. They were all in small cages in a dark room with a bright light shining overhead, and they already knew their powers wouldn't work.
Cyborg looked down at his tutu as he complained, "Aww man, why did he have to do this again?"
Robin looked around with a serious expression as he said, "We have to find a way out of this hat and stop Mumbo."
Raven had her arms folded as she said, "I'm sure when Mumbo's done out there he'll come in here to finish us off."
They all looked up as they heard Mumbo's voice echo as he said, "That's right! So enjoy your last few moments Titanimals! Soon the show will be over!"
He laughed evilly while Raven glared forward with an annoyed expression while Robin, Starfire, and Cyborg showed tedious expressions.
Cyborg looked down at Raven as he complained, "No offense Raven, but I'm really starting to hate magic."
Raven shrugged her shoulders as she said, "None taken."
Beast Boy turned into a French telephone and rang, Robin answered him and said, "Hello?"
He then looked at Raven and held the earpiece toward Raven as he said, "It's for you."
Raven sighed in exasperation as she took it and held it up to her rabbit ear and said, "What?"
She listened as Beast Boy curiously asked, "Can't you just pull another trick to get us out like you did last time?"
Raven glanced around in thought as she answered, "Won't work. Mumbo won't fall for the same trick twice, and there's nothing in here that would help us pull off a new trick."
Cyborg looked down at the others as he curiously asked, "So how are we gonna get out of this crazy hat?"
Starfire spoke optimistically as she said, "Perhaps Zatara will liberate us."
Robin and Cyborg looked at each other with uncertainty before Robin seriously said, "No! She's right! Zatara is our only hope."
Beast Boy changed into a trumpet and played funeral music while Raven pessimistically said, "We're doomed."
Meanwhile in the city
Zatara was walking on the sidewalk by a large building, sulking over his recent failure and defeat at the hands of Mumbo.
As he walked he looked down at the ground and sadly said to himself, "I can't believe it! I screwed up big time! I lost! I thought I could beat him, I thought I was the best, I thought my magic was better, but all I did was make everything worse! I gave Mumbo twice the magic power he had before, and now he's got the Titans."
He stopped and looked at his reflection in the window of the building as he sadly said, "They're right about me. All of them! I don't have what it takes to be a Titan, I'm no hero, I'm not even a real magician."
He tilted his head down as he sadly said, "Mumbo was right, I'm just a kid pretending to be a magician. I tried to beat him at his own game but I couldn't. His tricks were too good for me. I should've listened to Raven."
His eyes widened in realization as he stared into space and said, "Wait…"
He then imagined Raven standing in front of him as he remembered her saying, "You can't play his game, you need to do your own thing. Use what you're good at to misdirect him. Use his ego against him, show him he's not the only one who can trick people. You have to pull off a bigger trick of your own that will catch him off guard and put him in a position you can strike."
Zatara came back to reality as he smiled and said, "That's it!"
He got an idea as he immediately took off running in order to find Mumbo and rescue the Titans from his hat.
Later in the city square
Mumbo was terrorizing people near the Titans' favorite pizza place as he laughed maniacally and waved the wands around. He made some girls float in the middle of three yellow rings that were floating in the air above the sidewalk. A couple of guys were being chased by a living mailbox as it spit envelopes at them while roaring. A little girl and her parents were trapped as hundreds of Mumbo's playing cards flew around them in a giant circle. Some boys were running in fear as a giant bunny hopped after them with a creepy smile on its face.
Mumbo watched everyone as he laughed and said, "Thank you all for being a wonderful audience and wonderful volunteers, but I'm going to need a couple more for this next trick.
He looked at two boys and pointed Zatara's wand at them as he made large wooden boxes appear over them. The boys were trapped as their heads stuck out one side of the boxes while their feet stuck out the other sides. Two saws appeared and floated in the air as they began to saw the boxes in half while the boys screamed in fear.
Mumbo watched with an evil smile as he looked around and said, "I hope you like this Jump City, because nothing can stop the amazing Mumbo! Nothing!"
He laughed evilly until his giant bunny suddenly disappeared, much to his shock and confusion as he looked around. He soon saw the rest of his tricks and traps magically disappear as the victims were set free. The living mailbox stopped chasing the two guys as it quickly returned to normal and went back to the sidewalk. The cards flying around the girl and her parents stopped moving and then magically disappeared before their eyes. The rings the girls were floating in magically disappeared and the girls were safely placed on the ground as they stood on their feet. The saws cutting the two boxes in half vanished and so did the boxes as the two boys were safely released.
Mumbo was shocked as he looked around and said, "What?! What's going on?"
Suddenly Zatara appeared in a puff of smoke as he floated high in the air and said, "The greatest show on Earth! That's what's going on!"
Mumbo looked at him with an annoyed expression as he said, "You again!"
Zatara smiled proudly as he put his hand on his chest and then held both his arms out as he said, "That's right! The great Zatara is back! And I'm going to stop you and give this town the greatest magic show ever!"
Mumbo glared at him as he put his wrists on his sides and said, "You fought me twice already and I beat you both times."
Zatara put his wrists on his sides as he confidently said, "Third time's the charm."
Mumbo smiled arrogantly as he held up Zatara's wand and said, "Are you forgetting that I'm even more powerful now that I have your wand? With your wand and my own in my hands I'm master of your fate!"
Zatara smiled confidently as he made a flower magically appear in his left hand while he said, "You think I need a wand to do magic?"
He made the flower vanish and then made a bunch of playing cards fly out of his sleeve toward Mumbo, but Mumbo made them vanish as he waved both wands.
He smiled evilly as he said, "Alright, it's your funeral. Mumbo Jumbo!"
He then sent a bunch of small bombs flying toward Zatara, but he held his hands out and made the bombs stop in midair. Zatara then threw his arms up and sent all the bombs straight into the air before they exploded, doing no harm to anyone or anything. Zatara put his hands together as he made an orb of energy appear between them and then he launched it at Mumbo. Mumbo flew out of the way as the orb exploded, then he smiled as he waved both wands as he made white beams of magic shoot at him.
Zatara dodged both beams and held his hands out as he shouted, "Xetrov!"
He then made a small tornado appear under where Mumbo was floating, and it sucked him up and spun him around before it dissipated.
Mumbo was dizzy and looked Zatara as he smugly said, "Are you all a bluster?"
Mumbo glared at him as he said, "Copycat!"
He waved the wands and made a large box appear around Zatara, then swords appeared floating beside it. The swords then entered the box through slots in the sides and the people all gasped in horror while Mumbo laughed evilly.
Zatara then reappeared out of the box, unharmed, and he smiled and took off his hat as he said, "Thank you for your assistance Mumbo. Now let's see what's in my hat."
He held it out as a flock of doves flew out of it and at Mumbo as they started pecking his face as he cried in pain. The birds all then flew back into Zatara's hat and all the people happily cheered for him while Mumbo glared with a vexed expression. Mumbo waved his wand and made the hat fly out of Zatara's hands and land on the ground underneath him, upside down.
Mumbo smugly grinned as he looked down at the hat and said, "Ha! Nothing in that hat!"
Zatara smiled deviously back at him then raised his left hand up while he said, "Don't be so sure. Resyeg!"
A vast amount of water shot out of the hat like a geyser and blasted Mumbo into the air as he screamed, then the hat flew back to Zatara.
Mumbo floated down and looked at Zatara as he asked, "How did you do that?"
Zatara smugly put his hat back on while he said, "Come on Mumbo, you know a great magician never reveals his secrets."
Mumbo glared at him as he waved both wands and said, "Not bad kid, but you're still no match for the amazing Mumbo! Alakazam!"
He then made two giant white gloves appear and they both curled up into fists as they flew at Zatara at high speed. He flew to avoid them but they floated in the air and tried to squash him a few times as they swatted at him like a fly. The gloves tried to squash him again as they clapped together but Zatara dodged them and showed a serious expression as he put his hands together. He concentrated and then put his hands out and fired bright blue beams of magic at the gloves, making them both vanish. Zatara had his back toward Mumbo, so Mumbo smiled deviously as he made a bomb appear and sent it flying toward Zatara. Zatara quickly turned around and caught the bomb in his right hand before throwing it back at Mumbo. Mumbo screamed in fear as he flew out of the way as the bomb exploded near him, then he glared back at Zatara.
Mumbo held both wands out as he shouted, "Abracadabra!"
He then shot a powerful ray of magic at Zatara, but he narrowed his eyes as he shouted, "Tcerider!"
He then turned around with his arms out as he made the ray change direction and turn and then made the ray fly back toward Mumbo. Mumbo screamed in terror when the ray hit him and damaged his outfit, but he shook off the ash and damage and looked normal again.
He glared at Zatara as he angrily said, "I admit, you're better than I thought, but you're still not good enough to beat me!"
Zatara floated down and landed on the street with a devious smile as he said, "Let's see if you're really as good as you think you are. Let's play a game."
He then raised his arms and made a giant cup appear and cover him while two more giant cups appeared at the sides. He then played a giant shell game as all of the cups moved around and changed positions before stopping in the same position they were before.
Mumbo stared at the three giant cups as he said, "Hmmm…"
He waved his wand and made the one in the middle rise up to reveal nothing underneath, then he made the one on the left rise. There was nothing underneath and Mumbo smiled as he made the only remaining cup rise only to reveal nothing under it either.
His eyes widened in shock, then he saw Zatara standing on a streetlight as he smugly said, "Oldest trick in the book. It's all about misdirection Mumbo. You know that. Maybe you're getting a little too old to do magic tricks."
Mumbo glared at him furiously as his face turned red, then he angrily shouted, "I'll show you some magic tricks!"
He waved both wands and made a cannon appear and fire at Zatara, but he flew and dodged the cannonball.
Mumbo kept glaring at him as he angrily said, "You can't beat me by yourself kid!"
Zatara smiled coyly as he floated in the air and said, "Then maybe I should bring in some backup."
He then magically made a couple dozen duplicates of himself as they all floated in the air and smiled down at Mumbo.
The people watched in awe but Mumbo smiled as he said, "Nice try kid, but that trick won't work on me. I know they're all just illusions."
Every one of the Zataras grinned as they spoke in unison as they said, "But which one of us is the real one?"
Mumbo whirled the wands as he said, "One way to find out!"
He then made a bunch of beams of magic shoot from the wands and destroyed all the illusions, but there was no sign of the real Zatara.
Mumbo looked around as he asked, "Where'd he go?"
Zatara suddenly popped up behind him with a smile as he said, "Looking for me?"
Mumbo cried in fear when Zatara took his wand back from him and then kicked Mumbo's back, knocking him down.
Mumbo immediately got up as Zatara happily held his wand and said, "Welcome back my friend, now you're half the magician you once were."
Mumbo glared at him as held his wand out and said, "Even with your wand you can never stop the amazing Mumbo!"
Zatara smiled and waved his wand as he said, "Never say 'never'."
He then made some fireballs appear and launched them at Mumbo, hitting him and burning him before he shook off the soot and ash. Mumbo then angrily held his wand out and fired a magical beam of energy, but Zatara dodged it and waved his wand.
Mumbo's hat suddenly flew off his head as he tried to grab it while shouting, "My hat!"
The hat flew into Zatara's hand and he whirled his wand over it and said, "Esrever."
Mumbo screamed in horror as Zatara made everything he stole fall out of his hat, then the Titans fell out of Mumbo's hat and landed on top of each other.
Mumbo pressed his hands against the sides of his head as he frantically exclaimed, "My spell! My wealth! My menagerie!"
Cyborg stood up and looked down at his waist, then smiled as he happily exclaimed, "I'm not wearing a tutu!"
Raven pulled her hood down as she curiously felt her head and smiled as she said, "We're normal. Well, as normal as we were before."
The people happily cheered as Beast Boy looked around and said, "We're free!"
They looked at Zatara as he smiled and said, "Hey guys."
Starfire floated in the air as she happily clinched her fists and said, "Zatara! You have saved us! I knew you would!"
Robin got up and smiled proudly at Zatara as he commended, "She's right! You did it Zatara!"
Zatara smiled proudly before turning to Mumbo as he held his hat out while he said, "Yeah, I did. And now, for my next trick… Mumbo Jumbo!"
He then made Mumbo's hat start sucking up air like a vacuum again and Mumbo screamed in terror as it started sucking him.
He tried to fly away but the suction was too strong as he was sucked into his own hat while he screamed, "Noooo!"
The hat sucked him up and his head stuck out of it briefly before pulling him while Zatara said, "Now you see him, now you don't!"
Raven was impressed as she smiled and said, "Now that's some good magic."
Beast Boy looked at Zatara and happily said, "Sweet! Awesome trick!"
Starfire happily clapped her hands as she said, "Yes Zatara! Bravo!"
Zatara smiled at them and looked inside Mumbo's hat, Mumbo was all by himself in a dark room with a bright light shining overhead, and he was surrounded by the empty cages he put the Titans in.
Mumbo looked upward as he shook his left fist and angrily yelled, "You'll pay for this kid! When I get out of here you're in for it!"
He heard Zatara's voice echo as he smugly said, "Uh huh. Whatever you say."
Mumbo put his wrists on his sides as he kept looking up and smiled overconfidently as he said, "You think you've beaten me? This is MY hat! I know all its secrets. I'll be out of here in no time and you'll be in big trouble."
Zatara then replied, "Not if I do this. Eruces!"
Suddenly a bright blue light flashed and the light shining overhead changed as Mumbo screamed in fear, then a cylinder-shaped blue magical force-field appeared around Mumbo.
He placed his hands against the force-field and then looked up as he frantically asked, "What did you just do?"
He heard Zatara's voice say, "I placed a binding spell on your hat to keep you trapped inside. This will keep you from causing any more trouble."
Mumbo pounded the force-field before smiling deviously as he looked up and said, "Ha! Clever move boy, but my magic is stronger in here. I'll break your little spell and then get out of here to pull off some new spectacular performances."
Zatara spoke confidently as he said, "I'm sure you will. But it might take you a few weeks, if you know the best way to do it."
Mumbo's smile vanished as he realized Zatara was right, he glared forward as he pouted and said, "I hate that kid."
Outside, Zatara glanced around to see all the people applauding for him and he bowed and said, "Thank you. Thank you. You're too kind."
They all kept clapping while the Titans watched Zatara, the others smile while Raven stared at him with an impressed expression.
The police soon arrived and Zatara gave them Mumbo's hat as he said, "Here. This will hold him for a while, but keep it somewhere safe."
The officer nodded and left with Mumbo's hat as he entered the truck with the others and they drove away with the items Mumbo stole.
Zatara smiled proudly before looking at the Titans as Starfire happily said, "Bravo Zatara! Glorious! You freed us from our hat-shaped prison, defeated the Mumbo, and reclaimed your wand! Truly magnificent!"
Robin smiled with respect as he nodded in agreement and said, "Starfire's right Zatara. You really came through."
Cyborg smiled as he congratulated him as he said, "Yeah man! Way to go!"
Beast Boy smiled as he pointed his finger then put his thumb on his chest as he said, "Dude, that was the best magic show I've ever been to!"
Starfire hopped up and down while she clapped her hands and happily said, "Agreed Beast Boy! It truly was the most astounding spectacle on this planet!"
Cyborg gave him a thumbs-up as he proudly complimented, "Yeah. You really did show Mumbo some REAL magic."
Zatara smiled proudly as he said, "Thanks guys."
Raven walked up to Zatara and sighed as she said, "I hate to admit it, but you really did a great job and saved the day, and I'm sorry about what I said to you earlier."
Zatara was flattered and showed respect as he said, "Thanks Raven, that's okay, but I have to admit I couldn't have done it if it weren't for you."
Starfire let out a gasp of shock while Robin's eyes widened and Cyborg let out a hushed, "Whoa."
Beast Boy's eyes widened as he said, "Dude!"
Raven was also a bit shocked as she said, "What did you say?"
Zatara smiled as he nodded and honestly said, "You were right. Beating Mumbo at his own game wasn't the way to go. I needed to use my own tricks to outsmart him and make him lose his edge."
Raven was amazed as she said, "You actually DID listen to me?"
Zatara glanced around as he honestly replied, "Actually no. After Mumbo caught you guys I thought about what you said and realized I should've listened to you before."
Raven looked at him as she sassily said, "So you finally got smart."
Zatara turned and stared into space as solemnly said, "Yeah, and I learned something. No matter how good I am, things aren't always gonna be easy. If I'm gonna be a hero I'm going to need to use everything I know to fight bad guys and help people. I have to be ready for anything. I need to keep training and working hard so that I'll be able to take anything they throw at me."
The others all smiled with respect as Robin walked up to him and said, "Well I think you've definitely proven yourself."
Zatara looked back at Robin in wonder as he said, "Really? You mean…"
Robin smiled as he handed him a Communicator and proudly said, "Yep. Congratulations. You're now an honorary Titan."
Zatara took the Communicator and was almost speechless as he stared at it and excitedly said, "Awesome!"
Raven narrowed her eyes with a serious expression as she said, "But that doesn't mean that you're on our team or moving into the Tower."
Zatara smiled as he put the Communicator in his pocket and respectfully said, "That's okay. I've changed my mind about joining you guys anyway."
Beast Boy was surprised as he said, "You have?"
Starfire was confused as she pointed her finger as she said, "But the reason you came here was because you wanted to be one of us. Was it not?"
Zatara looked at all of them as he honestly said, "Yeah, I did want to be one of you. But the truth is I only really wanted to be on your team was because I thought it would make me better. I thought being a Teen Titan would make me good enough to be a true hero."
The others' eyes widened in shock as Raven said, "Wow."
Zatara smiled proudly as he said, "But now I see that I don't need to be one of you to be great. I just need to try my best, work hard, and not give up. And you guys don't need me on your team, you're already awesome enough without me. And if any of you guys ever need my help you all know how to reach me."
Robin smiled as he walked to Zatara and placed his left hand on Zatara's right shoulder and said, "Thanks Zatara. We'll be happy to fight beside you anytime. And if you ever need our help just give us a call."
Zatara smiled as he solemnly said, "I will."
Robin turned and started walking away while Starfire, Cyborg, and Beast Boy followed him, but Raven stayed behind.
She walked up to Zatara and solemnly said, "You may be a pain, but you're a pretty great guy. And a good friend."
He was flattered as he smiled and said, "Thanks Raven. You're pretty cool too."
Raven turned and started walking away to join the others when Zatara then said, "One more thing."
She stopped and curiously turned back to him, and he smiled egotistically as he pulled out his wand and said, "If you ever need any good magic lessons, just stop by at my place and I'll show you cool tricks. Bye!"
He waved his wand and magically disappeared in a puff of smoke, Raven was mildly annoyed but cocked half a smile as she shook her head with her eyes closed. She then started walking again as she followed her friends as they all happily headed home together.

Author's note: Now the Titans have a new honorary member, and a magical one. Someone suggested that I put Zatara in one of my Teen Titans seasons and I thought it'd make for a good filler episode. It seemed best to make Mumbo the villain, we'd definitely see some funny and weird things happen. I could also picture Zatara using illusions to show off and make some funny things happen, like when he made Beast Boy and Raven look like each other. It was a pain having to write some words backwards when Zatara would cast certain spells. I also thought it would be fun to make some "Aladdin" references. The next chapter will be a main episode and we'll see Blackfire again. Please review.
