Chapter 5
"We're finally here!" Ellie exclaimed
The small group made their way through the thick forest, and thanks to the Samurai's help they finally made it to Pewter city. Ash ran up ahead climbing a large rock seeing the view of the town before him.
"Yay, pewter city!" Misty cheerfully said
"Whew, i thought i was going to be stuck in that forest for the rest of my life." Ash said with a sigh of relief.
"It only took us a few days, occasionally stopping for breaks and some training." Ellie said, smiling , snapping a picture of the town. "Although I would've liked it if you trained with me, Ash."
"Nah, I'll be fine Me and Pikachu can handle anything." Ash said fully confident.
"Oh yeah? Tell that to Pikachu." Ellie said, cocking her head towards the yellow mouse pokemon.
"Chu." Pikachu said, letting out a tired sigh.
"Eev." Eevee said sitting down next to pikachu.
"Pewter city is gray, the color of stone." A male voice said
The trio looked down over the giant rock seeing the male with a beard wearing a sleeveless shirt, brown cargo pants and a red Beanie sitting in an Indian position.
"This town is famous for its stones." He continued.
"Who's this old guy?" Ash asked
"Never met him." Misty said
"I don't know."Ellie replied
" The name's Flint." He said "And you're sitting on some of my merchandise, young man."
"Oh, sorry!" Ash apologetically said as he quickly got up.
"So...you sell all of these rocks?" Ellie asked, looking at the array of oddly shaped rocks marked at different prices.
"They're pewter city souvenirs, wanna buy some? " Flint asked
"No thank you." Ellie said
"No thanks, I'm traveling trying to become a pokemon trainer!" Ash proudly said
"Uh-huh." Flint said, looking at Ash then at Pikachu. "Well your pokemon sure looks worn out, why don't you follow me? I'll show you to the pokemon center."
"See? Looks can be deceiving, he looks like a nice guy." Ash said, tilting his head towards the two girls.
"Are you sure?" Misty silently questioned.
"We should be careful...but then again he looks harmless." Ellie quietly said to Misty.
Flint walked back, putting his hand out. "By the way that'll be a two dollar charge for resting on my rocks " he said it left the group a little stunned at it.
Moments later thanks to Flint they made it to the pokemon center.
Ash carried a tray that had two different pokeballs and right next was pikachu looking very tired.
Ellie held her tray with the different colored pokeballs that held her pokemon inside as well as Her Eevee right next to them.
"Please revitalize my pokemon." The two said simultaneously.
"Sure, Right away Ash and Ellie." Nurse Joy cheerfully said, smiling at the two young trainers.
"Huh? Nurse joy? But this isn't Viridian city." Ash said seemingly confused.
"The Joy in Viridian city is my little sister, I'm the older Joy, i've heard nice things about you two." She said
"Uh, thank you." Ash said
"Thanks." Ellie said, smiling at the nurse.
"Have you both seen that poster?" She said as she left to do her other duties.
The two trainers looked at the poster near the phone booths. Announcing the pokemon league.
"The Pokémon Regional League championship!" Ash said smiling feeling motivated. "Alright!"
"Ha!" Misty said, turning her head while reading the poster. "To compete you need to beat Gym trainers from different towns and get their badges as proof."
"I know that. " Ellie said " I hope I have a good shot at winning my first badge."
"Oh, i'm sure you can win unlike Ash you've been training with your pokemon since we left the forest." Misty said "But the question is can he win?"
"Of course I can!" Ash said
"Haha." Flint appeared giving off a dry laugh. "Don't tell me you plan on challenging Brock the pewter city Gym leader? "
"Of course i do!" Ash said "As soon as Pilachu and my other pokemon are better i'll have no problem! Take me to Brock's gym! I'll beat him!"
Flint chuckled. "You'll beat him?" He said letting out another dry laugh leaving the trio going back to his shop.
A while later the trio went to have lunch at the center.
"That Flint! Trying to make a fool out of me!" Ash grudgingly said while eating his food in a hurry.
"Um Ash…"Ellie said as she finished her meal. " It's just that gym battles are different from regular pokemon battles."
"She's right, do you really think you can win?" Misty asked, "Gym leaders are much tougher!"
Ash continued eating while half listening to the girls.
"Why don't we take a few days to stay here and train so you can go face Brock? " Ellie said "I'll help you out."
"I think that's a great idea! In fact if you ask me really nicely i'll help you out too." Misty said
Ash looked at them for a second then continued eating. "I don't need any help." He said with his mouth full, making both girls upset.
"Oh I see..." Ellie said, getting up from her seat. "No matter what I say you don't want any help!"
"That's fine by me! There's no way you'll beat Brock at the pewter city gym!" Misty said
Ellie and Misty left leaving Ash with the lunch bill, Ellie let out a huff crossing her arms over her chest.
'It'd be easier if he lets me help him train,'She thought. 'That's what friends do and it's crucial for a beginner trainer.'
"Here you go Ellie, Eevee and your other pokemon are in full health." Nurse Joy said
"Thank you Nurse Joy." Ellie said
"I can't believe him!" Misty said, walking with Ellie around the small town.
"I know, he's too stubborn." Ellie said
"Eev." Eevee said as she was on her trainer's shoulder.
"Misty, i'm going to the pewter gym wanna come along?" Ellie asked, "I'm going to challenge Brock."
"Sure." The redhead said
Twenty minutes later they were in front of the Gym, the design was a big stone building to match how the town is. Ellie felt her heart pounding as she held her camera taking a picture of the gym. She opened the door walking inside with Misty behind her.
"Hello? Is Brock here?" Ellie asked
"Who goes there?" A voice said the room lit up revealing a young man sitting in a metitaded position, Ellie guessed that he could be around fifteen years old.
"I'm Ellie from Pallet town. You must be Brock the gym leader, I challenge you to a match!" She said.
"Eev!" Her Eevee exclaimed
"Is this your first gym match?" He continued talking. "A gym match is different from other battles; this match is for pokémon league authorization, there are special rules."
"Yes, it's my first gym match." Ellie said "I've already studied the rules from the pokemon league rule book, so please name the conditions of this match."
Brock nodded. "You know the rules? That's good it saves me time explaining them." Brock said standing up he looked at Her Eevee. "We each use two pokemon, so let the match begin!" He snapped his fingers as the floor shook, Ellie looked at the floor in front of her moving, making it into a jagged rock field.
"Go geodude!" Brock said, throwing his pokéball as it opened revealing what looked like a Rock with arms.
"Geodude!" It said.
'The Rumors are true he uses rock pokémon!' Ellie thought 'My first choice is an easy one.'
"Ok, Let's go Bulbasaur!" Ellie said, throwing her pokéball.
Meanwhile Misty watched at the sidelines.
"She picked bulbasaur to fight, She'll have the advantage." Misty said "Go Ellie!" She cheered
The young trainer smiled while her bulbasaur faced the rock pokémon.
"Geodude use Tackle!" Brock said
"Bulbasaur dodge it! And use vine whip!" Ellie said
Just as they said the rock pokémon went in for the first move but missed while Bulbasaur used its vine whip attack dealing a direct hit but it didn't faint.
"That was a direct hit! Unless...of course! Some rock pokemon have special abilities! It must have used its ability!" Ellie said Brock nodded.
"Yes, Geodude has that special ability called Sturdy, even with that direct hit it toughed it out. Now Geodude!" Brock exclaimed "Use rock throw!"
"Geodude!" Geodude said throwing rocks at the grass pokémon didn't have time to dodge dealing with a hit.
"Bulbasaur!" Ellie worriedly said "You okay buddy?!"
"B...bulba!" Bulbasaur reassured the trainer.
"Ok! Try another vine whip attack!" She said as it did another hit causing it to faint.
"Great job! Bulbasaur!"
Brock called back Geodude in its Pokéball. "Go Onix!" He said
A pokémon appeared in the form of a giant chain of gray boulders that became smaller towards the tail.
"An Onix?" Ellie said, taking out her pokédex.
" Onix the rock/ground type pokémon As it grows, the stone portions of its body harden to become similar to a diamond, but colored black." The pokédex said
"Bulbasaur, wanna keep going?" Ellie called her pokémon.
"Bulba!" The grass type nodded, determined to fight.
"Begin!"
Misty's P.o.v.
Picking Bulbasaur helped her odds! I stood there watching the match. For a beginner trainer she's doing an okay job.
"Onyx Bind it!" Brock exclaimed.
Onyx wrapped its tail around bulbasaur causing the grass type to squirm and shout in pain.
"Bulbasaur!" Ellie exclaimed in a panic.
"Do you give up?" Brock asked
Ellie looked at her pokemon struggling in Onyx's grasp. I don't want her to lose.
"Don't give up!" I cheered. "You can still win!"
End of P.o.v.
Ellie bit her bottom lip, seeing her pokemon squirm. She swiftly called out the next attack "Bulbasaur Sleep powder!"
Bulbasaur let out a pale blue shimmering powder out of its bulb, spraying it in Onyx's face, making it yawn, stumble, falling sleep. Bulbasaur got free while Ellie cheered.
"Great job Bulbasaur!" She said
Brock stared at the young trainer, he raised an eyebrow at her. He lost this match to her so he called back his pokemon and presented the boulder badge to her.
"We did it!" Ellie smiled holding the badge. "We got the boulder badge!"
"Eev!" Eevee exclaimed
"Bulba!" Bulbasaur said
"For a beginner trainer you did good by gathering the information needed and picking the right pokémon to go against mine." Brock said "Train even harder now."
Ellie nodded. "Now a picture to commemorate our first badge!" She said holding her camera up facing her pokemon and herself snapping the picture. She thanked Brock for a great battle.
After that Ellie and Misty left the Rock gym.
"I'm so happy for you Ellie! Not many trainers get their first gym badge on their very first try." Misty said
"Thanks! I can't believe it either! I hope Ash wins his badge." Ellie said
"I don't think he can win if he picks pikachu to battle. You saw his Pokémon, none of them will stand a chance against Brock." Misty said a matter of factly. "It also teaches him that when someone offers him help that he should take it."
"You're partly right." Ellie said as the duo left the gym, celebrating Ellie's first victory over ice cream. "I also know that Ash is very stubborn to accept help when it comes to it."
"How long have you known Ash?" Misty asked
"Five years." Ellie answered "I lived at my family's berry farm, we currently have two large farms one in Kanto and Johto i have other relatives planning to expand them to other regions, My dad runs the branch at pallet town with my mom so we moved there. My aunt runs the second one in Johto. After the move i met Ash and we became good friends"
Misty nodded, Ellie looked at her Eevee. "Ash is very stubborn and a hot headed trainer, there are times that he drives me crazy but he's a very nice guy and great friend."
"So you liiike him?" Misty teased
Ellie shook her head. "No, I love him like a little brother." She replied
"Little brother? Aren't you the same age?" Misty asked
"Actually im older than him, my birthday is in a few months. " Ellie said "I was supposed to have started my journey a year ago, i decided against it because i wanted to start my journey with my friend, and Eevee had been born at that time so i wanted to wait until she felt ready to travel."
"Oh you had her since she was a baby?" Misty asked
"Yep, from my Parents they have a Jolteon and a Flareon." Ellie explained while petting her Eevee.
"Wow." Misty said as she finished her ice cream. After a few minutes the water trainer got up.
"I'll go take a walk." Misty said
Ellie smirked."You're going to find Ash aren't you?"
Misty froze while Blushing. "I'm only going because i'm worried about Pikachu!"
"Yeah you are." Ellie teased
Ellie went back to the pokemon center, using the phones to call her parents.
"Ellie! " her mother said she turned her head."Honey! Its Ellie!" Her father jumped out of his seat smiling happily.
"Hi mom, Dad." Ellie said smiling "I got my first badge!" She showed them her boulder badge.
"That's great sweetheart!" Her mom said
"That's my girl! " he said, waving a victory flag.
"I've even caught a few pokemon using the new pokeballs ." Ellie said "And i took amazing pictures!"
"I'll tell Sis that." Her father said "She already sent us some more so let us know in your next stop at the pokemon center to send them."
"Really? Wow, tell her that she's an awesome Aunt! So the next gym is in Cerulean city, so I'll call you when I get there." Ellie said
"All right sweetheart." Her mom said smiling. "Be careful, Love you."
"Love you, very much!" Her father exclaimed in the background.
After Ellie hung up she felt more motivated than ever, she looked at Eevee who was smiling at her, the young trainer went outside, holding her pokeballs.
"Okay guys come on out!" Ellie exclaimed, the three pokeballs opened up letting out her other pokemon Sandshrew, Bulbasaur and Metapod.
Ellie smiled at them."The next gym we'll be going to is in Cerulean city, we'll train and do our best to win our next badge!"
Her pokemon cheered in excitement. "Today we'll rest up and tomorrow we'll travel. " Ellie said
