Nya POV: It took us several hours to fix Zane, but around 11:30 we managed to finish and went to bed. I think Kai got back a little before we finished because I could hear him in the shower. I was still concerned about him despite what he said. I might corner him tomorrow to get the real truth, but no point in worrying about it now. He was right about sleep, and I crashed as soon as I hit the pillow.

I felt so much better in the morning, feeling so refreshed and well rested. I did some quick stretches and changed into something light on and went to the kitchen.

The others were already there and eating, everyone except Kai. But he needs some extra sleep so I let him be for now.

Zane saw me and said, "Morning Nya."

"Morning. How are you feeling?" I asked, grabbing a bowl of cereal.

"I'm feeling much better, thank you." he answered, smiling at me.

"Next time let's not do anything until we're sure nothing like that will happen again." Jay stated, and I completely agree with him.

"I'm in favor of that." Zane said, and I chuckled softly.

"At least you didn't have to patrol, which is nice." Lloyd said, finishing his breakfast.

"Yeah, but I do feel bad for making Kai do it, since it's his turn tonight." Zane said, getting Cole to look at him.

"Kai took over for you? I thought it was Jay." Cole said, sounding concerned.

"No, I was helping Nya." Jay said, confused as was I.

"Um… uh." Now he was looking guilty.

"What?" I asked, knowing Cole probably did something.

"Kai may have patrolled for me the day before." He said, and that made me feel guilty.

"Really? Why?" I asked, but I immediately remembered the date, "Oh."

"Yeah." he looked away and Lloyd patted his shoulder in comfort.

"Don't feel too bad, dude. He also covered for me before you. So I'm also at fault." Jay said, and we shared a look with the others before we all sighed.

It wasn't the first time Kai covered multiple times in a row because of our poor planning. We tried to let him know he didn't have to, but it barely worked given his personality.

After eating in silence and Lloyd cleaning ip Zane said, "He needs to rest and relax, I'll take his shift tonight since I was supposed to yesterday."

"Agreed, but he should be awake by now…" Lloyd said, and I shared that concern.

"I'll check him, be right back." I said, leaving immediately.

I walked up to his day and gently knocked on his door. And he didn't respond, but that didn't really surprise me knowing that covered patrols for so long.

I opened the door and said, "Kai?"

His back was facing me and he pulled the blanket tightly around him. And I could swear he was shivering. I walked up to him and was about to shake him awake, but the second I touched him I was surprised by how warm he was.

And he woke up when I gasped by his heat and said, "Nya?" His voice was very raspy and dry.

"Kai? Why do you feel so warm?" I asked, and he turned onto his back.

He could barely open his eyes and he looked so confused and really pale and sweaty, and panting slightly. "I don't feel warm at all."

He pulled the blanket up and was about to turn back over, but I held him back and felt his forehead. He was really warm.

"Stay still." I ordered, and grabbed the thermometer.

He listened to me, though he did look like he was going back to sleep, and carefully put it in his mouth. His temperature was 112. Kai was naturally warm due to his fire, so that high wasn't fatal but it was still bad.

"Oh Kai…" I moaned, and he seemed to sink under his blanket.

I sighed softly and put it down before asking, "How long have you been sick?"

He didn't answer at first, just sinked even more. And then it clicked for me.

"You got sick the day you covered for Jay." He looked away, and I felt so guilty now.

I know Jay told him where we were going, and I know that Kai knew I've always wanted to go there. This was the reason he covered for Jay. And he would never let Cole go on the anniversary of his mother's death, if anything so he wouldn't get distracted and hurt if he fought. And I asked him to cover for Zane because we had to work on him. I saw how pale he was last night and yet I asked him to go. I should have made him stay and made Jay go instead.

"Please… don't blame yourself…" Kai said, shaking me out of my self-blame. But he started coughing violently.

I gently helped him up and patted his back until he was done. Once he finished he leaned against me, laying his head on my shoulder. His eyes were closed and he was panting even more.

"Do you want to lay back down?" I asked, getting ready to help him.

But he shook his head and tried to stand up. I immediately moved in front of him, but he still managed to stand up despite how shaky he was.

"What are you doing?" I was surprised he was able to stand right now.

"I… have to patrol tonight." he answered, and tried to walk to the door.

But he was too weak and his knees gave out. I caught him, but we both still went to the ground. He tried to get up, but he couldn't and I held him up as much as I could.

"Kai, you can't. You're sick, really sick and you need to rest." I said, gently.

He groaned softly, like want to fight back. But he gave up and laid his head on my shoulder before saying, "Fine."

I nodded and helped him up, which wasn't easy. Just like getting back into bed was, but we did it. I covered him with a couple of blankets and made sure a trash bin was available for him.

"I'll be right back with some medicine and cold compress, so hang in there okay?" I said, a little worried.

He nodded slightly, clearly worn out by all that. I left and quickly ran to the kitchen. The others were finished and cleaning up, and Zane was the first one to see me.

"Is he awake?" he asked, catching the others' attention.

"Yeah, for now." I answered, going over to the medicine cabinet.

"What's wrong?" Zane asked, concerned.

"He's really sick, and has been sick since he covered for Jay." I said, rubbing my eyes.

The others stopped what they were doing and stared at me. And I gathered all the medicine I could find.

"It was raining that night and the night after." Jay whispered, covering his mouth a little.

"Not to mention how cold the wind was last night." Cole stated, looking really guilty now.

"How bad is he?" Zane asked, as he started to fill a bowl of water.

"He has a fever of 112, really weak, and most likely has a huge headache given his fever." I said, but I didn't know how bad it really was.

"Alright." He said, and looked at the others. They nodded in agreement.

"We'll take turns with everything so you don't have to worry about it. And let's know if you need any help." Cole said, with the others nodded.

I smiled at them and said thank you before going back with Zane right behind me. Kai was sitting up with the bin in his arms, panting heavily.

I immediately set the meds down and sat next to him. But it looked like he was done, and still suffering because of it. Zane just prepared some for him and sat on his other side.

I gently took the bin from his arms and asked, "Are you finally better?"

"I… think I'm not feeling… good." He mumbled, squeezing his eyes shut.

I laughed quietly and said, "We have some medicine for you. You'll start to get better once."

He nodded slightly and Zane helped him with that as I took the bin to clean it out. I wasn't really grossed out, since we often had to take care of each other as kids. But I was worried by how bad he was, and the fact that he admitted he was sick. He usually has to be back into a corner before he would agree to rest.

I sighed and went back. Zane helped him change into something that wasn't sweaty and was getting him settled in. I set the bin back to its place and prepared the compress.

"Kai, can you list your symptoms?" Zane asked, finishing with him.

He was clearly tired and could barely keep his eyes open but he said, "Headache,... sore… and dizzy."

Zane nodded and I placed the compress on his head. He closed his eyes and relaxed a little when I did and I said, "Just rest, brother. We'll take care of you."

He nodded a bit and quickly fell asleep. We waited a little bit, just to make sure he would be able to get comfortable. And once he was clearly sleeping we left.

I hope he'll get better soon.
