Even though the funeral was over and his job to support his girlfriend was over, Max didn't need to go to Hilton Head Inn for another five days and he didn't need to go back to Spoonerville because he had packed everything he needed for there as well as Haddock Village so he decided to stay with Lisa for the rest of the week. He stayed for two reasons. The first one was that was to make sure she was nice and settled in Haddock Village with her grandmother and the second one was because now she was living there permanently and they wouldn't be able to continue the relationship once he got on the train. None of them believed a long-distance relationship would work, but they were glad that they could remain good friends and keep in contact by phone or letter. For Max, it was losing Roxanne again, but at least they still kept in contact by letter and phone. The difference was that he knew that Lisa had to leave Spoonerville and he still had time to spend with her before he had to leave her whereas Roxanne leaving Spoonerville was a complete and utter shock to him (and her) because she had to leave immediately. At least, for Lisa, it wasn't like losing Chad. She would miss Max an awful lot and she would do all she could to keep in contact with him whenever she could, whereas she never missed Chad since she found out about him cheating on her. She was never ever going to miss him and she felt better for him being out of his life.

During the week, Max and Lisa did many things together. The day after the funeral, it was a lovely warm day, so they went to Haddock Village Park to relax and have a lovely picnic. They were accompanied by her grandmother, who helped to make it. In fact, Lisa went on to say that her grandmother and grandfather took her on many picnics when she stayed over with them and that was how she learned to make the excellent picnics Max enjoyed with her.

Then the day after that Lisa went for a job interview at the village's five-star hotel. It was so she could earn enough money to pay for college and to support her grandmother. She applied for the job to be a waitress in the hotel's restaurant and the manager was so impressed with her interview she got the job. Later that night, Max and Lisa's grandmother took her out for a meal in the restaurant her grandparents usually took her out when she stayed with them to celebrate her getting the job.

Then the day after that, one of Lisa's grandfather's friends invited Max, Lisa and her grandmother to join him in his boat on Big Stone Lake as it was another nice warm day. Max, wearing his light blue swim shorts, and Lisa, wearing her yellow bikini, did many fun activities like water-skiing, wakeboarding and parasailing. After all those fun activities, they had a barbeque near the lake for dinner during the lovely warm beautiful sunset. Happy tears came out of Lisa's eyes as this reminded her of all the good times she had with her grandfather when he was alive.

Then on the last day before Max had to catch the train to Hilton Head Inn, he, Lisa and her grandmother checked out the new big Haddock Village Water Park. Lisa's grandmother was happy to sit on the plastic sun lounger and look after the bags while Lisa, wearing her purple bikini bra and pink briefs, and Max, wearing his green swim shorts, checked out every massive and thrilling slide and the vast wave pool and the large lazy river. Then after their fun-filled day, they went out to a different restaurant which none of them had been to and Max and Lisa used their last relationship meal to celebrate making it one of the happiest and healthiest relationships both of them had ever been in during their lives.

And every evening, Max and Lisa had sex in her bedroom. They knew their relationship was coming to the end, though it was no fault of their own, and so they decided to make the most out of it using what little time they had, just like Max made the most of the little time he had in his and Roxanne's relationship when he helped her pack her stuff and put it in her dad's car and giving her one last hug and kiss before she and her dad drove away.

Then the day finally came when it was time for Max to leave Lisa in Haddock Village. He and Lisa were waiting on the small platform at the village's small train station.

"Max, my life would not have changed for the better if I didn't have the wonderful relationship with you," Lisa said. "Being your girlfriend has been the best thing ever in my life. So thank you very much for all you've done for me."

"No problem, Lisa," Max said. "And thank you for being my amazing girlfriend when you did. You've changed my life for the better too."

Then she broke down into tears. "I don't want you to go, Max. I don't want this wonderful relationship to be end. If my college would have accepted you –"

"I know, Lisa. I know." Then Max hugged her, with tears coming out of his eyes himself. "I don't want this relationship to end as well. But I'm sure a nice and beautiful lady such as yourself will find another guy in no time."

"No, it will take time," Lisa said. "Because there's only one of you, Max Goof. There will be another one like you. You are truly one of a kind."

"As are you, Lisa."

Then there was a train horn and Max and Lisa saw the train arriving at the train station.

Max sighed. "Well, I'm sorry, Lisa, but the time is now. Once again, thank you so much for being a wonderful girlfriend."

"You're very more than welcome, Max," Lisa said. "And once again thank you for being the best boyfriend in the world."

Then they hugged and gave each other one last kiss before Max boarded the train. Lisa was about to walk away when –

"Lisa!"

She turned and saw Max at a train window and he was holding his arm out. She ran to him, held it and didn't let go of it until the train started to move.

"Goodbye, Lisa," Max said.

She kept running on the platform until there was no more to run so she could keep her eyes on Max as much as she could. When couldn't run anymore, she waved to him, who waved back to her, until he and the train was out of sight. More tears came out of Lisa eyes as she watched him vanish. "Goodbye, Max." Then she slowly and sadly made her way out of the train station.
