As the time turner began to work Hermione felt a great pull across her entire body. This was different from the mild, almost, electrical caress, she remembered from using the time turner back when she was at school, this was far more intense, and it was getting worse.
With-in a heartbeat of starting an immense pressure began to rob the breath from her lungs, the pull becoming like a vice, squeezing her body relentlessly as she was dragged back through time. She began to panic as pain filled her entire being, she'd had no idea it could be like this, she vaguely thought she should have done the hops a few years at a time, and not in one big leap, but now it was too late. A kaleidoscope of colour filled her vision, as her head began to feel like it would explode, yet still she felt herself falling. I'm going to die, she thought in terror, until finally, mercifully, she blacked out.
She awoke to the sound of voices, stifling a groan she took note of her surroundings. She was still in the Shrieking Shack, and despite a headache that could fell a wild elephant, she was still alive – the question she now had was, when?
She was about to move when she heard the voices again, she blinked, was that Harry's voice? She moved carefully, until her head was next to a small hole in the wall, she slowly placed an eye at the dusty opening and almost gasped in shock. For there in the room next to hers was herself, Ron, and Harry, all gathered around a bloody and dying figure. Harry was leaning over the figure shielding his face, leaning down as if listening to something. He leaned back suddenly a small flask in his hands, it was then that Hermione realised exactly when and where she was. She'd somehow managed to land herself right in the middle of the battle for Hogwarts, and she'd just come across her teenage self, along with Ron and Harry, collecting a dying Snapes memories.
She sat back, her hand to her mouth in shock, trying to control her breathing, no-one must know she was here, it could destroy the very timeline she was in. She waited, silently listening until -after what seemed like an age - she finally heard her former self and her friends move outside, unable to hide her curiosity anymore she quickly stood and went into the other room, she had to make sure she was right.
Snape lay there, his face pallid, his body surrounded by pooling blood. She looked into his glassy eyes, and was surprised to see a slight contraction of the pupil.
"Oh my god, you're still alive!" she gasped.
Her mind in shock she automatically thought of the cure, but would it work on so many bites? Without a second thought she opened her magically enhanced bag, she had to try, despite everything, with-out Severus Snape Harry never could have defeated Voldemort, she owed him his chance.
"Accio Nagini cure, Accio Blood replenishing potion," she said quickly.
As each of the potions flew into her hands, she quickly set her bag and wand down beside her then proceeded to administer each of the potions.
Snapes bleeding slowed, most of his wounds beginning to close, she held another blood replenishing potion to his lips, and this time, instead of her having to pour it down his throat forcefully, he actually drank it through a semi-conscious daze.
Hermione sat back on her haunches and picked up the empty containers, placing them carefully in her bag she began to think.
She'd just done something incredibly stupid; Severus Snape had died during the battle for Hogwarts, and she might have just saved him, thus polluting the timeline, which could have untold disastrous effects.
A frown creased her forehead, but we never found his body, we just assumed that like several others, the spiders had dragged it away to consume. She thought to herself as she remembered back to the search for the bodies of the fallen over several days after the battle.
"I could take him with me when I go get Sirius, then we could all go back to the future together and the timeline would become stable again." She muttered aloud as she stared back down at the bloodied man.
A large explosion echoed through the shattered window and a bright light lit the sky. I have to get us out of here first, c'mon Hermione, it's time to start getting your arse into gear. She quickly grabbed her bag and wand then took Snapes arm and disapparated. She reappeared by the river where she, Ron, and Harry had once camped so long ago.
Taking out a new tent she quickly set it up then proceeded to surround the area with muggle repelling spells, once she was satisfied, she went back to Snape, who still seemed to be stable, but unconscious.
She gave a quick flick of her wand, "Locomotor Snape." Snapes body rose as she guided him into her tent. This tent, unlike the last one she'd been in so long ago, had a few extra luxuries, and it didn't smell of Cat urine, which was always a plus.
Hermione had known she'd need accommodation to do what she need to do, so she'd bought herself a small two-bedroom tent accordingly.
Thinking she might be alone with Sirius for a short time she'd had some extra comforts added – just in case, like a jacuzzi, and a large two-person shower, along with a deluxe kitchen, which, luckily, she'd stocked with fresh food last night.
She guided Snapes prone form to the second bedroom and placed him on a bed. Once he was settled she stripped him of his robe, she needed to see what damage the snake had done. She was quite surprised as she gazed down at him, she'd always thought of Snape as skinny and "weedy," but rather than that he had the body of a distance runny, lean, but with surprising musculature, this was – surprising. She blushed a little as she realized she was evaluating more than Snapes wounds, nothing wrong with a quick peek, she told herself.
Giving herself a quick mental shake before she got too caught up in her "exploring", she became more clinical, and started to examine his wounds with care as she cleared the blood away.
The snake seemed to have struck him at least five times, and although the wounds seemed to have closed to about a third of their initial size, they were still weeping blood, and that was a problem.
She only had one more blood replenishing potion left, and that would be gone as soon as she bandaged him and set him to rest. She needed to go to Saint Mungo's for more of the cure. Taking a deep breath, she cleaned the wounds with some dittany and then proceeded to tear up his robe and use it as bandages. After she was finally satisfied, she poured some more potion down his throat and left for the hospital.
Chaos, word was out about the fight for Hogwarts, and when Hermione entered the hospitals foyer, people were milling everywhere. Some people demanding patients be let out to come home, and some of the wounded from Hogwarts, already starting to arrive for treatment, even as she knew, the battle still raged.
Hermione knew the sheer chaos could work in her favour if she played it right. She spotted Augustus Pye examining a girl with a blackened curse wound in her side, Hermione recognised her as a Ravenclaw fifth year. She quickly ran to the Doctor, a plan already formulating in her head.
"Doctor, I'm from the battle, we need your help for the front line."
The Doctor turned to her. "Who are you? Do you know what's happening?"
"Big fight," Hermione gasped as if out of breath. "Voldemort and his people have invaded Hogwarts, there's a lot of casualties, and there will be more with-out that antidote to stabilise some people. He's brought along that huge snake that bit Aurthur Weasley, and if he lets it loose people will be bitten. Please Doctor, I need to get back there, people are relying on me, and you!" She said urgently.
"Hermione? Hermione Granger?" asked the half dead girl before she passed out.
"Poor things delirious," said Hermione sadly. "Doctor, please, the antidote, and some blood restorer as well, if you have any to spare."
Augustus Pye nodded, he called over a nurse and told her to go get the antidote and some blood restorer then he continued to work, moving from one casualty to the next as Hermione waited. Finally, the nurse returned with two bottles.
"Is this what you wanted? We can only spare one of the cures as we only have two bottles in stock, and we're going to need every bottle of blood restorative potion we can get once more of the casualties start to arrive."
Hermione thanked her, this would have to do, although she thought the extra bottle of the cure would finally fix Snapes wounds, she didn't think his blood would be fully replenished, she might have to wait until she arrived back to get Sirius to get another bottle, either that or Snape would have to recover naturally.
She hurried outside and into a nearby alley where she disapparated and went back to her tent.
After giving Snape the extra antidote, she waited half an hour, in which time she paced the room restlessly, when she finally thought enough time had passed, she rechecked his wounds and found to her relief, that they'd finally closed completely. She let out a long breath as her pent-up tension finally left her and quickly poured the last of the blood replenishing potion down his throat, luckily, even though unconscious he still managed to swallow it all. Finally, she sat back, happy knowing that at least now, it wasn't going to be leaking straight back out again.
Speaking of which, she looked at the blood-soaked bedding and screwed up her nose, she knew her job wasn't yet done, she still had to clean him up. The smell of dried blood had become quite nauseating.
She raised her wand, "Locomotion Snape," she said quietly. When his body rose, she gently moved it to the side, then proceeded to clean the sheets and mattress, once she was finished, she stripped Snape completely and used a quick scourgifying spell to clean his body, it was a little rough, but he was clean. She then settled him back on the mattress, whilst taking a leisurely peek at his "goodies." Hermione didn't much care that this was a little "bad girl", not to mention a complete invasion of his privacy, the thing was, she'd only ever seen Ron naked, and now she wanted to, well, comparison shop, even if it was a little pervy.
She told herself that she was owed this, she'd saved Snapes life, despite the fact that the man had only ever been a nasty wanker to her and her friends when she was at school, so she looked her fill.
"Granger?" Hermione looked up from where her interested eyes had travelled.
"Is that you? What the hell are you doing." Asked Snape angrily.
"Saving your miserable hide it seems Severus, now just relax and sleep, you need your rest."
"What have you done?" asked Snape angrily, "and more to the point, why are you so much older than when I last saw you?"
"Because I am a lot older than when you last saw me, I'm 42 to be exact, now be a good boy and rest, I'll fill you in on everything that's happened a little later, but in the meantime, I have to get you ready to travel as soon as possible, and that means you have to relax, sleep, recover."
Snape glared at her, clearly wanting to add more to his diatribe, but his eyes seemed to close against his will and soon he was fast asleep again.
Hermione took Snapes ruined clothes outside and burned them, she then went back inside and had a quick shower and something to eat, she then set about doing her calculations for the next jump. Now that she knew the exact date, and how many turns of her time-turner that she'd had to use, this next jump should be far more precise. Luckily Snape slept through it all as she worked, but she still kept a close eye on him, grateful that the wounds Nagini had inflicted now seemed thoroughly healed, and Snape seemed to have regained a little colour. It wasn't until later that evening that he awoke again.
Hermione rubbed her tired eyes and decided it was past time for some dinner, she sat beside Snape for most of the afternoon as she worked through her calculations, just as she put down her notebook she heard,
"Granger, so I didn't dream you?"
Hermione looked over to see Snapes pallid face looking at her.
"How are you feeling?" she asked.
Snape gave a weak shrug, "Better, the pain is gone, but I feel as weak as a newborn kitten."
Hermione nodded, "I think a little weakness after scratching at deaths door for a while is to be expected. I'm glad the pain is gone, the last time I checked you your bite marks seem to have healed completely. Unfortunately, I've got no more blood replenishing potion to give you, so you'll just have to persevere for the moment."
At her words Snape looked down at himself, lifting the sheet to check his wounds, after a minute he let them drop and went brick red.
"I'm; naked!"
Hermione looked at him.
"Yes?"
"You undressed me?" he asked going even redder.
Hermione looked at him, surprised at his reaction.
"Of course, I did, I had to undress you to treat your wounds, then I had to cut up your robe to bandage them while I went to get yet another dose of medicine to stop you from bleeding to death. After that I had to clean all the blood off of both you and the bed, it looked and smelt revolting."
"But . . . "
Hermione shook her head, "Oh for goodness' sake, I'm forty-two years old Severus, believe it or not, I have seen a penis before." She said blandly, knowing full well that she'd never let him know that Rons was the only other male appendage that she had to compare his to.
"Now, are you up to having something to eat? I thought we could both do with a decent meal and a good night's sleep before we continue this little adventure."
Snape nodded dumbly, wanting nothing more than a little privacy to come to terms with what one Hermione Granger had done to him. He was still alive, despite being more than ready to die, added to that, he could distinctly recall waking to find his saviour staring at his dick, and that memory, more than anything else, was putting him on edge.
Hermione retreated to the kitchen and heated up a lasagne, she put a little salad with it and took both meals into Snapes room.
She helped to prop him up and set a small table down in front of him with his meal atop it.
"The fight?" asked Snape as he took a weary bite.
Hermione sighed, then filled him in on every gory detail that she could remember as they ate, when she was finished both of them were exhausted, him physically, her emotionally.
"How did you get here?" asked Snape as she took his plate and he relaxed back against his pillow.
"I made a time turner, a super one if you will."
Snape frowned, "Voldemort?"
"As I said, dead, Harry definitely finished him, and I used his Horcruxes to make the time turner."
Snape stared at her; he was clearly exhausted but continued his questioning.
"Why? Why come back and save me?"
Hermione blushed. "Truthfully, that was a bit of an accident, I was intending to go back and save Harry's godfather Sirius, but I had to make a guesstimate of the turns of the hourglass, and I was slightly off."
Snape flushed, "So, how do you know my missing body won't contaminate the timeline," he snapped.
Hermione's lips shaped into a perfect moue before she said, "well, to be honest, we never found your body. After the battle we searched for days, but the spiders had carted off quite a few of the dead that were never recovered, we just thought you must have been one of them."
Snape's eyes blinked several times, as tiredness overwhelmed him, Hermione saw him struggling.
"Sleep now, tomorrow we'll talk some more, because after breakfast, well be moving on to find Sirius.
Snape tried to protest but his eyelids seemed to disobey his mind, and soon he was fast asleep again.
"So far, so good." Said Hermione.
She looked at the hourglass around her neck, she frowned slightly, were there more red sprinkles than before? She grabbed their plates and wandered back out to the kitchen, time for worrying tomorrow, tonight she needed to sleep.
The next morning she moved Snape outside before he was awake, she then removed all the charms she had around the camp site and packed up the tent, it was only when she was ready to use the time turner again that Snape awoke.
"Granger? What's going on, where are we."
Hermione smiled, "we're in the Forest of Dean, and we're about to travel through time to around a week before Sirius was killed at the Ministry of Magic by Bellatrix Lestrange," she answered as she slipped the time turner from her robe.
Snape looked down at himself, he was only covered by a sheet wrapped around his waist, once again he flushed as he realised, she could have been "looking", at any part of him she might find amusing to her.
"I need a robe," he snapped.
"Don't fret, I'll get you one as soon as we get to where we're going, alright?" She grinned at him, "don't worry Severus," she said as she slipped the long chain over his head. "You've got nothing to be embarrassed about." She wiggled her eyebrows up and down to distract him as she turned the hourglass, then they both began to fall.
