Siena crept in the shadows of the forest, for the most part holding her breath. The night sky clouded her vision somewhat, but her ability to read the minds of her pursuers was like being able to see clearly. A million thoughts ran through her head, most along the lines of: she's close; I can feel her, this way!
And they were right; they were close, too close for comfort. Gripping the rough bark of a large tree trunk, she shimmied her way up, afraid that using her golden wings would give her away.
"Well, this is fun," She mumbled softly to herself once she climbed up the tree. After brushing a piece of curly brown hair from her golden eyes, she peered around the forest to see the erasers turn away from her tree, looking absolutely confused as to why they lost her trail.
When they had disappeared completely, she lay back on her branch and fell asleep.
" Hey! You shouldn't sleep up there like that! It'll hurt your back." Siena's eyes flew open and she looked down to see a Hispanic girl peering up at her.
"Uh…" Was all she could manage.
"You're like Max right?" She shaded her eyes from the morning sun and pointed at her wings that she had forgotten to pull in. "Max is my sister, she's staying with me right now, so she can help you. You come from the school, don't you?"
Sienna blinked, surprised that the girl could know so much, but she was careful at the same time, knowing that she shouldn't trust her fully.
"I don't need help," She insisted. "Leave me alone."
The girl ignored her. "I'm Ella. What's your name?'
"Does it matter?" Sienna hissed lightly.
"I promise I won't bite." Ella giggled. "Come on now."
She hesitated for a moment and then slowly climbed down and faced her. "Sienna. That's my name."
She smiled softly. "Well ok Sienna, let's go."
"Why were you out her?" I asked, shying off to her as we walked. "There are some good berries and stuff in the woods back here. She makes stuff with them and so she asked me to come get some. She's going to laugh when I come back with you instead."
Sienna never regretted following the girl that day.
