"She's beautiful..." whispered Xensleigh Benji IV.

"Let me see!" piped up little Akutelle Benji - with black hair, pale skin, magenta eyes, and small fangs in either side of her mouth, she could be considered a fright, a danger and a bad influence to many of her friends, but little Akutelle was as merry and jolly as a half-goff, half-prep little girl could be when she lived in the middle of Radiant Garden, a predominantly prep world.

The little girl in Xensleigh's arms was as different from Akutelle as could be - with silvery blonde hair, radiant skin and warm blue eyes, anyone could tell that she was a prep, the direct enemies of goffs. It was dangerous for Akutelle's parents to be together, since her mother was a purebred goff. So Basenja Way sacrificed herself for the love of her lover and her darling daughter.

However, Xengsleigh's baby was not the child of a goff. She was 100% prep, like her father, who was afraid that she would grow up to be prejudiced towards goffs. So he took the little child away from her mother to grow up with Akutelle and learn to love all, goff or prep.

"What will we call her?" asked Akutelle.

"How about... Jalia?"

"No. Reminds me of jail. How about... Basenja? To remember my mother's bravery?" she suggested. Xensleigh smiled warmly... it would be nice to give his daughter a goff name rather than a prep name, to make contrast. His only worry was that kids in school may tease her either because she grew up with goffs, or had adopted one of their names.

Akutelle leaned in to kiss little Basenja, but Xensleigh warned her carefully not to. A goff's kiss was contagious and some very bad things could happen to young Basenja if Akutelle were to lay lips on her forehead.

MARCH 1, 2007

Akutelle skipped up the steps of Radiant Garden Elementary. She was in a very happy mood; it was her best friend's birthday and she had bought him the best gift ever.

Demyx was the only kid in her class who did not frown upon her; he was not a prep nor goth, but a Nobody. Demyx's father had delivered her and he was with the anti-segregation movement between preps, goffs, and Nobodies.

"Hi, Dem-dem!" she greeted him with a hug, which Demyx returned. "Happy birthday!" She handed him the neatly wrapped present.

Demyx surveyed it closely, peeking at the nametag, which read:

Demyx V. Myde Jr.

128 E. Caroline

Radiant Garden, KH 78912

From:

Akutelle X. X. X. V. Z. S. D. L. M. R. Benji

91 W. Gerard Way

Radiant Garden, KH 78905

"Well, open it!" she said happily, grinning from ear to ear. Demyx shook it, but it made no sound. He tore through the wrapping paper, which hid a white box. Making sure no one was around, he lifted up the flap. Then everything went black.
