Title: Grown-Up Christmas Wish

Author: Tomoyo-chan

The basket came floating down one cold winter morning. Warm furs protected the package inside, which gave weak whimpers until the door opened unto the steps.

Cindy Lou gazed down, half startled and half overjoyed at the covered basket. She knelt down, the fur trimming of her dress brushing the snow as she leaned over the baby looking up at her. She grinned, reflecting back the look the small baby gave her. "Come look and see what the breeze brought us last night," she called loudly back into the house.

A muffled crashing noise reached her ears from inside, before a familiar figure stood far too innocently at the door. "I didn't break that light thing your mother sent. It's just ran away."

"Never mind that. Come look."

For the first time, the Grinch's eyes focused on the umbrella-basket. "Wait, you don't mean... I'm not ready for this. I can't be a father."

Cindy Lou gave a knowing smile, picking up the small bundle and holding it to her breast. "Look, she looks like you." She ran a finger along the baby's hairline. Wiry pale green fuzz covered the baby's head, nearly as thick as the Grinch's own, the little nose wriggling against the cold remarkably similar to those in Cindy's childhood pictures.

"She?"

"She." Cindy Lou shifted the warm blankets for just a moment, giving the Grinch enough of a view to simultaneously rejoice at having a daughter and freak that there was a half naked baby on his doorstep. The freaking won out.

Twenty minutes and a long scream later, the three were sitting in the house as Cindy fussed over the baby, making sure she was fed and content. "Are you sure, it reached the right house? Maybe the breeze got off track and it's meant for the Hubgrumpkins' next door?"

"No, she's our all right. Look, she has your tastes even." And it was true, the baby did seem to like the taste of old cheese and olives, rather then the traditional Who-ville tastes of sugar cookies and candied fruit. "Here, why don't you hold her?"

And with that, Cindy Lou placed a tiny baby in the arms of the least child-friendly man in Who-ville. The baby looked up into the face of the man purported to be her father and he could only think one thing as he looked back at her cream colored face and thick green baby hair.

This was only going to get worse.

Still Christmas for two more hours, so this isn't late. This is something I wrote last Christmas after watching the remake of the Grinch with Jim Carrey in it (can't you tell?). Yes, as odd as it sounds, I was obliquely hinting at a CindyLou/Grinch pairing. As in they live together, and now have a baby. Very short, and I have no clue where I was going with this, but oh well. Hope you are all having a good holidays.
