Rein's POV
"Fine, can I come by to your club sometime next week?" I asked her as we walked to our next class.
"Sure," Fine said popping a piece of chocolate in her mouth. "Why, through? Do you want to make some sweets for Bright or something?" I immediately turned red. "A lot of other people asked me if it was okay if they could use the cooking room, too. They should've asked Milky to see if it was okay, but what's going on next week anyways?"
"Fine, don't you pay attention to the calender at all?" Well she might not, because of several incidents where the Headmistress forgot to rip off the pages... but still! "Next week, is the most important event for all girls," I said stopping to see if she was at least going to guess.
"Well, I don't pay attention to the calenders since someone keeps forgetting to rip off the days," She explained. So I was right about the reason. "Next week is... I give up, explain it to me."
"Next week is Valentine's Day, the day where girls give chocolates to the one they love~," I said happily. I can just imagine it, as I give the chocolates to Bright-sama, he'll say, Rein, you are sweeter than any chocolate. Then...Kya~~~~!
"Rein. We're in class," Fine said taking me out of my fantasies. "Imagine stuff later." Weird. I thought that she would be all excited. It is the first time that we've ever really done anything on Valentine's Day.
"Why aren't you excited," I asked her as I started filling out the answers to the review worksheet that we got. It's so simple since Bright-sama showed me an easier way that I can remember it. "Did you and Shade get into a fight or something?"
"No, by the way, for number 6 the answer is that only wind is needed to power a windmill, but power is easier can be easier obtained through a solar panel right?"
"Yes," I said as I quickly scribbled that answer down, neatly onto my paper. "So then why aren't you that excited? I've heard that some girls are going to buy really expensive chocolates and that it's a contest between almost all the girls just to get their chocolates, to Shade, Bright-sama, and that guy named Toma."
"That guy that Chiffon likes?" She said finally opening her physics book to try to find an answer. "They look good together, a really responsible pair."
"I know. But that's not the point right now," I said flipping the page over to continue the questions on the back. "How could you not be excited about Valentine's Day?"
"Because there's going to be a huge amount of screaming girls and... I'm not really sure, it's just really nerve wrecking I guess. I already know that maybe a quarter of the girls are interested in Shade and when I think about that, I think about how much less of a chance I have," She said simply.
"But you have a chance, at least. Look, next week you'll help me make the chocolates and I'll help you get some more confidence. I've got a bunch of make up and decors, this'll work," I said circling the last few answers to the paper.
"But, I hate make up," she said also finishing up her worksheet. "We finished this pretty fast."
"That's because it's just a review worksheet, now let's go see what make up will look good with your skin color," I said taking her hand, dragging her out the door after we dropped off our worksheets. As long as we get everything we need from the lesson, we can leave early from classes. Anyways, I just dragged her back to our room. As I grabbed a brush I looked at the clock, we had a little over an hour until the next class started. "Light make up for you, since you don't like it and it should be waterproof."
"Rein, is this really ness-"
I cut her off by saying," Yes, yes it is." An eye shadow lighter than her eyes, to make them stand out. A blush the same tone as her skin, to make it look smoother. Curling her eyelashes to make them look thicker. "Look at yourself."
She turned around to look in the mirror and shrugged her shoulders. "Sure, it's not my choice, but... it'll do." She turned back to me, smiling and said,"Thanks. A bit of confidence was given to me, before I decide to give chocolates to Shade, I'll definitely help you with your chocolates as compensation."
I smiled back at her and said,"Thanks. Let's see if I'm worse at cooking than 7 years ago."
We started laughing remembering all the weird things that we made. Like that mush for the Best Sweets Princess and all of the other things. Such pleasant memories. Then Fine suddenly said, "Now get this make up off of me."
"But you look so cute," I protested. " I want to put more make up on you, to make you look even more girly and cute."
"No."
"Please just a little more color," I pleaded to her holding up the brush. "Just a slightly darker pink."
"I swear you want me to hurt you," she said. Then we looked at each other and after a quick glaring contest, we both started laughing. "No seriously get this off my face before the next class." I did as she said then we both hurried to our next class. The rest of the classes for the day was simple and easy, but I felt like there was suppose to be something harder that was going to happen today. Maybe it was just my imagination.
"Rein. I want to talk to you about something," Emily said sweetly and politely as always.
"Sure," I said hoping that it wasn't about me helping her get Bright-sama's heart. "What is it that you need?" Then I noticed that other girls were locking the door and closing windows. What's going on? The girls then stood behind Emily who's expression was changed to something cold. Why?
She spoke differently, more seriously and colder than I've ever heard, "You see, Rein. I really do like Bright-sama, but it's unfair that only you get to spend so much time with him. I mean, what's so special about you? You're not that smart, not that pretty, and without Fine you can't defend yourself." Why is she saying such cruel things to me? "Listen carefully, Rein. Bright-sama is the person that I'm destined for. He's the one that I'm going to marry."
I could hear my heart thumped as she said those words, that were slowly tearing me apart. Then I found my voice,"But- you can't be serious." Someone tell me that this is a nightmare.
"Oh, but I am, so in order to speed up the process, I'm warning you not to be so close to Bright-sama anymore. Don't even bother to make your chocolate, next week, cause I'm the one who's stealing his heart." Stop it.
"Why would you do this, aren't we-"
"Friends? That's a child's story, listen Rein. Friends are just people you use and that's it," she said. Stop it!
"That's-"
"Of course it's true. Anyways, you get my warning right? If you don't think about it, I can't say that I'll let you off easy," she said, walking to open the door. "And Fine doesn't need to know any of this, or you'll just be seen as a little girl who has to ask her big sister just to handle someone." Her 'friends' followed her out the door.
And I just sat tears falling, I'm crumpling on the inside and the words playing over and over in my head: SOMEONE TELL ME THIS ISN'T REAL! A NIGHTMARE! ANYTHING BUT REALITY!
I buried my crying face into my hands. Please... Someone come and help me...
