Are you even listening to me?"
He is, but he ignores her anyway. He's like, proving a point.
She's being stupid and he's right and she's wrong.
They've been together for like, two years, and her talking shit about how he's only been with her for so long because he can't land anyone else is really insulting, okay? She's not doing him some favor by being his girlfriend, and it's shitty of her to say so, even if she was joking, which she insists she was.
And she's been insisting it for like, the last twenty minutes. He's been listening, but like, he's an actor, so he can make it look like he's listening when he's not, and he can make it look like he's not listening when he is. He believes her that she was joking, because god, she does that a lot. He still doesn't think she should joke about things like that. About how much he loves her and how he knows she loves him too.
Also? She's not his only option. It's not like he's going to tell her that, and part of the reason he won't is because she knows that. Women look at him a lot, and he's old enough to know what the looks mean. He's a good looking guy, okay? He could do pretty well if he was single and wanted to.
He doesn't, but still.
Jade lets out this huff and stomps to the office, and he can see her through the window, talking to his boss Andy. Beck only works here during the summer when he's not at school, or shooting for a movie. Plus Andy knows Jade pretty well,
and doesn't mind her hanging around the shop.
She comes out and has the day's newspaper in her hand, and lifts herself up onto his workbench, crosses her legs so her shorts ride up her thighs.
Shit.
It's hard to be mad at her, 'cause she fights dirty.
After about 20 minutes, this lady walks into the shop to pick up her car, and since Beck and Andy are the only two working today and Andy's busy with paperwork, Beck heads over to the desk to settle up her bill and give her keys back to her.
Honestly, the fact that she flirts with him is just really convenient right now, with Jade sitting there trying to be mad at him when he didn't do anything wrong. This lady's kind of just proving his point when she smiles at him like that and puts her hand on his arm when she thanks him for her oil change.
He walks back over to his workbench and grabs the wrench he needs, and Jade says, "God, fuck off," and smacks him on the arm with a rolled up newspaper. He doesn't want to smile, but he can't help it, and when he looks at her she rolls her eyes and grabs onto his coveralls to pull him closer. "Can we stop fighting? I'm bored."
He leans over to kiss her and she lets him, which feels pretty good, because he's wanted to do it for a while. He says, "I love you," against her lips, and she says, "I know you do," in this whisper that makes him a little insane.
