Chapter 2

"So your mirror just broke. Again."

The blonde simply shrugged. Regina rolled her eyes.

She was so used to seeing Emma in her shop. Over the past two weeks the woman had bought ten different mirrors, showing up every other day saying another mirror in her house broke.

Regina found her amusing, especially the way Emma gave her a goofy grin as she explained, almost comically, how yet another mirror broke. Then they'd go into the back of the store to look at the collection. Regina would describe different mirrors, the theme, asking Emma what she had in mind etc. It was becoming a regular thing.

Not that she was complaining. The woman's presence was almost…enjoyable.

She does keep things interesting 'round here

Regina smiled a genuine, friendly one before she beckoned Emma into the backroom. The woman followed her, smiling as well.

"You do know that at this rate, you're probably going to have over seventy years of bad luck?" said Regina, handing the new mirror to Emma over the counter.

Emma bit her lower lip. Nervous.

C'mon you fool! You've been practicing this all day…just ask her already dammit….

"Well if you'd just go out with me then that would lower the chances of earning any more of those unlucky years"

Shit! that's not how I was gonna…crap why did I just…shit…

The brown eyes looked up, searching her face.

"What?"

Shit.

"Emma, are you saying…all these mirrors…just so you could…what exactly?"

Aw hell, might as well tell her the truth.

Emma didn't want to look into those eyes; she knew she'd sound stupid.

You idiot…

"I…just..umm…well you're so...y'a know… and I just…well…I wanted to see you again and I needed a reason to come back to the shop so just…"

Feeling awkward and rather embarrassed, Emma stuffed her hands into the pockets of her red leather jacket and tried to keep her voice level. She looked around the shop, trying really hard to avoid the intense gaze of the woman standing in front of her.

The dark eye brows arched up as Regina eyed her curiously.

"So you just decided to break mirrors one after another just to come here and see me?"

"Pretty much…yeah…" Emma shrugged.

"But that's so …

Oh here it comes…she's probably gonna say its stupid, ridiculous, cowardly, foolish, childish hell maybe even laugh at me or something good god why the fuck did I even open my mouth…

…sweet! Emma you shouldn't have!" Regina smiled brightly.

Emma blinked.

Oh.

Okay then.

She's impressed. Well played Emma Swan. Now keep it cool…

She ran her hand through her hair and returned the smile, "So how about that drink?"

"I'm sorry but…don't really do…that"

Emma felt her heart drop "Oh I'm sorry, you're not into women or…"

Regina laughed. "Oh, no…it's not that…just the whole…dating or 'going out for a drink' thing…I don't really do that…not anymore."

"Why?"

"You ask too many questions, Emma"

"Well they're within reason"

"You argue a lot too"

"You're forgetting that I broke ten mirrors for you"

"Those were part of a special collection."

"A moment ago you thought I was sweet"

"Now I'm thinking you're crazy."

Emma leaned over the counter, closer towards the other woman.

"You're kind of stubborn, but I like it. You'll have that drink with me."

Regina raised an eyebrow, clearly amused, "Oh really? What makes you say that?"

"I just know" Emma winked. She grabbed the brown package that held her brand new mirror and stepped back from the counter.

"G'night Regina" Emma gave the woman her best smile as she turned around. She didn't look back as she stepped out of the shop. The bells jingled.

Even without looking, she could tell that Regina was smiling and shaking her head, until the door closed behind her.
