Chapter 6:
Regina didn't know what devil had come upon her.
Why am I kissing her back? I should stop this…I should…oh…
She wanted to pull back. She wanted to snatch herself away from the blonde and run out. Run far away somewhere.
She was feeling too much.
And yet she couldn't seem to pull herself away from the woman who was kissing her with so much passion.
Her skin felt sensitive. Her face seemed to burn where Emma's hand touched. Her heart was beating so fast she almost feared she'd wear it out. Her lungs burned for air. Her lips tasted Emma's.
Oh Emma…
She sighed internally, repeating that name over and over inside her head. The kiss was so consuming Regina couldn't get her thoughts straight.
It was as though she was drowning, running out on air and now finally breathing after a long time. Her entire body tingled with new sensations and desires.
She wanted to laugh. She wanted to cry. She wanted to be in Emma's arms. She wanted to speak up and tell the woman exactly every thing that was running through her head that very moment. Tell her everything. Open her heart. Lose herself completely in her.
Everything she had promised she'd never do. Never again.
No…no… I can't…not again…
As soon as the thought registered in her head, Regina pulled herself away from Emma. Her eyes snapped open to a pair of very confused green ones.
"I…I should go" Regina muttered, stepping down from the window seat and on to the floor. Emma looked like she was at a loss for words.
Regina turned away from her and walked towards the door.
"No. Regina… wait!"
Emma caught up with her, but Regina didn't stop.
I've to get away. I've to go. I need to go. I can't do this.
"I can't Emma, ok! Just back off!" Regina snapped at the woman who had tried to grab her arm. Her eyes burned. Her heart felt like stone. She tried to will her tears away.
How dare she…how dare she make her feel this way again…
Anger. She welcomed the emotion. She felt it boil over every part of her. It was always easier to have her rage replace the pain, the confusion and all the turmoil in her heart. It washed over her, making her forget how vulnerable she felt a moment ago in that woman's arms. How exposed she was as they shared that kiss…
"Henry!" She called for her son at the foot of the stairs. The boy came rushing. Regina grabbed him and headed for the door.
"Regina…please…"
Emma's voice. It surprised Regina. She'd heard its playful tone, its nervous tremble, its excited pitch but never heard it sound so…hurt…
Regina knew nothing would stop her tears if she turned around now. So she didn't.
"Emma," she said, using every bit of her strength to keep her voice from cracking, "It's late. Henry has school tomorrow. Thanks for having us"
She didn't wait for a reply and walked out the front doors. Henry followed her.
