Chapter 9
Regina was busy reading her morning newspaper when the store's phone rang.
"Mirrors! How may I help you?"
"I'm picking you up at 8 tonight"
"I'm sor-
"Remember what you agreed to last night? Our date. Tonight. I'm driving."
Emma.
Regina rolled her eyes.
"What makes you think I'm going to let you drive me in that ridiculous, yellow…thing…"
"Hey! Be nice. It's a good car."
"So you say."
"Just be ready by 8, I'll wait for you behind the shop."
"Where are we going?"
"Somewhere. Bye now."
"Bye" Regina dropped the receiver, smiling.
She looked beautiful. Emma stared.
Emma hadn't dropped a single hint on where the were going tonight, and yet Regina had managed to appear looking gorgeous and ready for where ever Emma would take her.
It was only a simple dress. Black and silver. It was the woman in that dress, who took Emma's breath away.
Regina was standing under the street light, outside the back of her store when Emma pulled over her yellow bug. The woman was stunning.
Emma waved hi and got out of her car. She walked over, heels clicking on the pavement, dress sparking under the streetlight, lips deliciously shiny and luscious- Emma felt light headed.
She's beautiful…
Emma held the door open for the woman. Regina smiled at her, her brown eyes twinkling- their gaze soft and gentle. She took another step towards Emma.
Then suddenly her lips brushed Emma's cheek. A soft kiss. Emma's breath caught in her throat. Her heart leaped. Regina pulled back and looked into her eyes, slowly trailing a finger across the place her lips had touched seconds ago.
"You're really something Emma" she whispered "You look stunning"
Emma chuckled.
Ofcourse she thinks I look stunning…
"Do you even own a mirror?" Emma breathed, Regina laughed and stepped into the car. She didn't reply. Emma shut the door and went around to the other side, taking her seat.
The air was too heavy for Emma's liking.
"I just threw this shirt on, don't think it's been washed I mea-
Regina looked her way. Her eyes trailed over her body- starting at her curls, which were probably windswept, her blue shirt, her black jeans and down to her boots then moving back up to meet her eyes.
"You do have a terrible sense in fashion, Ms. Swan, especially that horrendous red thing you own and wear on top of pretty much every thing but…" she smiled softly, "tonight you look good."
"Maybe I should put on that red thing right now to shut you up"
"Maybe you should just drive and not ruin the night, Ms. Swan"
"Stop calling me that!"
"I will when you stop wearing that jacket."
Regina smirked, crossing her arms. Emma laughed, throwing her hands up in defeat. Her heart fluttered a little bit as she started her car.
"Alright, now tell me, where we are going exactly?" Regina asked her. Emma shrugged.
"Oh, nothing fancy. We're having pasta. You do like pasta right? Henry said you're always cooking-
"You spoke to Henry?" Regina glared at her "about our date…to Henry?"
"Not about the date no. I asked him what you liked to eat and stuff" Emma mumbled.
"Oh. Okay then" Regina settled back. Then after a few seconds Emma thought she heard her mutter something.
"Sorry, what?" she asked the woman beside her
"Pasta's great" she smiled. It was a genuine one, Emma could tell because the softness of it touched those brown eyes.
They drove past malls and busy downtown streets. The little car wheeled into the highways, leading away from the city.
"Emma, I'm pretty sure there aren't any restaurants out here" Regina said, peeking out of her window.
"I said we're having pasta. I didn't say where" she winked at the woman beside her. Regina raised her eyebrow but leaned back on her seat.
The car drove them away from the city lights.
Regina simply stared.
She had been to the beach couple times. With Henry. With her father. Always during the day.
They had never bothered having a picnic there- too many people, too noisy, too messy etc etc.
She was standing, with Emma, on the parking lot by the boardwalk, over looking the lake. The grass patch and picnic tables were on the other side.
Who knew the city looked so magical at night, especially when one was watching it loom over a beautiful lake?
The way lights shone over the lake, it was almost mystical. Regina stood watching, Emma quiet beside her, as night air gently touched their faces. It was almost as though they had stepped away from the real world and into a fairy tale.
What surprised her most was what Emma had done.
Emma. The woman was crazy.
Otherwise who in their right mind would do something like this…go all out…for one simple date…
Madness. Utter madness.
There was a wooden picnic table, with a blanket spread over it. It was secluded from the other tables, hidden by a few tall trees.
Plates were set up and so were small candles. Rose petals were scattered all over the table. A rose once again was lying on one side, just like it had on the night they kissed in Emma's room.
Pans, a basketful of veggies and spices were neatly arranged on another bench nearby. A camp stove stood beside it.
Emma grabbed her hand and lead her towards the table. She pulled out her mp3. Something soft started playing, Regina didn't really pay attention. Her eyes were watching the blonde. Her heart was once again beating fast for the woman who was doing so much.
Oh Emma…
"Alright, now you are going to help me make pasta" Emma declared, grabbing a box from the bench.
Regina chuckled, blinking a tear away from her eyes; she made her way towards her.
Soon the stove was lit, water boiled and fresh vegetables were chopped. Emma hummed to the music while working the knife over tomatoes on her cutting board. Regina watched her hand work swiftly, completing one task after another.
It was as though she was watching Emma for the very first time. Every little thing she did caught Regina's eye- the way she walked, the way she lit the candles, shred the cheese, tossed the salad, and poured drinks into their glasses- everything.
Regina sat up on top of the bench while Emma chopped beside her. From her position she could see the woman up close- the blonde curls, the nerve on her temple, every twitch of her soft lips, the slight redness of her cheek, her long neck-Regina sipped her drink as she stole quick glances at her. There was so much there. She couldn't help but stare.
"Ow!"
Emma's voice broke her momentary trance. She had blood on her finger.
"Fuck. Why am I so clumsy…dammit!" she cursed, wiping away at the red with a tissue.
Without thinking, Regina reached for the woman's hand and lifted it to her lips. She kissed it first then as a drop of blood appeared, she quickly trailed her wet tongue over it and sucked between her lips. Then she took it out and kissed it again.
"There. All better" she smiled at the woman who stood absolutely still before her, not breathing, and with her lips parted.
"uh…thanks…" the blonde mumbled and turned to wash the knife. Regina grabbed her hand again.
"No. Let me."
Emma blinked then nodded. She took Regina's place on the bench as Regina rinsed the knife with a water bottle and made the sauce.
"Here. Taste" she held up a spoonful of pasta sauce for Emma, who eagerly took it in her mouth. Regina watched as her lips parted and the small spoon disappeared between them, then reappeared. She watched her mouth taste the sauce, her tongue rolling over her bottom lip and her neck muscle flexing as she swallowed.
Regina breathed heavily. The sight of Emma was breath taking. She wanted to trace the blonde's wet lips with her finger. She wanted to taste the tomato left on those lips…her tongue…
Mmm…
Emma smiled and gave her a thumb's up. The sauce was perfect.
They grabbed the boiled pasta, the steamed vegetables and sauce and settled down on the picnic table.
They talked over their food, sipping drinks. Regina felt herself relax. Emma was charming, funny-her jokes actually made her laugh. They were both stealing glances at each other, Emma blushed a bright shade of red when Regina caught her eyes.
Emma surprised her with a small cake she had hidden inside the drinks' cooler. They shared it.
Regina watched Emma lick chocolate off of her finger after they finished. She bit her bottom lip, trying with all her will to prevent her mind from imagining themselves in a totally different scenario, Emma licking something else off her fingers…
Thoughts clouded her brain as she sat, drink in hand, watching Emma slowly clear away the plates, throwing used napkins into the garbage bag. Regina couldn't help it. She wondered how the blonde curls would feel under her fingers, how Emma's voice would sound when she moaned and gasped and sighed, how she'd quiver under Regina's touch, how the woman's body would feel, thrashing…thrusting…on top of hers…
Her thoughts were consuming, over whelming. Her body burned with desires as she watched the tall woman clear up their mess, chatting lightly, oblivious to her mental state.
She wanted to walk up to Emma and lace her arms around her waist, feel the woman's warmth in her chest. She wanted to kiss that deliciously long neck and play with her beautiful curls.
She wanted to kiss Emma's lips and keep kissing her until she couldn't breathe anymore.
"Emma…" Regina called out, softly. The blonde walked up to her.
Maybe her eyes had given away her thoughts, because Emma leaned down, slowly, carefully, as though she wasn't sure if the woman sitting in front of her was ready, as though she feared Regina would run again.
Regina's heart and mind roared in unison, one protested and one welcomed the softness of Emma's lips on top of hers. The sweet invasion of her tongue inside her mouth.
Regina sighed.
She was better than chocolate. Better than anything Regina had ever tasted in her life. Emma's hand entwined in hers as their kiss deepened. Regina's other hand laced through Emma's curls, holding them away from her face.
Her heart thudded loudly against her chest as her world spun. Faster and faster. Her breath caught inside her throat. Only one name repeated over and over inside her head.
Emma…Emma….Emma…
