Chapter 14
The sun was setting when Emma pulled her yellow bug into the school's parking lot and stepped out.
Regina and Henry were standing by the entrance. She waved at them as they walked up to her- Henry ahead of his mother.
"Hi Emma! …erm…why are you in a suit?" he eyed her outfit curiously. Emma chuckled.
"I was at a party when your mom called, didn't get a chance to change."
"College people wear suits at parties?" he asked
"When we're attending really…really…boring formal ones then yeah" Emma nodded wisely.
"Oh. I like it. You look nice" he smiled at her. Emma ruffled his hair.
His mother was standing behind him, wearing an amused smile on her face but eyeing Emma all the same.
Except not with curiosity, Regina's dark brown eyes were staring longingly at her. The brunette arched her eyebrow and gave her a once over. Emma could feel her eyes taking in her high pony tail, the collar of her white shirt, the black tie and the black suit jacket. She smirked after her eyes caught Emma's. Impressed.
She totally approves.
"I hope we didn't interrupt your evening or anything" Regina spoke, stepping closer, "Henry and I just finished meeting with his teachers at the Parent-Teacher night here. I take him out on Friday nights; Henry thought it'd be great if you could come along with us"
Emma looked down at the little boy who was looking at her, his eyes hopeful.
"Ofcourse!" she put her arm over Henry's shoulders and gave him a sideway hug, "I'd love a night out with my reading buddy."
The smile on the little boy's face was priceless.
"Yes! See mom I told you she'd never say no. You took so long to just-
"Alright, dear. Get in the car" Regina cut him off quickly, opening the car door for him. Henry shrugged and got into the backseat.
Nice try, Regina.
"You thought I wouldn't want to come?" Emma whispered as Regina turned to face her again.
"I just thought you might be busy. You said you will be. I haven't seen you in days…"
Regina trailed off, not meeting Emma's eyes.
"I'm sorry" Emma mumbled, "it's just been a crazy week. The fundraisers are popping out of my a-
Regina's finger cut her off mid sentence as it pressed at her lips.
"Language!" Regina hissed, her eyes shot pointedly towards her son inside the car.
"Right. Sorry. I've just been on the clock for managing all these events on campus…"
"There you go then, that's why I was hesitating to call. I figured, you probably don't have time…"
"But I do" Emma cupped Regina's cheek in her hand, "I always have time for you."
Emma felt a smile as her lips lightly brushed the brunette's cheek. Regina whispered in her ear. Her voice was so low Emma barely caught the words.
"Your suit is doing all kinds of things to me, right now" her hand gently trailed up her tie and tugged playfully near her collar, "you look so…sexy…mmm"
She finished by biting Emma's earlobe, and then quickly got into the front seat.
Damn woman…
"So where are we off to?" she asked once inside the car, "burgers? pizza? ice-cream?"
"Ice-cream!" Henry squealed from behind
"On what occasion, my dear?" Regina asked, giving Henry a pointed look on the rear view"
"Mom, you're still mad about the math thing?" her son groaned.
"And the gym thing" Regina added, curtly.
"I'll try harder, I promise!"
Regina glared at her son, who only stared back.
"Ok you two what's the math thing and the gym thing?" Emma asked, starting her car,
"My dear son is doing poorly in his math class. His teacher is concerned. On the other hand, his gym teacher reported that he always sits out during basketball or volleyball or soccer, or any team sport. He has to be threatened with detention before he decides to join."
Emma watched Henry's face darken; he stared at his feet and mumbled.
"What did you say, dear?"
"I got the best scores in my art class….and…for reading and writing too…it's just math and stupid gym" he muttered.
"I am proud of you dear, I just wish you'd try harder for math. And at least give sports a chance…"
"I could help him out" Emma spoke up.
"You could?" They spoke at the same time.
"Well I know how busy you are with the shop" Emma looked at Regina, "send Henry to our tutoring program and his math problem will be solved. As for sports" she checked back on Henry, "we already hang out at the park, I could show you some tricks you could use to impress your team mates"
"Really?" Henry's face lit up once again, "Mom can I go? Please, please, please?"
Regina was watching her the whole time she spoke.
"Emma, are you sure…"
"I am. I'm more than happy to help out" Emma offered a reassuring smile. It earned her another kiss on her cheek.
"Thank you" Regina whispered.
"It's my pleasure. Now, how about that ice-cream?"
"Ice-cream it is" Regina smiled.
"Alright then!" Emma winked at the little boy on the rear-view mirror who was smiling brightly.
"You like my mom, don't you?" Henry mumbled, playing with his spoon inside the ice cream cup.
They were sitting around a small table at Baskin Robbins; Regina had just walked off towards the washrooms.
"Of course I do, Henry. We're friends."
"No… I mean" He gave her a pointed look, "you like like her…"
Oh boy.
Urgh, where's your mother? She should be talking to you 'bout this…
"Uh…ye-eah…" Emma replied, thinking how to explain it to this ten year old.
"Does she like like you too?" he asked
"Yeah, she does."
"Oh." He took a spoonful of chocolate fudge ice cream in his mouth, saying nothing else.
"Does it bother you, kid?" Emma asked, a little worried.
"No. You're cool" he smiled, "and I haven't seen mom smile and be nice to people in ages. She was actually humming the other day!"
He looked scandalized, as though the thought of Regina humming was absolutely unthinkable.
"You don't say!" Emma gasped, pretending to be horrified.
"I know! Anyway, hey did I tell you…"
And that was that. Emma smiled as Henry went on to chat about his new art project, for which they would have to draw and colour monsters, and write about them.
Kids' minds are so simple. As long as his mother's happy, I'm 'cool'.
They walked out of the ice-cream shop few minutes later. Regina laced her arm around Emma's as they made their way through busy sidewalks, towards the car. Henry trotted along, holding his mother's hand and talking excitedly.
"G'night Emma! Mom, aren't you coming?"
Henry was already out of the car and making his way towards the house.
"You go on ahead Henry, grandpa's waiting up for you. We're just going to take a drive…"
"We are?" Emma looked at the woman beside her, confused.
"Yes, dear we are" Regina smiled sweetly, turning back to Henry she said, "I better not find you staying up and watching cartoons when I get back."
"Alright, alright. Bye Emma!"
"Bye, Kid!" Emma waved as he ran up towards the doorsteps.
"He knows." she whispered to Regina.
"What?!" Regina's eyes widened in surprise.
Emma repeated the short conversation she had with Henry in the ice-cream shop.
"He's ok with it, Regina. I didn't have to explain anything…he's one good kid... I was actually freaking out inside cause… if he didn't approve I don't think I'd-
Her ramble was cut short as soft lips captured hers. Emma kissed back, trying to convey her unspoken words.
"I've missed you" Regina whispered with her eyes still closed. Emma felt her breath on her lips as she caressed her cheek.
"I missed you too." Emma breathed, kissing her once again.
"Take me somewhere"
"Where?"
"Anywhere" Regina smiled, "drive somewhere far"
Emma planted a kiss on her forehead before starting her car.
"Your wish is my command" she winked as the car rolled past rows of houses, towards the highways.
"Do you come here often?" Regina whispered
"No. Not really" Emma sighed.
The car was parked in a grass clearing, behind the fences of the airfield. They were standing outside, leaning to the side of the car with arms around each other. Little blue and yellow lights glowed on the long stretches of runways on the other side of the fence. Bright lights shined from the buildings far in the horizon. The deep hum of aircraft engine was filling the night air around them.
She used to come here with her father and watch the airplanes. They would lean back on their front seats and watch planes take off. Emma loved watching the lights, feeling the gentle breeze on her face rushing in through the car windows, and listening to the growing hum of the engines slowly approaching her. Last time she was here was after her father's death, to say goodbye to his memories.
Tonight she was here again. With Regina.
She held her in her arms as they watched an airplane slowly approach the take off patch. Emma loved the feel of Regina's back leaning against her. Her arms were wrapped around her waist; Regina's rested on top of hers.
Emma felt the brunette shiver slightly as the airplane moved towards them. Fast. The sound of the engine was growing ever so loudly. She knew how it felt like to watch this for the very first time. The aircraft seemed to be approaching them at full speed, almost as though it would break through the fence and crush everything on its path. Her heart fluttered as Regina let out a delighted gasp when the plane flew out into the sky instead, lifting off long before it reached the outer edge of the field or the fence.
Then she heard laughter.
Regina was laughing, whooping at the top of her lungs and clapping as the plane grew smaller in the night sky. Emma chuckled at her excitement.
She's so adorable…
"That was amazing! My goodness I thought it was gonna run straight through us but it didn't! Oh my god, Emma!" Regina rambled, grinning widely.
"I thought you might enjoy this" Emma winked. Regina wrapped her arms around her neck and sighed.
Emma felt a kiss on her neck. Regina's lips moved up, brushing her jawline, her cheeks then over to her lips.
Their kiss deepened. Emma felt her heart beat quicken as Regina's tongue entered her mouth. Their bodies pressed closer. Regina's hand trailed down her front.
"Can we go to your apartment?" Regina breathed hotly in her ears, her chest heaving slightly.
"Oh yeah" Emma nodded.
"I think it's the outfit" Regina smirked, "and the adrenaline rush from watching that plane up close"
Emma chuckled, "I think it's because you're crazy about your gorgeous girlfriend and want to fuck her brains out"
"mmm…maybe…" Regina whispered, biting Emma's lower lip.
Suddenly a thought occurred to Emma.
Well if she enjoys the suit…then maybe…hmmm…
She whispered her ideas in Regina's ear.
"What d'you mean by you wanna 'pack up'?" Regina raised an eyebrow.
Emma rolled her eyes, and whispered some more.
"What 'big-long-thing' I- …oh…"
Realization finally dawned on Regina's face as Emma pointed down at her front. She giggled.
"Can't you just use the word?!" the brunette laughed. Emma blushed a bright shade of red and just shrugged. Regina kissed her cheek.
"I'd love it if you…er… 'packed up'" she winked then continued,
"I want to spend the night with you. You've been so busy all week I couldn't have you all to myself. You've to make up for that. A woman has needs. You are going to take care of them, yes?"
Her tone was demanding. Regina spoke as though she expected nothing less from Emma.
So bossy…
I like bossy.
It's sexy…mmm…
"Yes ma'am" Emma nodded solemnly. Regina smirked wickedly and pulled her in closer once again.
They shared another passionate kiss, Regina grinded slightly against Emma's front, making her moan.
Argh I wanna take her right here…right now…
She hungrily kissed the soft lips, her hand trailed down the brunette's back and cupped the swell of her hips. She gave the flesh a firm squeeze.
"mmm…we should go now…" Regina sighed into her mouth before pulling away. Emma tried to catch her breath.
Regina gave the airfield one last look before turning towards the car.
"Let's go, hon" she smiled and opened the front door.
Emma took a moment to gather her thoughts.
She couldn't believe how much Regina had changed over these few weeks. She no longer hesitated to ask from her anymore, she no longer doubted herself. Regina was confident. Emma loved this new side of Regina, which made her so open, so willing, and so wonderfully lovely...
Trust is a beautiful thing and I've finally earned hers…
Emma thought happily, as they got into the car.
Her heart pounded in anticipation.
