Dances were supposed to be fun, especially prom, but as Alice sat at a table watching all the happy couples dancing in each other's arms—Jessica and Mike, Angela and Ben, Eric and Cynthia (she still had to get use to that one… he was only a year older, Cynthia would always remind her), Lauren and Tyler, Bella and Edward, Rosalie and Emmett, Carlisle and Esme—as the sweet and sultry notes floated through the hotel's ballroom she was starting to regret not having the courage to ask Jasper Hale out.
