I'm hoping to break the 40 review mark this chapter, (O_o whoa...that's a lot of reviews...) so...if you could just pop in a few words, anything really, that'd be awesome. :D So yeah. I think that's it. Onward with the story! *blows train whistle*
Jason POV
Jason wasn't the kind of person to get jealous. As a matter of fact, it tended to be the other way around.
And no, he wasn't being haughty or all high-and-mighty. It was just the truth.
At Camp Jupiter, there were quite a few reasons people were jealous of Jason. He was the son of the King of the Gods, with quite an arsenal of demigod powers, including flying and using lightning, just to name a couple. Plus, his father's status made the other demigod children...rather upset with him, to say the least. He'd heard more then one complaint about "Why is his dad get to be the most powerful one, and the King of the Gods?"
But this time, the tables were turned. The famous Jason Grace, leader of Camp Jupiter and Prince of the Sky (as claimed by Leo) was green with envy.
What was he jealous of?
Percy Jackson.
Yup.
Jason knew this was totally irrational and stupid. It's not like the dude asked for it. He had absolutely no control over his life, whether it be being whisked away by a crazy goddess, forced into battles that determine the fate of the world, or even if he'll survive tomorrow...
Then why on earth was he this furious with him?
Jason really had no idea. Ever since he saw Thalia talking about him, so fondly, like a big sister talking about her little brother proudly, it made his blood boil.
He felt the rough leather seat beneath him as he clenched his fists.
He felt betrayed.
Thalia was his only living relative left. His mother? Dead. His other family? Unknown. His father? Not exactly the world's most loving dad...
He had no one. No one but Thalia.
And Percy was stealing her from him.
Ok, it wasn't really steal, since it wasn't like he owned Thalia, but a selfish part of him wanted her all to himself - she's his sister, not Percy's!
Jason growled lowly under his breath. This whole thing was unfair! He should be the one Thalia's always talking about, not him!
Realizing what he had just thought, Jason stopped short. What was he thinking? Percy was a great friend, it wasn't a bad thing that Thalia liked him more than her own blood brother and the little scoundrel was taking her away from him -
No, no, no! What the heck is wrong with me!? He thought, clutching his head, as though that would stop the craziness taking place inside of it.
Jason sighed. The taxi was almost at Annabeth's parents house, and they hopefully could give them a hand or let them borrow their car for the search.
Plus, there was the fact that Annabeth hadn't seen her parents in over a year. If Jason had parents left, he thought bitterly, he'd want to visit them as often as possible.
SCREECH!
The taxi swerved, and Jason felt nausea bubble up in his stomach. Seriously, this driver drove like an absolute maniac!
He turned to his fellow demigods, who besides Annabeth didn't look much better. Poor Leo looked green, and was mumbling under his breath about Allen wrenches and screwdrivers, probably to keep his mind off the horrific car ride.
Piper, on the other hand, was clutching Jason's hand like a lifeline, her other hand over her mouth and her eyes wide with horror. Jason really hoped she wouldn't barf all over them.
The last demigod of the group, Annabeth, seemed totally fine, which was a miracle in itself. She was instead staring out the window silently. If Jason had to take a wild guess, he'd say she was thinking about Percy.
Out of all the people that were affected by Percy's second disappearence, it was definitely Annabeth who was affected the most. She was his girlfriend obviously, but there was probably more to it. Jason hadn't been at camp nearly as long as Annabeth, but he knew that there were plenty of other things Percy and Annabeth had done before the Prophecy of Seven came into play. Probably things like save each other's lives, help one another out of sticky situations, save the world...little demigod things like that.
SCREECH!
The seatbelt tugged on Jason's midsection painfully as his face met the seat in front of him. Jason saw stars and gagged simultaneously.
Their grey-eyed leader turned to the other three, all of which were looking rather uncomfortable. "Umm...are you guys ok?"
Leo glared with both hands over his mouth. "Yeah, just peachy. OF COURSE WE'RE NOT OK, WHY'D YOU HIRE THIS LUNATIC IN THE FIRST PLACE?!"
Annabeth laughed sheepishly. "Yeah...he was the only taxi driver available, since SFO is one of the most busy airports in the country, and I'm pretty sure this is the reason why no one had taken him yet..." The taxi lurched yet again, and Annabeth was thrown right into Leo, Leo into Piper, and Jason, sadly, squashed against the window.
Jason peeled his cheek off the window pane. "Ow."
Piper grabbed her head painfully. "Jeez, Leo, watch it!"
"Hey! It's not my fault!" Leo protested loudly.
Annabeth groaned, resigning herself to this fate. "I almost think we'd be better off in the Chariot of Damnation..."
Jason didnt even want to GUESS what that was.
Hazel POV
Hazel was worried. No, not about accidentally spilling cranberry juice onto her sweater as they sat in a fancy hotel waiting room, though she was worried about that too...
Ever since the fight at the BART station, she'd been thinking hard about what happened. With Percy gone, the whole group seemed to be falling apart.
She leaned back into the plush velvet chair. Even she had to admit the Ritz-Carlton was a classy, EXTREMELY high-end place, and she knew nothing about hotels!
The glass doors, the chandelier, the doormen, the...well, everything! Hazel finally got why Thalia had requested this place with a smirk.
Settling back down into the soft armchair, she turned her thoughts back to the task at hand.
Percy, obviously, was taken captive, Annabeth was freaking out and getting frazzled, Jason...she didn't even know what was wrong with Jason, but he was obviously upset about something, Piper was spending her time trying to be peacekeeper while keeping in her worry, and she and Frank were just a mess from trying to keep six other ADHD teenagers in line.
They were soooooo doomed.
"Hey, Hazel?" She turned to her left, where Frank was reclining on another chair. "What do you think's going on with everyone? Even when Percy and Annabeth were...you know..." Tartarus. "our team was still together, even though we were all depressed. What's happening this time that's so much different?"
Hazel shook her head. "Frank, I'm just as lost as you are. Ugh, this is awful, just watching everyone slowly falling apart!" She put her glass down and lay her head in her hands. "And I can't do a single thing to stop it!"
Frank lay a hand on her shoulder. "It's ok, Haze, let's just hope we get Percy back..." he said grimly. Hazel realized the implied tone. If we get him back at all...
And Hazel was finally realizing the implications that meant. California was HUGE. There were a million places Percy could be, and they had less than a week to find him. It was an impossible race-against-time and Hazel was NOT liking the odds.
Gah! She clutched her head. Well, since there was absolutely nothing she could do at the moment...she grabbed her glass. Meh, might as well just relax for a while.
Across the hall, Thalia and Nico were talking quietly to each other. It must've been something funny, because they were both laughing softly. Hazel smiled. Well, at least a couple people were managing to get along...
"Um, excuse me, miss?"
One of the receptionists called her over to the check-in area. She turned to Frank. "Well, that's my cue..."
And done! So you get a bit of emotional frazzle-ness and see both groups heading their separate ways...hehehe, this might not end well. ;) But hey, I can't tell you!
So...review? Please? *puppy dog eyes*
