"Why not?" Alle asked the boy nudging him on the shoulder. "It's fun, it feels like your entire life lies in the balance of your balance," she said, balancing on the edge of the astronomy tower.
"I would really prefer if you didn't do that," Nathaniel worried, reaching for the girl's waist to steady her.
"What? Are you afraid?" The boy sucked in a deep breath before nodding quickly, pulling her down from the ledge. "Oh."
"What do you mean 'oh,' you hadn't noticed? I've never come close to that ledge."
"You play Quidditch."
"You know I don't have a choice. They really would disown me if I didn't."
"I'm sorry."
"For what?"
"Not noticing." There was silence for a moment before she walked over and leaned on the boy's shoulder.
"You at least noticed Avery right?" Silence once again.
"What do you mean?" She asked, holding onto his arm but pulling away slightly.
"She's terrified of heights. I don't know why but the first scrimmage of the year she couldn't fly; none of those idiots knew why." He looked down at her tiredly.
"Oh Merlin, it must be because of the fall this summer. She was trying to do tricks when she fell off of her broom and broke her arm." She paused. "I can't believe I didn't notice."
"Don't beat yourself up about it. It takes one to know one." More silence.
"Can't you quit Quidditch next year?"
"You know I can't."
"Please?"
"I'll see."
"Oi you, where you been? Not off seeing that stupid boy of yours have you?" Veronica Farnavaz whispered as Alle slid back into the room. With a quick look at their wall clock she noted the time to be well past midnight. She glanced around the room to see if anyone else was awake before perching herself on the edge of Veronica's bed.
"I'll have you know, he's twice the wizard you'll ever be," Alle responded with a smile.
"Right, I'm sure you've seen that penis that's three times the size of mine, haven't you Alle?" Veronica teased. Alle felt a strong blush before giving the other girl a slight shove.
"Oh hush you."
"Hush? But I have something to tell you, I think you'll find it quite interesting." Veronica teased.
"Continue," Alle said.
"Well I think I know who your mystery boy is," she replied with a wink.
"Oh really?" Alle questioned, sitting back as to look relaxed.
"Yes. I'm decently certain that it is none other than Mr. Nathaniel Malfoy," Veronica smirked. Alle's heart skipped a beat.
"What makes you think that?" She chuckled.
"Well it's quite simple, you both stare at each other with the weirdest ogling faces I've ever seen. He can never take his eyes on you and when you catch him you blush."
"Any girl would blush, admit that."
"But not any girl would get the chance," Veronica teased once again. "You know in all of our years at Hogwarts he's never been interested in someone, ever. And then all of the sudden he starts to show you interest and you've been disappearing more often. I think it's decently safe to say that we have ourselves a bit of a, what did you call it, a "Gnomeo and Ruliet" situation? And now you can't even deny it because you're more red than a tomato."
"Veronica you can't tell anyone, we're just friends."
"Ha! I knew it," she nearly yelled, yielding a stirring from the other side of the room. "Alle," she began, putting her hands on the other girl's shoulders, "of course I would never tell a soul. We're friends and friends don't do that. Your secret is safe with me." Alle let out a sigh of relief. "Of course, if it weren't so obvious I'd be so bloody jealous. He's gorgeous, AND a Malfoy. What more could you want."
"Veronica you disgust me sometimes." Alle laughed.
"I know," she winked back.
