His Favorite Star
Bad Wolf
Chapter 5
It was dark. Dark and cramped. And being who she was Star instinctively punched what was in front of her, getting a pained groan in response. "Doctor? Is that you?" the ginger asks in a shaky voice. "Yeah. That was my stomach… But I'm glad you aimed high." The man said with a pained voice "Where are we? What's happening?—whoa!" Both the Doctor and Star fallout from what could be categorized as a spinning cupboard. Whatever that could mean. Doctor landed directly on top of Star covering the ginger's fiery red hair from the view of those who flocked towards them.
"Oh, my God! I don't believe it! Why'd they put you in there? They never said you were coming!" a feminine voice said shocked.
"What happened-I wa—ow!" Doctor said getting a sharp pain in the side from his struggling sister under him. "Get the bloody hell off of me! Do you even know how much you weigh!?" Star exclaimed. Star started to get up but stumbled only to be caught by a gentle hand on her shoulder. "Careful now. Oh!" the kind woman helps Doctor up as well as two other human just stand and watch like the pair of time lords grew two heads. Star stumbled again to be caught by the nice lady and her brother. "Oh, mind yourself! That's the transmat. It scrambles your head. I was sick for days." She lets go of Stars arm to make sure the small girl had her bearings and wouldn't fall over. "Alright? So, what are your names then?" the nice one asks.
"She's uh S-Stargazer… o-or Star I think." Doctor says holding his head. "I'm the Doctor, I think. I—uh we were, er… What happened?" he asks looking at Star wondering if she knew what they were doing. "Hey! Don't look at me like that! I don't know!" Star managed to squeak out holding her brother upright from just keeling over right there.
"You got chosen."
"Uh, chosen for what, exactly?" Star asked, letting go of her brother, who was standing by himself now.
"You're both a housemate. You're in the house. Isn't that brilliant?!" said the lady with utter excitement. Star just looked at her like she was crazy. Then looks around trying to see their surroundings. The Doctor saw that they were in a pretty modern room with flat screens, wavy statues and chairs so slick you could fall out of them easily. On the flat screen she noticed something pink but, in the process of falling earlier, she lost her glasses, so it looked more like a swirling pink blob to her. She patted around the floor for them but didn't find them. A couple of other people came by and looked at them but Star paid them no mind, frantically looking for her red rimmed glasses. "D[beep]it! Doctor! I can't find my glasses!" she exclaimed, growing anxious. She felt her brother touch her shoulder and looked up. He puts a pair of heavier larger glasses on her. "These will have to do for now… I think I kind of stepped on the ones you were wearing. Sorry." He said showing her the mangled twisted metal that used to be her beautiful red rimmed glasses. Star sighs and takes the mess from her brother nodding and throwing the red rims away. "It's alright Doctor… I could just, get new ones I guess…" she said not betraying her disappointment. Those were her favorite glasses, and she got them from their first adventure together.
"Would the Doctor and Star please come to the Diary Room?" a loud over head voice said excitedly, making Star jump and reach for her gun. The siblings got pushed into a room and Doctor into a chair. Star stood and watched over the pink eye on yet another flat screen. "You are live on channel 4400. Please do not swear." The voice said. Doctor immediately turned to look at Star, who had the most insulted face he's ever seen. He couldn't stop himself from laughing a little.
"OH, COME ON!" Star exclaimed throwing her arms in the air in annoyance.
By the time that was done with, Star was fuming on the sofa playing with the old replacement glasses in her hands. Doctor was sonicing a part of the room, most likely a door to get out. A few minutes later he gives up in a huff, and Star sits up listening to his predictable rambling. "I can't open it." He says simply. "It's got a deadlock seal, ever since Big Brother 504 when they all walked out. You must remember that." The nice lady said. Doctor tapped a glass window with a picture in it."Oh, that's exoglass. You'd need a nuclear bomb to get through that." She said.
"Oh don't tempt me…" Star said putting the glasses on, with a dangerous smirk making the lady look at Doctor in confusion. "No really, please don't tempt her." Doctor said with a cautious tone. The lady sat beside Star, with a little caution, and fidgeted with her hands sheepishly and looked at Star, with innocent blue eyes. "I know you're not supposed to talk about the outside world but, you must've been watching. Do people like me? Lynda. Lynda with a Y, not Linda with an I. She got forcibly evicted because she damaged the camera. Am I popular?" Lynda asked Star, as if they'd been friends forever. "Uuuh, I-I…" Star stuttered, not knowing what to say. "Sorry it's been a very long time since we've actually watched the telly." Doctor intervened. Lynda's eyes grew wide with worry. "Oh, but does that mean I'm nothing? Some people get this far just because they're insignignificant. Doesn't anybody notice me?" she said, and the worry was apparent. Doctor's instincts kicked in and he thought fast saying "No, you're, you're nice. You're sweet. Everybody thinks you're sweet." He says with a convincing smile. Star just rolled her eyes, pouting. "Oh, is that right? Is that what I am? Oh, no one's ever told me that before! Am I sweet? Really?" She looked at Star for approval this time and the ginger merely deadpanned. "Yeah, f[beep]king dead sweet—" she stopped when the middle of her sentence was cut off by a random beeping. "What the h[beep]l was—OH COME THE BL[beep]DY F[beep]K ON!" she yelled infuriated. Lynda looked a little concerned but shied away from asking Star another question. "W-Well thank you." Lynda said quietly. After a moment Doctor went to the wall looking at it curiously. Star just groaned and watched him do so. "Doctor that's a wall." The ginger deadpanned. "Yeah, yeah I know that, you little smart-aleck! But isn't there supposed to be a garden out there or something?" Doctor asked still examining the wall. Lynda laughed quietly and looked at him like he was crazy. "Don't be daft. No one's got a garden anymore. Who's got a garden? Don't tell me you've got a garden." Lynda said with a little bit of disbelief. "No. We've just got the TARDIS—"
"I remember!" Star exclaimed sitting up on the couch excitedly. Lynda smiled with happiness. "That's the amnesia! So what happened? Where did they get you two?" she asked curiously. "Oh yeah!" Doctor exclaimed going over to Star and gives her a proud smile. "We'd just left Raxacoriofallapatorius and…" Doctor trailed off thinking.
"Then we went to Kyoto!" Star said smiling at her brother. Lynda had an amazed look on her face like she couldn't believe what she was hearing. This made Star just want to brag even more. "That's right, Japan in 1336!" she said bravely. "yeah and we only just escaped, because someone just HAD to call captain yamato a 'kitenai hentai yaro' was it?" Doctor said. "Hey! He's the one who got a little too bl[beep]dy handsy! And I didn't see you doing anything about it!" Star retorted. "Well we were together…Laughing, and then there was this light. This white light coming through the walls, and then.."
"And then we woke up here…" Doctor finished for the ginger. "Yeah that's the transmat beam. That's how they pick up the housemates." Lynda explained. Doctor shakes his head in deep thought. Star pushed her glasses up also thinking on their predicament. "Oh, Lynda with a Y. Sweet little Lynda. It's worse than that, cause we're not just passing travelers" said the Doctor. "Oohoho no stupid little transmat gets inside my ship!" Star said. The Doctor gave her a look and she rolls her eyes "Alright OUR ship." The small girl said. Then turns to Lynda with an expression of realization. "That beam was fifteen million times more powerful, which means this isn't just a game. There's something else going on." Doctor explained. He crossed the room to one of the pink swirling eyes that he figured were cameras. "Well, here's the latest update from the Big Brother house. We're getting out. We're going to find our friends, and then I'm going to find you." Doctor said glaring into the camera while Star is standing behind him with a very intimidating glare.
Doctor was pacing the floor behind the sofa impatiently, Star was doing the same but in front of the sofa. The house mates were all sitting on the sofa, looking quite nervous. Lynda gently touches Stars arm to get her attention, but she backs down when she sees the gingers annoyed expression and turns to her brother, who wasn't paying attention at all. "Doctor, they said all the housemates must gather on the sofa. You've got to." She pleaded sheepishly. Doctor didn't even turn to reply, "I'm busy getting out, thanks." Lynda looked at the other two housemates who were getting impatient. The guy crossed his arms and tapped his foot, gaining an irritated glare from Star, to which he immediately ceases. "But if you don't obey, then all the housemates get punished." Lynda said urgently. "What the bl[beep]dy f[beep]k is this? A f[beep]cking prison?" Star mumbles to herself. "Then maybe we'll be voted out." Doctor said sarcastically, going to sit in a round chair. The guy on the sofa leaned up and gave the Doctor a look like he was the stupidest creature in the universe. "How stupid are you? You've only just joined, you're not eligible." He said haughtily. He gets another glare from Star, who just glares at him. Star sits on the floor in front of her brothers feet, quietly brooding in agitation. "I swear, I'm bl[beep]dy going to f[beep]cking punch you so d[beep]n hard in the f[beep]king face, you won't f[beep]cking ever had existed…" Star said to the guy. She gets a warning look from the other house mate and a slightly startled look from Lynda. "Don't try anything clever or we all get it in the neck." Lynda said, giving Star a brave warning look.
"Big Brother House this is, Davina Droid. Crosbie, Lynda and Strood, you have all been nominated for eviction. And the eighth person to be evicted from the Big Brother House is….Crosbie! Crosbie, please leave the Big Brother house!"
Star rolls her eyes bored, and Doctor leans back on the sofa, bored as well. When everyone starts crying and hugging the middle house mate, Star just groans. A door to a short corridor opens and catches Stars attention. She just lies on her back on the floor as Doctor gets up and goes to see what all the fuss is about. All Star heard was the last part of the conversation between Lynda and her brother.
"What was that?"
"Disintegrator beam." The guy says.
"She's been evicted. From life." Lynda says quietly.
Star instantly gets up and comes over to her brother's side. "ARE YOU F[beep]CKING BL[beep]DY INSANE?!" Star shrieks "YOU JUST F[beep]CKING STEP INTO A D[beep]MN DISINTEGRATOR?!" Her face started turning red, from anger and Doctor, not knowing how to calm her down, gets her to go sit on the sofa and punch the pillow a few times. From afar they can hear her screaming into the pillow. By that time she's calm enough to rejoin the conversation.
"Rose is out there! She got caught in the transmat! She's a contestant!" Doctor was saying concerned. Star raised a hand to stop him from talking. "Alright I've had f[beep]king enough of these morons. Its time we got out Doctor. That other contestant, eh Linda with an I, she got forcibly evicted yeah? For what?" she asks.
"Damage to property." Lynda said.
Star got a big grin and gave her brother a pleading face. He just sighed and rubbed his temples. "Make it quick alright?" she nodded taking her army jacket off, giving it to him. "Is there a limit?" she asks and he shrugged. "Just don't kill any one." Is all her brother said. She nods and Doctor made a sweeping motion letting her go and do as she pleased. She happily picked up a bowl, poured its contents out onto the floor, and in one swift motion, flings the bowl towards the TV in the middle of the room. She giggles as she hears the satisfying sound of glass breaking and wires popping. By the time the small ginger was finished, the living room of the Big Brother house was trashed beyond repair, with glass and sofa stuffing all over the floor. Star giggles and bounces over to her brother grabbing her jacket and putting it back on.
"Doctor and Star, you've broken the House Rules. Big Brother has no choice but to evict you. You have ten seconds to make your farewells, and then we're going to get you!" said the voice over head and Star grinned. "That's more like it. Come on, then. Open up!" Doctor huffed at the door. Star followed her brother with a proud grin. "You're both mad! It's like you want to die!" Lynda exclaimed trying to stop them. The siblings get into the white corridor together and Doctor looks straight up to the camera. "Come on then, disintegrate me! Come on, what are you waiting for?" he challenged. But nothing happened. "Star, I knew it! You see, some one brought us here into this game. If they'd wanted us dead, they could've transmatted us into a volcano!" Doctor said and with an annoyed look he begins to sonic the door at the other side of the corridor. As soon as the door opens Star shoots out looking around doing a mental checklist of everything around them. She turns around and finds Lynda and her brother holding hands. She rolls her eyes and gices him a look taking his screwdriver from him and fiddling with it. "Hold on, Star we've been here before." He said, recognizing his surroundings. "Yep! This is Satellite Five. No guards. That makes a change. You'd think after having me for a day, they'd be armed to the teeth." She said sonicing a door. All three go through the door and see a smaug covered Earth in a window. Green gas was flowing all across the once beautiful planet, and Star just stares at it ignoring the two other voices in the back ground. Some one mentions another passenger uboard the TARDIS and Star groans loud enough for all to hear. A light comes on behind her; she turns to see a sign and freezes at what it says.
Bad Wolf.
Star sits infront of the window staring at the green planet below them. Shes ignoring the convorsation between Lynda and the Doctor. Her mind was drifting off to many places listening to the drums. She wondered where Jack was and if she would ever see him again. The ginger shook her head. 'what are you thinking? He's a fighter, of course you'll see him again.' She thought to herself. She gave an empty chuckle and let her mind wander else where to the beat of her own drum. But the more her mind wandered farther away the closer a dark corner came. She curled up hugging her knees close to her chest for comfort. That's where the monsters of her mind lived, in the darkest furthest reaches of her mind; as the darkness came closer, she could hear her worst night mare calling her name. The robotic voice rose above her soothing drums. She covered her ears to keep from hearing the robotic yelling; but nothing could drown out that voice. It is a voice that will be forever driven into her mind; she, who acted like she could take the universe on bare handed, had no escape from her torment. She felt hot wet tears sliding down her cheeks, but she wiped them away quickly. She calmed herself quickly and looked at her brother. 'He would hate you if he knew what you have done…' the robotic voice said quietly in her mind. She turned and looked out the window silently. She came back to reality when she felt an arm wrap around her being enveloped in a familiar many colougne; she leans back into it and smiles. "Well hello to you too." She said with a giggle. She stands as soon as the arm lets her go, turning to see Jack in a form fitting white shirt, black vest and tight black jeans. He watches her look at him up and down with a flirty smirk. "Like it?" he asked, making her cheeks turn pink. "Y-You bloody wish!" she said, making him laugh. "What happened to your glasses?" Jack said noting the usual red rimmed glasses were replaced by brown glasses. "Don't ask…" she said embarassed.
"Any sign of Rose?" Jack asked turning to the Doctor. "Can't you track her down?" Doctor asked. "She must still be inside the games. All the rooms are shielded." Jack said shaking his head, playing with his vortex manipulator. Star came over and started typing on a computer. "If I can just get inside this software, I might be able to find her. I mean she's gotta be friggin some where." Star said typing away. "Well you'd better hurry up, cause these games don't have a happy ending." Jack said. "No dip Sherlock, you're a fucking genius." Star said continuing to type away. She takes Jacks vortex manipulator and connects it to the computer; leaving Jack stunned and speechless. 'Whats got her all upset?' he asks himself. Jack turns and sees Lynda and gives her a charming smile. "Hey there." He said flirtatiously. "Hello." Lynda said with a blush on her cheeks. "Captain Jack Harkness." He said sticking his hand out for her to shake, which she does. "Lynda Moss." She said sheepishly. "Nice to meet you Lynda Moss." He said noticing Star watching from the corner of her eye; noting an apparent pout on her face as she continues typing. "Jack if you really think it's a good idea to flirt with another girl in front of me you are gravely mistaken..." Star said giving Lynda a hostile emerald glance. "I was just saying hello!" Jack protested. "For you that's flirting..." Doctor interjected, looking over Stars shoulder as she typed. He had to jump back as his hot headed sister kicked the console, giving it a dent. "Star what is it?" the Doctor asked with surprise in his voice. "The damn thing isn't compatible! This stupid damn system doesn't even make any sense!" the ginger said giving the computer to her brother and kicked the console again, only making the dent bigger.
"This place SHOULD be a basic broadcaster." the doctor said. "Yeah it SHOULD, but the systems are twice as complicated! This stupid damn system doesn't even make any fucking sense!" the ginger said giving the computer to her brother and kicked the console again, only making the dent bigger.
"This place SHOULD be a basic broadcaster." the doctor said. "Yeah it SHOULD, but the systems are twice as complicated. This is more than just television Doctor..." Star said. "You mean this stations transmitting something else?" he asked. The ginger nodded up to her brother, rubbing her eyes under the brown glasses. "Like what?" Jack cautiously chimed in. "That's just it, we don't know..." Doctor said contemplatively. Star gave an annoyed groan and looked down at the floor, making sure it was still beneath her feet. She started feeling a bit dizzy when something came to mind. "Dammit...This whole Bad Wolf things tied up with us Doctor. Someone's manipulated our entire fucking life." Star said in a low voice. "It's some sort of trap and Rose is stuck inside it." The drums in Stars head began to make her brain rattle and she knew she couldn't avoid that dark spot, and the small ginger got a suspicion that the blasted robotic voice had something to do with it.
The Doctor didn't notice, of course, being occupied with typing on the computer trying to find Rose. It was a while until his voice cut through the silence saying "Found her!" to which Star bounced up and to his side immediately. "Floor 407." Star notices a panicked expression cross Lynda's face. "Oh, my God, she's with the Anne Droid. You've got to get her out of there!" Lynda said urgently, and the siblings instantly shoot towards the lift, impatiently waiting for it to show up. As soon as they got up to the correct floor, they could hear the voice of the robot, giving the final questions. Doctor looked around the corridor of doors frantically until Lynda found the correct door. Jack pulled out his sonic blaster and pointed it at the door. "Stand back, let me blast it open." he said only to get his gun pushed down by Star who said "You can't. It' made of a bloody Hydra combo!" The doctor frantically sonics the door, and as soon as it was open Jack and Star ran in, guns blazing, followed by the Doctor. "Rose! Stop this game!" the Doctor ordered, having Jack and Star repeat his orders. Rose started running towards them and Star ran forward to cover her escape, until suddenly there was the sound of a shot. Letting her adrenaline kick in, Star ran a bit faster, hugging Rose, blocking the beam.
There was a flash, and then darkness.
Drums.
That's all she could hear in her head. The small ginger felt something or someone underneath her and opened her eyes a bit to see Rose's blonde hair. Star stiffly puts a hand on the blonde's throat to check her pulse and gave a quiet sigh of relief, feeling her wake up.
"ALERT! ALERT! WE ARE DETECTED!"
She knew that voice. That same robotic voice that gave her years of torture and abuse. The moment Star looked up she shot backwards towards the wall away from the robotic looking creatures. She felt around her jacket for her inhaler, but she knew even that couldn't calm her own hysteric breathing.
"THE FEMALES WILL STAND. STAAAAND!"
The creature said wheeling itself closer to both of the girls. Rose stood almost immediately, but Star was frozen in fear. Rose looked at her in astonishment, not even being able to see if the ginger was breathing due to how still she was being.
"STAAAAND!"
The robot came closer to her and the small ginger yelped, jumping up to grab Rose's arm in fear. Star was looking around in a jumpy manor and Rose could feel her hands shaking grip on her arm. There was a conversation going on between one of the robots and a hologram of the Doctor, Rose didn't pay much attention until both her and the small ginger were brought into the conversation.
"WE HAVE YOUR ASSOCIATES!"
"YOU WILL OBEY OR—"
"THEY WILL BE EXTERMINATED!" the robots yelled.
"No."
Stars face shot toward the hologram with fear drawn all over her face, near tears. Rose also stood in shock of the Doctors answer. The robots also stood in silence for a moment before ordering
"EXPLAIN YOURSELF!"
"I said no." the doctor said simply, making Star's breaths become more panicked as she looked at the countless number of robots gathering around her and the human. They both couldn't believe what the Doctor was doing.
"WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS NEGATIVE?!"
"It means no." Doctor said finally, confusing every one.
"BUT THEY WILL BE DESTROYED!"
"No!" Doctor said with the same tone "Because this is what I'm going to do. I'm going to rescue them!" Star let out a breath she was holding. "I'm going to save my sister and Rose Tyler from the middle of the Dalek fleet" he continued with a matter-of-fact tone "And then I'm going to save Earth, AND THEN, just to finish off, I'm going to wipe every last stinking Dalek out of the sky!"
"BUT YOU HAVE NO WEAPONS, NO DEFENCES, NO PLAN!" the main dalek screamed in objection. "Yeah. And doesn't that scare you to death?" the Doctor asked challengingly. Star looked around and flinched from how the machine bodies where almost vibrating in agitation. She remembered these things from the war, how they took her from the battlefield and experimented on her. All physical effects of the experimenting were long gone, but she knew the memories would never leave her mind, the sights, the sounds and the pain she experienced at the hand of these hateful creatures would always stay with her.
"Star..."
Her brothers voice pulled her out of those memories, as it always did.
"Y-Yeah?" she asked with a quiet and shaky voice. The small ginger felt a kind hand on her head, Rose's attempt at soothing her child-like counterpart.
"I'm coming to get you."
Star just smiled hopefully and nodded to him, hugging Rose's side, like a child would do to their mother. The transmission ends and the Daleks start going nuts, zipping around, backing Rose and Star up to a wall, shouting orders at each other. Star just stuck close to the human beside her, flinching when ever a dalek even came close to them. Her brother was coming though. He was coming to get her and Rose. She held a breath of hope, knowing it wouldn't exsctly be easy getting through dalek ships.
But he was coming for her. That's all she needed to know.
