Chapter 7
LPOV
"Why Lucy?" Arwen asked "why would you volunteer to go on such a dangerous trip?"
"I must" I sighed as I gently unwound my hair from its braids.
"No you certainly must not" Arwen demanded
"It is my destiny to go just as it is yours to make the choice. You know you must choose between near immortality and living the life of a mortal women. Just as I know I can make the choice to ignore why Aslan brought me here or I can embrace His will and do as He wishes. Although He is perfectly aware that it will be done my way, not his. It is my choice to make."
I watch in the mirror as Arwen considers my words carefully. She looked like she hadn't thought of it that way.
"Everyone has a destiny Arwen" I murmured, "It's what we do on the way to achieving it that matters."
Letting her ponder my words I get up and gently place my circlet on its pillow on my dressing table. Turning to get a tunic and pair of leggings from the dresser I see Arwen leaving from the corner of my eye. Her long black tresses nearly getting caught in the door as moves in haste. No doubt to go see Aragorn. Shaking my head I quickly change and decide to forgo elegance as I put my normally pristine hair into a messy bun. I had business to take care of.
Turning sharply towards the balcony doors I broke into a run. A foot from the railing a vaulted myself over it and dropped the three floors to the garden floor. Landing in a crouch I startled the poor ellyth who happened to be tending to the garden. Nodding my apologies I ran into the awaiting forest. I had felt Him earlier. At the Council. I knew He was waiting for me to find Him. And find Him I would.
Running over roots and dodging tree branches I giggled as I felt a peace settle over me I hadn't felt in a long time. I felt as if the trees were twirling around me in a dance as I ran. That they were moving to show me the path to who I was seeking. I wasn't far off. Coming to a clearing I stopped running. In the middle of the clearing was Legolas. He was dressed similar to me in worn leggings and a tunic. His eyes were closed, his sword in hand as he slowly moved through a set of moves. I stood entranced, for I don't know how long, as he slowly sped up his movements. Faster and faster I watched him move until he looked like he was performing an intricate dance with himself and his sword. He thrust at invisible enemies and jumped over invisible fallen foes. He was beautiful and graceful and deadly all at once. I couldn't tear my eyes away. I didn't want to.
But then it was over and he stopped moving. I held my breath as he slowly turned towards where I was standing. I couldn't decide if I wanted him to acknowledge me or to pretend I wasn't there. For I was certainly embarrassed to be caught watching him practice. I normally wouldn't have been so entranced by the actions but he held such an otherworldly grace and even a demanding presence, I couldn't help it.
"Hello m'lady" Legolas spoke as he laid his eyes on me.
I blushed. I hadn't blushed like a little girl since my first trip to Narnia but here I was.
"Hello young Prince" I answered as I started to walk toward him, hiding my uncertainty. "I am sorry for intruding upon your practice but I couldn't help but watch you. You have such grace with a sword."
"Thank you for your kind words, but I must confess the sword isn't my strong point. I am much more proficient with my bow. Maybe one day you will see, although I dearly hope it isn't in the midst of battle."
"So do I, my Prince," I murmured before I felt a nudge. Aslan was getting impatient. He wanted to see me. "no matter how much I wish to continue to talk to you, Prince, I must be going. Aslan demands my presence."
Before he could register what I said, I turned and ran. If I didn't leave now I wouldn't and I needed to see Aslan. I had questions and he had answers. We had to meet. As I sped up again and ran through the trees, I heard a joyful laugh come from the clearing I left.
'At least I amused him' I thought idly as I ran.
I ran until I almost left Imladris altogether when I saw Aslan. I didn't stop running, instead I jumped on him in a hug. Feeling his presence and seeing him are entirely different and it has been too long since I last saw him.
"Aslan" I murmured into his fur.
"Lucy" he answered
"I've missed you" I continued, "so, so much. I have wanted to see you for so long."
"I know child, and I've reassured you by letting my presence be known, but we don't have long before you must go back. You will be needed."
"I know Aslan" I sighed, "why have you brought me here?"
"Because you are needed."
"And why am I needed?"
"Because you are."
"You're not going to tell me are you?"
"No. You must figure it out yourself. I can't give you the answers just like when I couldn't just come to you every time you were in danger. Things can never happen the same way twice. I have told you are needed and that's all I will tell for now on that subject. And to answer your next question, no, you aren't going back. Your place is here now Lucy, for a long time yet to come."
"I figured Aslan," I answered, "when I felt my pointed ears. When you changed me to become an elf. But why am I needed for so long?"
Aslan chuckled lightly.
"Just because you change the way the question is worded does not mean that I will answer, Lucy"
"I know, but you can't blame a girl for trying" I giggled.
"And I never said you would be needed for so long, just that you would be here" Aslan clarified, well explained a little more because I was slightly confused.
"Lucy!" I heard being yelled from a distance. Glancing around I noticed that it was beginning to darken. I had been gone for much longer than I had expecting. Standing up quickly I started to speak.
"Goodbye Asl…" I trailed off as I realized he was gone. Shaking my head fondly, I started running again. I needed to get back and quickly.
