When Logan had learned that his crush of over a year, had recently got into a relationship he was so crestfallen. He was certain that there was mutual flirting going on. However, now he's not too sure. Well, with all of the texts, phone calls and hanging out they did, it seemed apparent to even those around the two that they were invested in each other.
They both attend the same college and shared a class. Ever since the first day, the both of them have gravitated towards each other. When he first saw those curious brown eyes, caramel skin tone and ruffled hair, Logan knew he was in trouble. Oh, but then he saw Carlos put on his reading glasses and it was the cutest sight he ever had the pleasure of seeing. He spent most of the 2 hour and 50 minute class watching the raven haired man out of the corner of his eye. At least he had worked up the courage to talk to Carlos and from that point on, everything seemed to be in motion for them. They were sitting together each class period and making study plans. Carlos felt like he learned from Logan more than he did the teacher. Although that may be because he, just like Logan, wasn't really focusing on anything in class but the other. At least they passed the class.
Logan groaned at his thoughts. It wasn't the first time this whole month since Carlos told him about some dude he was interested in that he found himself sitting on his living room couch with a grim look on his face. Muttering words here and there. The smart man rolled his eyes as he tried to change the direction of his thoughts. Is it sad that even if Carlos, his crush, was ever disheartened, hurt or mislead by his new boy toy that he'd still be there for him if he needed him. All he would have to do is call him and let Logan's love rush in. From what he knew, Carlos' relationship was going about a month strong.
"Are you still moping about Carlos?" Came an amused voice not too far from him. Logan snapped his head left, towards the sound, to see his roommate and amazing friend, James, who came out of his room to get from food from the kitchen.
"Hell yeah! He led me on, you know? And he doesn't even realize it either. And now he wants to hang out with me tomorrow." The smart man grimace. His emotions were so torn because on one hang he was so excited to be close to Carlos again but then another part of him was mad at the cute raven haired man for luring him in so well.
"Aw cheer up Logie. Maybe this will be your opportunity to win him back." James chuckled with a sandwich in his hand and Logan looked at him with a playfully annoyed face.
"Cause I've been doing so well so far." He muttered and they both laughed.
"Well, if this Jett guy really is a self-centered jerk like you claim, then I'm sure Carlos will realize sooner or later." James smiled and patted his back before getting up to head to his room.
"Thanks James. See you later." The taller man nodded in response before going to do his thing. And with that Logan was left to his own thoughts again.
The afternoons were getting colder as it was now autumn and today was no different when Logan and Carlos met up. The beautiful mismatched leaves creating small blankets on certain areas on the ground where they walked through to get to the café where they usually went to study.
Carlos wasn't sure what has been going on lately with Logan but he's noticed how the sweet hearted man hasn't been his usual calming self. This sucks for Carlos because he doesn't know what's bothering him and how to help him. Seeing Logan like this really is unsettling for Carlos and maybe it's because he still trying to make himself to get over his silly crush on him. Especially after he tried to hint at the smart male about him liking him but Logan sort of shot him down. Yeah, that was embarrassing for him. However, Logan on the other hand, has no idea about him supposedly shooting Logan down. They both are dealing with major miscommunication.
The walk into the café was short and before they knew it they were in their usual seats. The café had its own aesthetic that was pleasing to many people's taste, making it fairly popular. "You want anything?" Carlos asked, standing over Logan slightly who was sitting down in a dark wooden chair. This was normal for the Latino to do; he would offer to buy Logan something even if the pale man insisted on paying for it. Carlos was truly a gentleman.
Smiling in a way that man Carlos' heart pitter-patter, he said "Just some tea please."
Grinning back, Carlos couldn't help but to sink deeper into his feels as he addressed Logan. "Of course." He said with a wink and this same wink always made Logan blush. Today was no different.
Logan watched him walk away and became relieved when he felt the heat in his face fade away. Honestly it just isn't fair for Carlos to be leading him on like this still. Maybe he should just come to terms with the fact that Carlos is just a flirt but the thought of him doing certain things that he does for him for someone else made him frustrated. Then again, Carlos does have a boyfriend... A boyfriend who he probably treats just like this or even better because they are in a relationship.
However, for Carlos Jett isn't quite the kind of a guy he goes for. In fact, he is quite surprised with how much like opposites they seem like. But its because of this, and maybe the fact that he still likes Logan that he's been distancing himself from the blonde. It's only been about a month and they bicker so much. Sighing to himself, he tried to focus on the positive and waited patiently in line. He placed his order, not particularly wanting anything. It wasn't long before he was making his way back to Logan.
"I got your tea. It's vanilla chamomile! I hope you like it Logie." Carlos said, breaking through Logan's thoughts.
"That sounds great, thank you Carlos." Logan said graciously before taking a sip. He hummed in approval and Carlos felt a self-satisfied smirk settle on his face.
They sat in silence for a brief moment. Both not really knowing what to say. This wasn't their common meet together. They would spend this time studying but today they just wanted to hang out. Ever since Carlos told Logan he was in a relationship, things between them seemed odd. Carlos couldn't put his finger on why Logan would be acting differently though. Clearing his throat, Carlos looked at Logan with a tense smile.
"So... how are things?" Logan emphasized on the word things, specifically meaning Jett but not wanting to outright say it.
Carlos met his eyes and thought about the slightly taller man's question. "Eh, I'm okay I suppose. Everything with school is going pretty well." He said in that enthusiastic voice Logan loved to hear so much.
Logan nodded as he listened and the more he looked at Carlos and admired him, he realized that this has gone on for too long and he wants to tell the Latino more than ever how he feels. He knows not to expect much because, well, Carlos is in a relationship but he has to clear his conscience.
"How are you and Jett getting along?" He spoke shortly. Honestly Logan was stalling before working up his nerves completely and maybe hearing about how happy he is with Jett would be answer enough for him to not have to admit how he feels.
Carlos sighed, debating if he should downplay how things are going with Jett or just say that it's not what he anticipated. With reluctance, he answered, "We, well, we bicker a lot. I don't know. It's like our personalities clash a lot. He doesn't like how eccentric I can be at times and I don't really appreciate his insensitivity. It's strange because at first that's what I think we liked about each other; our differences. But now I see how different we really are." Carlos admitted, shaking his head. It honestly felt good to get off his chest.
The smart man saw Carlos' discomfort and wanted to assure him that he could tell Logan anything. The fact that someone could make such a sweet being like Carlos feel weird about himself made Logan upset. "Carlos if he ever hurts your feelings or disheartens you I want you to know you can always call me." Logan spoke with diction in his voice and Carlos looked up from looking at his hands and warmly smiled at Logan. They stared into each other's souls for a small moment before Carlos thanked him for being so sweet.
"I truly mean it Carlos. I-I think that you will always be an intrinsic part of me. So don't hesitate to call." Continued Logan's stumbling voice. His heart was pounding against his ears and he could feel his hands shaking against the wooden table. He felt awkwardly on the warm cup of tea Carlos bought his to help steady his hands.
Carlos was in a similar situation and he could feel his face warming delicately. This was something he never thought he would hear from Logan. It made his body hum with happiness and those nostalgic giddy middle school crush feelings. This was the subtle invitation he's been waiting for from Logan. "Logie, thank you so much. I feel the same way. Or I think I do if you're implying what I think you are implying. Because honestly I'm not sure- No I'm sure of how I feel I just mean- Well when I tried to ask you out that one time you turned me down. So I've always thought you never felt the same way I did. Okay I'll stop talking." Carlos rambled on nervously and Logan didn't know if he should be shocked or amused. It was the cutest sight to see him stutter around his words.
"Wow, this is hard but what I mean is, that it's hard to tell someone that you're still attached to this idea of being in a relationship with them. Especially in our case, because we have been friends for so long but I really, really like you Carlos and I just didn't know how to tell you, so I have been waiting patiently for the right time to say it." Logan explained with a nervous smile. "Wait, what do you mean you asked me out?"
Both Logan and Carlos blushed at his last question and Logan waited for Carlos to explain. "Remember when we were walking to the Max station and before I got on the Max I asked you if maybe you wanted to go to a movie or just hang out and you said no because of some excuse I can't remember right now. But anyways, I thought you turned me down and I felt so awkward about it."
Logan's eyes doubled in size as he remembered that day. He didn't mean for Carlos to think he was turning him down, that was when he was leaving the city to visit some family so he couldn't make plans. "Oh my God! I wasn't rejecting you Carlos, I swear! I said no because that was when I had to go out of town, remember?" Logan gasped and he felt so shook because this meant that if he hadn't have "turned down" Carlos during that time he asked him out, they would have been dating for a at least four months now.
The look on Carlos' face as he let what Logan said sink in was comical. They both looked at each other for another second before breaking out into fits of giggles. This was such a big misunderstanding.
"You're so cute Carlos. Trust me, I wouldn't reject you." Logan said after they finished laughing. He met Carlos' brown eyes with his own and for the first time they both didn't feel obligated to look away before things became intense.
"So Logan, would you like to go see a movie or go out to eat some time?" Carlos asked bashfully.
"Hm, I don't know. I'm going out of town." Carlos said playfully, earning an eye roll from Logan. "I would love that Carlos. Of course after you break up with Jett."
"I'm already two steps ahead of you." Carlos spoke matter-of-factly.
This was like a sigh of relief for the both of them and at least they'll have a funny story to tell their funny grandchildren.
