Shikamaru was worried about Keiko. She hadn't taken the conversation well. She'd stopped associating with Naruto, along with everyone else. She hadn't been to class in days, and was barely at home longer than it took her to sleep. Their parents had yet to notice, or at least yet to speak of it. They were busier than ever with their jobs, and busier still with meetings between clans. Konoha was becoming more dangerous every day, the clans more fractious. It was more important than ever that Keiko stay at his side. Now if only he could convince her of that.

Shika was nervous, an uncommon emotion for him. It was understandable though, considering it was the first time he had ever skipped out from the academy. It hadn't been planned. Naruto had escaped the classroom following a prank, Kiba escaping during the chaos. With Iruka chasing after them it had been easy enough to slip out as Mizuki attempted to restore order. Shika knew that once Iruka was finished chasing down the two troublemakers he'd be after him next, but both the pair had remarkable endurance. It could be hours before Iruka got around to catching him.

Considering Keiko's gifts even that length of time wouldn't have been enough to find her if he hadn't caught sight of her from the classroom. She floated over the rooftops, arms outstretched to seemingly to catch thermals as might a bird. Shika took to the roofs himself, his low-genin level chakra aiding his legs as he leaped from building to building. Technically only ninja (academy students not included) were allowed to take the roof paths but it wasn't a busy time of day and even Uchiha military police would be hesitant to stop a clan heir for such a petty offense.

She caught sight of him as he neared and started soaring away. "I'm sorry!" he shouted after her. Her rising flight paused. She came down slowly, reluctantly, but eventually settled just above the roof. She looked like she was standing on tiptoe but on close inspection her toes remained a hairsbreadth off the surface of the clay roof. "I shouldn't have told you not to be friends with him." She seemed to want more from him. "Naruto… isn't a bad kid," he offered. He wasn't really. Mischievous sure, but not ill-natured in Shika's opinion. The danger came from those watching him and his mysterious parents, not himself.

"He's pregnant." For a moment he didn't register that she'd spoken. Then his jaw dropped, gobsmacked. His mute twin sister had spoken for the first time in her life. He was filled with joy, even if the words didn't actually make any sense. She'd spoken and that was what was important. He'd work on getting her coherent with time.
