Chapter 4: Problems and Promotions

A/N: Hmnn...well...hmmnn...hmmhmn...ah...woaw

I had been hoping that your reactions would help me decide on which way I should pair up the boys...but no such luck. The poll on relationships will go up after this chapter, so if you want to vote please read the notes at the end of the chapter.

Thanks for the fantabulous reviews!

For ww1990ww, I might introduce some more powerful Marvel characters, although this is primarily purely in the Avengers film verse, but my thoughts may change as I progress with the story. Ta ta for the review! And Jordannzy hmmn, good arguments I will consider Sif and Natasha should I have them as straight.

WARNINGS: Death, probably torture, pain, wars, swearing, major plot change, SPOILERS, possibly slash relationships, weapons…rated T for now.

Percy Jackson-

To say that Percy was annoyed when he looked at the debriefing paper, would be an understatement.

It had been approximately 2 months since he had made his internal pledge to blow Basilisk out of the water. True Kraken was a household name at S.H.I.E.L.D now as Percy had forced himself onto an even tighter schedule of missions - but with all the work, he had almost forgotten the aim of his work.

To outshine Basilisk.

He snarled at the paper. It was the debriefing paper for none other than the massive mission set to annihilate the Ten Rings terrorist organisation that had finally come into light last month when the billionaire Tony Stark had escaped imprisonment. The section that would usually be purely Kraken not read:

Independent Missions

Ordos Desert Base - China - Neutralised - Kraken

Gobi Desert Underground Buried Base - Mongolia - Imploded - Kraken

Patagonian Ice Sheet Hidden Prisons - Chile - Released & Imploded - Basilisk

Raza (Ten Rings Leader) - Afghanistan - Neutralised - Kraken

Omar (Ten Rings Member) - Afghanistan - Neutralised - Kraken

Tahir (Ten Rings Member) - Iraq - Neutralised - Basilisk

Rafiq (Ten Rings Member) - Iraq - In Custody - Basilisk

Layth (Ten Rings Member) - Iraq - In Custody - Basilisk

He crumpled the piece of paper viciously.

Why the Hades was there Basilisk on the sheet? From what Percy had heard, he was purely an assassin. So why did he Implode the Patagonian prison? Kraken should have done that.

Harry Potter-

Harry's eyes narrowed as he tried to ignore the extraordinarily obnoxious agents that had swarmed into the lab.

He was working on one of his research papers on Quantum Leaps, whilst he was not technically a scientist at S.H.I.E.L.D, he was still fascinated by the subject. Particularly since Fury hadn't given him any missions since the one in Iraq a week ago.

A small, triumphant smile graced his lips as he remembered the debriefing paper with his alias written alongside the mighty Kraken's.

"-ou must have heard about the latest rumour!" exclaimed Agent Simmons, the blonde lab agent who was getting on Harry's nerves.

Agent Ward grunted at her. "Some of us are trying to work Jenna."

Agent Skye snorted at him and rolled her eyes. "What about you Agent...Evans? Yeah Evans. Have you heard it?"

Harry suppressed a scowl as his thoughts were dragged away from his work. "What rumour?"

Agent Skye grinned. "You remember a couple 'a months ago we were in Scotland, and we told you about the mythical Kraken?"

A confusingly dark swirl of annoyance surfaced inside Harry. "Yes." he almost bit out.

"Well," she said conspiratorially "On the latest debriefing paper, it wasn't the only name! An agent named Basilisk was there as well!"

A glimmer of pride rushed through Harry but he was careful not to let it show. "So..."

Agent Simmons rolled her eyes. "Its ridiculous really, but someone - bet it was Agent Barton, started the rumour that Kraken is actually female, and Basilisk is her lover!"

Harry choked.

"What?"

Agent Ward snorted and muttered something about the preposterousness and childishness of the human mind.

Whilst Harry was choking, the one thing that stuck in his mind, was that despite the fact that it was preposterous, Basilisk was Kraken's lover, not the other way round.

Basilisk was still very much below Kraken.

Percy Jackson-

Percy tensed imperceptibly as he sensed someone enter the shooting range. He had now mastered the art of controlling water, because of his Godly shit and all that, so he could sense the water in the body subconsciously.

He could also search using his godly senses for the life force as well, but Percy tented not to use the powers gained from the Ophiotaurus when it wasn't absolutely necessary.

He stopped firing bullets at the dummies as turned around smoothly to see who was up and down in the shooting range at 1am.

Agent Barton rises an eyebrow as he heard sounds coming from the shooting range. Seriously, who trains in the shooting range at 1am? Well, excluding him of course. He was surprised to see a man, about mid twenties with clipped back hair shooting fluently and flawlessly with deadly precision at several of the moving S.H.I.E.L.D dummies. The man showed no reaction to him entering, so he was either an amateur who hadn't even noticed; or, judging by his liquid shooting, he was so elite, that he had sensed him and noted that he wasn't a threat.

As the last shot rang out and the dummy fell with a pattern of bullets buried in its forehead, the man fluidly turned around, sheathing his gun and slipping in new bullets in one movement. His face showed no surprise at seeing him, only a raised eyebrow gave away his annoyance.

Percy looked at him searchingly, annoyed that he'd been interrupted. The sandy haired man looked slightly sheepish, he walked in cautiously, as if he'd just walked into the lion's den.

"Please don't let me keep you." he said as he strode over to the firing range at the end of the hall.

Percy watched in interest as the man picked up a peculiar metal rod. He shook it slightly, pressing a button with his right hand and it expanded into a compact metal bow.

Percy instantly blinked in surprise.

A bow?

Since when did S.H.I.E.L.D agents use bows?

He was instantly thrown back to his time as a demigod, with the hunters. Thalia. Zoë. Bianca.

All people he had failed to save.

Will Solace.

Micheal Yew.

Frank.

Nope he did not have good memories of archers.

Or archery for that matter, he remembered with a grimace the very first time he had tried to use a bow.

Chiron had lost a few tail hairs.

The man was obviously used to weird looks as he ignored Percy's incredulous expression as he strapped on his quiver.

"So who're you." the archer asked casually.

Agent Barton was confused, he ad no idea who this man was, he was obviously a professional, but he could not recall his name or even an alias.

Percy gave a small smile as he drew out a different gun from his holster, he knew someone would ask him wherever he was. He had reverted to not even giving anyone but Nick Fury or Maria Hill his alias, because people cared less about you generally if you were anonymous.

"Does it matter?" he replied back to him just as offhand.

The archer shrugged. "Sorry, just its unusual for me to see anyone else down here at this time."

Percy cricked his neck and avoided the question. "I'm usually up at this time, don't need much sleep. But I wouldn't have expected you to see me though, Nick keeps me moving so I haven't been back in the States for a couple of years."

Agent Barton couldn't help raising an eyebrow. Nick? This man was on speaking terms with Director Fury?.

Who the hell was he?

He started to shoot his arrows at the target with precision that could match Percy's, but without the same grace.

Percy tried to ignore him, but the familiar sound of arrows thwacking a target pounded in his head. He looked back at the man and remarked. "You could fire them a lot quicker if you held the arrows in your hand you know, and if you had a looser grip with your left hand."

Agent Barton stopped his training and thought about it. He could actually, the thought had never really occurred to him because he had been taught to shoot in a circus and in a circus you had to be as flashy as possible, by drawing each arrow individually.

He looked suspiciously at the black he haired man, noticing his piercing green eyes for the first time. This man was surprisingly knowledgable on archery, very few people were. "Thanks." he said, a bit lost for words.

The door opened and in strode Maria Hill, assistant Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. "Oi Kraken, Nick wants you."

Percy frowned. "Right now? At 1am?"

"Preferably 30 minutes ago." she replied, and Percy almost pouted, Nick was always cranky when he was late.

He glared at her. "You did that deliberately."

She smiled. "Of course I did, he's in a bad mood, its better if he vents his anger on you, not me, cause you don't do anything anyway."

Percy clutched his heart in mock offence. "Why doth thou wound me so?" he exclaimed, slipping away his guns. "Well, if I'm dead tomorrow it'll be entirely your fault."

Maria snickered and followed Percy out the room leaving Agent Barton gobsmacked in the centre of the room.

Kraken!

He had just seen the living S.H.I.E.L.D legend!

And he wasn't a woman, he fought dejectedly, he had been so sure that Kraken was a woman.

Harry Potter-

Harry couldn't sleep, the ridiculous rumour was still flying around his head. He groaned and pulled himself up from the bed.

If he couldn't sleep he may as well do something useful, he walked down to the shooting range on the third floor to practice his knife throwing, it needed some serious work.

A sandy haired man clutching a bow stood in the middle of the room with a look of utter shock on his face.

He looked even more confused as Harry walked in. "Back already?" he asked almost reverently.

Harry was so confused. "What? I only just came down here."

Agent Barton frowned and then deflated. "Oh. There was this other dude down here a second ago. Looked a lot like you. Black hair, green eyes. And you moved the same way."

Harry raised an eyebrow. "We moved the same way?"

He nodded. "Smoothly. Like a cat or something. And silently as well."

"So...okay. He was an assassin?" Harry concluded, a bit wary of the sandy haired man who was still staring at him intently.

"Yeah." he said in an awed voice.

Harry looked at him in bewilderment. "Well, most assassins move like this y'know...and S.H.I.E.L.D had a lot of assassins."

The man nodded and then straightened slightly, like he'd just snapped out a daze.

Agent Barton grinned internally, he could boast to someone that he'd seen the S.H.I.E.L.D legend!

"But, he wasn't any assassin." he said. The man looked up at Agent Barton and he noticed that he had slightly longer hair than Kraken and his eyes were slightly darker, but a shocking green nonetheless.

Harry "Mmmhmmed?" in enquiry as he drew his throwing knives, to practice with.

"It was Kraken."

Harry's head snapped up. Kraken?

Kraken was in this building? In this State?

Of course he was, thought Harry excitedly, the debriefing for the Ten Rings mission was yesterday so he must have been here to collect the debriefing sheet even if he didn't go to the debriefing meeting, like Harry did.

"You saw Kraken?"

Agent Barton grinned smugly at the man. He noted that he had a slighter and more lithe form than Kraken did, and wasn't quite as tall. But they had the same sort of graceful, powerful aura that screamed "Don't fuck with me" even more than Agent Romanoff's did.

"That I did."

The black haired man studied him intently, but said nothing.

Agent Barton's smirk started to to fade and he began tp grow uncomfortable under his emerald gaze that drilled into him, giving away no emotion.

"So you mentioned that you were and assassin?" Agent Barton cringed slightly at his weak attempt at drawing away the man's gaze.

Suddenly the man smirked at him and Agent Barton caught a hint of smugness in the emerald eyes. "That I did." he parroted back at him.

Harry turned away from the man, waiting of him to rise to the bait - he knew he would. Harry would tell that this man had a tad too much curiosity. He started to throw six of his knives.

Five of them fell into the perfect formation of a cross inside the red bullseye. He then couldn't help thinking, why not show off a bit, show him that Basilisk can be just as deadly as Kraken.

His last knife flew straight and hit the hilt of the centre knife of the formation with such force that it broke through the metal backing of the target, shot out and buried itself in the wall behind the target.

Agent Barton's mouth fell open once more.

"Who are you?" he whispered.

The man, who had just performed an amazing feat, grinned dangerously at Agent Barton, his emerald eyes drilling into him.

"I have been called many names, but I go by Basilisk."

He strode out, deciding to go hunting for Kraken. Whilst he might be a rival, he was still someone who Harry would love to meet.

Agent Barton fainted.

Percy Jackson-

"And why the hell are you so late." barked Fury irritably as Percy walked into Fury's 'preaching' room (aptly named by Percy).

Percy sniggered at him. "Maria's fault Nick."

Fury glared at him. "How many timed to I have to tell you, you are my subordinate, you're supposed to respect me."

Percy tsked. "Nu uh, I am your assassin. Assassins do whatever the fuck they want. And this assassin wants to know why the fuck you wanted to see me at 1 in the fucking morning."

Fury raised an eyebrow. "Already swearing, you must be in a shitty mood."

"Its 1 in the fucking morning Nick, of course I'm in a shitty mood." replied Percy as he flopped down on the Director's chair.

Fury glared at him.

Percy glared back.

Fury snorted. "Don't give me that bullshit Jackson, I know you were up anyway. And I need to promote you of course I need to be as inconvenient as possible."

Percy looked at him disbelievingly. "You still pissed at me about that?"

Fury sat down and gave him a look that said. 'No shit.'

"Oh, come on, it was just trifle!"

"In my face!"

"You shouldn't have been standing there!"

"You shouldn't have been having a food fight!"

"I didn't start it!

"You still participated in it!"

Maria Hill stuck her head in. "Oi some of us have work to do so can you kids shut up."

Percy snickered at Fury's displeased face. "Hey Maria, isn't Nick being a baby? I mean, it was an accident and it was quite a nice trifle!"

"You still on about that?" Maria asked Fury. "You shipped him of to China, isn't that enough?"

"No of course not, he ruined my reputation!"

"What reputation?"

"Excuse you! I'll have you know tha-"

"Hey didn't you say that you were gonna promote me?" interjected Percy.

Fury sighed. "Unfortunately."

He drew some papers from a cabinet from under his desk as Maria walked back out, rolling her eyes (boys). "Look Jackson, as much as I hate to admit it, you are one of our best agents."

Percy internally swelled with pride - take that Basilisk.

"And I can't have you being all ninja and assassin-y if you only deal with human issues." he lectured.

"Only human issues?" he questioned. Had S.H.I.E.L.D finally discovered the massive floating city of Olympus about New York?

"I'm promoting you up to level 14. You get to deal with magic, mutants and other supernatural shit that S.H.I.E.L.D usually deals with. All of S.H.I.E.L.D hears what the public hears and listens to the rumours, but at level 14, you get to know the truth. And you also get to deal with it."said Fury, dropping a bunch of paperwork in front of Percy.

Percy picked them up, looking over them and gave a low whistle. "Telepathy. Super agility. Wings. Super strength. Super shit. What makes you think that I can deal with this super shit?"

"Because I am pretty certain that you're a mutant. And you know it too."

"What?" Percy stared at Fury, the room felt slightly colder and the conversation suddenly became serious.

How had Fury come to that conclusion? Percy had been extremely careful not to use any powers in S.H.I.E.L.D's presence, he hadn't done anything vaguely suspicious...at least he thought so.

Fury nodded. "I had Black Widow analyse some of Kraken's missions, using you reports, blueprints of bases and building plans, and we came to the conclusion that what you are doing...is impossible."

Percy raised an eyebrow. "Impossible."

Fury nodded in confirmation. "Now take your mission in Mongolia, you imploded an underground base. I read through it and thought something felt a bit off, so I had Black Widow have a look at them, and she confirmed that it wasn't physically feasible to carry out all the tasks in your report in the timescale that you did."

Percy's face slipped into his unreadable assassin's mask.

His mind was whirling, what the Hades was he gonna say, he couldn't suddenly reveal to Fury that there was a whole other world of Gods and monsters living alongside mortals. And besides, Zeus would probably try and seal him in the Underworld if he did - (Percy wouldn't give a shit if he was cast out of Olympus - he hadn't even been there since he had been made a God).

Should he just deny it all? But that wouldn't work because Fury seemed to have solid evidence.

Maybe he should just free with Fury. Say that he was a mutant.

Judging by the papers in front of him, there was no way that anyone would be able to distinguish his Godly powers from mutant powers. Maybe mutants were just unclaimed demigod children with strong powers.

But then again probably not, and he was losing his train of thought he chastised himself.

Fury was talking about something, he held up Percy's mission report of the Mongolian underground base.

"In your report you stated that you travelled up three floors to rig the explosives and attach the sim of the miniature bomb into the power core on the seventh level. She said that you could not have climbed those three floors to attach the sim before the explosives below exploded as they were on a 5 second timer. You could not have tampered with the countdown because there was a lock on it that would have taken you 20 minutes to open - I have your training scores. There were no secret passageways or ventilation shafts. You must have gotten there some other way that a Black Widow, spy trained by the Soviet Union since the age of 9, could not work out."

Fury paused for breath. "So my friend, what is your secret?"

Percy stared levelly back at Fury, holding his gaze. After a long stretch of silence, Fury's gaze hardened. "You are not leaving here until you tell me."

Percy pursed his lips, considering his options. "What happened to your eye?"

Fury blinked and looked at him strangely. "That was a crap attempt at changing the subject...and why are you asking now? I've had an eyepatch for years now."

Percy shrugged. "Don't mind me, I'm just weird, and what did happen to it."

"Stop changing the subject!" snarled Fury. "You cannot leave until. You. Tell. Me."

Percy watched him. His best option at the moment was to say that he was a mutant. What powers would he say he had? Teleportation definitely, to explain the mission, water powers because why not, and hmm something else. Technically, using his Godly powers he had a whole host of different powers, including reading thoughts, summoning things, being in multiple places at once, influencing peoples thoughts, possessing people...and countless other things that Percy wasn't really sure about.

Percy smiled offputtingly at Fury. "You wouldn't be able to stop me anyway." he said softly.

Fury froze, looking at Percy warily.

Percy smiled. "I can teleport. And I have hydrokinesis."

Fury revealed a lot of emotions for someone who was the head of a super spying organisation. His face was a mix of triumph, fear, suspicion and pride.

"And I have only ever done it once, but I can sprout wings if I try hard enough." he added thoughtfully.

"I knew it!" he exclaimed, and then frowned. "Well, the teleporting bit, not the other two. Definitely not the wings one."

There was another stretch of awkward silence.

Then Fury asked almost tentatively. "You are only working on the side of S.H.I.E.L.D, correct?"

Percy laughed. "Don't worry Nick. I have nothing else in my life now anyway." he used this as an opportunity to spin a web to explain his slow ageing,"I guess I have another power that involves ageing really slowly as well. Most of my friends are dead."

Fury sighed in relief. "Your your not a spy then?"

Percy snorted. "That's a rubbish question Nick. Of course I'm a spy, a S.H.I.E.L.D spy and even if I was some mutant spy, I wouldn't say 'yes' to a question like that."

Fury glared at him. "Shut it Jackson, I think I've seen you for much too long this year, I think I'll send you to go annoy the mutants before I die from irritation."

Percy got up to leave and then gave a wicked grin. "Now you know about my powers, I can come teleport to you anytime I want."

Fury paled.

"Get outta my office now and- just get lost Jackson."

Harry Potter-

Harry was rather disappointed to find most of the corridors empty, no sign of the elusive Kraken.

As he wondered past Director Fury's office, Maria Hill walked out, yawning and carrying a huge pile of paperwork. She blinked blearily at him for a second and then she smiled brightly.

"Evans!"

Harry chuckled and gestured to her papers. "Where are your lackeys Maria? Don't you even have enough underlings to carry around your paperwork? Bad form if you ask me."

She laughed tiredly. "Ah, none of those idiots are classified enough to handle this crap. Anyway, I should have expected you to be up at this time. Fury needs you at his office at 5:30am today."

Harry nodded. No doubt Fury had another mission for him. "Ok-" Harry wondered if Maria would know who Kraken was. She ought to, seeing as she was the assistant director. "Have you seen Kraken anywhere?"

Maria paused, looking astonished. "Kraken? You know him?"

Harry shook his head. "No but I heard he was around. Wish I did know him. Maybe I'll get to work with him sometime."

Raising a disbelieving eyebrow, Maria said. "You're a Doctor Evans, you work in the labs."

Harry laughed, shaking his head. "Keep up Maria, you're years behind...I guess that means only Fury knows of my new line of work."

"And that is?"

"I'm a Secret Agent Maria." he smirked."Ever heard of Basilisk?"

He started down the corridor and grinned at Maria's squeak of "No fucking way!"

When he was out of sight, he apparated back to his bed, knowing that he ought to get as much sleep as possible before the mission in a few hours.

Percy Jackson-

After opening the door to get out of Fury's preaching office, Percy was forced back inside as Maria rushed back in like a whirlwind.

She looked rather lost.

Her gaze fell on Percy and she said in a slightly faltering voice. "Did you know, there was an agent out there looking for Kraken."

Fury, annoyed that he had to stay awake for even longer growled. "How is this relevant Hill?"

She almost dropped her paperwork as she rounded on him. "You never told me he was Basilisk!"

It took Percy a second to piece together Maria's sleep deprived hysteria. Percy's head snapped up, staring at Maria intently.

"You saw Basilisk?"

Basilisk was in this building? Probably in the corridor outside. Looking for Kraken.

Looking for him.

How intriguing.

Percy bolted out the door into the empty corridor, scanning the place for the mysterious Basilisk.

Damn.

He ran down the hallway but failed to find anyone that looked even vaguely like him (he remembered that Viper had said that Basilisk had green eyes and black hair).

He cursed and vapour travelled up to his room, wishing that Maria had actually directed Basilisk to him because whilst he was a rival, he was still someone who Percy would love to meet.

Harry Potter-

Harry arrived back at Fury's office at 5:28am after about 4 hours sleep (not that Harry actually needed sleep, what with him being the immortal Master of Death and all, but it was nice to rest once in a while).

The door opened, and Director Fury stood there looking extremely tired (muttering something about 'batshit insane mutants' or something).

He looked at Harry "Evans, I need to go to a meeting in 2 minutes and Coulson is out of the country so I'm taking you because Jackson cannot sit still in meetings and Maria actually has work to do. "

Harry nodded slowly. "So...is it an important meeting?"

Fury nodded and then walked back into his office and drew out some papers and handed them to Harry.

Harry raised an eyebrow. "Level 14?"

"That's right." sighed Fury. "Supernatural shit like mutants and magic whoop de doo you get to deal with it now."

Harry froze. Magic?

"So uh this is a level 14 meeting?" he asked cautiously.

Fury nodded absently and then started off down the corridor with Harry walking nervously behind him.

"Who is it with?" he asked, dreading the answer that Fury was going to give him.

"The Minister of Magic from Wizarding America and Britain, they are trying to form a peace treaty and the American Minister has requested our help."

Harry could have sworn his heart stopped beating. "What the bloody hell? What made you think I would be the right person to come to this meeting?"

Fury looked at him seriously. "Because, Evans you are one of our best agents, and unlike most, you know how to keep a secret."

Harry gulped. Who was the Minister of Britain? Would he know them? "Uh, Nick, I really don't think I'm the best person to have at a meeting about...wizards."

"Nonsense, you'd be perfect. Well, better than Jackson anyway." he added on as a mutter as he pushed open the board room door.

Inside stood a man with blonde hair in a grey suit and a young man with brown hair in a black suit. Harry didn't recognise either of them, he thanked God.

Fury gestured for them to sit down.

"Welcome to the S.H.I.E.L.D Headquarters. I am Director Nicolas Fury and I am the guy in charge around here. This is one of my very best agents, Special Agent James Evans. Evans I would like you to meet the American Minister of Magic, Thomas Clary, and the British Minister of Magic Theodore Lupin."

Harry froze, his gaze locking onto the brown haired young man.

Lupin.

Theodore Lupin.

Teddy Lupin.

His godson.

Shit.

Teddy Lupin had come to this meeting not really seeing the point of coming to some muggle building to organise a magical treaty, but he accepted it nonetheless. As Director Fury introduced them, he eyed the man next to him, dressed in Black uniform with the S.H.I.E.L.D logo over his heart, he moved gracefully, like a predator. He looked like an assassin, Teddy shivered.

When Fury said Teddy's name, Special Agent James Evans' head snapped up, and his eyes locked onto Teddy's.

Teddy looked into those eyes. They wear a very unique almond shape and they were a shocking green, like the eyes...like the eyes in the pictures of his godfather.

Harry Potter.

Teddy gasped.

Harry's father had been called James Potter and his mother had been called Lily Evans.

Was this...could this be their missing Saviour? The one who's body was never found but was presumed dead?

Harry's mind went blank when Teddy gasped. He recognised him.

Shit shit shit shit shit.

What the hell did he do now?

Fury was frowning at the scene as the British Minister of Magic's eyes flickered in recognition when he saw James Evans.

Suddenly Harry's brain kick started. He had family! Teddy was alive! He was so grown up.

Harry flinched mentally when he realised that he hadn't been around to see it.

"Harry?" Teddy asked quietly, as if he didn't believe what he was saying.

The American Minister frowned in confusion and then put the pieces together. Harry? This man, James Evans did look remarkably like Britain's Boy-Who-Lived martyr, Harry Potter. But he was a martyr right?

Could it be?

"Teddy?" Harry asked quietly in return.

Teddy gave muffled sob, he was alive! Harry Potter was alive! His godfather!

Being very undignified but Teddy couldn't care less, he threw himself at Harry clinging to him in a hug.

Harry stiffened, he hadn't been hugged...for about 20 years. Eventually he relaxed and risked a glance at Fury, who looked bewildered.

"What. The. Fuck. Just happened?" Fury demanded.

Teddy murmured. "Harry, why did you leave! The Wizarding World's been a mess, especially since the battle, I was told no one survived. Why did you leave! I was told so much about you and I thought you were dead. Why did you leave?"

Harry grimaced, averting his eyes. His mind worked furiously trying to think of a way of explaining what had happened. Damn Teddy, he had spent so long ensuring that no one would ever discover his secret for as long as he lived (eternity), and he had to go and blow it all.

Suddenly Teddy seemed to control himself again and he abruptly stood back, looking slightly ashamed of himself. Then his eyes started to darken in anger. "Why did you leave?" he hissed.

Harry sighed. Teddy was going throught the 5 stages of grief, it was clear that there was no way of getting out of this.

He turned to Fury. "Really sorry Nick, but we're gonna have to back up a bit. I apologise Minister but this won't take a minute."

He turned back to Teddy and flicked his hand, not even concentrating as he wandlessly and nonverbally casting a silencing and obscuring charm.

Harry bit his lip and stared at the floor. How had he forgotten about Teddy? Guilt started to swallow him up. Maybe he had tried to forget everything from his old life, but he houldn't have ever forgotten his own Godson!

Hell, Sirius had never forgotten him and he had lived in Azkaban for 13 fucking years.

"It's-" his voice broke slightly. "It's a long story, but I ought to tell you now because otherwise- because otherwise I won't be able to live with myself. And given how long I have to live...yeah I should tell you now."

Teddy stared at the young man in front of him What Harry had just said rang in his head given how long I have to live, what did he mean by that?

Teddy looked at him properly and was astonished to find that Harry looked only years older than himself. He didn't look like he had aged a day past 24.

How was that possible?

Teddy knew for a fact that Harry had been born 17 years before him - everyone in the Wizarding World knew Harry Potters birthdate.

"Why did you leave?" Teddy whispered.

Harry looked like he was drowning guilt and shame, and Teddy suddenly vivdly remembered what Lord Draco Malfoy, one of the only survivors of the battle had said about Harry.

Harry Potter was such an angst machine. Even growing up as his childhood rival, I could see that. If it was possible to blame himself for something, he would. Hell, even if it was impossible for him to blame himself for it, he would anyway, because that's they way he was raised. I never found out until my later years, just how bad his childhood had been. His aunt and uncle made him think that everything that went wrong in the household was his fault. Those muggles, they were horrible horrible filth. A prime example as to-

Teddy had stopped listening there as he did not want to hear Lord Malfoy's preachings about how filthy some muggles were, no matter how true it was about the horrible creatures that used to be Harry's family.

Looking at Harry now, Teddy could literally see his thoughts of self-loathing and contempt for himself suffocating him.

Teddy tried to be angry at Harry, he really did, this was the man who was supposed to be the Saviour of the Wizarding World. His godfather, and he had not only abandoned Wizarding Britain, but Teddy himself, leaving Teddy to grow up as one of the countless orphans of the war.

There were of course wizards and witches still in Britain, there were the neutral ones, the ones that didn't reach the fight in time, the ones that had temporarily been out of the country, and the ones who couldn't fight and so had been elsewhere at the time of everyone else's deaths.

Teddy had been raised in an orphanage.

And of course the ones like Lord Malfoy who had left the battle before the end, apparated away before they could be shot down as well.

No one else had survived the war. They found their bodies lying there in the ruins of Hogwarts, weeks after the battle for everyone had been too fearful of what happened to even approach it.

Teddy's mother and father had been two of those bodies.

But they had never found the body of Harry Potter.

They found the shrivelled corpse of Voldemort himself, but nothing was left of Harry Potter.

So Harry Potter, the boy-no, man who blamed everything on himself must have fled the battle, blaming everyone's deaths on himself.

"I thought you wouldn't want me. No one would. Not after what happened. I knew the Wizarding world would hate me."

Teddy stared at Harry. He knew that Harry should not blame himself for anything - he had done so much good that nothing he could have done could possibly cancel it out. Teddy had spent months researching Harry, trying to find more out about his famous dead godfather - he had been astonished to find out just how much he had to go through.

He was sort of surprised that he was still sane even at 12, after facing a 50 foot long Basilisk, anyone should have the right to be a bit insane.

"What do you mean? Of course we wouldn't have done! You being alive would be rejoiced. All the survivors were celebrated, even Lord Malfoy! Who had been on the Dark side."

Harry stared at Teddy. "Draco's alive? He's a Lord?"

Draco had survived? Of course! After Harry had told Narcissa about Draco being alive, she must have taken him immediately back out of Hogwarts. So he couldn't have been killed...killed by him.

Harry hung his head, being pulled back into his thoughts of self loathing.

Master, stop this at once.

Harry jumped slightly at Death's voice. He hadn't spoken to Death for a couple of days, not since his last mission. He glanced at Teddy to find him with his wand in his hand looking around warily.

"Who's there!" he said coldly, trying to work out if this wispy, soft voice was a threat to his long lost godfather.

Harry's eyes widened. "You can hear her?"

Harry had established long ago that Death could take on any form it wished, but it preferred to take the female form. But never before had anyone been able to hear her.

Death snorted. Of course they haven't, I haven't spoken out loud when you've been in any other magical's presence.

Harry groaned, so why was Death speaking now if she knew Teddy would hear her.

Teddy frowned at Harry, "Yeah...? Who is she?"

Harry groaned and glanced at Fury and Minister Thomas Clary. Fury had paled and was staring at Harry disbelievingly whilst Clary seemed to be explaining something.

"Right so..."

"...so, just to recap, you're telling me that you're now immortal, Death's literally your best friend, you are a super secret muggle spy and you have no intention of returning back to Wizarding Britain." concluded Teddy.

Harry hesitated. "Well, I had had no intention. But now...I suppose...if you'll have me..."

Teddy smiled warmly. "Of course we will Harry! But still- wow, you're still alive."

Harry smiled tentatively, for the first time in a long time, he felt truly happy. His heart started to thaw from the frozen status Harry had forced upon it ever since tat fateful day that ended the last battle.

He gulped suddenly. "We, should probably, uh, go back..." he gestured to Fury and Clary.

He dropped the privacy charms and almost flinched as Fury's glare came down upon him.

"So, Evans- or should I say- Potter, start explaining."

Harry licked his suddenly dry lips and protested weakly. "I don't think that's the best idea Nic- sir. What with Minister Clary and Ted- Minister Lupin having to create a peace treaty."

"Nonsense." came the smooth voice of the blond American Minister. "I'd quite like to hear the story myself."

Harry froze. Did he really have to explain his story to this complete stranger? I got having to explain it to Fury, he had known Fury for longer than he had known anyone in the Wizarding World. But Minister Clary?

Damn he was trapped, if he refused then it could affect the peace treaty that Teddy was trying to create with Minister Clary.

"Right so..."

Harry of course left out the 'Master of Death' part, instead saying that he had believed that most of the British Wizarding World had died in the battle and had tried to forge a new life in America, which he basically had done.

Teddy left the meeting feeling elated at the prospect of getting to know his long lost godfather.

Minister Clary left the meeting feeling intrigued to know how Britain had let their boy saviour slip through their fingers so easily.

Fury left the meeting feeling satisfied with the peace treaties and not really sure how to feel about the latest revelation.

Harry left the meeting and immediately collapsed in his bed, his entire perspective of the world and his future had just dramatically changed. He couldn't wait and go and see everyone else in the magical world. He also mentally cursed Death for being so annoying.

Percy Jackson-

It was about 10:00pam and Percy was glaring at the stack of paperwork in his hand. Seriously, why did he still have to do this?

His mind was still whirling slightly on Basilisk, he had been so close to seeing him earlier. He slipped through his fingers.

Suddenly, a slightly dazed looking Fury stuck his head into his office.

"Yo Jackson, you're flying out to New Mexico now, we need you out there right now."

Percy rises an eyebrow, "Can't I just teleport there now?"

Fury backpedalled.

Right.

Oh yeah.

Jackson was a mutant.

So much had happened this morning that it had slipped his mind.

"I knew that" he muttered.

Percy laughed, "Something wrong Nick?"

Fury scowled t him. "Shut your infernal trap, its been a long morning. You need to go to the New Mexico base and get directed to a certain spot in the New Mexico Desert where you'll find a temporary base has been erected. Find Coulson, you're there strictly as security for the weird supernatural object that was found there earlier. Some more scientists will be sent you're way soon anyway so you'll be fine there."

"Coulson?" asked Percy making a face.

Fury lifted an eyebrow. "What's wrong with Coulson?"

"He's so emotionless and serious all the time like does he have any-"

"You're pretty stoic all the time."

"But I'm an assassin! I'm allowed to be stoic."

Fury paused. "So you're telling me Coulson is not allowed to be emotionless because he's not an assassin?"

"Duh."

"..."

Fury shook his head. "Just get out of here Jackson I really couldn't care less, I need a nap."

Percy grinned. "Aye aye cap'n." and promptly vapour travelled to New Mexico.

Fury stared at his empty seat for a second and couldn't help thinking just how many things would explode if Percy Jackson ever met James Ev- no Harry Potter.

His eyes suddenly widened comically as he realised that Harry had been sent to the New Mexico Desert Base as Doctor Evans to help the astrophysics investigation of the supernatural hammer earlier that day.

Knowing Percy and knowing Harry, they were bound to run into each other- they were both drawn to danger.

Fury walked out of Percy's office hoping that the New Mexico Desert Base would still be standing tomorrow.

So Fury went to bed that night quite satisfied that he had a powerful and loyal mutant and a powerful and loyal wizard under his command.

Little did he suspect that they were actually so much more.

The God of Sacrifice and Loyalty.

And the Master of Death.

Choose out of:

(1) Harry/Female & Percy/Female [you can suggest a pairing in your vote if you want] and Harry and Percy being like brothers

(2) Harry/Percy SLASH [nothing else to be said]

Please post your vote as a review and it will be running up until I post the next chapter! (In which Harry and Percy will actually meet for the first time, but as a security guard and a scientist, as they investigate Thor's hammer [you'll have to wait until they find Captain America for them to meet as Basilisk and Kraken!].
