Edward POV
"Emmett, leave me alone!" I sighed. Ever since Carlisle took away all his possible free time activities an hour ago, he has been getting on my nerves. All I wanted was to go to Bella's house to spend some time with her. But Emmett wouldn't let me go, he wanted company since he was bored. I sighed again. "Emmett, why don't you try reading a book and get out of my hair? You can borrow one of mine if you want, but please just let me go. I really want to see Bella." Emmett looked like he thought about it for a second, the he shrugged and strolled over to my bookshelf while he said: "Alright, I'll try this reading thing. I hope it's fun, bro. Because if you trick me, I will get back to you!" I could only shake my head at his behavior. But before he could change his mind, I was out the door and in my car. Off to Bella's house. Finally. I smiled at the thought of seeing my beautiful angel again.
Esme POV
When I came home from school, I saw Emmett sitting on the couch in the living room, reading a book. Confused, I stayed in the doorway for a moment. He didn't seem to notice I was there, so I watched him for a while. I wasn't sure if I ever saw Emmett reading a book before, so I just wanted to take this picture in.
After a few minutes I heard someone coming down the stairs and turned around to see my husband. I smiled at him and he quickly made his way over to where I was standing and greeted me with a short peck on the lips. "Hey honey. How was work today?" he asked me with his famous sweet smile on his lips. "Fine. Nothing special and no catastrophes. Thank God!" He chuckled, but when his eyes fell on Emmett sitting on the couch, he sighed and shook his head. "What is it? Did he get in trouble again? And what is with the book?" I wanted to know. Carlisle motioned for me to follow him and we went upstairs to our room. We sat on our own little couch together, I cuddled into his side and he put his arms around me, smiling down at me. Then his face turned serious and he sighed again before telling me: "You remember Emmett's behavior in gym class the other day?" I nodded. "Well, he promised that it was a one-time experience and I let him go with a warning to keep his promise. And today, he did the same thing again. So I decided to take away all of his beloved media plus two weeks of grounding. I know it will be a tough time for all of us, but I think it's the only way he understands. And the thing with the book is easy: I heard how he got on Edward's nerves who wanted to go see Bella. But because Emmett wouldn't let him go, he offered him a book so that he would be occupied and Edward could go over to Bella." Yes, that sounded like Emmett. Trying to fill his free time, no matter if the other person wants to or not. I shook my head, then I looked into Carlisle's eyes and reassured him: "It is the only way. And I know he will probably get on our nerves for the next two weeks, but you made the right decision." He smiled at me and put his hand to my cheek. I smiled back at him, closed my eyes and nestled my face into his palm, sighing contently.
Emmett POV
I jumped when I felt a hand on my shoulder. Geez, this reading stuff really gets to me. I didn't notice anything that was going on around me. Weird. That didn't even happen while I played my beloved video games. Really, this is amazing! I should do this more often. "EMMETT!" I jumped again and turned around. "Jesus Christ, Rose. Do you have to scare me like that?" "Em, I called you several times but you didn't answer. What is going on? I never even saw you touching or looking at a book before." Sheepishly, I replied: "Carlisle took away all my stuff because I showed off in gym class again. So I didn't have much choice here. And Edward wanted to go see Bella, so he told me to grab one of his books and try reading. And now, here I am. I'm not sure why I didn't hear you, I guess I was too far into the story, it's really a great one." Rosie just sighed and shook her head, but the she sat down beside me and leaned against me. I put my arm around her. She smiled at me, then she asked: "Please, read to me. If the story is so great, I want to hear it, too." I was confused. "But babe, you still are allowed to use the TV, the computer and all this kind of stuff. Why would you want to stay here and endure a punishment that wasn't meant for you?" "Em, you're my mate. I love spending time with you. And you know that I don't like the video games, so this will be a very relaxing time for me, too." I chuckled and dropped a kiss on her head. She snuggled into my side and I picked up the book and started reading it out loud. Oh, how I love my Rosie.
