The day had finally come for Tori to leave the hospital, having finally been cleared by the doctors to leave. She had been there for just over a week but she understood why they would keep her there, what with giving birth right after being in a car wreak, and with their apartment finally in view, Tori couldn't wait to get inside and sit down on the couch with Michelle in her arms.
"Careful Tori," Jade cautioned as they walked up the stairs, adjusting the baby bag on her shoulder and making sure to stay directly behind Tori should she fall.
Tori rolled her eyes at her girlfriend's continual worries with the current situation. She knew that the pale skin girl was simply doing what she can to make sure her family was okay, and in the beginning it was endearing, but it was starting to get old.
"Jade I told you, Michelle and I are fine the doctors cleared us for a reason you know," Tori assured her lover, smiling a bit as she spotted a blush covering Jade's cheeks, "but thank you for your concern love."
Jade shook her head, annoyed that she was acting this way in front of her daughter even though she knew her daughter didn't know any better and was more preoccupied with a lock of Tori's hair. Still she had her reasons for being this way namely almost losing the love of her life, and yes she was willing to admit she loved Tori, and almost losing her daughter in the process. Before she could get too lost in her thoughts though a small kiss to the cheek brought her back to reality, Jade looking up to see Tori standing there with her ever present smile.
"Don't go too far into your mind, you might not find your way out of that deranged labyrinth. "
Jade snorted at this and shook her head once again.
"Making fun of me Vega, careful now don't want to start something you can't finish," she teased, enjoying the giggle that came from the half Latina.
"And what are you going to do about it huh West?" Tori challenged with a smirk, "if I recalled I just carried our daughter for nine months so I doubt you'll do anything to me."
"Maybe not physically," Jade replied wrapping her arm around Tori's waist, "but I can tease you in other ways."
Tori giggled and the family made their way up the stairs to their apartment, Jade opening the and allowing the other two in before walking in and setting the bag on the table in hallway. Looking up she noticed that Tori was already nowhere to be seen. Frowning she walked down the hallway and glanced in the kitchen to see that it was empty before glancing the other way into the livingroom. The sight that greeted the goth girl made her heart melt a little bit as she watched Tori set a sleeping Michelle down in a playpen that they had purchased for her abuela and abuelo purchased for her. Michelle soon had a blanket draped on top of her, something that Tori's mom had purchased to go with the playpen, and her tiny hands grabbing at the fabric.
"She looks peaceful," Jade muttered walking over to her girlfriend and looking down at her offspring.
"I wouldn't get too use to it, my mom told me that moments like this are rare," Tori smiled, leaning against the thespian.
"True, might as well get some rest while we can right?"
Tori nodded and the two laid down on the nearby couch, Jade pulling Tori down on top of her and allowing Tori to rest her head against her shoulder. As they laid there Tori closed her eyes and listened to Jade's slow breathing her head turned so that she was looking at Michelle sleeping in the playpen.
"We're finally a family," she whispered smiling softly.
"Yeah," Jade replied wrapping her arms around Tori's waist, "kind of surreal isn't it?"
"Just a bit," the half Latina agreed.
The two looked into each other's eyes and giggled, Tori leaning up and giving Jade a small kiss before laying her head down again and closing her eyes. Jade waited for a few moments, just enough time to know that her girlfriend was asleep, and gently lifted Tori off of her. Setting her back down on the couch Jade walked into the kitchen and started to work on making them something to eat.
'Let's see what do we have here?' Jade wondered as she looked through the fridge, 'hm… looks like we have enough her to make some spaghetti, maybe some spaghetti red.'
With a plan in mind Jade started working on their dinner, boiling water for the pasta while she prepared the meat for the chili. As the meat browned the thespian poured the noodles into the boiling water, humming to herself when she heard the telltale sign that her daughter was starting to wake up. The sudden sound of a crying infant made the pale skin girl look up and set her utensils down before she heard a grunt come from the living room and the sound of movement. Figuring that Tori had it under control for the moment Jade turned back and started back on dinner when the two most important girls in her life walked in.
"So how long of a nap did you get?" Jade asked with a small smirk.
"Hm? Oh about twenty minutes," Tori replied with a quick glance at the clock, "something smells good in here."
"Spaghetti red," Jade told her, "it will be done in about half an hour."
"Okay," Tori replied shifting her hold on her squirming child, "that should be more then enough time for me to feed Michelle, I think that's why she woke up."
Jade nods with a smile and goes back to cooking while Tori sat down at their small table to feed their baby girl. As the thespian cooked she glanced at her girlfriend and felt her face heat up as she noticed Tori had her shirt and part of her bra lifted up as Michelle ate her fill. Seeing the blush on her girlfriend's face the singer couldn't help but make her giggle.
"Problem?"
Jade shook her head and flashed her signature smirk towards the two.
"Of course not, why would there be?" she asked, Tori returning the grin.
"Oh I don't know, maybe because you haven't taken your eyes off my breast since I started to feed Michelle," Tori teased, the blush returning to Jade's face in full force.
Jade sputtered, trying her best to come up with a comeback but finding that each time she opened her mouth the words would come out as a series of jumbled words. Tori giggled once more and blew a kiss towards Jade, shifting Michelle so she could burp her, Jade handing her a blanket to avoid a mess. After Michelle had her fill the tiny West child fell asleep once more and allowed the two to sit down and eat their dinner. The two talked about different things while they ate their dinner, mostly stuff about friends, family, and school, all the while their eyes would every now and again dart over to the playpen in the living room across the hallway.
"She beautiful Tori," Jade whispered taking a hold of Tori's hand.
"Yeah," Tori agreed with a smile, "somehow she looks like the perfect mixture of us."
"I think she looks more like you," the thespian remarked, "though it did appears she has my eyes."
"Yep," the singer replied, smirking at her girlfriend, "hopefully she won't have your body shape when she grows up."
"Hey what's wrong with the shape of my body?"
"Nothing sweetie," Tori giggled kissing her, "I would love to show you my appreciation for your body."
"You just had a baby Tori, think you better hold off on that," Jade grinned, poking Tori's nose.
Tori giggled and took their plates, placing them in the dishwasher before heading back into the living room to check on Michelle. The thespian however walked down the hallway and into their bedroom, opening up the drawer on her bedside table and pulling out a small velvet box. Sitting on the bed the West girl opened the box and looked down at the ring nestled inside of it. The gold band and the shining stones on top of it glimmered in the light of the room, Jade pulling it out and turning it over in her fingers.
'This was the same ring my dad proposed to my mom with,' she thought nervously, 'and now it's going...going to be the ring I propose to Tori with.'
She placed the ring back into it's box, setting it down and placing her head in her hands.
"But when should I do it?"
"When should you do what Jade?"
Jade looked up and saw Tori standing in the doorway, Michelle in her arms squealing in joy when she saw Jade. Jade didn't get a chance to answer as Tori noticed the small box on the bedside table, the ring inside shining. Seeing that Tori had noticed the ring Jade stammered trying to come up with an explanation
"Tori it's not what you…"
"Is...is that a...a engagement ring?" the half Latina asked quietly.
"...Yeah," Jade muttered nervously, "my dad gave me this on Christmas, asked me to use it to propose to you."
Tori nodded, a small blush covering her face as she set Michelle on the bed next to Jade.
"I see," she said sitting down, keeping one hand near Michelle, "and were you planning on using it?"
"I…I mean I was," the pale girl admitted, "when we were ready."
Tori nodded and picked up the ring, looking it over carefully and admiring it's beauty. She knew that they had talked about getting married sometime after high school, and she knew that they loved each other, even if they've only dated for about nine months. So seeing the ring though made it that much more real to her.
"It's a beautiful ring," Tori said handing it back to her.
"Thanks, it was the same ring my granddad used to propose to my grandma," Jade explained, "and that my dad used to propose to my mom."
"Jade," Tori whispered blushing.
"I was in here, wondering when the right time to ask would be," Jade admitted looking back at Michelle, "I mean, we've only been dating since the start of this experiment, but we have a kid together and that seemed like a pretty good reason to get married."
"Yeah but I don't want to marry you just because we have a child together Jade," the singer told her girlfriend, "I want us to get married because we love each other, I mean I know we've talked about it when we found out I was pregnant with Michelle but…"
"I do love you Tori, I swear I do," Jade said quickly, "and I don't want you to think that I'm asking you to marry me because of Michelle."
Tori smiled and gave Jade a small kiss, trying to ease the thespian's mind.
"I know Jade and I know that when the right time comes you'll ask," she told her as she picked up Michelle and set her on Jade's lap.
Jade smiled and tickled the newborn, Michelle giggling at the action. With her mind finally not racing and her heart finally calm Jade was able to think rationally, her eyes shifting over to the ring once more.
"Yeah, yeah I will," she said picking up the ring and kneeling in front of Tori, handing her Michelle in the process.
"Jade?" Tori asked shocked.
"Victoria Vega will you become my bride?"
"Jade I...I don't know," Tori blushed biting her lower lip.
"Not right now of course," Jade assured her, "But someday, after we graduate and get a bit of college under our belts."
Tori looked at Jade, then down to the ring in Jade's hand, and then finally down at Michelle in her lap. It was her turn for her mind and heart to be racing. She was conflicted with what she wanted to do, part of her was saying to go for it, say yes and marry Jade, but the other part was worried that Jade was only doing it because they had Michelle despite her already telling the singer she loved her.
"Do...do you promise me you're not just doing this because we have a child?"
"I promise that the only reason I'm asking you is because I love you," Jade assured her taking a hold of her hand, "so what do you say?"
Tori bit her lower lip again as she thought about it, looking Jade in the eyes and seeing all the love that the thespian had not just for her but for Michelle as well. Smiling, she felt tears of joy sting her eyes as she nodded.
"Yes Jade, I'll marry you."
