Bark! Bark! Bark! Bark! Bark! Bark! I heard Angel going crazy. I tossed and turned trying to tune her out so I could go back to sleep when I felt something cold wash over me. I opened my eyes to see nothing so I sat up and noticed that the room was ransacked and Angel was at the foot of the bed barking at the space in the middle of the room. I pet Angel trying to calm her down, but she just glared at the nothingness and barking every so often. Just as the door randomly opened Angel dropped her guard and turned to me and started to lick my face.
"What happened?" Zak asked, his face serious.
"I-I don't know. I was asleep and the next thing I know she's standing in front of me barking at nothing."
Zak nodded his head then reached over to pet Angel. She turned and walked over to him hanging her head. He pet her and lifted her eyes to his, "You were protecting Momma weren't you? Huh? Such a good girl." Her tail started to wag almost hitting me in the face. I blocked my face and fell back on the bed giggling. Angel walked over to me and started licking my face which made me laugh as I tried to hide from her kisses.
"Okay Angel. Let's let Momma get dressed. She's got a big day ahead of her," Zak said tapping Angel's side as she got within his reach to distract her so I could sit up. Once up, I gave Zak a puzzled look then picked Angel up around the waist and set her on the floor where she promptly ran to Zak for attention.
"See you downstairs in five?" he asked.
I nodded my head as I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes. After one look around the room I shook my head at the mess, pulled the covers back and carefully walked around the room to grab a pair of denim capris and a black shirt that had skulls on it. After my normal morning routine I walked downstairs to find Zak making toast. I sat at the bar and nibbled on some fruit.
"So what's the plan today Boss Man?"
"Oh, not much. Gotta go into the office for a little bit to check into a new location then we can do whatever," he said turning and putting the toast on the counter.
My face fell slightly at the thought of being alone, but knew it was a matter of time before he would have to go back to work.
"What?"
"Nothing" I shake my head, "How long do you plan on being at the office?"
"I don't know shouldn't be very long—wait, you do realize you're coming too right?"
I stared at him for a minute before answering, "No! The phrase 'going to the office' generally entails you going by yourself."
"Do you really think I would leave you alone after you just got out of the hospital?"
I thought about it for a minute before smiling in embarrassment, "Shut up! I just woke up. My brain is not totally functional right now."
"Your brain is never totally functional," he teased.
"Nnnnh," I stuck my tongue out at him, "You're just jealous cause I'm funner than you."
"Oh yeah," he agreed sarcastically, rolling his eyes.
After we ate we left the dogs outside with some food and water then headed out to the office. The whole crew was already there by the time we arrived.
"Hey Lynn!" Aaron greeted, "What's up?"
"Well hopefully the ceiling or we might be in trouble."
He laughed. The guys all convened at the huge desk in the middle of the main room while I sat on the couch and listened to music on my phone while reading Kiss by Ted Dekker and Erin Healy.w
I was in the middle of chapter six when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I quickly looked up to see everyone looking at me.
"Yeah?" I asked pulling one headphone out.
"Well since we have nothing else to do for the day we were wondering if you feel up to some fun in the sun." Zak asked.
"What do you mean?"
"Going to Adventuredome."
"Uhhh suuuuuure," I said shaking my head really slowly, "I don't care."
"We don't have to if you don't want to," he commented.
"No. It's fine. I don't mind. Just caught a little off guard by the question is all," I said as I stretched my arms.
"You sure?"
"Yeah. I'm sure," I smiled reassuringly.
We all filed out of the office and got into our respective vehicles and headed off to Adventuredome. Once everyone was there we all walked in together.
"So where to first?" Nick asked excitedly.
"LASER TAG WITH BATMAN!" Aaron yells as he starts taking off in the general direction of its location.
Zak grabs him by the back of the shirt and pulls him back," Nooooo! Majority Rule. I vote Friday the 13th."
"No way man," Aaron rejects, "You're not getting me on that ride."
"You're such a wuss Aaron," Zak taunted.
"What about you Lynn? What would you like to do?" Nick interrupted.
I thought about it for a minute, "Let's do the Jason ride first."
"Wwwwhhhhyyyy," Aaron whined.
"Because I'm being smarticles."
They all looked at me.
"Well, as much as I love scary rides and haunted houses I really don't feel like doing it today and Aaron definitely doesn't wanna go, but I know that we'd be outvoted 2 to 3 and the only way to get Zak to let us do the laser tag is by doing something that he wants as a compromise. So if I have to go on the Jason ride either way I would rather do it first and get it over with than to spend all day dreading it and not be able to enjoy the other rides."
"Hmm…makes sense." Aaron agreed, "I can live with that."
With that, we walked to the end of the line that was for the Friday the 13th ride.
"YES! I AM QUEEN OF LASER TAG!" I yelled as we walked back to the booth to return the equipment.
"Yeah yeah yeah. Rub it in," Aaron said.
"Awww… there's no need to be a Jelly Belly Aaron. I still love you, even though I killed you like…. Fifty times," I giggled as I gave him a hug.
Nick laughed.
"Sooooo… food? What are we doing for food?"
"I got to get home to Annabelle and Veronique."
"Awwww," my face fell.
"We got to get home ourselves," Zak said.
I turned to look at him, "We do?" He nodded. "Oh. Okay. I guess we'll see you guys later?"
"Yeah," they agreed.
"Okay," I smiled. We all hugged and went our separate ways once we got to the parking lot.
On our way home Zak asked, "Did you have fun today?"
"Mmmm Hmmm" I nodded my head.
"Good."
We drove home in a comfortable silence just listening to music. We were greeted by Angel and Gracie at the front door.
"Hi Honeys! Were you good girls while we were gone?" I said, petting them as we made our way inside. Zak went and gave them a treat while I went upstairs to take a shower. Once inside the guest room I groaned, "Awww Maaaaann!" I shook my head, "I'll deal with it after," and tip toed my way around the destroyed room to the bathroom. Half way through the shower I got this strange feeling that someone was watching me, but I could find no one in the room so I just tried to brush it off as best I could and continued to clean up. Once out of the shower and dressed I walked out into the bedroom and started to go through and put the drawers back in their slots and picking up the clothes and bed sheets and put them back in the drawers. When the room was finally picked up I went downstairs to find Angel and Gracie laying down in front of the couch but no sign of Zak so I went to the kitchen and found some grapes to munch on then went to the couch. I grabbed the remote and turned on the TV. I flipped through channels until I found Bar Rescue. When I set the remote back down on the coffee table I saw the girls looking up at me. "What?" I asked, "Do you want up here with me? Is that what's up?" They lifted their heads and continued to look at me. "Well come on then. Get up here." I said patting the spot right next to me. They both got up and climbed onto the couch—Angel on my right, Gracie on my left. Half way through the second episode I started yawning. Then I heard Zak come down the stairs, "What were you doing in your room earlier?"
"Cleaning. I was gonna do it while you were gone but then I went with you and we went to Adventuredome and yeah…."
"You didn't have to do that." He said walking towards me.
"Yes. I did. You keep saying it's my room which makes it my responsibility."
"Well it is your room. That is.. if you want it to be." I could sense there was a double meaning in his words but was unsure of what the hidden meaning was. I looked up at him with my eyebrows pulled together questioningly. "What I mean is—I mean—What I'm trying to say is—" Zak said stumbling over his words.
"Yeah…" I said trying to prompt the rest to come out. He huffed out a breath before getting down on his knees in front of me. He took my hands in his and played with them absentmindedly for a minute before looking up to meet my eyes.
"….Will you stay here….with me?"
"What do you mean?"
"Stay here. You and Angel."
"You mean like… live here?"
