I grabbed Derek's arm and after giving Isaac a kiss on the forehead, pulled him out of the station and got in his car to head to the hospital.
I wait in the hallway as Derek walks into the room Erica is in, and then follow behind him as he rolls her bed into the morgue. When were almost there she wakes up, I put my hand on her shoulder to push her back down as Derek tells her to lie still. When we get there Derek walks to stand by the counter with her pill bottle as he reads the side effects out loud.
"Side effects may include anxiety, weight gain, acne, and ulcerative colitis." He looks up at me and I nod before slowly walking up to Erica with a gentle smile.
"Who are you?" she asks me softly, I can tell she is scared. I reach over and take her hands in mine, still smiling gently so she doesn't become more afraid.
"My name is Ara, you might know my brother Isaac, and this is Derek. We wanted to come and talk to you about something that could change your life for the better. What if you could get rid of your epilepsy forever; never have another seizure, or have to take another medication ever again." She looks at me in amazement, and I nod with a bigger smile on my face. I tell her everything and a few minutes later I finish the whole speech. "You don't need to decide right now, but we do need to know soon. So I want you to think it over tonight, and come to my house tomorrow." I give her my address, and I give her a kiss on the forehead, grab Derek's hand, and walk out of the hospital.
I walk with Erica down the stairs to the abandoned sub station that has become our den, holding her hand to keep her comfortable, and bring her over to the train car. I sit with her as Derek bites her and keep hold of her hand as she screams out in pain. I can hear Isaac outside the car, and I know he is trying to unsuccessfully ignore the sound of the screams. After she stops screaming she is panting and her face is covered in sweat, and I give her a hug and lift up the bottom of her t-shirt just in time to see her wound close up and I give her a kiss on her forehead and tell her that it worked. I lead her out of the car and lead her over to where Isaac is standing in wait.
"Isaac, I would like you to meet your new pack sister, this is Erica, Erica this is Isaac your new brother in everything other than blood. I need you two to put aside anything you may have thought about each other before, because to survive, your going to need to have each other's backs. Because if you can't trust your pack, you can't trust anyone, and you will die on your own." They nod their heads at me and walk off to get to know each other, and I walk over to Derek with a smile on my face, which he returns. I sit on the table that he is standing next to and we watch the two teenagers laugh together.
"They finally have a place where they don't have to be afraid to be themselves. Everyone else will judge them, and now they know that they don't have to be afraid of that here. They know that you won't do anything to make their lives worse, that you'll help them learn to survive. They need someone like you, who won't baby them, making them learn to protect themselves and each other." I lean my head on his shoulder, but after a few seconds, the world goes dark.
