Chapter 6
The Black Tear Gem had set sailed. Lunar island was growing smaller as they sailed away from it. The captain of the ship was in his quarters, not wanting to be around anyone for the moment. He was deep in thought about what Sango had told them. The infamous jewel exists and the woman he has feelings for has it in her possession. If he should ask for the jewel in repayment he'll certainly lose her. But feelings aside, he is still a pirate and it has been his dream to steal the jewel.
"Hiei, the jewel we've been looking for is on this ship" Grimmjow grumbled as he entered the room. Hiei remained silent.
"Try and talk to her about it"
"It's not that easy. She's the kind of woman that wouldn't budge from her decision. Also…" Hiei glared at him. "don't threaten her"
"You've grown soft. She's a big girl and can handle herself. She's the daughter of the infamous Sesshomaru" Grimmjow frowned and rolled his eyes. "I'll try to be nice to her next time"
"Hn"
"If it's bothering you too much. Ask yourself this, are you a pirate first or a lover?" Hiei didn't say anything not knowing what to say.
"From what I've heard. You met this chick yesterday and went 'gaga' over her. You were supposed to stay a few months at Lunar Island but instead you set sailed the day after to go rescue pirates who we've never met or have any relation to any of us, except your chick and her friend" Grimmjow waited to see if Hiei will comment before continuing on, "We'll be risking our lives for these strangers and on top of that going against Naraku, a fucking bastard who's famous for being cruel" Grimmjow walked closer and grabbed Hiei's shirt.
"I'm not risking my life for just nothing here. Unless someone gives me a good reason"
"Fool, you knew of our objective while we were on Lunar Island" Hiei snapped.
"Yeah, and I agreed to come along because you're my captain and because I want to fight and kill someone. But now the Shikon Jewel is also available and I want that too"
"You're going to steal it from them?" Hiei raised a brow.
"They're not my fellow crewmates" Grimmjow replied. Hiei closed his eyes in thought.
"I am your captain. You pledge yourself to follow me and my orders. And I'm ordering you to drop this topic about the Shikon Jewel" Grimmjow scowled but nodded he then turned his back to Hiei and walked towards the door.
"You need a reality check sometimes, captain. And I'm the only one who has the balls to say it out loud" He then walked out of Hiei's chambers. Hiei was once again plagued by thoughts about Sango, Naraku, and the Shikon Jewel.
'Am I a pirate first or a lover?'
"I'll let you live, woman. It's too soon for you to die and especially here" The pirate said to her as their swords clashed against each other. Sango growled, despising his pity for her.
"My name's Bankotsu, beautiful", Sango eyes widen caught off guard by the comment. He grinned before pushing her off the ship's railing. Sango fell into the sea and when she came back up for air, quickly dodged a barrel thrown by Bankotsu.
"Use that to keep afloat and try not to die out there. I really enjoyed our fight and I know we'll see each other again, beautiful", Sango narrowed her eyes at him and swam towards the barrel. She grabbed onto it to help her stay afloat. Suddenly, another person was thrown into the sea. Sango waited for the person to come up for air and saw to her horror a bloodied Kagome. The cut across her face was still bleeding.
The ship got farther away until they couldn't see it anymore. Sango had helped Kagome cling onto the barrel as the sea current carried them to who knows where.
Sango snapped out of her memories when she felt a hand on her shoulder. She gave Kagome a soft smile and placed her hand on top of hers.
"I'm all right, Kagome. We'll think of something don't worry"
"No, Sango. If it will help us we might as well give them the jewel. Your father's and the other's lives are more precious than the jewel" Kagome reasoned.
"Also, don't worry about Hiei. It's not always going to be rainbows and sunshine in a relationship. There will be fights here and there. The important part is your feelings towards each other. He intends to marry you, right?"
"I don't know, maybe things are going too fast. We met yesterday and…I mean, I do have feelings for him but now I need to take it slow. We must focus on saving father and the others. After that, I can think more clearly about my relationship with him" Sango confessed, after thinking about everything that happened in the last few days.
"At least you have self-control. I slept with someone as soon as we were saved" Kagome sighed, feeling ashamed of herself. Sango hugged her sideways to comfort her.
"Listen, we managed to survive our battle with Naraku and his men. We didn't know we would be saved by another pirate ship. We were exhausted and needed comfort of any sorts. Think of it as just a moment of weakness" Sango looked at her and into her eyes as she said this. Kagome teared up a bit, thankful for those words of comfort.
"Kurama is a very sweet and gentle person. You know, he traced his finger on my scar and asked about it. Not the one on my face but the one just above my right hip" Kagome said softly. Sango's eyes widen a bit in alarm.
"What did you tell him?"
"I told him it was from a wound I got during training and that it never healed right. And then I changed the topic" Kagome smiled sadly and watched Kurama from afar. Sango looked towards Hiei's quarter and frowned. 'Hiei, I'm sorry'
Sesshomaru opened his eyes as the door creaked lightly open. He was worried that Naraku had found his daughter already, though he had faith that Sango wouldn't go down without a fight. He looked up and saw a figure stepping into his cell chambers.
"Still alive I see. Good, can't have you dying here" Sesshomaru remained silent as he observed the man. The man grabbed a bottle from his satchel and uncorked it then brought it closer to Sesshomaru's mouth.
"There's no poison in it" The man rolled his eyes when Sesshomaru glared at him. Bankotsu sighed and took a sip to convince him.
"You're Bankotsu" Sesshomaru regarded the man. Bankotsu smirked, pleased to be known by Sesshomaru. He once again brought the bottle to his mouth.
"What do you want"
"Your daughter" Bankotsu chuckled as Sesshomaru frowned. The bandit was lucky he was shackled to the wall or else he'd be dead. Bankotsu stopped laughing and his face turned serious.
"I'm here to negotiate" Sesshomaru raised a brow and Bankotsu continued," I want out of Naraku's crew. Problem is when you leave his crew, you'll end up in Davy Jone's locker. And I'm not interested in dying right now. So, I want to join yours along with my brother" Sesshomaru raised a brow at him, his face expression still stoic.
"I'm the one who saved your daughter. I helped her and her friend escape before they could capture them" Bankotsu told him. Sesshomaru stayed silent and stared at him, then closed his eyes and sighed. Then he nodded his approval at his request.
'Great. Hey…wait…you're not going to ask me if I'm lying?' He cocked head sideways in confusion. Sesshomaru rolled his eyes at him.
'You wouldn't risk coming to see me and making such a request just for amusement. I do hope you were joking about wanting my daughter" He said dryly. Bankotsu grinned in response, he once again brought the bottle to Sesshomaru's mouth.
"So, captain what are your orders?" This time Sesshomaru drank the liquid inside the bottle. He felt his strength coming back and his wounds beginning to heal.
"Are there any antidotes for the poison Naraku uses?" Bankotsu blinked in surprise and nodded.
"Yeah. He keeps them inside his room so only he could administer them. If he needs to or…wants to"
"Find Sango and Kagome, kill your crewmembers except for that brother of yours and get the antidotes. After that come and free me and my crew from these chains" Sesshomaru ordered.
"You don't want me to free you now and the others?"
"Not yet. I want you to give the others the elixir as well. I have a plan"
"I've already had that brother is taking care of that right now"
" Come on. Drink it. It will help" Jakotsu thrust the bottle in Inuyasha's face.
"You think I'm stupid?! It's poisoned!" Inuyasha barked out. His body was covered in bruises and cuts, his arms and legs shackled to the wall. He wasn't the only one in this condition.
"Afraid, mutt?" Koga taunted, his left eye was swollen shut.
"What did you say, wolf shit?"
"I told you it's not poisonous, cutie. See?" Jakotsu took a sip, waited a few seconds before convulsing. Inuyasha and the other crewmembers looked on in shock.
"See! It was poisoned!" Inuyasha exclaimed. Jakotsu stopped shaking and laughed his ass off at the dumbfounded expressions on The Fangs crew.
"I've…hahah…always wanted to...hahaha do that" He laughed so hard he had to grab his belly because it started to hurt.
"You bastard. You have a few screws loose, don't you?!" Inuyasha growled.
"Oh, you want me to give you the elixir mouth to mouth? I'm in!" Jakotsu brought the bottle to his mouth and was about to take a large sip when Inuyasha stopped him.
"NO! Give me the bottle. I'll drink it okay?" He pulled his chains forward and he tried to grab the bottle from Jakotsu.
"Let me drink it, first. I have a broken bone" Koga
"Inuyasha, let me go first. Both of my arms are broken. I believe that outranks your broken leg Koga" Miroku interrupted their squabble. Soon every Fang member began arguing who should get the first sip.
"Boys! Boys!" All the men turned their attention to Jakotsu. "There's enough of me to go around" He winked.
"…..."
"Bankotsu, how odd of you to join us" Byakuya stated as they boarded the Tarantula, one of the Death Spider's armada ships. Bankotsu walked beside him, unfazed by Byakuya's unsaid question.
"Hey, I wanted to stretch my legs and it has been a while since Banryuu had sliced anyone. Do I need a reason to kill someone?" Bankotsu raised a brow in question.
"It still puzzles me, how two people managed to escape from our grasp so easily" Byakuya wondered out loud while peering at Bankotsu suspiciously.
"Beats me", Bankotsu shrugged.
The Tarantula had set sailed, backtracking to where they seized the Fangs. Unaware that the women they're searching for are on another pirate ship and making their way to them.
One day later
"It's a ship! I see a ship coming towards us" Jin shouted from the crow's nest. The crewmembers prepared themselves for a possible fight. Hiei walked on the deck and looked through a binocular.
"The Tarantula" He frowned, after spotting the familiar Jolly Roger of Naraku. He turned to regards his men.
"Men, prepare for battle. One of Naraku's ship is heading towards us and – "The sound of an explosion cut him off. The Black Tear Gem swayed from the waves the explosion caused. The Tarantula had started firing their canons and approaching faster than before.
"TO YOUR STATIONS!" Hiei yelled, readying his sword. The crewmembers ran towards the canons and to their weapons. Chu steered the ship around to dodge the cannonballs coming their way. The Tarantula was a very fast ship as it managed to keep a steady pace next to them.
"Fire", Byakuya and Hiei ordered at the same time. Both ships shot towards each other, while the Black Tear Gem fired cannonballs, the Tarantula fired a green goo ball, which covered the cannon's mouth and the right gun ports. Naraku's men jumped toward the Black Tear Gem like spiders. Some managed to board the ship while others were blasted away by cannonballs or slashed down by swords. Kagome shot arrows with precision at the jumpers. Kurama stayed close to her and attacked with his thorn whip. Grimmjow, Yusuke, and Gambit were facing off Goshinki, Jura and Kyora.
"Captain! Our cannons are covered in some kind of goo! We can't fire them anymore" Riku shouted, choking on of enemy with his yo-yo's string. Hiei slashed pirate down, before replying.
"Forget the cannon's now, just kill them with swords, guns, and fist" He ordered and stabbed another pirate through the chest, piercing his heart. He pulled his sword from the corpse right on time jumping back when a sword struck the spot he was just at.
"Captain Hiei, it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance" Byakuya greeted, his words cynical.
"Hn"
"Knew you'd survive", a familiar voice called from somewhere on the ship. Sango tensed and searched for the owner of the voice.
"Bankotsu", She hissed as her eyes landed on him. His eyes looked her over appreciatively, pleased at the sight her.
"Where is my father?" Sango demanded, her sword drawn and pointed at him. Bankotsu smirked and drew his halberd, he jumped down onto the deck floor just a few meters in front of her. They began circling each other. Her eyes searching for any weaknesses in his stance. Bankotsu made the first move by swinging his Banryuu. She dodged to the right and thrust her sword aiming at his abdomen. He jumped back in time to evade her attack.
"Being held in the dungeons in Naraku's hideout. Your other crewmembers are also there and they're all still alive. Listen we got orders to retrieve you and your friend", He responded while evading her attacks with ease. He ran forward and their swords clashed, their faces mere inches away.
"Why did you spare us that night?" Sango asked through gritted teeth, not wanting to lose to Bankotsu. He smirked at her, amazed by her strength. He used more force to drive her back to the ship's railing. Sango cursed as she felt her back pressed up against the hard-wooden rail.
"Don't really know. I don't like following all of Naraku's orders" Being careful not to push her too much. Sango furrowed her brows confused by what he said.
"You're considering mutiny?"
"It has crossed my mind a few times, more so recently. I don't know if I can convince the others but I will leave the crew along with my brother alive" Sango managed to kick him off of her creating space between. She breathed deeply and sweat dripped down her chin.
"How can I believe what you're telling me is true and not a trap?"
"Simple, I like you", Bankotsu confessed.
"Eh?" Sango blinked, not expecting that.
"Since we last fought I can't stop thinking about you", Bankotsu moved his weapon away from her and scratched his cheek while looking away, a faint blush on his cheeks.
"I'm with someone" Sango stated, a bit flustered by Bankotsu's confession.
"For now, maybe" He smirked, winking at her. She rolled her eyes at him, lowering her guard as she senses that he won't hurt her. She stepped away from the railing and stood to his right but with a huge space between them. Bankotsu eyes narrowed and he ran forward passing a stunned Sango and slicing one of his crewmembers down.
"Bankotsu-sama…?" The dying pirate croaked, shocked at the betrayal before gasping his last breath. Bankotsu grabbed Sango's hand and pulled her along as he led her towards the other fights.
"Need more proof? Your father told me if I find you and Kagome to tell you this so you can believe me. Something about an unmarked grave on Canis island" Sango gasped startled by what he said. The only person who would know about that is her father, her, and Kagome. And her father wouldn't tell anyone this if it wasn't important. "I can help you save your comrades and father"
Hiei struck down another henchman. He managed to slash Byakuya's arm off but the cowards escaped and five henchmen defended him while he escaped. He had finally cut down the last one and looked over to the others. His eyes caught the sight of an enemy holding his woman's hand. He growled and ran towards him, his sword ready to strike.
Bankotsu noticed Hiei and let go of Sango's hand before pulling his halberd right in time to clash with Hiei's sword. Both men pushing each other with brute force but neither moved from the spot. Sango stood back and watched the two men as they fought.
"One of Naraku's children escaped with still a few men. Grimmjow killed the older one called Goshinki" Yusuke said as he came to stand next to Sango. Most of the fights were already finished by that point. A victory with no casualties on their side. Hiei's men gather around their captain and his foe as neither one seemed to waver.
"It's him!" Kagome gasped, recognizing the one who threw her over the Fangs. She stood next to Yusuke and Kurama.
"Hiei! He's an ally. Bankotsu lower your weapon!" Sango demanded, fed up with the testosterone in the air.
"Ally?" Hiei jumped back from Bankotsu. The latter lowered his weapon and stepped back also. He didn't care that a large group surrounded him. He can still take them on.
"That's right. He's rebelling against his captain and agreed to lead us back to their hideout", Sango reasoned.
"Rebelling? It's a trap, woman" Grimmjow scoffed.
"No, it's not a trap. I swear I'm leaving his crew along with Jakotsu"
"Please, why would we believe you," Yusuke asked, his arms crossed. Shouts of 'yeah' and 'aye' were heard as the other crewmembers voiced their agreement with Yusuke. Bankotsu chuckled.
"I'll do anything for her" He pointed at Sango. Hiei did not like that at all. The crew looked at their captain and then towards Bankotsu dumbfounded by what he just said.
"What" Hiei narrowed his eyes. Sango covered her face with her hand and shook her head, feeling a headache coming on. 'Men'
"Hey man, she's taken. She's our captain's woman" Yusuke said as matter of fact. Sango felt angered by that claim. Sure, she is with Hiei, but hearing stuff like 'the captain's woman' made her feel more like a piece of property than a living being.
"Anything can happen. Anyways, I've got orders from my new captain to find his daughter and friend. Look, I can lead you guys to our hideout without any detection", Bankotsu said casually and looked at Hiei with a hardened look. Hiei smirked, accepting the unsaid threat.
"New captain? Don't tell me", Kagome looked at Bankotsu in disbelief.
"What?!" Sango looked at Bankotsu awestruck. He looked at her and smirked, liking her being awestruck by him.
"My name is Bankotsu Shichinintai. I'm the new member of the Fangs and I've pledged myself to follow Captain Sesshomaru's orders", Bankotsu introduced himself more formally to them and turned his gaze back on Hiei. He glared at him and Bankotsu glared back.
"In that case, you will be a big help to us, Bankotsu. We're currently heading towards Black Woods where we believe Naraku and The Fangs are residing" Kurama said, trying to bring the focus back on their main objective.
"Blackwoods?" Bankotsu began laughing, stopping his glaring contest with Hiei, "Naraku's not there. That island is mostly used for pitstops but there is something there that you'll need to get to Hakurei island. It's the uncharted island where the 'Fangs' is being held"
Skitty365: Hope you guys like this chapter. I realized that I really rushed Sango and Hiei along with Kagome and Kurama in the beginning. So I want to take it slower with their relationships. A lot of them are still very OOC.
