Dear Readers,

Again, thank you all for reading and an extra thank you to the people who commented. You truly make things easier for me with all your encouragement. Considering there isn't much to say here I might as well get to the comments that need answering

Eaikin21 commented: This story is great! I can't wait to see how she fits into the glade and what job she gets!

Eaikin21 I'm glad you like this story. I had noticed that you have written one of your own; I have read it and I thought it was very good. Your story is one of the reason why I decided to write down my ideas. I hope you continue to like it. Now as her job considering she's blind I'm going to have to think about what she'll be able to do. I really should have thought it through when I made her blind but I just wanted something different. I hope I can continue making this a good story considering there is just so much I can do at this point.

Majwes commented: Omg I love this way to much! You sound like a person who seems to like questions and requests (like me) so I'm just gonna leave these here… Can we get a more explanation of how Vicky looks like? Are you gonna put in Theresa? I don't mind either way but fun to see two girls in the maze on the same time. Can you do a mix of Gally in this story on how he behaved in the first book and movie? I did not like how things turned out for him in the first book and he was kind of an asshole in the first movie (I did like him though).

Thank you for commenting Majwes and a huge thank you for telling me what you would like to see. It's very helpful; more than you know. I'm still trying to figure out what Vicky looks like, so please bear with me. I want to get her just right. As for you asking if I'm going to put Teresa in, the answer is yes. She is an important part of the story, so she has to be there. Now Gally is going to be a little tricky for me. There were times I like him and then there were times I just wanted to beat him. I was thinking of making him nice towards Vicky, but at the same time he's being an asshole (as you called him). We'll just have to see as the story goes.

So that is it for this little (long) side note. I hope you ALL continue to like this story. I know it is moving slow but please will you all bear with me; its taking me a while to figure things out. I'm trying to make this story like the originals. Don't forget to comment. Again, you will see more chapters as comments are produced.

Thank you,

Chapter 5.

Meeting Minho

As Newt and I walked the wall we were quiet for the most part. I asked a few questions here and there and surprisingly Newt was willing enough to answer them. Then we were silent again and I got the general idea of my new home. The Glade was at least several football fields long and surrounded by the tall walls. I was trying to wrap this all tight in my head when the boy walking behind me started talking.

"You know," he said thoughtfully, "you're actually takin' all this pretty shuckin' well. I thought by now you'd be sittin' in the corner cryin' your bloody eyes out or at least actin' buggin' crazy, tryin' to run away."

"You know," I told him, "I never really thought about it. Plus, what's the point of having a fit if there's nothing you can do about it? As for the running away part I can't really do that with my… problem."

"I didn' think that'd stop you from klunkin' your pants."

I let out a small laugh and was about to reply to his comments when I heard something mechanical sounding scurry somewhere, not too far from where I was walking. Stopping in my tracks I heard the vines move. Even though I couldn't see I looked around my surrounding trying to find out what was moving and where it was. Newt ran into the back of me, not noticing I had stopped.

"What is it Vick?" he questioned, with concerned laced in his voice.

"What was the sound?" I asked.

"Sound. What sound?"

"The mechanical sound."

"What mechanical sound?"

Holding up a finger I listened really hard for the sound again. I needed to know what was making that machine-driven noise. Newt listened with me and as we waited I was hyperaware of the boy standing behind me. It took all my mental capacity to force on listening for the noise and not to lean back into him. We stood where we were for a minute or so then it came again.

"That," I told Newt. "That noise right there."

"Oh, that sound," my companion laughed. "Those are what we call Beetle Blades. They look like little mechanical lizards. They're what the Creators use to watch us."

"That's kind of weird."

"Good that."

"And that means?"

"It means I agree. Now… you can't tell but it's getting time for the doors to close which means food is going to be served. You must be hungry."

Surprisingly I didn't realize that I was starving until Newt brought it up, and as if right on time my stomach started growling – it had at least been six hours since Frypan fed me while we were visiting him. The boy behind me started laughing again and it made me laugh too. He soon grabbed my hand and started leading me away from the while. As we walked I tried my best to have mental picture of everything around me. It surprisingly wasn't hard at all; after walking the wall and the rest of the Glade, I could partly see everything in my mind; like a map of sorts.

"The Runners are back," Newt informed me when we got close to Frypans territory. "They're coming out of the Map Room now."

"The Map Room?" I asked.

"Yea. It's where the Runners go and map out the paths we were running that day. We Runners are also the Map-Makers."

"Map-Makers?"

"Yea. That's the last Job there is, but it's already taken by the Runners. So, if you're not a Runner…"

"You can't be a Map-Maker."

"Every good, Love."

I could really the warmth flood up to my cheeks. I don't know why, but the way he called me "Love" made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. The butterflies were starting in my stomach too, but that wasn't because I was hungry.

"Come on," Newt muttered. "There's someone I want you to meet."

Newt tugged on my hand, taking me in the direction he wanted to go. Soon I heard someone running towards us.

"Hey Newt," someone said. "I see you've got the new Gr–"

The new boy stopped in his tracks; evidently, he was speechless. I could only guess what the expression on his face was, once he saw I was a girl. That wasn't going to be his only surprise.

"The Greenie is a girl?" the new boy exclaimed.

Like some of the boys around here, this boys voice was low, he had to be at least sixteen, maybe seventeen. I couldn't tell you exactly because I couldn't see his face. Either way I really didn't like everyone being surprised I was the girl – yea I was, but everyone would have to get over it.

"Is that the only response you boys can think of?" I asked. "You don't know how many times I've heard that today."

I let go of Newt's hand and crossed my arms over my chest. If these boys couldn't get passed that I was a girl I was going to blow up on someone sooner or later. Knowing my luck, it would be Alby and then I would be in some serious trouble.

"And she's feisty to," the boy stated. "This could make things fun."

"Bloody hell," Newt sighed. "Come on Minho. Please stop being a shank and be nice."

"I'm sorry Greenbean. Newt's right. My name is Minho."

"I'm Vicky."

There were a few seconds pause and I didn't know what was going on. I heard someone clear their throat. The silence was starting to get awkward, but there was nothing I could do about it.

"You don't like shaking people's hands do you?" Minho questions. "Are you afraid of germs or something?"

"No, I'm not afraid of germs," I muttered, not knowing what was going on or what this boy was talking about.

"Oh, that's my bad," Newt laughed. "I should have told you, she can' see Minho."

"She can't see?"

"Good lord," I growled. "For the last time, I'm blind, so yes I can't see. Seriously, don't any of you boys know anything?"

Once more silence hung around us. The only thing I could hear was people someone near the Homestead, yelling at one another for something. I couldn't help wondering what was going on over there, then someone burst into laughter, right in front of me. I was really getting tired of being laughed at today.

"Dang… she is… feisty," Minho said through fits of laughter. "It's going to be fun having her around even if she is blind."

I felt someone grab my hand and put it into another. It had to be Minho's because we started shaking hands, and I couldn't help but smile at the thought.

"Anyway," Minho muttered, "it's good to meet you Greenbean. I'm one of the Runners like this shank right here, but better."

"Isn't the Keeper of the jobs the best of everyone who's in that job?" I asked, as I let go of the Runner's hand. "If that's true, then isn't Newt the best of the two of you?"

It was Newt's turn to burst into laughter. I heard Minho grumbling under his breathe, something I couldn't understand. A smirk made its way to my lips and I couldn't help but laugh along with Newt. Minho did walk into that one.

"How do you like her bein' feisty now ya shank?" Newt asked, after getting control over his laughter. "You were right though; it's goin' to be fun havin' her around."

"Haha very funny," Minho pouted.

"Don't be a sore loser," I told him. "We won't tell anyone about you being out thought by a girl."

"Don' say that love," Newt playfully scolded me. "You may not say anything, but that doesn' me I won'."

"Whatever," Minho sighed.

The boy sounded like he was done pouting. Somehow, I could hear a smile in his voice, and I smiled back. I could tell Minho and I were going to get along just fine.

"Now if you two are done making fun of me," Minho muttered, "let's started heading over to the bonfire, or the guest of honor is going to be late."

I heard Minho making his way over to the Homestead, where it sounded like most of the Glader were stationed. Turning to look at Newt – or at least where I thought it was – and gave him a weird look.

"What is he talking about?" I asked.

"Well we have a tradition," Newt informed me.

"That you just started last month."

"Yes. Every time a Greenie comes up in the Box we have a bonfire to celebrate their arrival and their Fist Day in the Glade. Frypan goes all out. I can' say that it'll be good."

"Why do you say that? His food didn't seem that bad when I had lunch."

"Don' worry about it Vick. Come on, let's go."

Newt took my head again and lead me in the direction of the bonfire. As we walked my head started to spin again from so much information throughout the day. I understood now why the Gladers didn't give all this information at once to the new person. It didn't just make your head spin, it gave you a killer headache in the end.
