I made a small change to the previous chapter, instead of twenty helicopters ten were sent and five tanks.
Chapter 16
It was the Hobbits who ended up killing the Dragon, by spraying liquid nitrogen down his throat as he tried to roast them, he died within minutes. The ten tanks that the Thain had sent worked together to drag it out of the Mountain, it was used as a signal to the Orc army that their opponent was strong. Once the Dragon was out of the Mountain another team of Hobbits went in to retrieve the Arkenstone and contain it.
Once the Arkenstone was dealt with Bilbo convinced Thorin to send emissaries to the Woodland Realm and Lake Town to warn them of the danger, Fili and one Hobbit were sent to Lake Town and Kili and another to the Woodland Realm, they took a dune buggie each to get them there quicker. They arrived back hours later with the news that the Men of Lake Town and the Elves of the Woodland Realm would fight with them, though the Elven King was difficult to persuade Kili brought him around with the promise of payment.
Two days later the armies of Men and Elves arrived and were positioned behind the first line of defence, the tanks.
One week after the arrival of the Men and Elves, Gandalf rode onto the battlefield, on a brown horse, he stopped before the Company, who were camped by the body of the Dragon. Once Gandalf dismounted it became clear that he had a companion, a dwarf with one eye, who looked like Thorin. Said Dwarven King stiffened upon seeing the figure and whispered in the most venerable voice any of them had heard, "Father?"
Bilbo stepped forward and placed a gentle hand upon his shoulder, "Thorin?"
Thorin turned and looked at Bilbo, he was crying and there was true fear in his eyes, "'Bo?" He mumbled.
"Oh honey, it's okay," Bilbo said wrapping his arms around his husband, "Balin!" Bilbo called.
"I'll deal with it laddie," the old dwarf replied and Bilbo dragged Thorin away to the other side of the Dragon.
They sat and Thorin put his head in his hands, he was clearly panicking. Bilbo grabbed Thorin's face made him look into his eyes, "He can't hurt you anymore Thorin, and you're big and strong. You. Are. Not. Alone. I will protect you from him."
At that Thorin started crying and Bilbo pulled him into his arms, "You are not alone," he repeated over and over until Thorin started to calm down.
"Can't, I can't look at him," Thorin whispered.
"I'll deal with it laddie," Balin replied.
As Thorin was dragged away, Balin came to stand before Thrain, who had been helped down from the horse by Gandalf, "I need to speak with my son Balin," Thrain said and though his voice was rough from disuse it held a very clear tone of command.
"No," Balin said, "You are not allowed anywhere near Thorin." The rest of the Company came to stand behind Balin or more importantly between Thrain and Thorin.
Thrain growled but otherwise remained silent and in the silence they could all hear Thorin's heart wrenching sobs. A look of disgust flashed across Thrain's face, "He was always a weakling that one, he should have died in his brother's place!"
After Thorin had managed to calm down, Bilbo wiped his tears away and asked, "Didn't your Father die Thorin?"
"I thought he did, it looked like him but we didn't stop to check, me and Frerin, we just kept running. I thought he was dead Bilbo! I thought I was rid of him." Thorin curled into Bilbo's side and they sat in silence until Balin came and told them that Thrain was gone.
The next two days were spent organising the armies into some semblance of order and keeping Thrain away from Thorin, this was not hard as Thrain was confined to the Med Centre due to his fragile health, something he was not pleased about.
Just as the first Orcs came into view a raven flew down and landed on Thorin's shoulder, after a whispered conversation it flew off to the mountain, "Dain will be here in one and half days," he whispered to Fili and Dwalin who were standing next to him among the Men, Elves and Hobbits.
"It'll be nice to have some more Dwarves around," Dwalin grumbled eyeing one of the Elven warriors. The Elf smirked ever so slightly.
Kili stood among the larger party of archers, firing arrow after arrow taking down as many Orcs as he could.
Bifur kept his cousins in his sights at all times which was his downfall. A piercing, ripping pain tore through his chest as an Orc stabbed him in the back, as he fell he heard someone screaming, "Med-Vac, Med-Vac!" as everything went dark.
Bofur and Bombur saw Bifur fall and saw a Hobbit with a medical symbol on her uniform run to him, "Med-Vac, Med-Vac Area 4!" She screamed into her radio, Bifur was still alive.
Nothing mattered to Nori in the middle of a battle, just the flash of his knives and the spray of black blood as the Enemy fell.
Balin looked out onto the battlefield from his position on the hill the Orcs were all but dealt with and the sun was setting, the last of the sunlight dwindled and Goblins came upon the battlefield.
He, Dori and Ori were joining the battle sooner than intended it seemed.
Gloin roared as another Goblin fell under his axe, and accountant by trade he may be but nothing was the same as the thrill of a good battle.
Oin helped the Hobbit healers take Bifur into the Med Centre where they worked tirelessly healing him and the others who were injured in the battle.
Bilbo flew Wasp over the Goblins and the Gunmen fired, taking out huge swathes of them. Then a call came over the radio, "Med-Vac, Med-Vac Area 1!"
"Wasp leader responding," Bilbo said over the radio, that was Thorin's area. "Major Gamgee! Direction?"
"Centre of the area sir!" The young Hobbit called forward from her place in the centre of the craft.
As the sun rose, more Orcs charged the battlefield and slowly but surely the armies knocked them back. As the sun reached its peak Dain and his army arrived, they gave an advantage that was sorely needed.
Fili stood in front of his Uncle and slew the Pale Orc, the leader, Azog the Defiler. Bilbo's Helicopter flew down and two Hobbits jumped out and wrapped ropes around Thorin and pulled him up into the Helicopter and took him away. Fili kept fighting with Dwalin at his side as the Eagles of Manwë arrived.
All of the Company of Thorin Oakenshield survived, Bifur's left leg was paralysed and he took a week to recover from the poisonous blade. Thorin also was poisoned, and Orcish arrow to his left shoulder, a Goblin arrow to his right thigh and a cracked sternum kept him down for five days but soon he was up and about. It was time for Bilbo to tell Thorin the good news, he procured some food and found Thorin sitting alone outside the Med-Centre, Bilbo silently handed Thorin one of the bowls and sat next to him, "I have some news, good new hopefully," Bilbo said looking at his food.
Thorin took a mouthful and swallowed, "What news?"
"Thorin, were going to have a baby," Bilbo said.
"Truly?" Thorin asked tears of joy shining in his eyes.
"Yes," Bilbo said.
Thorin put food on the ground and pulled Bilbo into a hug, "I'm going to be a father!" he said joyfully and then he put his face in his hands and groaned, "I'm going to be a father." Okay, that was definitely panic in his voice Bilbo thought.
"You are going to be a wonderful father Thorin," Bilbo said bumping his shoulder against Thorin's.
Thorin peaked up between his fingers, "You think so?" he asked.
"Definitely. Come on we need to have a scan done and you need to be there," Bilbo said finishing his food in one gulp.
Thorin followed suit, "What's a scan?"
"It allows us to see inside the body without opening it up. We might even be able to know if it's a boy or a girl."
"Hobbits are astounding," Thorin said slipping his hand into Bilbo's.
Bilbo smiled and lead Thorin into a small room in the Med-Centre, there was a bed, two chairs and a strange machine as well as a Hobbit, "Doc, I need a scan done!" Bilbo said placing a hand on his stomach, how could he have missed how round it was?
The other Hobbit nodded and told Bilbo to get up on the bed, "That's the Dad's chair," He said pointing at the chair at the end of the bed, Thorin sat and the scan was started.
Once the scan was done the 'Doc' Turned to them, "Congratulations, you're having triplets!"
Thorin turned to Bilbo who looked equally shocked, "You are amazing!" Thorin said.
From the last chapter:
Dhaidí = Daddy
