Chapter 8
Wyatt awoke later that morning to the feel of something tingling around his left ring finger. Looking down at the hand that was holding DG's, he was mildly shocked to see a gold ring beginning to form. He had known that the magic of the Soul Pairing would marry them but he had not expected it to actually show any physical proof of the bond. He smiled when he noticed a similar ring forming on her left hand too. Placing a kiss to the crown of her dark head, he smiled.
DG awaken shortly after the kiss to her head and looked up at him, " Good Mornin'" she managed to say a sleepy smile playing across her lips.
"It is indeed a very good mornin'" he returned flipping her to her back and leaning over her to place a tender kiss to her smiling lips.
The tenderness of the kiss was soon replaced by their still simmering passion which led to them reenact the events from the night before. Laying on their sides facing each other after they had calmed enough to speak DG asked, "And why is this morning any different from all the others?"
Instead of answering her inquiry, he raised her left hand to her eye level and watched as she looked at her hand in shock. However, before he could say anything she reached for his left hand and examined the ring that now lay there. "What? Why? How?" she couldn't seem to form any kind of coherent sentence as she stared at the matching rings on their fingers.
He couldn't help the small chuckle that escaped him at her inability to speak. Gently caressing her cheek he explained what the Soul Pairing had done. When he was finished she said, "Mother is going to have a field day when she finds out."
He just nodded. He was used to her Other Side jargon by this point and had a pretty good idea what she meant by that statement. "Sweetheart, I do have a question for you though," he began still looking into her blue orbs.
"And that would be?"
"Well, I know at this point it shouldn't matter seeing as the Soul Pairing has essentially married us but I still would like you to marry me with all of our families present, but only if you want to."
She couldn't believe what she was hearing. He wanted to marry her! Well, he was right they were kinda already married at this point but he want everyone to know. The fact that he wasn't hiding his feelings anymore was something truly amazing, at least to her. Rolling them over so that she was straddling him, she leaned down and placed her lips to his ear before saying softly, "Yes."
He pushed her back so he could see her face. She was grinning. Her eyes were sparkling and he just had to ask, "Truly?!"
"Of course! You have no idea how long I have waited for you to ask me to marry you!" she exclaimed happily. Then before he could do anything she was leaping out of the bed and hurriedly pulling on her clothes intent on letting the others know. "Well, come on let's get a move on it already we have a wedding to plan!" Then laughing gaily she left him to dress as he stared after her.
He left the bedroom minutes later fully dressed and was greeted by the rest of his traveling companions. All of whom were wearing identical smirks on their faces.
"What?" he asked as he sat at the table.
"Tin Man very happy this morning," Raw stated looking between DG and Cain laughter evident in his eyes as he knew what had taken place between his two friends the night before.
Cain couldn't help the blush that stole over his features and pulled his fedora down further to try and hide the redness.
Suddenly Raw became alert. He felt a presence with them though he could not see anyone or thing.
DG had noticed Raw's change in demeanor and looked around only to see Adora stand just behind her sister and Jeb a warm smile graced her lips.
"What?" she mouthed though her sister thought she was talking to her and answered, "Nothing."
DG had to stop from choking when Adora grinned at her. "Um, could you guys excuse me for a moment," she said leaving the room as fast as possible while motioning for Adora to follow her discreetly. When she was safely away from everyone she turned on Adora, "What in the world are you doing?!"
"Nothing," she grinned but continued after seeing the fury in her new friends eyes, "Okay, okay, I was trying to point out your sister and my son's growing affection for each other."
This had DG sputtering in shock. She had always thought that her sister and her bodyguard were growing close but had never thought that there was anything there but friendship. After contemplating their situation, she finally realized that her sister and Jeb were acting exactly as she and Wyatt had before they had finally gotten together. "Adora, are they fated to be?" she finally asked.
The ghost nodded but said in a soft voice, "Your family tree is about to get very interesting, oh and congratulations."
DG didn't know what to say to that. True, if her sister and her now stepson did marry then Adora was right their family tree was about to get crazy. She then thought about what Adora had just said and she blushed. "I...uhhm...thank you...I think," she managed to get out.
"DG there is no need to be embarrassed. We both knew that it would happen. I'm truly happy for the both of you. I told you once before that I prayed Ozma would send Wyatt and Jeb their true loves and she has. I can't tell you how happy that makes me," Adora stated with a grin.
There was something to be said about the deceased wife of the man you were now married to thanking you for making said husband happy. "Wow, uhm, well now what?"
"Now... now you go back in there and be who you were meant to be," Adora said smiling.
"But..."
"It's time for me to go DG and it's time for you to return to the cabin," the spirit said with a smile.
"Adora, could you at least say goodbye to them this time," DG asked softly.
Adora, who had turned to go, whipped around in surprise by the request. "I want to...more than anything...but how? They can't see me nor can they hear me."
"Simple," she began then after the look Adora was giving her explained, "I can make it so that they can see and hear you if you wish it. My memories as well as my magic was completely unlocked last night so I can but only if you truly want to," DG said coming to stand before her newest friend.
"But...what about..." the spirit began.
"He has let you go just as you hoped he would. Besides you and I both know that he wants to say farewell to you."
Adora nodded and followed DG back into the cabin. The princess paused a moment wondering exactly how this was going to work. She knew that it would be healing for both of the Cain men to say a proper farewell to the woman who had meant so much to both of them but she also had her doubts. She pushed them away when Wyatt came up to her and pulled her into his embrace before asking is she was okay.
"I'm fine but there is someone here who would like to talk to both you and Jeb. You don't have to mind you but she would really like to talk to you."
Cain didn't have to be told who it was DG was talking about. He knew. He wasn't about to tell his Princess that he could sense the presence beside her. "Adora wants to talk to me doesn't she?" he asked so softly DG almost missed hearing him.
"Yes. She is here and she wants to talk to both you and your son."
"You don't mind?" he questioned, looking down into her blue eyes as he caressed her cheek with his thumb.
"Nope, I was the one to suggest it to her, in fact. Wyatt it's okay. You and Jeb need this," DG said placing a soft kiss to his lips before pulling away and calling Jeb over.
When the young man stood before her she silently placed the spell that would show the ghost of Adora Cain to the two men she had left behind. Then squeezing Wyatt's hand she left the room so that they could talk in private.
