A/N: I'M SORRY. I haven't written for this in over two years. I have other stories in case you guys are interested. :) I've updated them more recently than this one lol. Well, anyway. Here's the story.
Sasuke POV
(5:54 pm–Commercials are playing right before the movie.)
"Surprisingly it isn't crowded in here." Sakura states are we climb the stairs in the dark room full of empty seats. "I guess this proves that Spider-Man is a joke of a hero, huh?" She playfully teases. I smirk as we choose seats at the very top. "Yeah, well, this movie has been out for a few months." I reply as she slides in and sits while holding the popcorn bowl in between her small hands. I set her soda down into the cup holder connected to her seat, then do the same for myself as I sit down. "Thanks for the popcorn and drink, Sasuke." I nod my head. We sit there in silence for a moment.
"So...how has life been recently?" Well, my disgusting brother has ran away leaving my parents distraught and uncaring about poor old me. But I don't mind him being gone. Ugh. Can't say that. "Hm...uh, well...Busy with Basketball practice. The season starts next month so I have to be ready. What about you?" She throws some popcorn into her mouth and chews the buttery goodness before replying. "Well I know school has just started, but I've been studying a lot. I still want to graduate as our Valedictorian so I have to keep it up. Shikamaru keeps stealing it from me—that guy has slept through every class his entire life and somehow manages to score higher than I do." She grabs her drink and almost crushes it. "It's like, I can never be good enough. I spend hours studying and rarely go out with even Ino and yet..."
"I think you can do it this year." I say as I calmly loosen her grip on the cup. "Sorry, Sasuke. Heh, I still don't know my own strength." She blushes. "And thanks for listening. You've always been easy to spill my guts out to. And you know I will do the same for you." She looks at me seriously. I know. I avoid eye contact and instead grab a piece of popcorn from the bowl. "You know, you should play volleyball. You've got the strength...Hey, the movie is about to start." I point to the screen as more people start to trickle into the room. I can feel her staring at me for another second, then look to the screen.
Keeping her eyes on the screen, Sakura says, "You know, this movie probably won't be so bad. Andrew Garfield is pretty cute." I roll my eyes. "Yeah, and so is Emma Stone." I shoot back. She laughs and takes a sip of her drink. Then the lights flicker out and the opening music starts to blare. I glance in her direction and see a faint smile playing upon her lips. I smirk and look back at the big screen.
"Sasuke-kun! Where are you?"
I silently sneak past the door where Sakura just finished counting. Once past, I quickly race to my favorite hiding spot–underneath the bench in my playroom. Half the time Sakura yells out in frustration before finding me there, and the other half she just sits on top of it whistling a tune until I finally expose myself and scare her in the process. Which way will it be this time? I think as I reach the room. Toy boxes line the walls and each and every toy is in its box—except one. I run past it and crawl underneath the bench. I push myself as far back as I can go. Suddenly I hear small bare feet padding across the wood flooring. She's coming! I close my eyes and wait patiently, adrenaline pumping through my veins.
THUMP! I hear a scraping noise which is then followed by sobbing. I immediately react and crawl back out of my hiding spot. "Sakura, what happened?" I see her sprawled across the floor with blood gushing from her knee. "I-I tripped on that toy." She points to a misplaced toy lying on the floor. I scowl at the object in recognition, then look back at the pinkette. "I'm sorry. It'll be okay, I promise." I help her into a sitting position, then she throws herself onto me. I hold her and silently promise to my five-year-old self to never cause her pain again.
"Hah, okay. It was a good movie. I guess." Sakura laughs as we walk out. "You hadn't seen it yet?" I inquire as I throw our trash away. She shakes her head no. "I had been working all summer. I didn't have time to see a movie." I nod. I didn't work at all and still probably had triple what the pinkette did. But I can't tell her that.
"What are you doing tomorrow?" She sighs. "Working a ten hour shift. Luckily I was off when you texted me earlier, or else I wouldn't have come tonight." Her cheeks turn a slight pink. "Thanks, by the way. I had fun."
"Yeah...I did too." I answer back truthfully. It reminded me of my more carefree childhood. "Do you need a ride home?" I say before thinking. She waves her hand. "I don't want to intrude. I've already taken you away from your family. They probably are missing you enough as it is, especially with Itachi gone—"
"You know about that? Don't say a word to anyone else, okay!?" I fervently exclaim. "My parents told me as soon as yours told them. And it won't get around, I promise." Sakura stares into my eyes. "I knew you were hurting, Sasuke, so I was surprised you wanted to hang out with me. It's been...so long since we did something together. You needed me and as long as I am able, I will come by your side. You got that?" She turns playful and punches my arm.
"Sakura, we aren't kids anymore. We have real problems now...You can't always be there." I turn my back on her and start walking in the direction of our meeting spot.
"What, you're just going to leave?" I hear her running up behind me. I continue walking. "I don't know what happened to make you like this, but it's not the same Sasuke I knew–and–and fell in love with!" I hear her steps stop and we both stand still. I feel the gentle breeze go by us as we stand on the dimly lit, empty pathway.
"Sasuke, you acted like your old self earlier. We just enjoyed a movie together since who knows how long! And now we're going to end this night like this?" I can tell by her tone of voice that she's starting to tear up. Why is this happening? It was just supposed to be some stupid dare, and now look. Two people broken apart are being hurt even more. And it's all Itachi's fault.
After a moment of silence I turn around and walk back to the weeping girl. "Sakura...I've been hurt more than you can understand. Just...Just forget that this ever happened, okay? You can't be attached to me. Not anymore." Before I can do anything else she grabs me in a tight hug. Sakura, I can't let you get hurt. Instead of listening to my head, though, I don't push her away but hold her. "Sa-sasuke...I'm not going to..to leave you alone in the pain. Whatever happened, I can be let in and you can trust me like you used to." I want to, but I can't. But whatever I do, I am stopping this dare. And yet I still don't let go of her trembling frame.
What do you guys think? I might try out the flashbacks every now and then, but it'd really only work for SasuSaku. NaruHina don't have a past friendship in this—Heck, he barely knows the girl. Hahaha. What do you think is Sasuke's problem? I'll try to update again, but PLEASE REVIEW so I know I have people wanting to read it. ^^; Thanks for reading!
