Chapter 27 Truth or Drink

Rory took backroads the rest of the way home, her mind still racing. This had been one of the craziest weeks of her life, and it was far from over. She still had one more test; Logans. God only knows what that one would entail.

Meanwhile, Finn was embellishing the mental image he got of Rory and the cop with some X rated scenes.

"Finn!" Rory called to him. "You're too quiet. That worries me."

"Sorry love, I seem to be caught in my thoughts." Finn chuckled, winking at her.

"Oh God." She wailed. "What I have to do to be part of your freaking club. That was super illegal by the way."

"Well, don't worry; it's only 7:45. We have plenty of time to get home before curfew." Finn reassured.

"Finn! That's not the point. Oh never mind!" Rory sighed. She pulled up to the front gate and left the car with the valet.

"You're just lucky the cop likes brunettes." Rory rolled her eyes.

"We both are lucky, darling." he laughed. "We both are."

The went inside and looked around. The Mansion was quiet and dimly lit. It smelled like roses and lilac. The staff were cleaning the rooms and doing their day to day chores; the sound of Mozart playing softly in the background.

"Most of the brigadiers must be out I suppose. We don't have our event until 10 tonight." Finn said, looking at his watch.

"What event, Finn." Rory asked curiously. She could feel her alcohol soaked body swaying as she tried to steady herself. Her thoughts went back to Jess and the kiss. She couldn't exactly say there weren't fireworks. I mean he was her ex-boyfriend for a reason. But Logan he was so amazing... and wonderful... and god...so sexy.

"Oh Bollocks! Me and my big handsome mouth. Damn! You weren't supposed to know!" Finn put his hand on his forehead.

Then he looked at her and pointed "OK, I'll make you a deal. If you don't ask anymore questions, and don't tell a single soul I told you, then I won't tell anyone about the kiss."

"What kiss?" Rory said a little too fast. Oh no how did Finn find out. Who told him? Colin probably. He was so mad at me! But it's so not fair because It was stupid Jess, not me! He kissed me, not the other way around.

"Ha ha Rory! Good one. I'm never going to forget tonight." Finn winked.

"Oh… Right." Rory rolled her eyes. Oh yeah, the cop. "Fine, Finn. I promise."

"Good. Now are you hungry? The chef could whip you up something?"

"No thanks, Finn. I think I'm going to go upstairs and hang out in my room for a bit. Well, until the thing that's not happening at 10 PM, anyway." Rory grinned.

"All right, you cunning seductress. Let me know if you need company, darling." Finn smiled, gave Rory a hug, and kissed her on the forehead. "Go sober up."

Rory left Finn and went up the stairs to her bedroom. She changed into her pajamas and jumped onto her bed with the Shakespeare book she was given. She got in about 20 minutes of McBeth before she passed out.

-Flashback-

Finn and Rory left to begin his challenge. He was so excited that he could barely contain himself.

Stephanie laughed to herself. Finn was such a big kid. She loved her Finnegan, that's for sure. She then looked at her other best friend. But she felt that now, when she looked at him, she saw someone else. Sure she still had feelings of love and family for him, but now, she felt this… Lust. It was so weird. Ever since that kiss… She couldn't stop thinking about it. His sexy eyes… his smooth lips… The spark that she felt when he touched her. God, her own thoughts were turning her on.

"I need a drink!" Stephanie said to herself and headed to find a bar in the mansion she could sneak off to.

Colin and looked up at the ceiling in his room. He went up there right after Rory and Finn had left. Everything was messed up. Jess was trying to get between Logan and Rory, and it had gotten weird between him and Stephanie. What had happened? Everything was going so well, but then that breakfast. It was just so damn awkward between them. And seeing Rory and Jess didn't help. He didn't even get to talk to Stephanie after she followed Rory. He felt bad for making Rory cry. That hadn't been his intention. He just got so mad. He knew she loved Logan but he was so protective of her and he didn't want that little weasel getting in and ruining things. But he also feared that Stephanie was mad at him. He needed to make things right.

Colin slipped on his shoes and went downstairs. It seemed to have pretty much calmed down. The LDB'rs were all in their rooms, changing for the day. He crept down the stairs further to the basement level. He knew this old house very well since his family owned the property. He had come here sometimes in the summer with his dad and grandfather. They would teach him to golf and fish. He would even get lessons on investing, but those were much less fun. He heard a piano gently plucking a few notes at the end of the corridor. He walked along the narrow copper hallway, carpeted in plush burgundies and browns, using the wall to help guide him along way. It was dimly lit but one room had a glow under the door frame. The notes rang louder as he stood there listening for a second. Then he knocked quietly and the piano stopped. The door opened to a beautiful bright eyed girl.

"Stephanie?" Colin asked, gazing fondly at her.

"Hey Colin." Stephanie smile back. "I needed a drink." He laughed and she gestured him in closing the door behind her.

"Want one?" She asked, her heart beating fast again.

"Sure. Scotch neat, if you have it."

"You mean, if your family does." She laughed.

"Yeah, right..." Colin felt cold and sweaty... And awkward. What the hell. It was still Stephanie after all. Why have they gotten so weird with each other. He had known her his entire life.

"So Rory and Finn are out on his challenge." She said, making small talk.

"Haha. Yeah, God, I hope he doesn't give Rory alcohol poisoning."

"I hadn't thought of that. Oh no!" Stephanie laughed.

"Steph..." Colin started.

"Yeah?" Stephanie looked into his eyes.

"Let's play Truth, Dare, or Drink." Colin said, instantly kicking himself for choking.

"What's that?" She asked, amused.

"So it's like truth or dare, but you could take a shot instead of doing the truth or dare."

"Then that game should be just call drink." She laughed.

"Fine, how about Truth or Drink."

"Alright. That works for me." Colin laughed "I'll go first. Stephanie, Truth or Drink?"

"Drink!" She laughed.

"Ok, drink a shot of whiskey." Colin challenged.

"Wait, I thought you were just supposed to like take a sip of your drink." Steps gasped.

"Ha! Did I forget to explain that we get to choose the drink for each other?!" Colin smiled evilly.

"Damn you, Rockefeller! You're on!" Stephanie said and downed the shot.

An hour and a half, most of the bottle of whiskey and a couple awkward truths about wetting the bed later, Stephanie was lying on the piano singing while Colin played.

"Don't stop, belieeeeving!" She sang. "Hold on to that feellllling. STREET LIGHTS, PEOPLEEEEEE!"

They finished the song and Stephanie hopped off the piano.

"Alright Col, truth or dare." She said, slurring her words a bit.

"Truth."Colin said. He needed to take a break from the liquor for a moment. He was officially drunk.

"Whooo ok. Let me think. She grabs a glass of wine and she lies back down on the piano table.

Umm, gosh I know everything about you already." She laughed. "Well fine,'I know one."

"Let's have it, Vanderbilt!" Colin answered, lying down next to her.

Stephanie turned on her side to face him. She smiled, her eyes locking with his. Her heart was in her throat. She needed to ask him this eventually. She had to know if he felt the same way about her. She had to know if she was just wasting her time.

"Why haven't you dated anyone recently." Stephanie said breathlessly.

"What do you mean, recently? I've gone out with a bunch of girls." Colin scowled. "Just because I'm not as suave as Finn..."

"No no that's not what I mean." She interrupted. "I mean it's been a long time since, you know, you um loved someone." She stammered.

"Well, that's not exactly true either." Colin grinned. "I've loved a girl now for a while. I'm just not sure she feels the same. Don't want to ruin the frendship, you know. He breathed, getting closer to her on the piano.

"Oh yeah? How come I've never heard about her?" Steph asked, her head warm and foggy.

"Well you may have, in conversation." Colin murmured, he looked at her lips part and he couldn't tear his eyes away.

"I know for a fact that I do not know of this girl." Stephanie whispered.

"Aww Steph...Colin groaned. "It's you, it's always been you!" And like a magnetic pull they lips crashed together, hearts beating frantically.
