The sound of a strumming bass caused the busy club to go silent. Keys were hit at the perfect time by the pianist but played second to the sound coming from the bass. For a nightclub to be playing soft and slow music during a busy meant it could only be one singer. The girl was the talk of the town. First woman to ever perform at the club. The singer would try to give a performance every Saturday night, but some Saturday nights she could not due to other gigs. Not a single guest knew why a woman of her talents was slumming it at the gangster's club. The man in charge knew as he was the one who convinced the talented beauty to perform at least on song at his club on the nights she could perform. If the guests were lucky or if she was in good spirits, two or even three would be sung by the siren of the night. The gangster was never sure if she was really that talented or her beauty made her voice sound the way she looked. Couldn't tell because he was entrapped by her beauty, and didn't want to be free.

Dressed in her best gown; a red charmeuse off the shoulder mermaid cowl draped evening dress. Black heels to match with the black gloves that covered her arms. Her long dark locks were down in chunky curls; parted to the right. The singer always wanted to look her best when performing any wear. The club was no different; especially when she was trying to capture the eye of one handsome man. Strutted slowly over to the microphone on stage from the backroom where she had been waiting. Her hand cupped the microphone before her siren voice swept through the club.

I want somebody else

somebody who could be

someone not like yourself

but somebody who loves me

I need somebody else

some other men to see

all that I'm looking

somebody who loves me

You know I walked out that door

if I could only get the nerve

and I find someone kind

like I know I deserve

All while she was singing, her brown eyes were locked on one booth. The booth only had one man sitting; the owner, the gangster, and the man who had managed to capture the siren. His eyes were only on her. No one could get him to look away from the temptress. Not even when one of his club girls came by to offer him a drink. All the man did was wave his hand to the waitress as dismissal. He was not going to dare to take his eyes off her; he was the luckiest man in the club to be able to have her attention.

I want somebody else

don't want no sympathy

just want somebody else

somebody who loves me

With that lost chorus sung, the audience began to applauded and cheer praises to the woman. A thousand-watt smile spread out on her red stained lips; pink hue covered her cheeks. Blew a kiss to one side, then the other, before blowing one right at the boss. Waved her right hand while exiting to go backstage. With the siren gone, the boss stood up to see where the beauty had gone.

"People are going to talk." She spoke when she heard the sound of leather shoes hit the hard floor.

"Let them talk." The boss replied to the woman while he walked up behind her. His hand moved to the back of her neck underneath her curls.

"Do you want my husband to find out?" The singer turned around to face her lover. A smirk sprawled on her lips, containing the laughter she had building up. Not a laugh out of joy, but out of the situation, the two are currently in. A married singer and a gangster having an affair during war times.

"You worry too much about the man you claim you don't love." Sounded bitter, jealous even. Niklaus may have been the most powerful man in the city, but even he had emotions.

A tsk sound left Elena's lips as she began to stand from her chair. "I don't love Damon anymore, but you know he won't let me go." Elena's bare right hand rubbed along her lover's white dress shirt. "No need to be jealous."

Just the word coming out of her mouth made anger bubble in him. His dominant hand grasped the side of her neck and pulled her in close to him to close the gap between their bodies. "My love." The gangster growled before pressing a hard kiss on her lips. Rough kiss that caused her lipstick to spread. Just one kiss brought the singer's mind back to when she first kissed the most feared man in all of Chicago. They were a hot and passionate couple in secret; barely acquaintances in public. His hand left her neck; traveled along her shoulder then went to her back to rid of her the dress on her body. That is where she stopped him.

"Not here." Her eyes shot around to make sure no one had wandered into the backstage area. Even with a powerful man, she was terrified her husband had eyes everywhere. The man was at war, but that wouldn't stop him from watching over her. Her husband, Damon Salvatore, the richest lawyers in Chicago. The only reason why he joined the war was to show he had pride in his country. It was to make sneaking around feel better, but it felt worst. Her husband hired a bodyguard, a driver, and even a butler to have around their apartment. He said it was to make her feel safe; all it did, was make her watched.

"Come to my place." He demanded from his girl. "Leave him, Elena. It is wartime, people would understand." Niklaus tried to reason with her.

"If I tried, he would ruin me, Niklaus." She spoke with terror in her eyes. Her body moved from his a few steps. "I love you, but I also love performing. Not just here."

"Elena, I would never let him do such a thing to you." Niklaus embraced her once again. "You are mine and mine alone. I protect what is mine." He promised her.

This time when he kissed her, it was a soft kiss. One that only lovers would share when alone. But they weren't alone. A photo was taken that would change their lives.

Much to Elena's surprise, the once bad in her life was fading. The last month went pretty well; especially how she left things when she had left Mystic Falls. Caroline and Elena made up; they both felt awful about nearly destroying their friendship over some guy. Even Tyler and Caroline had moved on. Damon was still being overprotective, but he was just worried about her. Alaric and Jeremy were upset that Elena ran off with Damon, but even they couldn't stay mad at her. Stefan and Elena, they were rocky…meaning they haven't spoken since Elena returned. According to Damon, Stefan thought Elena and Damon leaving together meant they were on some sort of lover's getaway. Despite both of them denying it, Stefan was not letting the idea go. At least Matt was still there for her. She hadn't confided in him about the pregnancy, just about everything else. She had done the same with Bonnie.

The idea of telling her friend group had come to her mind many times. But how would Elena fully explain it to them? Even Elena didn't fully understand it. Her best way of explaining it all was witchy mumbo jumbo. Damon had agreed to keep her secret but had advised her that she would have to eventually tell them. In just a month or so, she should start showing. That would be harder to hide than just lying about not adjusting to blood bags. A small part of her wondered if she should watch that dumb vampire movie that Caroline had dragged Bonnie and Elena to. The second part was much better anyways. Okay, her pregnancy would not be like that, but what was it going to be like? She was the first vampire to ever get pregnant. How was the pregnancy going to be? How was labor going to be? There wasn't a book named "What to Expect When You're Expecting: Vampire Edition". Maybe Elena could write one, but she doubted that any other vampire would ever be pregnant.

"Earth to Elena." Caroline's snapping fingers brought Elena out of her mind and back to reality. Where she was supposed to be having a lazy Sunday with the girls. Back to where the three of them had to fight Kol, Jeremy, and Matt over the TV. Boys had lost, and they were forced to go over to Kol's place to play their video games.

"Sorry," Elena muttered under her breath. She sat back on her family's couch while she was trying to get comfortable. Another one of her problems, she started to find it hard to get comfortable even on the plush couch and she wasn't even showing yet.

"You have been spacing out a lot. Are you still worried about the tether to the witch?" Bonnie asked her best friend when her eyes drifted from watching two popular girls give the skater chick a makeover to make her popular. A good 90s movie, but it wasn't the movie either Bonnie or Elena had picked to watch.

The doppelgänger had a lot to worry about. Worried about that. Worried about the pregnancy. Worried about telling all her friends. The fact her child's life lays in the hand of some witch who thought to get what they want was to threaten a child's life; her child's life. Then the witches were treating it like they were being forced to do it. The last worry was something she didn't ever expect to worry about. The worry if Klaus was safe; shouldn't be worried him as he could take care of himself. Though, she did worry about him. Even about his siblings.

"I am worried about that." Elena gave the short answer to her friends.

"You are going to be fine. You are a vampire." Caroline reminded Elena. It wasn't Elena's life she was worried about, no it was her child's life. Elena knew for a fact that Klaus just wanted to snap the witch's neck, but Elijah was stopping him. Elena was afraid if she even died for just a moment, her child would be killed. It would be easier if she knew more about her pregnancy, but the pregnancy was anything but normal. A hybrid for a father and a vampire doppelgänger for a mother.

"Niklaus! You can not go around killing whoever you want!" Elijah snapped at his brother. The two had been in an ongoing matching since that morning. Elijah had learned Klaus killed Sabine to try to kill Celeste. Celeste had jumped out of Sabine's body before Klaus snapped her neck. "The witches could easily kill Elena!"

"She was antagonizing me. She was threatening on how she could easily burn down the city." Klaus argued with his older brother. "I am tired of her interjecting herself into our lives."

"I am growing tired of your behavior, Niklaus." Elijah glared at his hotheaded younger brother. "There are more important things than the city, like Elena's safety."

"If the witches wanted to do something. They would have already." Klaus remarked as he was fixing himself a drink at the bar.

Both of them heard the front door swing open, but they weren't expecting any guests. Rebekah was up in her room, and Josh was not to report in until later. Elijah dropped the book that was in his hand to run to the door to see who their surprise visitor was. A part of him was hoping Elena had returned but knew there was a small chance of her returning. Klaus threw back the amber liquid in the glass before he dashed to the spot. Both of them spotted the witch tethered to Elena. She was struggling to keep a hold on the banister to keep her upright.

"Are you smashed?" Klaus asked; a bit confused on why a drunk witch would just wander into his house.

Sophie lifted her head. Her face was pale. Cold shivers were hidden around her body. A sweat breaking from her. Her lips quivered when she tried to speak.

"Celeste wants you to know, you brought this on yourself." When she began to fall, Elijah caught her while Klaus stayed frozen.

"Call Elena." Elijah barked at his brother who was dumbfounded by Elijah's attempts to care for the sick witch.

The shivers came first. Bonnie had thought ghosts, but then the sweat came next. When Caroline touched Elena's head, she was burning up. That was impossible. Elena was a vampire; her body should not be extremely hot. It was Bonnie that took the vampire's temp. 98. Impossible. Caroline was on the phone with Damon before Bonnie could stop her, but Bonnie got on her own phone to call Jeremy.

The men arrived just when Elena was puking her guts out. It was more than morning sickness. Blood she had drunk earlier was coming up that time. Her small hand struggled to grip the toilet's handle to flush down the mess. No one knew why it was happening. Hell, no one knew how it was happening. It should be impossible for a vampire to be running a fever. She should be ice cold, but the woman was body temperature was getting hotter every moment. Then she was losing her balance, fading in and out, barely can see anything. Elena's mind when it was clear, was in a frenzy. Filled with panic for her child. How was her child going to survive Elena going through an impossible illness for a vampire to have?

"Elena?" Caroline's voice called out before opening the bathroom door. In Caroline's hand was a change of clothes and a towel. "Do you need help cleaning up?"

"Just help me up, Care," Elena spoke softly; a weakness in her voice. Caroline reached down to help her friend up from the tile flooring of the downstairs bathroom.

"You are going to be okay," Caroline promised Elena; though both girls weren't too sure about it. Damon stole Elena from Caroline. That way he could carry her outside to his car. "Where are you taking her?!" Caroline shouted at the older vampire.

He wasn't alone outside. Bonnie was standing by the passenger seat while Jeremy was already secured in the back seat. Bonnie looked up the blonde vampire who was standing on the porch dumbstruck on what was going on. Caroline was kept out of the loop that the other three knew about. They hadn't meant to, but they were in a hurry to get Elena down to New Orleans as fast as possible. Bonnie froze for a moment. She wanted to catch Caroline on what she was told on the phone by the two older originals. She didn't have time after Damon laid Elena down in the backseat with her brother. Bonnie gave Caroline a look before getting into the car to travel with Damon.

Damon raced out of the driveway and down the street ignoring several stop signs along his way to get out of the suburbs. The anger in the man was boiling and bubbling. How stupid did Klaus have to be? Did he want Elena to lose her life? Damon had no idea what was causing the sickness between Elena and the witch bitch, but he knew why they were sick. Because Klaus or one of the other dumb fucking originals put themselves before anyone else. Elena was in the backseat of his car, running a fever and trembling, and there was nothing Damon to do to stop it. Just because she was in love with Klaus, whether she wanted to admit or not, that did not stop Damon from still being in love with her. He was going to do anything to save the woman he loves and the child she loves.

Jeremy completely clueless on what was happening only had his focus on making his sister better. Held down a cold compress to her head in hopes it would do something to help cool down her body, but she seemed to just be getting hotter and worst. Her body temperature was growing hotter. When he took her temperature in the car she was at 100. That was worst for a human, he had no idea on how it felt on a vampire. Jeremy reached in between his ex-girlfriend and someone he called a friend, to turn up the air conditioning in order to keep Elena cold. Jeremy had seen a lot of things he once believed to be impossible, but seeing a vampire sweating was high up on his list of impossible things he had witnessed.

The vase shattered the moment it made contact with the wall. Water from the vase made a puddle that was filled with the broken glass and dying flowers that were once in the vase. Klaus had wanted to throw Sophie against the wall, but Elijah was preventing him from doing so. Protecting the same witch who just announced she won't break the spell unless the brothers save her from the poison.

"Release her now and I might kill you faster after the spell is broken!" Klaus roared at the woman.

"Niklaus." Elijah snapped at his brother. "Call Marcel. See what his witch can do. Tell him Elena is at risk."

A meeting between Elijah and Marcel happened a little over a week before that terrible night. Elijah believed he was going to discuss the on-going battle between Klaus and Marcel. Marcel had another topic in mind. Elena. To be more exact, Elena's unborn child. Marcel expressed concern if Klaus were to be around that child. Elijah was not sure how Marcel found out or how he knew that Elijah knew about the child. There was a third thing he was not sure of and that was if Marcel's concern was real. Elijah was choosing to believe it at that moment, but only for one reason.

"Why would Marcel care if Elena is at risk?" Klaus questioned his brother.

"Trust me, he will help," Elijah spoke with a stern tone in his voice. "Go to Marcel."

"No!" Klaus argued with his brother once again. "I am not bringing that traitor in. There has to be another witch. Isn't that Bennett witch showing up?"

"She only has so much magic. If Marcel's witch can help then we need her to save Elena!" Elijah was starting to lose his calm exterior.

"Elena can survive anything, she is a vampire. She will just heat up, maybe die for a moment but she will come back." Klaus pointed out as he moved over to the bar to get himself another drink.

"No, she can't." The witch singsong from behind Elijah. "She can, sort of." The delirious and dehydrated witch couldn't keep her mouth shut.

"What the bloody hell is she going on about?" Klaus questioned Sophie's statement.

"She is pregnant, Niklaus." Elijah admitted the truth out loud for the first time since he had found about the pregnancy. "Elena is pregnant with your child. That is why Celeste poisoned Sophie to get back you by killing your child."

Klaus's reaction was stunned. Not a single bone inched. Not a single word passed through his lips. While his body was frozen, his mind was racing. Pregnant. Elena. How? There was no possible way. Not at all. He was undead. She was undead. How could such a thing occur? Klaus had sex with vampires through the ages. Humans too. A werewolf or witch here or there. Not one had gotten pregnant before that doppelganger. Bedding Katherine didn't result in pregnancy, so it could not be a doppelganger type deal. Nothing made sense.

"I will go see Marcel." Klaus finally spoke up only to the leave at the first chance he had.

Elena's body temperature kept growing. It was reaching dangerous levels for a human. Damon had been driving as fast as he could. For once, Bonnie and Jeremy did not criticize his driving. The two of them were more focused on Elena than to bitch about Damon's dangerous driving. The only time they did when they arrived at their location, and that was due to the fact Damon slammed on the brakes causing a screeching noise.

"Damon, next time just slow down." Jeremy snapped at the older vampire when the car came to a full halt.

"Shut up, baby Gilbert." Damon snapped right back before he got out of the car. Slammed the driver door shut before Damon dashed to the back seat to grab the dying vampire out of the backseat. "Mikaelson!" Damon called out as he carried Elena bridal style towards the front door.

Elijah dashed out of the front door towards the car. Elijah stole Elena from Damon's arms then turned his head to Bonnie. "I need you to make the pool water out back ice cold. Sophie's body temperature cooled down when Rebekah tossed her into the cold pool. Elena needs to get cold as soon as possible."

Elijah dashed back to the pool to get Elena into the cold water to start cooling her body temperature. The other three were right behind them. Rebekah and Sophie were already out there with Sophie in the pool and Rebekah standing by the edge of the pool. Bonnie got the spell quickly, holding her hand out towards the pool. Elijah could feel Elena's body start to grow cool from the water and from being close to his own cold body.

"Is it safe for the baby?" Damon asked not caring that he was revealing Elena's pregnancy to the future aunt, future uncle, and most likely the future godmother.

Bonnie was fazed, stopping her from chanting, but after receiving daggers from Elijah's eyes, she picked up chanting once again. Jeremy and Rebekah both had the same wide eye looked on their faces.

"The temperature should be safe." Sophie said between her chattering teeth. Sophie was shivering in the pool but that was a good thing. If Sophie's body was cold, that meant Elena's body would be growing colder.

"Elijah…" Elena's faint voice came out of her mouth. "Where am I?" Her voice growing stronger.

"You are in the plantation house." Elijah told Elena. "We are working on a cure for the poison working through your system."

"The baby." Elena's eyes grew worried as she tried to move from Elijah's arms, but he kept a firm grip on her to keep her ice cold. Elijah needed to keep Elena and the baby safe.

The ice-cold water would slow down the poison, but not for much longer. They only had an hour left until the poison killed Sophie and mostly like Elena's child. Elijah was starting to worry, but only in his head. He couldn't let Elena or anyone else see that he was worrying. Klaus should have been back, but they were still waiting for his younger brother. Elena started to look better; she was even staying awake unlike she had during the whole long car ride to New Orleans. She chose to remain quiet. Hadn't said anything since she worried about her unborn child. The vampire and the hunter outside the pool were pacing back and forth. Their eyes were glued to the one woman they couldn't live without. Bonnie continued to chant to keep the water ice-cold to keep Sophie's and Elena's body cool. Rebekah was standing by the chanting witch watching the spoils of war affecting a pregnant woman's life. Rebekah did not blame Celeste. She fully blamed her older brother's inability to control his anger. If her brother had just controlled the beast in him, all of them could be much happier. With all the shit that had happened between Rebekah and the last doppelganger, Rebekah did not want anything to happen to Elena or her child.

"Elijah?" The hybrid's voice could be heard by everyone without the need of supernatural hearing. Klaus ran out to the back along with Marcel. The two vampires arrived just in time to witness the magic of the young witch of Marcel's work. Everyone around the pool witnessed as black sludge leaked out of Elena's and Sophie's lips. While Sophie wiped it off her lips, Elijah cleaned off Elena's lips from the poison that escaped her body. Elijah turned to his brother and nodded a thank you to him. Elijah carried Elena out of the pool. Though the poison was out of her body, Elena was still weak from the poison that had coursed through Elena's blood.

"Put her in my bed." Klaus told his older brother. "Put her under the blankets I have in there. Should warm her body." Elijah nodded his head at his brother's request. The group watched Elijah disappear into the house with Elena.

"We are going to have a serious discussion tomorrow." Rebekah growled at her older brother while she walking towards the house.

Bonnie helped Sophie out of the pool and handed her a towel. Klaus's eyes darted right over to the two witches.

"Bennett, unlink Elena and that witch." Klaus ordered out of the witches before setting his dark eyes on Salvatore. "Did you know?"

Damon was unfazed by Klaus's threatening position and look on the hybrid's face. The Salvatore vampire rolled his eyes but nodded his head. "She told me. Doesn't that tell you about what she thinks of you." That little lined nearly got his heart ripped out by Klaus, but Marcel stepped in between the hybrid and the younger vampire.

"Why don't you two continue this conversation in the morning." Marcel was acting like the voice of reason for the first time in a long time. "You two should be glad that Elena is going to be fine, and not be acting like brutes." Both of the men in Elena's life had to agree with Marcel. They should not be fighting after they nearly lost the love of both of their lives.

She was safe. That was the important thing. Not the lying or the secrets. Hell, not even the battle with Marcel mattered anymore. She was going to be safe. The Bennett witch was going to unlink Elena from the wicked witch. No longer was her life going to be at risk. Their child life was going to be safe as long she was with him. The hybrid was not sure if he was ready, but he was sure of one thing. He was not going to let anyone harm his child or the mother of his child.

Klaus watched the sleeping doppelganger from the doorway to his bedroom. Her breathing was normal for a vampire. Her olive skin tone was no longer the pale that the poison made her skin look. She had fallen asleep peacefully; he was surprised how easily she fell asleep after a near-death experience. Amused him that she seemed to be at ease in his bed. Looked more comfortable than she had when she was sleeping in the guest room. Not that Klaus would ever admit to watching Elena sleep when she was in the guest room. In all truth, he was glad to see she was at peace and was calm after the day she had.

With his supernatural hearing, he chose to listen in on her heartbeat. The hybrid just wanted to make sure her heartbeat had returned to normal. Sounded like it had, but there was a much stronger heartbeat coming from the south of her body. Klaus turned his attention to that beating. His child's heartbeat. Beating healthy. A genuine smile spread out the cold hybrid's lips.

I just wanted to let everyone know for the next two chapters they will be completely written in the third person. Just the next two chapters for the timing being. There will just be a lot of different stuff happening between the characters that it better fits in the third person. Today's dream sequence was brought to you by Smallville, season 6, episode Noir…okay, inspired by. Once again, I own nothing. Not the characters, song, show…blah blah blah. Anyways, I am glad my muse is back. Let me know if you prefer first or third because I have been trying to decide whether to keep it first or change it to third due to all the characters and storylines. Another thing, I mashing together the first season of Originals and the fourth season of Vampire Diaries, if you couldn't tell. I know they happen at different times, but for this story, I thought it would fit best to mix the two together.
