The brunette was sitting on top of the hood of his Impala while waiting for him to leave the bar. Watched as each person either left or entered the bar. Just waiting to see the blonde man she was waiting on. Sure, she had her book to keep her company, but she wouldn't remain patient for much longer. The ass-hat needed to stop hustling and get his fucking ass outside to her. Leaning back on the hood; her back rested against the windshield of his beloved car while her feet were propped up on the hood. If he wanted to play hustle and keep her waiting, she no longer cared if she scuffed up his prized Impala. Sure, she would hear him bitch but it certainly would be worth it in the end.
"Love…" The English accent flowed out of the bar; the accent could be heard over the loud obnoxious noise coming from the bar he was exiting from. "Elena Marie Gilbert! What are you doing?"
A small laugh passed through her pink lips. Her eyes refused to look up from the line on her book. Focusing more on the book then on the tantrum the English man was throwing. It was too much fun for her. Sure, it wasn't the same feeling she had felt, but at least he was feeling frustrated.
"Please, love. Get off my car." Begging, that was a new one for him. Probably going through the five stages of grief. At least that was what Elena thought just to amuse herself. "Elena! Get off the hood!"
Bargaining and now anger. Which fun phase was he going to do next? Denial, depression or acceptance?
"This isn't funny, love. Get off my car right now! Get off the hood of my baby!" No surprise, just more anger from big bad Klaus. "Elena, please. You are scuffing up Baby." He was pleading with her.
"Oh, but it is funny." Elena finally replied to her partner. Started to sit up, only to put the dirty bottoms of her combat boots on the hood. "See, I have been out here for how long? An hour? Two? Maybe more. All so you can make…how much did you make?"
"A few hundred." He mumbled under his breath.
"Not bad, but next time did not keep a girl waiting for so long." She mentioned while sliding off the hood of the car.
Once off the car, he was checking the hood. Wiping down spots of dirt and invisible scratches. "Thank god, baby." He whipped his hand against the hood before turning his attention the girl. "You know, you can be angry at me, but do not take it out on Baby."
With that, her dominant hand landed a clean, hard smack against his cheek.
"What that bloody hell was that for?" He nearly yelled at her.
"Told me to take my anger out on you." She fired back while she turned her back to him to get into the passenger side.
"I did not me to do it now." He shot back to her.
Elena ignored his anger as she was putting her bag by her feet at the bottom of the car. She knew she could get under his skin, but he could get under hers. They were a great match. Probably why they started hunting together when his brothers chose to give up the life. It changed him, she just knew it. Spent more time drinking and hustling during their down times than he normally did. Elijah never enjoyed the life, and Kol found something…someone to make him happy. She tried to get Klaus to at least call them, but he was a stubborn man. Too hard headed for his own good sometimes.
"Did you find any cases when I was in there or were you too busy scuffing up my baby?" He asked when he joined her in the car.
Without answering him, she leaned forward to fish out the newspaper from her bag. When she had it in her hands, she dropped it right in his lap.
"Four animal-like attacks." She started to stay.
"Hearts missing?" He asked while looking through the section.
"Nope. None of them were even lucky. Nothing about any good fortune." She added in more information.
"No hellhounds. Maybe it was just animal attacks." He said while starting up the car.
An eye roll from the passenger and a small scoff. "There are more than just those two that can be looked like animal attacks. There is wendigo, skin walkers, or it could be a vengeful spirit. Why don't we go check it out before we say there is nothing?"
"And you call me stubborn." He grumbled under his breath again.
"Hey." Her hand reached behind his head to grab the back of his neck. Just needed to get his attention. "If you need a break, we can go somewhere. We can call Jeremy and Matt, and we can take a vacation."
Leaning in, she gave him a gentle kiss on the lips. A smile spread out on his lips when he could feel her lips on his. He kissed her back only for a moment before he pulled his head back. His eyes turned back to the windshield to start backing out of the space they were parked in.
"We will go and check it out." He admitted defeat. "But if you are wrong, I am so dragging you into the next bar."
"Fine, and if I am right, you have to call your brothers."
"No."
"Fine, just one of them." She tried with him.
"Fine." Another grumble under his breath.
"You shouldn't pout." She mentioned, as he driving them to the highway. "You will get wrinkles."
"Watch it, Mikaelson." He warned her.
"Watch it yourself, Mikaelson." She loved teasing him. Seemed to take his mind off everything.
Elena wished her husband would understand why his brothers left. A small part of Elena wanted to quit, but she couldn't. There were too much bad in the world. She didn't want to have to worry about having to be scared for the rest of her life if they were to give up the life. Half of that small part knew she would never quit unless Klaus did. How could she wait around knowing he was in danger?
"You are thinking too hard." Klaus mentioned when Elena was lost in her thoughts. "Might get wrinkles."
"Bite me." She snipped at him
…
The morning rays filled up the bedroom slowly. It was until around eight that morning, they hit sleeping beauty in the bed of the room. A small groan passed through her lips. While her hand searched for her blanket, her body rolled to the side to put the rays on her back. Something was different. Something was off.
'Wait' She thought to herself. 'I am not in my bed.'
With that thought, her heavy eyelids began to open slowly to ease her into the brightly lit room. The room wasn't even the guest room where she had been staying in at the plantation. No, the room was larger. Brighter colored for sure. While walls in her room were a near plum, these ones were white or some sort of cream color. While the guest room had darker stained furniture, the owner of the furniture around the room just for a more in the middle of stained wood furniture. Speaking of the owner.
Her dark hues found him sitting not too far from her. Sat in a chair in the corner of the room. His elbows were on his knees, and his knuckles were under his chin. Wide awake. Had been for several hours…okay, the whole night. It was hard for him to wrap his brain around the news he had received the day before, and the news he confirmed to be true just the previous night.
The beating continued through the night. Sounded human, but he was hoping the heartbeat was more than human. Didn't want to be the only one of his kind.
"Were you watching me sleep?" Sleeping Beauty's voice still hinted at her tiredness, but her question was clear. Why the hell was he watching her sleep? Since when did he become a creeper?
"I was worried." He defended his stalker-like actions. "You nearly died last night or did you forget?"
"I've died before." It wasn't meant as an insult to him, but that was how he took it. "I would have been fine." She knew she was lying but her mind was not made up yet on her choice to tell him or not.
"You would have been." He agreed with her, but he wasn't done yet. "But would our child?"
Who? Why? When? How? All the popular questions popped into her mind. Who had told him? Had she? Could she have let it slip when she was in her delirious state? How? Just how? No way she would have told him even if she was delirious. Damon wouldn't. Damon hated Klaus; he would never tell him.
"Who?" She had to rip the band-aid off and find out who had revealed the news that was hers to share.
"Elijah." Klaus revealed. "It was the only way to get me understand why we needed to save Sophie."
Fucking Elijah. Elena cursed him in his head. Sure, he had to do, but she was not sure how Klaus would react to the fact in a little under eight months, he was going to be a father of a living, breathing baby.
"My turn for questions." Klaus announced as he stood up from his spot in the chair. In a blink of an eye, he was right in front of her but did not join her in the bed. "How long have you known? How did it even happen? How many people know?"
"The package. The one you brought to me before I went to the party. It had a test in it. That night, I found out the test said it. I went to the doctor's and they confirmed it. I have photos in my wallet, but I doubt anyone thought to grab that before we left." Elena started to answer his three questions like she was genie granting his wishes. "Celeste. Apparently, as a born hybrid, you can still produce children. The black goo Celeste had me drink before…you know…"
"We had sex." He cleared up for her.
"Yes. Anyways, the shit Lenore red was wrong. First, we fall in love, consummate, and then have a child in order to break the curse. She confused the and for or. As for the people that know. Celeste and Lenore were expecting it. I chose to tell Damon, but when I did, Sabine and Elijah overheard. Sabine told the witches, who in turn informed Marcel. I also vaguely remember announcing the baby in front of Bonnie, Rebekah, and Jeremy last night." With that, his wishes were all used up.
An expression she had seen on his face appeared. A clenched jaw. Brows in a frown. His eyes permanently glued to the floor. Both of his arms were crossed over his quickly moving chest. His throat tightened as if he was trying to swallow a large pill. The truth of it all was lodged in his throat. It was a lot. It was a lot of impossible but it was all the truth.
"All those people." He piled her answer into one group. "All those people." He repeated while his head began to shake. "Did it ever cross your mind to tell the father of the child?"
"Crossed my mind more than once, Klaus." Elena felt like she had to defend herself from him. "I thought about ever since I found out I was pregnant. Every waking moment, the thought appeared. I thought about it until you revealed to me that you were already informed."
"Why not tell me?" The monster was coming out now. The anger bubbling in him slowly started to show. Replacing its brother, pain. Rage and anger were taking form.
"Because I didn't think you would be a good father." It was something that Elena believed and thought about but never had said it out loud before.
"What?" His tone was like that of a snake.
"I have witnessed you with your own flesh and blood. I have witnessed you plot to lock up your siblings. I have seen you execute those plans. I have witnessed you kill. I am not saying, that I haven't done any of those, both none of them were my family. You chose to hurt your siblings. To take away their love and happiness." Elena's explanation went on. "How was I to know that you were going to change? I have never seen any change in you before."
"Poppycock!" The beast inside of him roared out to her. "I fell in love." Klaus turned down his volume to admit.
"You fell in love? With who? Because it sure wasn't me. Unless you show the woman, you love your affection by screwing their best friend!" She was having enough him. How dare he say he fell in love.
"How did the curse break then? Answer me that." He growled out at her.
That growl got Elena out of the bed. She wanted to get far away from him. He had no right. He had no right to say he fell in love with her after all the shit he had done. No right!
Before Elena could leave the bedroom, Klaus was at the door preventing her from leaving their "discussion". His body taking up most of the doorway. He was not going to let her run away. He wanted answers.
"Elena, you know it is the truth." He pushed the pill of truth to her now. If he had to swallow the painful truth, she had to as well. "A child is different than my siblings."
"What about me?" Elena snapped at him. "You killed me. You killed my flesh, blood, and love. You forget you compelled my birth mom to kill herself. You killed Jenna in front of me. Then all the chaos you brought into my life. Alaric is an original because of your mother. Tyler is your little pet project. I lost my first love. I died twice! I am a vampire because of your sister. You only bring chaos into my life."
All the things, problems, truths, she had shoved down because her heart was telling her she loves the man that had hurt her in some many ways, all were coming to life. Not all of her problems could be blamed on him, but there was a lot he brought with him that lead to these issues.
"Elena, stop." The growl passed through him.
"No. I won't." Elena announced. "I won't stop because it is hurting you. How do you think they made me feel after they happened? Did you know, I feared that I would never see my brother again when you were draining the life out of me? Did you know, how sore I was after the night in the gym? Did you know, what I felt when my lungs were filling with water?"
"Stop!" He shouted in her face. Just wanted her to stop her from making him feel. He hated that he brought out the emotions he had shut off years, decades…no, centuries ago. First happiness and love, now guilt filled the hybrid.
Elena pushed past the hybrid, but he was right on her trail. He was not going to let it all go. How did their conversation about her pregnancy bring up so much untouched anger?
"Elena." He called out to her when she got closer to the stairs. "We aren't done."
"We are." Elena said before she started to step down.
His hand was faster and caught her arm. He forced her to lose her footing…it was an accident. She started to trip, and his grip wasn't solid. Lucky for them both, Rebekah saved Elena from falling, but she did not save her brother from a lecture. Rather, she delivered one to him.
"She is pregnant, Niklaus!" Rebekah yelled at her brother. "You can't be yourself. You can't just grab her like that and expect her to be okay if she fell. Stop thinking of yourself!"
"I didn't mean to, Rebekah." Klaus tried to explain himself to his sister. He wasn't used to having to worry about Elena; having to treat her as if she was human. He had to worry about if she fell or gotten hurt in any way.
Elena was less upset than Rebekah was. Elena didn't even think about it until Rebekah saved her from falling down the steps. It was something new for both Elena and Klaus. Elena had to worry about dying, getting hurt even though she was a vampire. She could bounce back, but she was not sure if her baby could bounce back.
With those last words, Rebekah kidnapped Elena. The two had disappeared from the house.
…
Only safe place Rebekah thought of at the time was the compound. If Marcel was willing to save Elena, maybe he would let her stay away from Klaus. At least for a short bit.
"Marcel!" Rebekah called out before the two women walked in on Marcel in the library with a young girl. "Your taste certainly has changed. Jailbait?"
"I have a name." The young girl in the white dressed snapped. The young girl's eyes glared at Rebekah for her attitude. The hues in her eyes softened when she noticed Elena. "You are the pregnant vampire."
"I have a name." Elena repeated the girl's snap, but with a more playful tone in her voice. "Elena Gilbert. And you are?"
"Davina Claire." Marcel answered for the young girl. "You should thank Davina, Elena. She was the one that saved you."
"Thank you, Davina." Elena said with a smile on her lips. "I mean it. I truly appreciate it."
"Why are you two here?" Marcel questioned the elephant in the room.
"I need to talk to you." Rebekah spoke out. "Can you have some bring a few blood bags for Elena? I know she hadn't fed for a while."
"Davina stay here. I am going to have Diego come up with a blood bag for Miss. Gilbert. Don't let anyone else in the room." With those orders, Marcel took Rebekah out of the room to have a private chat.
Elena moved from her spot by the doorway over to a nearby couch. She was still out of it from the day before. The poison really did a number on her body. She had never experienced something like that before and never wanted to again.
"You must be a powerful witch." Elena tried to make conversation with the young girl.
"I am." Davina proudly said.
"I thought witches were not allowed to practice magic."
"They aren't. Only myself. If Marcel knew where the witch was who did it, she would have been killed." Davina's tone suggested it was not just Marcel who despised the witches.
"She is a tricky witch. Trust me." Elena said. "She can jump from body to body."
"I know. She was in my friend's body."
"Isn't she still in Monique's body?"
"Yes, but witches can't inhabit dead bodies for too long." Davina explained. "Hence why she would jump into Sabine's."
"Monique was dead? Then why were the witches wanting her body so badly?"
"I can't tell you." Davina muttered. "You are an outsider. You wouldn't understand."
"Well, I can try to understand."
…
The two former lovers sat in the room that once was her. It had been ninety years since the last time she had stepped into her former room. Still had the clothes she left behind. Nearly three hundred years of wardrobe crammed into one walk-in closet and one wardrobe. Thank god, he changed the sheets on the bed. She didn't want to learn what ninety-year-old sheets.
"Been renting my room out?" Rebekah asked while she was looking around her old room.
A chuckle passed through Marcel's lips. "No one, but I have been in this room since you left." Marcel stated. "Now, why did you want to talk, Rebekah?"
"I know of Elena's pregnancy," Rebekah informed him while she turned to face the man. "I worry for her safety, for the baby's. We both know what my brother does with children, does with family."
"What are you getting at?" Marcel was trying to pull the information out of Rebekah. Tired of her dancing around the subject
Rebekah was about to do something that she firmly hated, but she loved family more. She would rather protect the innocent than the murderous family. That meant betraying the murderer.
"I will help you, your people, and anything else. As long as if I do this, you stop my brother. We can find a way to put him down." Rebekah told Marcel. "I don't know how, but I will figure out a way."
"Why?" Marcel only wanted to know why Rebekah was willing to go back on always and forever.
"My brother will ruin the child. He can't be around that child. He already nearly hurt Elena today." Rebekah explained to him. "We are the only ones that care about that child's safety that truly know my brother. We can't let that child end up like…"
"Me." Marcel finished her thought for her. "That is all you want, my help?"
"While Elena is here, for as long as she is here, or whenever she is here, I want you to make sure she is protected. Both her and child." Rebekah said. "I don't care what she may do, or what may happen. You need to protect that girl and her child."
"Why me?"
"Another question, Marcellus?" Rebekah snipped. The blonde with California eyes rolled those baby blues at him. "You are strong. You have an army. I can't take him alone. Elijah and Kol won't help. Elijah, is too good for his own good, and Kol is too selfish. If you help, then we can take him down."
"I will do it, but you can't betray me, Rebekah. Not again." Marcel warned his new partner.
The hurt in her stung her sharply; worse than the tears she was choking back on. The woman shook off her tears and held a hard expression on her face.
"Don't worry about that." Rebekah said. "Can Elena stay here? I don't want her around my brother."
"No" Marcel started to say. "She can't. Not with all that goes on around here. Don't think it would be a safe environment for her to stay. But when I can find her a safe place, she can stay there."
"Fine. We will be back at the plantation. We can meet at the docks tomorrow." Rebekah left Marcel to his own to go collect Elena to bring her back to the plantation. Rebekah could at least protect her there.
…
The library in the plantation house was larger than the one the Salvatore's had. Yet the room held no knowledge of what Bonnie was looking for. Professor Shane had told her a story. A legend, a myth. Yet, he seemed so sure of its existence. Bonnie had to look for it. There were people…a person she let down when Bonnie couldn't help her out. If this legend was real, then she could help her out finally. Bonnie could fix the one thing she couldn't change with her magic. The danger she caused by trying to do it, caused her most of her magic. But with the magic Shane had been teaching her, she was able to start practicing again.
None of the books in the library had what she was looking for. Not even one book had any lore.
The immortal spell wasn't used until the originals…but maybe that was a lie. Maybe Esther wasn't the original witch. The Mikaelson siblings were the original vampires, but they weren't the first immortals.
From her lessons, the first immortal went by the name of Silas. Silas was to be locked away, forced to guard the one thing that could take immortality away. Forced to suffer through his years as a prisoner, guarding the one thing he desired more than anything in the world.
As the lore went only five chosen people…hunters could find the cure. The five. Only they could lead the way to the cure. Those hunters were not of choice but always meant to be hunters. They were born to be hunters. Several problems arose. One, hunters protected the cure. If someone took the cure, then they would release Silas on to the world. Two, no one knew who these chooses five were. Lastly, only those five had access to the map.
Not a damn book on even the Five.
"Bonnie, I have heard you tossing around my library." Elijah's voice spoke as he entered the library. "Were you looking for something in particular? Or were you attempting to trash my favorite room?"
"Do you have any books on the Five?"
"The Five?" Elijah was shocked Bonnie knew of the original hunters. "No, but I have a few journals."
He moved over to one of the locked drawers attached to the bookcase at the bottom. Upon opening it, he began to search for the right time era. "Ah, here we are."
Elijah placed three leather-bound journals into her hands. "Rebekah's, Klaus's and my own from our period with the Five. I would caution you on Rebekah's. She was a little…" He cleared his throat before continuing on, "close with one of the Five."
"You knew them? Do you know their descents?" Bonnie questioned the helpful original.
"I knew them, dined with them until Klaus slaughtered them all to protect Rebekah. The Five is not about blood. The title chooses the strongest hunters alive. There is no pattern to it."
"Can you tell me…"
"Brother!" Klaus's voice boomed. "We have guests!"
Elijah and Bonnie exchanged glances before leaving the library together to find out who was there.
…
Klaus stood at the top of the stairs with a glass full of amber liquid as he witnessed the new guest just carelessly walk into his home. Not even a simple knock or a ring of the bell. Truly, Elena needed more friends with manors rather than these fools.
"Where is Elena?" The youngest Salvatore demanded when his green eyes locked in on the hybrid.
"Out. Maybe book shopping or buying some furniture." Klaus remarked as he began his descent down the steps. The liquid sloshed in the glass until he brought it to his lips to enjoy a sip of the liquid inside.
"What is that supposed to mean?" Caroline questioned the hybrid's little story. "Why would Elena be buying furniture? Is she your new interior decorator?" Caroline's eyes wandered into the entry room. "You are in serious need of one."
"Oh, you lot don't know, yet." Klaus pointed at the five people that rudely let themselves into his home before he let out a chuckle. "At least I was not the last to know. I hate when I am the last to know."
"What the hell are you blabbering on about?" Alaric questioned. "Where is Elena? What have you done to her?" The longer he did not know where Elena was, the worry inside of him grew for her wellbeing.
"My baby sister kidnapped her," Klaus said what had happened, but his ears told him they were close. To be exact, the sound of Rebekah's car pulling up to the house. The sound of two slow heartbeats and one strong heartbeat let him know that Elena was with his sister.
"Why would Rebekah do that?" Stefan asked yet another simple question. Did they travel fifteen hours to just to ask questions? Foolish folks.
"Elena and I were arguing." Klaus informed them "You see. Elena and I just couldn't decide whether to paint the nursery pink, blue or yellow. See I wanted to go with neutral because we don't know the sex of our child just yet. Too early to tell, but in a few months maybe."
"Klaus!" Elena's voice snapped behind the backs of her five friends.
In unison, the five whipped their heads around to face Rebekah and Elena. The gears in their brains working at fast pace. Making several dozen questions all at once. How? Why? What? When? Who? The question that crossed all their minds most likely was, how is that even possible?
"There is my baby mama." Klaus chuckled as his extended his arm out to point Elena out to the group that was just informed of Elena's current condition. "That is still the popular term, correct?"
"How?" Stefan stammered out the question in all of their minds.
"Elena, mind filling them in? I have to make a run with Elijah." Klaus lit the torch and was passing it on to Elena to carry the burden of the mess he made for her. Wanted to pay her back for not revealing the truth to him. Rather he had to hear it from his older brother after weeks of knowing the truth.
Oh, Elena was going to pay him back. She was going to get him back for it. He was just proving on all the reason why she didn't tell him the truth sooner. On why she kept the pregnancy a secret for the last nearly two months. Still the same Klaus…even after learning he was to be a father. Incapable of change.
…
It was going to be for her protection. That was why he needed to get her busy. If her friends and his sister kept her busy, then he could do what needed to be done in order to protect. Had to act like a drunk asshole, but seemed to have worked with her friends and the beauty herself. All she had to do was stay busy while he protected her. Even if it meant selling away his alliance to several bitches. Wasn't like selling his soul, but still caused him a great deal of stress to go through it. If he never knew he was going to be a father, he would have just fought the battle for the throne on his own. As soon as he heard that heartbeat, those amazing little beats, he knew what needed to be done to keep them safe and out of the battle.
"Klaus, finally waving the white flag?" The new leader of the witches spoke up.
"I am done playing games with you witches. You, put my child at risk." He pointed right at the evil witch as he was speaking. "I am willing to work with you. Take down Marcel and let you do your magic tricks."
"We want more than Marcel down for the count," Katie spoke up from the corner of the crypt. "Sophie."
Sophie glared at her fellow coven member before turning back to Klaus. With a heavy sigh, she parted her mouth to start speaking to the hybrid. "We have a tradition that has not yet been completed because of Marcel's pet witch. We need her. Without completing the ritual, her magic will become unstable and she will destroy more than just New Orleans." Sophie explained to Klaus. Left out some of the more important parts because she didn't need him to know their magic would disappear.
"I want two things from you." Klaus started to present his offer to them. "I want your help in order bringing down Marcel, and I want your head." He pointed right at Sophie again. "You attacked the woman that is carrying my unborn child. I just can't let them go unpunished now."
"I can melt her brain from here." Sophie threat only got Klaus's hand on her throat.
"I will let you live until you do this ceremony with your witch after you help me. But once you get your last wish, I get mine." Klaus said calmly as his hand began to grip tightly to Sophie's throat.
All he was trying to do was get his point across. No one got to threaten the love of his immortal life and get away with it. Klaus had all the right to demand Sophie's head on a platter.
"I think that is a fair arrangement." Lenore said while she was walking into the crypt. "I warned you not to go after that woman and her child." Lenore pointed over at Sophie, who was still dangling in the air by Klaus's hold on the witch.
"Deal." Sophie managed to make out with Klaus's tight grip on her throat.
With his Cheshire Cat smile, Klaus dropped Sophie out of his grip. The witch fell to the dusty ground like a rag doll. Klaus crouched down to look Sophie right in the eyes for the next thing he had to say.
"If you try to attack Elena or my child while you are still alive, hell even death, I will kill every single witch that has ever belonged to this coven." His eyes shifted up to the oldest witch in the room. "Maybe not Lenore, Elena does seem to enjoy her chats with Lenore." Then killer eyes set back on Raggedy Ann. Bright gold eyes, dark black veins under them. "Don't ever cross me, or you will inflict the extinction of the French Quarter Coven."
"Niklaus." The sound of his brother's voice calmed the hybrid. "You made your point. We should be leaving."
"One more question brother, one more." He ensured his brother without even looking up at him.
"One more, Niklaus." Elijah agreed to his brother's terms.
Klaus stood up from his spot, dusting the invisible it off his pants as he turned his eyes on to the elder witch once again.
"Why can't the werewolves shift?" Klaus questioned. "I sent Elijah to go make a deal with them, but none of them shifted. It isn't even a full moon."
"That is why they can't shift," Lenore answered him. "A witch cursed the pack. They can only be human for one night of the month. All except for one lost puppy."
"Who?" Klaus wanted more answers.
"Your one more question was answered, Niklaus." Lenore reprimanded the man. "You two may go now. We will hold up to our end as long as you hold up to yours."
"We will." Elijah swore to the witches as he waved Niklaus over to him.
The two had some research to do on how to get the werewolves on their side. Elijah was not the only one to keep Elena out harm's way. Her pregnancy was impossible. Her child would be a whole new kind of child. Elena was going to face greater danger than she ever faced before all due to a damn curse. He would do anything to help her, even if that meant seeking help from unknown people. With the dangerous witches and the cursed wolves.
"Why are you so interested in the wolves?" Elijah asked his brother as the two were leaving the crypt.
"Brother, I need warriors if I go up against Marcel. What is certain death to vampires?" Klaus explained his reasoning. All they needed were the wolves on this side. Even if it meant finding the lost little pup. The little wolf that seemed to avoid the curse of his or her pack.
"Niklaus, don't you think there are better ways in order to have a safe battle?" Elijah questioned his brother's eagerness to go to battle with the man he once called son.
Yes, Elijah believed in protecting Elena, but this battle seemed to less for Elena and more for Klaus to have what he left behind all those years ago. Their once home was no cluttered with vampires all sired to the man who they took into their home. Their home they had built, was no longer their home. Their crest no longer stood for Mikaelson. Stood for Marcel. Elijah was eager to get back to their family home, but he did not want Elena to get caught in the crosshairs of the raging war. Elijah wanted to keep Elena safe, battle or an agreement.
"Oh, brother." Klaus patted Elijah's shoulder. "Marcellus's behavior is passed talking. He had a chance to welcome us back into our home and he turned us down. Then he brought Elena in. He chose to use her against me. Yes, it failed, but I will not forget that he had tried to use her and my child against me. There is no going back from that. It is battle or submission."
…
The fields were quiet. The fields were empty. Perfect. Got Elena out of the noisy and busy household. Her friends were either discussing her pregnancy or the fallout of her pregnancy. Damon and Stefan had an argument on the fact that Damon kept Elena's secret. Caroline was in disbelieve. Tyler had the hybrid coming out in him until Matt had calmed him down with some help from Jeremy. Then Bonnie had recruited Alaric and Rebekah for a task in the library. Nobody even was talking to Elena. Just made it easy for her to sneak out to the back.
The fields were just what she needed. They were not truly fields, but at least they were empty. Exactly what Elena needed. She didn't need to hear people asking her if she was fine. Didn't need to be lectured about certain aspects of her life. All she needed was someone to listen to her and not judge her for the choices she had made or the things she had done. Was tired of being told how to act and what to do.
"Elena." A French woman's voice sung through the air to capture Elena's attention.
Elena turned her head to see a woman standing over by the largest tree. The woman had dark curls that were held up in an up-do. Dark brown eyes that revealed the color of her hair. Her outfit was a simple white underdress; something women during 1700s or later on would wear on their heavier dresses. Her hair and skin both soaking wet, as Elena got closer, she witnessed the woman drying up like magic.
"Who are you?" Elena questioned when she stopped in tracks.
"Celeste Dubois." The woman did a small curtsy with a wicked toothy smile on her pink stained lips. "This is my original body. The same look that I had when I died. Same look when Klaus sent killers on me."
"How are…"
"Astral projection." Celeste cut Elena off. "I am still in Monique's body, but due to Klaus's rage, I am keeping in hiding." Celeste stepped out of the tree's shadow and into the moonlight.
"Why are you…"
"I had to come see you after I heard you were back in town." Celeste cut her off again. "I was expecting your lover boys to be around you to keep you safe and sound. Surprised to see you all alone."
"Lover boys?" Elena laughed out the question then shook her head. "I don't have any lovers."
"Oh, but you do. You have so many men wrapped around your finger. Matthew Donovan, Stefan Salvatore, Damon Salvatore, Elijah Mikaelson, and the mighty Niklaus Mikaelson. You have them all wrapped around your finger. You even have so many other men wrapped around your fingers that you have never even shown your heart to." Celeste laughed out after her little speech. "Oh you, just like your doppelgangers. That is exactly what landed you with the curse."
"What are you going on about?" She questioned Celeste. "I don't" Elena had to swallow an invisible lump in her throat. "I don't love Elijah or Klaus. I never have."
"But you do." Celeste spoke Elena's own truth. "You do love Elijah, different from how you love Klaus. You love that man. The man that breaks everything he touches. You are in love with Klaus. The spell wouldn't have worked if you didn't. Yes, he broke your heart. It is what he does. Just ask your doppelgangers…oh wait you can't. Well, I guess Katherine, but she hates you. I wonder if it is because you remind her of what she used to be before she was touched by Klaus or because every man that has ever loved her, loves you more."
"Stop!" Elena snapped at Celeste. "You don't know what you are talking about. You don't know me."
"I do." Celeste snipped back at Elena. "You are just a copy and paste of your doppelgangers. That is why you were cursed. Niklaus and doppelgangers. Always cursed the minute that man sets his eyes on you. You were only cursed because of your doppelgangers. You only love the men you do because of your doppelgangers. Your life is just a copy of those doppelgangers before you, and your life will ultimately have the same fate either death or misery."
"You don't know that." Elena got out but it was too late, Celeste had disappeared into thin air.
It wasn't true. Her life was not just a copy of someone else's life. There was no fate at play. It was her own life. Just because her doppelgangers ended up a certain way, doesn't mean she would as well.
"Elena!" That time Elena knew the voice that had called her name. Damon. "Elena! Get inside we got some news!" He screamed out again for Elena.
Elena looked around to make sure Celeste was truly gone before she decided to head back inside again. As she was walking back, she spotted Damon standing out on the back patio with arms crossed over his black V-neck short sleeve shirt.
"What?" Elena asked him like she was teenager snapping at her parents.
"We found something…well, Bonnie found something. Apparently little witchy had been working with the creepy Professor Shane more than we just thought she was." Damon started to explain to Elena. "Let me jump to the point. There might be a cure for vampirism. To be exact it can cure any immortal."
"Any immortal?" Elena wondered why Damon had phrased it like that.
"Yes, like an original. Even a hybrid."
