Chapter 7: Fighting Time – Part 1
Taurus
"Thanks Kara. Please call if you hear anything." Zavier turned off his link and ran his hands through his dark hair.
"Still no word?" Sondria asked worriedly.
"None. And calling Kara was a long shot." It had been hours since he'd last seen his son. He wished he hadn't reacted the way that he had to Rikai.
"I finally got Trenton to go to sleep." She sat beside her husband. "He's afraid that Rikai's not coming back and that it's his fault."
"Where could he be?"
"He said something about a hotel. We could try that." She suggested.
He nodded. "I'll try the one closest ones to us first." He reached for his link but Sondria stopped him.
"Tomorrow." She held up a hand before he could say anything. "He will have cooled down by then."
"Or decided that he wants nothing to do with me."
"You have to calm down Zavier. You love him. I know that, but if you keep pushing him like this, he may not come back."
"I don't want to lose him."
"Then listen to him, and trust him. It's the least you can do."
"I hope you're right."
Megaship
"We are thirty minutes from KO-35's orbit." DECA alerted.
"Okay," Karone responded. "Let me know as soon as we're in position."
"Affirmative."
"You're going to have to stay here while I get the antivirus." She paced across the conservatory floor. Ava would be getting worse every minute. Time was their enemy right now.
"Could you please sit down?" He looked at his sister. "You're making me nervous."
"I'm sorry." She sat down beside him.
"I feel so helpless. I just wish there was something I could do."
"You're doing it." Karone assured. "You're coming home to us, to your family."
"What if we're too late?" Tears flooded his eyes, but he wouldn't let them fall. "What if I never get to see my daughter?"
"You can't think like that." She took his hand. "Ava is going to be fine. You have to believe that."
"It was her I was feeling." His breath caught. "Back in your hotel room, that pain I felt was because of her, because of my daughter. She's so sick, Karone. I don't see how she can stand it."
"Because she's strong, just like her daddy. She even has your eyes."
"Really?"
Karone nodded. "Would you like to see a picture of her?"
"Yeah. Yeah I would."
"DECA, bring up file Ashley and Ava." She ordered.
A picture of Ashley and Ava came onto the observatory screen. Ashley's face was pressed lovingly against her daughter's and they both smiled out of the picture.
He stood slowly as if hypnotized by the image and moved towards the screen. "She has her mother's smile." He commented.
"Yeah she does. She's a beautiful child." She stared at her brother when he didn't respond. "Andros." She called as she stood and moved next to him.
The shaking started at his hands and worked its way through his body. His eyes rolled to the back of his head and he fell to the floor, his body convulsing.
"Andros!" Karone managed to keep his head from hitting the floor. "DECA take us to the med bay I think he's seizing."
They were in the med bay in no time. DECA managed to teleport him to a bed. He'd stopped seizing and now lay completely still.
"Andros, please wake up." She cried. "You can't leave me again!" The sudden intake of air had her stepping back, which was a good thing being that he nearly sprung up off the bed. "Easy. Just calm down and breathe slowly, Andros." She shook her head, when he looked at her with a confused expression. "I mean Rikai."
"No." He looked at her with clear eyes. "It's me Karone. I remember everything."
Earth
"We got here as soon as we could." Cassie rushed to Ashley and embraced her.
"I can't lose her too Cassie. I can't." Ashley cried into her friend's shoulder.
"Come on, let's sit over here." As Cassie led Ashley away, Carlos approached Zhane.
"How are you holding up?" He asked Zhane.
Zhane shook his head and walked to the outdoor patio and breathed in the early morning air. He knew Carlos was behind him. "How could this be happening? Haven't we been through enough?"
"It'll be-"
"Don't tell me it'll be okay." He snapped. "Nothing is okay about this. Nothing will ever be okay again."
"You can't think like that Zhane." Zhane's reaction was scaring Carlos. It was completely unlike Zhane.
"Why not?" He turned to Carlos. "Karone is supposed to be here with me. And damn it Andros should be with his family." Everything he'd been holding in came to the surface. "I love Ashley and I love Ava, but I need Karone. And it hurts so badly knowing that she's out there and I can't be with her."
Carlos just stood there, dumbfounded. He'd never expected to see the day that Zhane fell apart.
"No one wants to hear this but it's a fact. When Andros died, we died with him."
Carlos knew the 'we' Zhane referred didn't include him. Andros, Ashley, Zhane, and Karone had always been a unit that went beyond friendship. They were all linked, and that link was Andros. And without Andros, the connection wasn't right anymore.
Ashley and Cassie
"TJ and Kate are flying back, from Kate's parent's place." Cassie told Ashley.
"They didn't have to do that." Ashley whispered.
"You would do the same thing and you know it."
Ashley couldn't argue. "I can't go through this again." She started. "I nearly didn't make it when Andros died. The only thing that got me through it was Ava, knowing that I still had a part of him with me. If I lose her-"
"You won't." Cassie stated sharply. You are not losing her. Karone is on her way and she will get here in time."
"Oh god." Tears flooded Ashley's eyes as she doubled over.
"What's wrong?"
"It's Zhane." Ashley stood and rushed to where she felt him. One look at him and he lost what was left of his resolve. He through himself into her arms, but it was hard to tell who held who up.
"I'm sorry." Zhane cried. "I'm so sorry."
"It's okay." Ashley assured him. "You two were meant to be together. She still loves you too. You know that. Don't give up on her."
Zhane pulled away and looked into Ashley's brown eyes. "You either. When she gets here and Ava's better. I'll tell her."
Ashley and Zhane embraced again. Carlos and Cassie stood nearby embracing each other.
Meanwhile, the doctor finished checking Ava's vitals. He looked at the sleeping infant and sighed. "Nurse Roberts, find Zhane and Ashley's whereabouts then come and find me." He put a hand to his head. "I need to tell them that Ava just entered Phase three."
(A/N: I know you all are gonna be mad at me for this one, but I'd love to see the reviews. Tell me what you think. I can take it. Lol!)
(A/N 2: Check out my new story 'Out of This World' and tell me what you think about that one too. Thanks!)
