Title: One Night

Pairing: Steven/Daigo x May/Haruka - Hoennchampionshipping

Backstory stuff: In my headcanon, May goes with Steven on his trip to Sinnoh, and stays with him in the villa. They're not really romantically involved, though they both recognize they each have some feelings towards one another. On a usual day, he hunts in The Underground for rocks and gems, and she trains her pokemon against local trainers and continues filling up pokedex pages, barely seeing each other in the process. One day, Steven decides a night out on the town together would benefit their relationship.
A pointless piece of Hoennchampionshipping fluff. Concrit would be muchly loved and appreciated!
One Night
It wasn't a date. Not really. He hadn't said anything like that when he asked. By all accounts, it was just a completely platonic evening of innocent fun; a dinner and a movie and maybe a walk down by the shore. Only as friends.
But May still chose the best outfit she had (a silvery white silk evening dress her mother had bought her to wear on her 15th birthday), combed her hair into the fanciest 'do possible, and put on make-up for the first time since she was three and playing with her aunt's collection of lipstick. As a final touch, she also wore one of the stones he had given her - a shimmering piece from the walls of Meteor Falls - on a gold chain around her neck
She hoped it wasn't too much, that she wouldn't come off as desperate in some way. All she wanted was to match his elegance, look as beautiful on his arm as Cynthia did on Lance's.
She knew she wasn't gorgeous, but people told her she was cute in her normal getup, and at the very least she thought she looked pretty now.
A knock on the door took her attention off her reflection. She didn't need to hear his voice to know who it was.
"Yes, I'm ready. You can come in."
The door opened, and he moved to step inside, only to stop completely once he took in her appearance. She consciously tucked a stray tendril of hair behind her ear, fidgeting slightly in nervousness when the silence stretched on. But then he grinned slowly, hazel eyes lighting up with something akin to delight.
"Wow. You look...amazing."
Her cheeks tinged pink even as relief washed over her, "Thank you! And...you look very handsome yourself, Steven."
"Thank you. Though I will still feel somewhat inferior standing next to you." His gaze fell on her throat, "That...that is the moonstone I gave you, isn't it?"
She fingered the necklace, overjoyed at the fact that he noticed, "Yes. I don't really have any pokemon that'll get any use from it, and I thought it was so beautiful...custom jewelery was the way to go."
He nodded approvingly, "Hmm. It suits you."
She blushed again, giving him a bright smile of gratitude, "I'm very glad you thought so."
They waited for a few moments, their smiles slowly disappearing as they quietly stared at each other. Finally, he stepped forward, grabbing her matching white shawl off the bed and gently wrapping it around her shoulders.
"Shall we go now?"
Her heart skipped a bit when she felt his breath against her ear. "Absolutely." She replied shyly, and he beamed at her before taking her hand and leading her out of the villa.
As they stood outside to wait for the car, May thought about the night ahead. Date or not, it was still going to be a magical experience.
