I know what you're thinking. Today is Tuesday not Friday. I thought that I might as well do a chapter today. So here it is. Read and Review.

"Now" ordered the captain.

The rock went flying toward the castle. Unfortunately it only hit the lower part of the castle. As knights scattered the captain on his horse turned to his best friend on his pony.

"See anything?" asked Bard (The Hobbit, 1977).

Samwise Gamgee (The Lord of the Rings, 1978) shook his head. "You think it's deserted? If they've gone off with the treasure, Arthur won't be pleased."

"If there ever was a treasure." commented Bard. "One more flight." Bard signaled to the archers. They fired and the arrows flew over the wall landing on top of the battlement where an old man with one eye held a frying pan as a shield. Bard smiled. "Samwise!"

"Cease firing!" came a shout. The arrows stopped firing.

Bard looked up at the old man. "I speak for Arthur Curry Lionheart, king of England, lord of half of France, and thereby overlord of this domain."

"I'm up here speaking for myself." said the man.

"Where are your soldiers?" asked Bard.

"Ran off." replied the man.

"Where is the Lord of Chalus?" asked Bard.

"He led them." replied the man.

"Ask him if he knows about the treasure." whispered Samwise.

"Left me here with all the woman and children, and no weapons anyplace." stated the old man. "Here am I with only half an eye, collecting arrows. And you think I've got a bow to shoot them with." The man made gesture that looked like he was shooting arrows.

Bard smiled at the old man. "My king thinks your lord is keeping treasure from him. It's my orders to get it."

"That'll be the treasure people say was found by Jean the Ploughman. Great gold statue, three feet long." said the man.

"That's the one." stated Bard.

"Iwas with him when they found it. What we dug up was a rock." said the man.

"Now we're fighting for a rock." said Bard to Samwise.

"You want to look? Out there in the turnip field. We couldn't lift it, so we left it. What I've come to say, if there's going to be a fight, I'm all there is. So come and get me." taunted the man.

"You're a mad old man." commented Bard.

"What now?' asked Samwise.

"I want to give that rock to Arthur. Let's find the turnip field." Bard and Samwise started to turn their mounts around until Bard stopped. "Samwise." He pointed out in the distance. Arthur Curry Lionheart was coming on horseback with some knights.
