Percy yawned and stared at his alarm clock: it was 9:00. He didn't have to work today, but if he slept in any later, his family would get suspicious.
He got up and dressed and headed zombie-like downstairs. He tried to remember how late he'd been out. 12? 1? 1:30? He couldn't remember. He just knew that the "working late" excuse was starting to run thin. Eventually he'd have to tell his family what he was really doing. Then again, it was him. He had been known to be a slight workaholic.
He was musing over this when suddenly he tripped over something; something alive! "Aaargh!" he gasped then he realized what it was and that it was still sleeping. "Charlie?" he hissed.
Charlie groaned and sat up. "Five more minutes, Mum," he grumbled.
Percy half-kneeled-half-sat down next to Charlie. "I'm not Mum. What are you doing?"
Charlie stirred again and looked at Percy sleepily. He gasped and sat up. "What time is it?"
"About nine. What are you doing here? Why are you sleeping on the landing?"
"Well, I wasn't exactly supposed to be sleeping," he said bitterly. Clearly he was annoyed with himself.
"I repeat, what are you doing here?" Percy asked getting a little annoyed now.
"Well, you know how Ginny told us that she and Harry are dating now?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Well, I figured that since Ron and Hermione aren't here, someone needs to make sure that Ginny stays on the second floor and that Harry stays in the attic," Charlie said, intelligently.
Percy just stared at him. "So you slept on the landing?"
"That's where the plan fell apart. I wasn't supposed to fall asleep," Charlie admitted sheepishly not noticing the look on Percy's face.
"Please tell me that we're not actually having this conversation," he said slightly disgusted.
"Was that just sarcasm?" Charlie stared at his younger brother in awe.
"Because you're never sarcastic at all," Percy said dryly.
"I know, but it's you!" Charlie said with his mouth hanging open. "I never thought you'd use sarcasm!"
I guess Audrey's rubbing off on me, Percy thought. "People change," he shrugged. "Now how late do you think you stayed up?"
"I don't know. 12, 1, 2, something like that,"he shrugged.
Was I really out that late? Percy thought. "Maybe you should go back to bed then. I won't tell anyone why you were up so late."
"Nah, I'm hungry. Hey, Perce," he said, grinning slightly. "I never saw you get home. Why were you out so late?"
"Working," Percy said quickly. "I apperated to my room so that I wouldn't wake anyone up." Well, that much is true.
"Really? And how late were you working?" Charlie asked, disbelieving every word of it.
"Lost track of time," Percy mumbled.
"I'm sure you did. So, what's her name?" Charlie asked.
Percy stared at him seriously. "You won't tell anyone. Especially not Mum. I don't think I could take her reaction if she found out."
"I won't, I won't," Charlie grinned. "Now, what's her name?"
"Audrey," Percy smiled a little wistfully. "Just don't tell anyone, okay? Not after Penelope."
"Penelope? Curly hair? Ravenclaw?"
"Left me for some idiot who can't add two and two? Yeah, that one," Percy grumbled. "Fred and George'll…I mean, George would keep talking about Penelope, Mum would most likely explode, I don't really want to see Bill's reaction and well, you get the idea," Percy shuddered.
"Don't worry," Charlie grinned. "You're secret's safe with me."
"Thanks."
"So, is she pretty?"
"You have no idea."
